Allie, can you confirm one thing. I thought ANET was removing the ability to get NEW glory, but that the glory vendor would still be around for awhile. Is that correct?

Allie please realise that %90 of people posting in this thread are bad and/or hotjoin players that have no idea what their talking in about.

PW is fine, if you focus nerfs on PW alone thiefs will just go back to perma evade S/D cheese, or perma stealth d/p cheese. The problem is the trickery tree and the initiative regen of thiefs overall. Atleast PW can be countered by retaliation, unlike S/D which still has no counter.

I hope you realize how bad you just made yourself look. I can’t name ANY top thief in solo or team queue that runs a permastealth d/p build. It is a liability for a team.

Stay focused on PW. It doesn’t need a lot of changes. It just needs the evade removed. That won’t impact top players that much but will raise the skill cap a bit. That’s a good thing.

I suck atm at this game but there are thieves who really are alot worse than me and they can dominate right now. The game is unplayable

My advice to you is maybe then get better before weighing in on balance issues? The thief has low barrier to entry gimmicks that any player can get comfortable with and score some points. The same as warriors.

But when a player knows how to handle those gimmicks, the thief just dies. And dies. And dies. The skill cap to be useful and survive once your gimmicks no longer work is a lot steeper than most of the other professions.

Most of the anger here is from people that just cant or won’t adapt to beat the gimmick so they want the game changed for them instead.

In tPvP sword/pistol thieves are waaaaaaayyyy less common than they are in hot join, and there are fewer all the time. If it was so OP, why wouldn’t it be dominant in organized play? Because sword/pistol is not viable and Pistol Whip leaves the Thief much too vulnerable on a stun break or evade. In fact, there isn’t a single cookie cutter Thief meta in tPvP right now. But signet of spite/epi Necros, shatter/sword Mesmers, Diamond skin Eles, and Engi bunkers are gaining more and more traction.

You dont nerf an entire class or skill because a sub-group’s (PvP) sub-group’s (hot join/solo queue players), sub-group (that use the forums), refuse to step it up.

Ummm, play upper level solo queue or tPvP and then say that again. Sure, there are still a good number of Caed wanna be’s running his d/p spec, but a lot have moved onto S/P.

Ok so being rank 1 and having the best win % means nothing? If so then you and everybody else should have no problem winning as high a win % as me then. Should be easy for you to carry

A high rank in solo queue is very impressive as long as you aren’t playing one of the following:

hambow, decap engi, spirit ranger, mm necro, bunker guard, s/p, or pu Mesmer. A high rank with any of those is more about the spec than anything else.

“Bunker” is pretty much why sPvP is a skilless joke of a game. Bring back GvG and let’s get a real game.

or just go to WvW and GvG all you want. The nice thing is that there is more strategy there since there are a lot more combinations of armor, trinkets, runes, food, etc.

of course, if you haven’t geared a character outside of PvP, this doesn’t apply to you.

Well condi isn’t that great for zergs in the first place, I wouldn’t bother changing your runes just for that. I run the same gear/build, if I want to actual help the zerg more I swap to zerker gear. Usually I’m just lazy and grenades in condi is good enough to tag people.

What??? Your last sentence is correct though. Remember WvW zerg fighting is about staying alive. It is not about delivering max damage. The difference between your 1000 attack and 1200 attack isn’t a big deal in that context.

P/D and D/D are way easier to take on multiple opponents. P/D being the easiest because you do it from range.

So, I don’t know if I main any particular class. I pretty much play everything at this point.

My thoughts on PW…
1. The damage output is fine. No problems there.
2. What needs to change is that the skill needs to lose either the stun or the evade. Having both is the problem.
3. It is further an issue because of sword #2. Essentially, you can teleport to a target which immobilizes them. Do a pistol whip which stuns them and then evade all attacks while doing the pistol whip. Afterwards, teleport away, run around a bit for your initiative to refresh, and then do it again. Pretty low skill required for maximum benefit.

Personally, I’d be happy just seeing the evade removed.

Warhorn

in Warrior

Posted by: style.6173

style.6173

I am actually seeing warhorn being used a lot more in WvW, believe it or not.

Warhorn is one of those weapons that may be very advantageous in some situations, in some situations it may not even help you at all.

Most warriors already have the 25% movement speed passive so swiftness isn’t needed. Most people run Berserker Stance/Lyssa/Cleansing Ire with -condi duration food so the cleanses are not even needed from warhorn.

The weakness and vigor from the weapon is decent. However warhorn provides no offensive capabilities whatsoever. And you need to invest 20 into tactics to get the conversion trait. However you are most likely to convert bleeds to vigor, not exactly a boon that we need since the warhorn itself already gives vigor. And going 20 into tactics cuts your DPS quite a bit.

Most people use the shield over warhorn because it is practical in almost every situation. A 1 second CC to help set up bursts, a 3 second block helps in every situation. Also with all the thieves running around in WvW, it is wiser to carry a shield over a warhorn.

And this is roaming that I am talking about, in zergs of course the warhorn can be quite useful and is probably the best choice.

This ^^. For large groups, pretty much every warrior uses warhorn for group swiftness, blast finisher, and condi removal.

diminishing returns on stats...

in Profession Balance

Posted by: style.6173

style.6173

there is no one answer. in toughness vs vitality, you want enough vitality to deal with conditions and burst, and enough toughness to deal with sustained direct damage. it moves up and down depending on what you are doing. in pve any vitality or toughness is a matter of your ability to survive the fights with as little as possible of either. and in roaming in wvw you bring less of both than if you were zerging. you should keep in mind however, it isn’t just vitality you measure toughness against, it is every other stat that could be beneficial. it may be worth losing a little hp and armor to get yourself to the crit chance threshold for a certain trait or sigil.

Because they’re not as “easy to play” and “very successful” as you state it. At least not when you look at the big picture.

It’s easy to declare something OP when narrowing down the focus enough. For example, among AE healing condition-cleansing water fields, Healing Spring is clearly OP.

How is pistol whip op, if thiefs at the top just use skill 2 to port in,
autoattack and port out in most cases?

I assume this strategy is superior to a skill tht is rooting you on a point and taking all the dmg till ur burst/evade actually gonna hit.

Because they don’t just port in, autoattack and port out. They do use PW; they just don’t spam it.

Personally, I’m fine with the damage of PW. It just needs to lose either the stun or the evade.

Deal with it.

Complaint #1: “Lions arch was the most convenient place to do anything, and now its gone and i have to pay $12.50 (USD) for the same thing.”

LA was NOT the most convenient place to do business. There were much faster locations for bank – crafting – Trading post services. Lions Arch was just popular. Popular doe not always mean the best. Lets use Justin Beiber as an example.

Complaint #2: “Ermergherd, how could you do this Anet? how could you make us pay real money for stuff. How could you have such a cash grab like this. ermergherd.”

ok, lets not forget people. Video Game development costs money. Arena Net, NCsoft and any other studio / publisher on the planet are a business.
I like to think that ArenaNet prefer to do cool things rather than cashgrab. But the world of business does not agree with my feelings.
you CAN NOT blame ArenaNet for trying to make money. its YOUR choice to buy into these things. nobody is forcing you.

Complaint #3: “what? now i have nowhere to do my craafting!”

Every main city, and even a lot of explorable areas have crafting stations.

Claypool in Queensdale has a full set of crafting stations.

Ebonhawke in Fields Of Ruin has literally everything, and its all MUCH closer together than it was in lions arch.

what if you don’t need crafting? In mount malestrom, in Soobetme (just west of the mountain) , at the FireBreak Fort Waypoint, there is a bank and a TP so close together, you can stand between them and right click both of them. not to mention, loading into MM is a LOT faster than loading into LA.

I bought the permanent airship pass. Its an item you have in your inventory and can right click it from anywhere, and it takes you straight to the airship.
This is a lot more convenient than the Royal Terrace. (which i didn’t buy, because i didn’t see the point.)

TLDR. Don’t buy it if you don’t want it. Dont complain. You have nothing to complain about.

lol. Worst post ever. Obviously if someone wants to complain, they have a reason to do so.

While you’re technically correct, alot of people manage a one size fits all for both PvE and WvW, unless they’re a roamer. And even then it’s no big deal.

Total zerker warriors will get melted in zerg fights. Dodges are great, but if you want to be part of the melee train, you need to be able to take damage at times as well.

Survivability > Damage for LARGE fights

And to add insult to injury, you can be standing right next to your loot, spamming the loot key and it still wont drop in the bag depending on the terrain or some other mysterious reason. It is a silly and useless system and needs to be fixed.

FA conditioned TC to be wary of the open field so they wouldn’t venture out unless they were all blobbed up and could run over other groups. I remember when some friends transferred from FA to TC months and months ago to basically become the first true havoc group on TC, help show them how to unblob.

I think a cheese build could be described as a build that allows you to beat someone with far superior skill with consistency.

Example: warrior cheese vs. a skilled D/D Ele. If the warrior is even barely competent it is usually a tough fight for the Ele. The Ele has to play a near perfect game in order to top the massive regen, armor, DPS, and mobility the warrior has.

Example: D/P thief. Not winning? Go perma stealth and regen ALL you health back or, just stand in your blind field and spam 1. D/P thieves can beat nearly anything in the game with barely any effort. Put that cheese in the hands of an above average player and it’s very difficuly to counter.

Lol at standing in a blind field.

Protip: No one with any skill just stands there melee attacking while a thief is in a blind field.

As for cheese builds, I think the max regen build in general are cheese. Warrior, ele, and engi all have builds that fall into that area.

New game modes. NEVER.

You just need to start thinking outside of box and stop pigeonholing yourself. You have enough mobility to decap when needed, you have cc to help bring someone down, you have cc to help ressurect, you have invulnerability to stomp, you have aoes to abuse those on node. And you still have damage. Mesmer has the same role in team as thief.

Mesmer isnt very good at decap. To slow. Unlike thief, our burst Or to slow Or to obvious.

And u should clearly understand that all other roles would be much better completed by other classes.

I agree that mesmer is not for decap, but disagree about a mesmer burst. It depends on the spec of course, but they can have a really strong burst.

I have seen good mesmers at point defense though as long as they are not a stealth heavy build.

@OP:

It really comes down to whether someone can win the 1v1 or not. If they are great at it, push far. If they are not, don’t.

Yeah but even if they win they can’t hold it because their team just wiped at mid, who then send 2 people home to clear you out.

Holding far point for 30 seconds isn’t worth losing mid over, especially not considering how easy it becomes for the enemy team to shift points.

Remember that it is not always smart to go for mid in a solo queue. You have to take team composition into account. Even more frustrating that someone losing far is a team that 1 by 1 runs into mid and gets slaughtered.

I didn’t use to see so much power creeping in wvw 6 months ago. but now all I mostly see are classes using corruption/Bloodlust with the top tier guard oriented wvw masteries. I honestly didn’t see as many people using these back in the day Guard leech and applied were rarely seen because you needed alot of points obviously). Is it the new meta, whether roaming alone/ with a group or with a zerg to be as bursty as possible? honestly most of the thieves I’ve seen are one-shot mug thieves who can crit 8-9k on heavy classes. They drop like stones of course, but that’s only if you can keep them out of stealth long enough and that’s near impossible.

Most fights I’ve had were ones I’ve lost because the opposing pressure was near instant whether it was condition or power. When I fought an enemy with little to no stacks, fights were longer than could go either way based on sheer luck. I just feel like if I don’t hop on this train I’ll be left behind but on the other hand I don’t feel it’s needed because I’ve been able to kill people just fine without the sigils. Does anyone have an opinion on this?

fyi not just thieves, but Elementalist, Warriors, Necros, Engineers, and even guardians using all these together.

I’ve never see anyone 1 shot anyone in this game. You’d have better luck with a good conversation if you didn’t say things so false. The closest skill to a 1 shot is a fully charged kill shot, but even that is a stretch.
