Edge of the Mists coming next week!

Edge of the mists is a mix between the current WvW maps and PvE events. You do have the regular WvW stuff, plus unique boss mechanics that scale similar to PvE. There are also other PvE events that grant buffs to your server on the map (condi removal, regen, etc)

It is targeted more for smaller roaming groups than for large zergs. At least, there are not as many places suitable for large zerg vs zerg fights.

Some people will like it, and some will hate it. It depends on the individual.

What a lot of people do not understand is that no one is happy with balance. In PvP, there are OP classes and specs. In WvW, there are OP classes and specs. Usually these are different.

In TC it has been pretty empty the last 4 weeks or so. Not sure how we are still doing so well. I think it is really a complement to the hardcore WvW guilds there because we shouldn’t be in many fights right now

Well, I don’t think anyone was really happy with season 1. The league were separated in such a way that the best fights were in other tiers. It just didn’t work out well.

A league is only a good idea once scoring is adjusted to account for population.

…..wait…. thief sword #2 needs another nerf? It can already be cc’d now.

It’s more of a gameplay mechanism. No teleport, but the ability to cripple opponents AND pass one condition back to whoever you hit with the sword. A lot of thieves have been looking for additional ways to clear conditions, and this one give them one, plus damage the opponent at the same time.

Imagine a necro hitting you with 8 stacks of bleeds. Sword 2, and those bleeds are now back on the necro. In a group fight, the sword hits multiple opponents. Imagine dropping those 8 bleed stacks on 3 enemies all at once

I tried them awhile back before the nerf and didn’t like them. Took too long to kill people and mostly they were good for killing noobs who don’t know how to play against confusion. That’s not reliable in fights though.

Hello, to be honest with all the respect i think arena net doesn’t even know what they are doing at this point, nerfing the most important thing of a player… they’ r healing, even tho they say is to “OP” what other thing do we have to sustain condition’s such as poison… probably some of u are going to say cleasing ire, shake it off, soldier runes with the shouts or even berserker stance, but the truth is that you cant fight a condition thief cause u can beraly hit them they’ll just permastealth when berserker stance and you’ll be kittened when they start the permablind and i don’t even want to talk about mesmers… players that can stealth have a huge advantage they can not only heal completely but they can also hit insane burst dmg plus theyr movility is just insane.
know that warriors r going to become fresh meat, they will no longer be “warriors” but a simple civilian looking for help in wvw, cheers.
PS: OFC all this is for hardcore players, nabs that haven’t fought good player’s wouldn’t understand.

Let me put this simply. HS should have been nerfed by 20% base and the tie to healing power should have been increased at the same time. If you want to run all zerker or soldiers, your heal would be 20% less than today. If you want to run clerics, it should heal for more than today.

I think ANET has something in their matchmaking to do this. It seems like one side is intended to win from the start. If it happens, rankings stay the same. If it doesn’t, that when you see more movement up and down.

If you get into planned losing team rut, just do something else for the day.

PPT or Bags?

It depends. Sometimes you go for the fights and sometimes for the PPT.

Typically, it is PPT the first half of the week and then fights after the matchup is decided. Of course, if your server knows the matchup is over from the start, they might just look for the bags all week.

I would like to see sword #2 changed completely. It is just not fun to fight against. I’d remove the teleport, keep the immobilize, add a cripple, and transfer one condition to an enemy.

How would you compensate for the lack of survivability you’d create?

You’d be gaining survivability through the condition transfer. Imagine that every time you press 2, you pass a condition that you have back to the target. An example, a necro hits you with 8 stacks of bleeds. You press 2 and the stacks are put back on the necro. Not only are you protecting yourself, but you are adding a lot of damage back onto the target. Especially with a sword mainhand that hits multiple targets, you are doing big damage.

Of course you are more vulnerable to direct damage, but I think the condi protection makes up for it.

Both MM Necro and Spirit Ranger are quite weak builds.

The solution to half your balance worries is to stop fighting a game mode which isn’t even supported by the game.

1. MM Necro is weak? Are you serious? At least ANET has already announced that it will be getting nerfed in the next balance patch. Good news there.
2. Spirit ranger? What spec do you think is used by rangers in tournaments?
3. The problem is that it is the only PvP game mode right now. As much as conquest is boring to me, until there is a team deathmatch, we are all stuck playing it.

ANET wants to make money here. So make everyone happy. Create a new gem store item that allows you to change the stats of an ascended armor piece. Something like 500 gems for 6 uses.

Oh, and I agree with others who say that it should be account bound. I personally would love to see the elimination of soul bound from just about everything .

Increase the lowest 3 by 2k, decrease the highest 2 by 2k and it would be fine.

The problem with that is – Thief have low damage but insane burst potential as well as stealth. Now the way Ele were they deserved the low health but after having so many nerfs i feel they are the only “low” health class that needs it to be buffed to counter all the nerfs they have received

Eles have a much better heal potential though. As for burst, I argue that a GC mesmer could put out as much damage as any class.

2) With zerg blobs today, once MS goes down, the zerg is already
past the point you AOEd.

3) If you are standing in MS at a gate during a siege you deserve to go
down.

A few points…

1. This is for PvP so point 2 and 3 do not apply.
2. You probably don’t know this, but MS does not have a red circle. That means if you are defending a point and fighting someone else, you won’t even know MS was cast until it hits you. At the very least, it needs a red circle.

1. Stupidly easy to win 1v1 on this class. There shouldn’t be a class that is this strong in 1v1.

erm this is really a not very constructive comment, the way u wrote it here. every class should be viable in 1v1 and group play. i agree though that the mesmer is very strong in it. i would rather have a little less 1v1 and more group and zerg strength. a light armor class should not be a 1v1 duelist only.
i main a mesmer and wouldnt mind less 1v1 and more zerg and group abilities. mesmers have been nerfed so hard that all we got left is dueling builds. i used to never play the dueling mes builds, but now im almost forced into pu so i can at lest survive the zerg and maybe get 1 or 2 hits on a few targets. we used to be able to fight with the zerg and deal nice dmg while supporting the group, but now there is none of that left, but the veilbot duty. the dueling builds only got so popular as this is the only thing left for us and thats also why it is bugging your guys so much, because before mesmers would spec into group builds that arent good in 1v1 like glamour and there were overall way more builds out there. now we are improvising builds that arent even real builds for group play.
so yeah if nerfing the dueling builds in wvw is what it takes for us to finally get away from the veilbot duty, then yes please anet go ahead an redesign our class.

I agree with this. I think mesmer is too strong 1v1, but on the flipside offers virtually nothing to a team dynamic (other than veil as you mentioned in WvW). I could talk a lot about the buffs they need from a group standpoint, but this thread is only focused on the items for each class that need to be nerfed.

One huge problem if they nerf eles:

There’s absolutely no reason to play them anymore.

PvP:
Nobody plays them anyway except for fun or because they like the challenge. Even the fresh air builds are pretty terrible imo since you just die instandly against any decent thief.

WvW:
AoEs + water fields are the only reasons why staff eles are good in WvW. Even the CC is pretty useless nowadays since the majority of a zerg are either warriors or guardians.

PvE:
Only viable because you can exploit flawed game design. If they fix those things eles won’t be played in PvE anymore.

There’re so many things they should have nerfed right after the release but that’s too late now. Eles simply don’t work without exploiting flawed game design and those “OP” skills/traits. A lot of terrible traits and skills and the lowest base stats in the game just make it impossible.

As I mentioned in my previous reply… this list is just for the nerfs needed by every class. Eles certainly need buffs, but that isn’t the point of this thread. This thread just calls out the skills that are ridiculous on every profession.

Ok, this is a post that probably most people will argue since it focuses on the nerfs needed on every class. Yes, every class has certain areas where they are too good. Anyway, let’s go through them.

Necro:
1. MM needs a reduction. It is too easy to play and is mostly skill-less
2. Death shroud. They should not be able to enter deathshroud when under the effects of any CC. Fear is a perfect example.

Thief:
1. Sword 2. It is just not fun to fight against. Remove the teleport aspect and instead add in a cripple and a transfer of one condition to whoever you hit on your next attack.

Warrior:
1. Hambow is too strong. The immobilize needs a big reduction.
2. Healing signet. Reduce the base by 20% but at the same time increase the tie to healing power by a lot. In other words, if someone wants to spec for clerics, it should heal for more than today. If they want to go zerker or soldiers, it should be 20% less than today.

Engineer:
1. Bunker ele is currently the easiest spec to play in the entire game. Drop bombs, grenades, mines, heal up fully, and then go again. Takes no skill to be quite good.

Mesmer:
1. Stupidly easy to win 1v1 on this class. There shouldn’t be a class that is this strong in 1v1.

Ranger:
1. Spirits. Yes they received a small nerf, but the fact still remains…. no one wants to play against a petting zoo. As with necro MM, minimal skill is required to be quite good.
2. Melee vs range. These are rangers and should be the king of distance. Buff their bows and nerf their melee specs

Ele:
1. Meteor shower is too strong. AOE damage in general across this game is too high. Nerf the damage of this skill and buff some of the single target skills

Guardian:
Ok, so I lied. Haven’t seen anything that I’d specifically nerf. Maybe I just didn’t run into very many good ones over the past week or so.

You are mostly correct. The problem is that the average skill set of players in the game is not very high. I don’t get how it is even possible to get downed on the phase 2 platforms. The circle comes up, and dodge out of it. I’ve never been in a group that has not beaten our platform. So, why do so many platforms fail?

These types of open world events are not a good idea. It just spawns too much hatred within the community towards each other.

Please give us more Skyhammer maps.

I love skyhammer.

I get so happy every time this map pops up in soloq. The kind of skill it requires is completely different than normal maps and its like a breath of fresh air for me.

IMO we need more maps like it.

Guys, its sad to say, but this condi meta is here to stay. Players are being rewarded for passive play in which all they do is spam all their condi skills and watch other players melt. As of now in SPvP 80% of all specs (that i have encountered this previous week of gameplay – it was actually 76.795 but i rounded up) that ive encountered were condition based because it they require little to no talent/skill to play well to get amazing results. On top of all that A-Net has now decided to nerf (even though its a small nerf) power based specs – the only specs in the game that require a skill cap to play well. Guys, in all honesty, what do you feel of this current meta? I personally feel that conditions need to be reduced before this game loses a large majority of its player base due to frustration.
(examples of this ridiculous meta are spirit rangers, PU mesmers, terrormancers, condi engi’s, condi warrior’s and ETC)

AOE needs a major nerf. It is way too easy to just spam AOE, especially in a conquest type game mode. Make people actually pick a target and fight them.

The issue is that ANET is trying to fix a PvE warrior issue by nerfing zerker gear. No one ever said.. “Let’s run COF. Give me 5 zerker mesmers”.

Unfortunately, ANET has a weird balance methodology. Instead of fixing the core problem, they try to make wide scale other changes. Great for job security I guess, but horrible for balance.

At the very least, these changes should be made in PvE and not applied to WvW.

I’m not really a big fan of the spirit watch orb mechanic. There is a reason that map is not in tPvP. It is way to unbalanced around certain classes right now. I’d like it much more if people were just fighting over one point (think foefire center but slightly larger) and the winner of that fight wins the battle.

GvG in WvW is much more fun when you do a 15v15 or 20v20. It adds a whole different level of strategy.

I think you guys are talking without actually trying it out. GvG in SPvP is just a miniaturized version of the 20v20. The builds used in the Zerg format can work if tuned for smaller scale combat.

Only recently did we at bloodytech held our SPvP GvG tournament and quite a few builds that we saw there aren’t used in normal SPvP.
Team NRK (and I think Trill) were using a Support Necro. An Elementalist was also used by NRK, Stream Team and 55HP Monks a class that people consider dead in the water in SPvP.

For you to say there isn’t any build diversity within the SPvP GvG is for you to not be well informed.

I didn’t saythere isn’t build diversity. It is that the number of options are much less than in WvW. It is basic vs complex.

I’m not against the team deathmatch concept in PvP. In fact, I think it would be much more exciting to watch than conquest. I’m just saying that the strategy is much greater if you build it into WvW. You can’t really argue with that and all of the armor/trinket/rune/weapon/food combos.

The problem isn’t the amount of the heal. The problem, as was stated on the dev live stream, is that it is “skill-less”. Personally, I’d like to see the passive side weakened quite a bit and the active buffed by a large amount. That would give people a reason to actually hit the 6 key.

An active that is really strong with ANY passive at all is just broken. Imagine fighting them. They regen over and over. Finally they heal for a ton when they use the active. Then they can start regenning again when the heal comes off cd again. The mere fact the skill has a passive makes it required for the active to be really bad or the whole thing will be even more broken.

Unless you mean the active heals for 6k and the passive ticks for 200. Then this would be fine sure (possibly, I havent really thought about it)

Yes, I mean something along the lines of your second paragraph. The passive should be there in a small way, but the active should be much stronger. The problem today is that the passive is amazing and the active is lackluster. It’s better to not even press 6.

They do? I’m in the best WvW guild on raid-scaled for almost a year now and I haven’t noticed a lot of my usefullness besides veil so far after all nerfs.

The amount of useless arguments people are giving in these threats are almost to cry about… Sad thing is that arenanet doesn’t seem to care wether you give arguments or not but just base their balancing around a spinning toll that, when it ends with spinning and falls on a section, it will be that section to get nerfed.

Definitely looking forward to seeing you guys fight EP if you ever come to NA. They are probably the top NA GvG guild right now.

There are definitely hackers, but I haven’t seen too many. Usually it is speed or jump hacks. I once saw someone jump from near the SW gate of the BL tower all the way over to the mountain side. So yes, it happens, but not too often. Hopefully ANET is monitoring and banning these people when it happens.

The proposed changes to critical damage gear aren’t specifically PvE-focused, but focused rather on the stat weighting of critical damage itself. We’re not aiming to make crit damage unviable, just to bring it closer to other gear sets.

As for the first feature build, there will be other factors coming into play that could very well offset the changes, including reworked runes/sigils, the ability to use sigils in new combinations (including 2 on a two-handed weapon), and the profession balance changes. Just something to keep in mind.

Condi is already > than DPS in a WvW group setting. How is condi going to be addressed?
