Hi Asko,
There is no point in the CDI if the members of it are unable to give it the attention it is due. We make a live game and thus ‘things’ come up. Thank you for your patience and I to am looking forward to being able to giving my full attention to the next set of topics.
Chris
^^ This is so true. For those who weren’t part of the previous WvW CDI discussions, trust me on this…. it is way better to delay a CDI than to launch it and then have virtually no ANET representation. Done correctly, CDI is very valuable.
It is definitely a tactic. The only change should be that it require a certain number of people to contest it. Maybe 5.
For me, Retaliation is one of the best things in game and should stay as it is now.
Agreed, it’s the best way to punish extreme AoE spam.
Threads like this are proof that sometimes, someone shouldn’t be unloading all their DPS at all times on the nearest group of enemies. This is a good thing!
On a side note, it’s actually not all that easy to grant a zerg all that much retal; Guards’s most accessible source is Stand Your Ground, which is 5s/30scd (base numbers).
If you’re talking about blasting light fields…no group ever really does this intentionally, everybody demands fire/water blasts. I don’t know of any group that is clamoring for 3s of Retal on five dudes.
^^ This.
@Allie, the issue here is that a lot of people are making changes based on the fact that THEY are the ones casting the AOE. That is not the right way to look at this. The problem is that AOE in general is too strong in this game. It really need a big nerf.
In the meantime, retaliation is the best counterplay to aoe. It is the only thing now that makes aoe attackers think before using their skills.
In other words, we still need one of the following:
1. A nerf to AOE
2. An increase to retaliation damage
and to those who think somehow retaliation higher or lower would decrease zergs, you are wrong. You could have zero retaliation and people would still zerg. Why? Because it is the easiest way to get loot.
Wrong on so many levels…no to all of those, ESPECIALLY Shadow Refuge. For Lyssa’s sake man, SR has so many counters it isn’t even funny! You have to stay in the AoE THE ENTIRE TIME it’s out to get the stealth. If you leave it at any time, you get revealed. Meaning enemies can and will use AoEs on you, Fear, Push, Pull, and Knockback to kill the thief inside or force them out and into the open with reveal. It’s way too easy to take out a thief just due to seeing the refuge. If you’re having problems with this skill, there is no kind way to say this…but please, for the love of Ascalon, LEARN TO PLAY!
Obviously plays thief.
Listen fella, the counters that you list aren’t available on demand for every class out there, so it’s pointless to list them as the definite solution because that simply doesn’t work in every case.
And lol what? wrong in all of those? So according to your pathetic noob kitten , healing signet of all things is fine? Why do I even bother with all of these losers…
Actually the person you responded to is correct. It is easy to play against. The fact is that most thieves in the game are pretty poor. They use SR when they have virtually no health left and then need to stay in that circle until the house goes away.
Pro tip: switch over to your AOE if you don’t have cc. Mostly likely you’ll see a downed thief laying there afterwards.
It isn’t that warrior is OP. It is that hambow is OP.
this guy^ must play the worst thief in the game if thats what he does. Thief is hardest class to play in the game if u wanna play it well. But the meta is d/p
LMFAO
Depends. in hot join thief is easy.
At upper levels of play, spirit ranger, engi, warrior, necro, and guardian are all easier to play. Ele and any non PU Mesmer build are more difficult to play.
@OP
Some of the mobs 1shot even guardians. It is not an ele issue. It’s just a poorly designed event.
I don’t have a problem with AR. It is more that it takes no skill to just run around in circles and drop bombs and grenades. That plus all the blast finishers for healing make the spec over the top.
Decap engi has been very strong for quite some time, perhaps too strong. But what happened to cause people to finally complain about it?
I’d say mostly that a lot of people have been trying it. Once they realized it took no skill to dominate, they kept playing it.
Then it just cycles from there. People hear how easy it is to play and jump on the bandwagon.
Same story with every fotm spec.
Retaliation should be increased. it is currently the best deterrent for AOE skills.
An alternative is to nerf AOE damage.
AOE in general needs to be nerfed and single target needs to be buffed. AOE serves a purpose, but it is fairly skill-less and should therefore hit for less damage.
Ya’ll are just trying to QQ your ways to free things. Here’s what would be fair.
1) Compensate players who have made glory booster gem purchases (like anet has done for many other items)
2) Allow trade-ins for based on actual value of boosters. (i.e. how much glory does it take to get, drop rate out of boxes)
Ya’ll are so spoiled. I have a lil over 2 stacks of them boosters and I couldn’t give less kittens about using them or getting something for them.
Is anyone arguing for something free? I want your #2 above. Allow a trade in for other boosters.
Definitely go to sPvP. You get in more fights more quickly. As others have said though, you will need different specs between sPvP and WvW.
On a separate note though, you don’t really need to have 1v1 skills to enjoy WvW. Run with a group.
I would hope that they add some additional items to the vendor. Let’s us buy dragonite for glory.
@OP
You said necro is underpowered? I stopped reading your post at that point. Necro is right up there with warrior right now, especially MM.
ANET should allow us to trade in glory boosters for other types of boosters.
Always good to see eles.
On the other team.
You just haven’t played with good eles.
You just haven’t played with good <insert any other class here>.
Assuming equally skilled players (i.e. average), an Ele is going to lose to most classes/builds and get blown-up in group fights.
Eleis actually in worse shape than it seems at first glance, because people don’t realize that most long-time Ele players are always playing one step ahead of everyone else. The only way Ele’s stand a vague chance of winning fights is by vastly out-playing the opponent (or burst them down when they are busy with someone else).
That is an insult to every good ele player out there. There are definitely highly talented players.
In the live stream on Feb 14, 2014, the devs showed us three matches from top tiers players, and the team with Ele always lost. They had pretty good strategy, but they lost all the team fights (watch it if you like). Basically we don’t see Lys, the ele often, and when we see him, he’s mostly lying on the ground waiting for a rez. He pulled up some good insta-kill, but since the cooldown was long, his contribution to team fight was pretty… limited; and they lost (multiple times) despite having Caed.
Comments?
This is horrible logic. Did you also realize that in at least one of those games, the ele was the strongest player on the team?
Always good to see eles.
On the other team.
You just haven’t played with good eles.
Currently bunker specs dominate PvP. Whether we are talking about guardian, decap/bunker engi, spirit ranger, and mm necro, those are the current most powerful builds in the game.
The problem is that bunker is also equal to boring. The fights take forever and I get bored halfway through. That is whether I am playing dps or bunker.
So the question… why have a boring bunker meta?
It would also allow people to see who are the best GvG guilds in NA and EU. I like the idea. The only risk is if too many people are in one overflow and too many fights are happening at the same time.
Another option could be to allow server “guests” to enter OS. For example, let’s say you wanted to fight SF on JQ. Your guild could use the regular “guest” function to visit TC (welcome back?) and then enter OS to fight SF.
It doesn’t impact WvW score at all so no issues from my perspective.
Who cares? Leaderboard decay happens pretty quickly. He will need to either keep winning and prove he belongs there or will fall quickly in the rankings due to lack of games or team RNG catching up.
Either way, it will be resolved soon.
AR is NOT the problem with this spec. It is the amount of heals that is the issue.
@OP:
You know threads like this will actually get them nerfed right?
That said, necros are mostly ok at this point. MM does need a nerf though.
I strongly disagree with the OP. Decap engis are not over powered. Engis have to work much harder to accomplish things in this game than other professions do. It is downright funny really how much you can accomplish with other professions with so little work compared to an engi.
This post wins for the most laughable. Bunker engis are the EASIEST class to play in the game right now. They take ZERO skill. It is funny how strong they are.
As others have said…
In WvW, eles are one of the 3 most important classes for group fights. They are crucial because of the water fields and aoe.
In PvE, any class is fine so doesn’t matter as much
In PvP, they are harder to use than other classes. I’ve seen plenty of great eles recently at higher levels of solo queue. There just aren’t that many great players given how difficult it is to play. Compare it to a bunker engi. They can just run around spamming bombs/ etc and be fine. Eles need more skill.
Trickery is great for PvP but is not as good for roaming. As mentioned, some points in shadow arts is a must.
Look at it this way…. in PvP, you kill fast and die fast. If you die, your run back takes 30 seconds and you are back into the fight. In WvW, if you die, you have a 5-10 minute run before finding any action.
I’d like to see a move defensive oriented signet.
Passive:
10% damage reduction
Why? Not overly strong for an elite. Warriors can get this same reduction on a regular utility signet.
Active:
Recharges steal and heal skill. Transfers condis to target
Why? A non-stealth way to remove conditions on a pretty long timer. The recharge on heal and steal essentially gives an extra heal/steal every 75 seconds.
Recharge:
75 seconds
Skyhammer & Spirit watch = lame solo queue
EOTM is two different stories.
Story 1 – Beta
There were not as many people on the map at this time and so you’d see a lot of smaller groups running around. It was super fun and was really supportive of the small scale fights you discuss.
Story 2 – Go Live
People found out that this map has great rewards. That means it basically became a PvE karma train. In the small amount of time that I’ve been there, I’ve gotten 2 different ascended drops. After 500 or so levels in regular WvW, I got none.
+1 to everything said, regular WvW seems bland now that I’ve played EOTM. There’s simply more things to do, more strategy to be had, more back & forth, more flanks, more surprise “oh crap” moments, and more “darn I should’ve known not to get baited onto that bridge” moments.
The map being more “dynamic” is a good way to describe it. It’s definitely more dynamic & more fun, there’s simply more things to do, more ways to attack & defend. And the fact that 3 sides look so much different with their own theme and weather effects, all are just icing on the cake.
Your comment is curious to me. I find just the opposite. eotm was exciting when it came out, but now it just feels like a PvE karma train.
Basically, I go to eotm for rewards and WvW for competition/fights.
If I see two people doing 1v1, I will just watch. I get involved in 2 scenarios:
1. The ally is an uplevel
2. If an ally loses and the opponent tries for a stomp.
I will summarize briefly.
eotm is good for:
Great rewards
Karma trains
Trolling
eotm is not good for:
Actual fights
Real PPT competition
High quality opponents
Yeah, I know ANET says it is some DOS, but it is too much of a coincidence that it started with the patch from 2 weeks ago.
This should have been fixed by now. Just watching around and hoping the next patch fixes the problem isn’t a good solution.
Pretty sure it’s just CERN. Every week they run with a different tag. And yes, they can field those sorts of numbers (open recruitment heh).
lol. You have no idea what you are talking about.
eotm is mostly just for karma training.
I’ve been noticing a lot more eles this weekend in top 1000 solo queue. It is good to see and these players are quite strong. Keep up the fight.
Its ele, it wont be that much of a buff anyway. It might just mean we survive a few seconds longer or that we dont get nuked down in a split second by BS thieves that just spam HS, HS, HS until we die.
If you get nuked down by a HS, HS, HS thief, then the problem is you.
@OP:
I don’t think anyone believes ANET is trying to balance the classes at this point. To your point, if their objective was balance, it would be a complete fail given the game has been out so long. I think instead they are trying to change up the meta, and make people try other items.
Just trying to find a reason for the methodology that ANET uses. The alternative is too sad to think about.
@OP:
We are in a condi meta. Everyone knows this.
I think you are someone who think ranks means something other than how much you play. Well, that or the person exploited skyhammer.
So, my opinion, who cares?
Disappointing that it seems most people except for ANET realize this map is not very good.
ANET, I get that you don’t want to admit that your two most recent maps, Spirit Watch and Skyhammer, are horrible competitive maps, but come on. Do the right thing here.
There are no decent guilds in NA.
That’s just naive.
i want an “autokick engineers around the map at 25% hp”
Why?
I don’t understand the anger with this sorry. I haven’t kept up on it and wondering why I see comments like this so much?
Right now a bunker/decap engi is the easiest spec to play in the entire game. It takes no skill and yet is very effective. That’s why there is so many comments in general.
@OP:
Wow, there will be people who complain about everything. Besides, why do you care so much about rank points. Ranks only mean that someone has either 1. played a lot or 2: abused the skyhammer exploit.
Like it or not, the leaderboards are the only way to determine how skillful someone is and they aren’t even that great at that.
Just enjoy the game
Comments about today’s Ready Up:
1. The updates: This was really lacking. There were a lot of questions on the forums around what happens with glory boosters, etc. Some of those could have been answered. It would have been good to hear.
2. The matches: I enjoyed watching these. Conquest isn’t the easiest to watch, and the shoutcasters did a good job keeping it entertaining.
Overall, a fun Ready Up. Oh, and I like that grouch and chap kept it more casual. This is a game. Watching something formal is not in the game spirit. Nice job overall.
They should allow us to trade in glory boosters for other boosters in the game.
@OP: I agree with both of your suggestions. It should be removed from solo queue. For sPvP, skyhammer should definitely be dodgeable.
Well, all of the elites from that reddit article were pretty bad. Let’s hope ANET has better judgement than whoever wrote that article.
If a thief ever gets a new elite, it needs to be a signet.
