Anyone to just provided an answer without qualifying whether it is for roaming, team fights, or zerging, just lost all credibility. There is no one best class. It depends on what you are trying to do.

what do you think would change about not only tactics in WVW as well as spread of playerbase within the WVW community if downstate did not exist, or did not exist in the way it is currently?

Its an interesting question to ask because downstate changes so much of the gameplay to such a degree its impossible to 100% see what would happen if it did not exist.

IMO there would be way more synergy groups running around (10-15 man) and zergs would be a lot less prominent. Tactics would have to be based on reacting a lot quicker to smaller scale assaults at the risk of being punished greatly.

It would not change the zerg at all. People will still zerg because they like to play around other people. Zergs are the safest place to be.

There are already plenty of smaller groups running around. Typically these are for guilds. If you don’t like the zerg, join one of them.

More Counter Stealth Play

Would you guys like to see more counter stealth play. I personally liked the idea and think anet should add more options on different classes. Here are a few possible suggestions for classes im familiar with. Mostly changing utilites not used often.

Engi suggestions
1) Thumper or rifle turret replaced with Detector turret. Detector turret- X amount radius around the turret de stealths every x seconds. Overcharge ability- Everybody in the explosion radius is de stealthed and gets revealed condition for x seconds. Toolbelt skill- Single target reveal condition for x seconds just like sic em.
2)Utility goggles reworked- Single target reveal condtion for x seconds. Toolbelt skill fury for x seconds immunity to blindess for x seconds stun breaker.
3)Throw mine changed to throw detector mine- Works exactly like it does now except it adds a reveal condtion for x seconds. Can keep the knockback or lose it. Toolbelt skill stays the same or maybe 1 second reveal condtion per mine.

Ranger Suggestions
1) Vipers nest changed to Detector trap-Works just like vipers nest except each pulse gives reveal condition for x seconds instead of poison.
2)Search and rescue changed to search and reveal. Targeted x radius aoe reveal with or without a reveal condition applied.

Warrior Suggestions
1) On my mark reworked- Single target reveal condtion for x seconds.
2) Replace x banner with detector banner- De stealths anybody in the banner radius every x seconds no stat bonus from banner.

So like my ideas hate em have some of your own or just want to qq if you main a thief feel free to comment.

No to anything that adds even more value to warriors. That class does not need it.

Perma stealth Thieves are awful and right now I would like to see them go, but I think that’s not the foundation of the whole problem. IMO, it is the targeting of GW2, which makes it cumbersome to fight Mesmers and Thieves.

PS: Stealth Traps should be cheaper to obtain and the fact that they exist is an indication for me that devs too think there is something phony with stealth in WvW.

Thieves are not hard to fight since it is typically just one of them. tab target and you are good to go. Mesmers are much more difficult to fight against.

Everyone with a little common sense knows that thiefs are ridicoulus broken in WvW.
perma-Stealth, highest mobility, blindspam, cond remove and the crazy damage that forces almost all classes except thiefs to stack toughness.

Got backstabbed for 12k today on my 3.4K Armor…
4 RL buddys stopped playing GW2 because of this madness.

ArenaNet, i love you guys for making this awesome game.

However, can you please explain me how such a big group of smart developers never realized that it makes absolutely no sense that players can damage a gate.

Not only is defending freaking impossible (Blobs just melt gates). It is simply COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE that the hard work of a dedicated group of people to escort dolyaks to a keep to finally have a WP can all be undone by a single troll who’s sole purpose in WvW is to tag the enemy keep. Seriously, our EB waypoint has been contested the whole week as some dude had nothing better to do than tag it all day long.

PS revise dolyaks as well, escorting them is useless since a thief can just stealth up to them and 3 hit them before you can even kill him. Increase Dolyak’s health and toughness and give them perma regeneration. Even when escorting with 3 people it is still impossible to keep a dolyak alive.

Huh? Defense in this game is already really easy. A group of 5 defenders with smart siege placement can hold of a zerg for a long time.

It sounds to me like you just need to team up with some people who are more experienced at WvW that you are.

I’m basing my list on the strategic value of various builds in team comps overall as well as their value compared to other builds that attempt to complete the same role they do. I’m also basing this off the average skill level of players.

S Tier:
1. Hambow warrior
2. Any other warr that is not extremely glassy
3. Engi point assaulter
4. Engi point bunker
5. Spirit ranger

A Tier:

6. MM Necro
7. Condi Necro
8. PU Mesmer
9. Bunker Guard

B Tier:

10. Shatter Mesmer
11. Non bunker, non DPS guards.
12. DPS guard
13. Glass warriors
14. D/P thief
15. S/D thief

C Tier:
16. Rifle engis
17. Power rangers
18. Burst eles
19. Non burst, AoE support, area denial staff eles
20. Non D/P or S/D thieves
21. Power necros
22. All other types of eles

I’d say this is the best list so far.

I am sorry but I absolutely disagree.

Most classes just rotate their cooldown and spam whatever is ready for maximum efficiency. I have less than 2 hour played on my Warrior and can play him competitively.

Don’t use an insanely OP warrior to make a point. It discredits the rest of your post.

As for the OP, the videos are great.

No, balance is possible. The problem is the methodology used by the balance team. Here is what happens. They discover a problem with the meta. So, they either nerf or buff different things. After a few days, everyone realizes an area was either over or under nerfed. So, what is the smart thing to do? It would be to modify the skill they just changed. Instead, the balance team refuses to admit their mistake and instead modifies a ton of other skills to try to make up for it.

So, to the OP…. the game could be balanced; it just will not ever be with the current design methodology.

Rank is not equal to kill. Plus a lot of people have multiple accounts. You never know who you are playing.

The extents people are going to avoid Skyhammer and Spirit Watch are hilarious. The maps are truly an embarrassment to the game.

December 10 Patch - Our Constructive Feedback

Here is the reality of the patch. It shifted skills around a bit, but didn’t impact the core issues with the meta. AOE spams are still too strong. The warrior is still OP. A few thoughts on the classes:

1. Eles. There are a lot of complaints about this class, but they are in a good place for what they are. They are a class that is good at a lot of things but isn’t great at anything. That prevents them from being added as a top tPvP class. The problem is that if you make them great at something, certain other areas need to be nerfed or they will become OP like earlier this year.
2. Mesmers. Were the best 1v1 class before the patch and are even stronger in that area now.
3. Thief . No permastealth is good, but that is really more of a WvW issue. From a PvP standpoint, they are basically forced into a GC type build now. If the goal of the patch is to increase build diversity, it was a total fail.
4. Guardian. In a good place
5. Warrior. Hambow? OP. Eviscorate? Too strong. A good start would be to nerf the base healing of the signet while at the same time increasing the tie to heal power. In other words, if they stack heal power it should heal for a bit more than today. If they go zerkers, it should heal for much less than today.
6. Engi. This class is also in a good place. The problem is that there are no many good places who use them.
7. Ranger. It is crazy that the best ranger specs do not involve a shortbow or long bow. Why is a warrior a better ranger than a ranger?
8. Necro. Has been too strong for awhile now. Too many AOE spams.

@OP: this is really not fair to ANET. You completely underestimate all of the work they did with the nerfs.

There was probably an increase in participation when solo queue was added to the dailies. I am sure that increase disappeared after a few days when people realized how much time it takes to complete that daily.

I always find it amusing that eles complain about their class being so weak. It is not. Eles are one of the most difficult classes to fight against when someone good is playing them. The problem is that a lot of classes are “easier” in comparison. In other words, eles are not weak, they are just harder to play.

Anet you punish people with bad connection! I disconnected nearly the end of my game and I get dishonorable for 2 days! It’s bad enough that they put tournaments as a effing daily! Its already challenge to win… I’m really starting to hate this game.

It depends. If it is a first time infraction, 2 days is ridiculous. If you have 20 infractions in your past, 2 days is not enough.

My problem with the JP is simply that it is not as fun as last year. They should have left it as it is. I liked having to run fast to get to the end before I froze. Now you can go slow and warm up by the farm half way. Huh?

The match up threads are the best part of the WvW forums. Sure, there is smack talk and sure there are a few trolls. There are also a lot of great conversations in there too.

Instead of making the wrong decision ANET, why don’t you instead roll out new forum technologies. Allow people to bury comments. If a poster has too many negatives, they can’t post for a period of time. That will be a way better idea than deleting the forums.

No. That is an overly simplistic response. HS needs a big cut to base but a much larger tie to healing power. In other words, if a player wants to run zerker, it should heal for much less than today. If a player wants to stack healing power, it should heal for MORE than today.

There needs to be a direct trade off between damage and tankiness.

Going to be pretty short on this, as I’m trying to my hardest not to let my anger govern this post. However anger is what finally pushed me to make my first post about a real issue.

I don’t play spvp, so I don’t know if this is an issue there, but in WvW perma-stealth thieves are pretty much beyond ridiculous and into the absurdity level. Two of my friends have quit playing this game entirely because of thieves, mesmers.. thieves, mesmers… repeat. I told them that mesmers are simply a learning situation, but thieves? No buddy. Who ever designed thieves were just one of those spoiled kids that would cry if they didn’t get whatever they want. so enough with the ramble, I said i’d be short.

Thieves IMO are completely busted in WvW because of how intangible they are to catch. But guess what? it’s not because of their stealth. let them be invisible all day, I don’t care.

Shadow step is the problem. Cut the range of that move in half. I have faced off against actual speed hackers before, and let me tell you, I always have to pay real close attention to whether it’s a real speed hacker or a shadows stepping thief.
I’d like to see what you guys think though. Surely I don’t know everything.

Downed state needs to go just in wvw for one reason. Its causing separation within the server. More and more guilds are running by them selves and untagged in wvw because they don’t want people following. Most guilds feel anyone not in their guild is a rally bot and this is where the problem is with downed state in wvw .

This wouldn’t change the issue at all. Guild groups will still want to run as a group. Even if there is no downstate, they still don’t want people dropping the wrong fields at the wrong time or being in the wrong position.

and besides, there is nothing wrong with people wanting to run as a guild. Either try to join that guild, find a guild more appropriate to you, or just follow the pugmander.

The map isn’t really balanced yet. That said, DC has already said they are going to be putting up more railings or something around a lot of the map to minimize the issue.

I think the general consensus is that skyhammer is bad. Not sure the point of this post though. The reality though is that only one vote counts here and ANET still likes the map. In fact, they designed the new WvW Edge of the Mists map with a lot of the same principles in mind.

the problem is that armor and attack power should be exact opposites. In general light armor classes should have higher attacks but die way faster. Heavy armor should have much smaller attacks but live a lot longer. Unfortunately the game is not balanced that way. The result is heavy armor > lighter armor in most areas of the game. think about it this way, if you are running fractals, does anyone say LF ranger or LF ele. No, heavy classes are much preferred.

I hope you all did what I did. In the last CDI for commander system, I made the recommendation that commanders should be able to unclaim any structure that does not have a guild buff. It would resolve this situation.

Far too few have issues with the downed state. I think it’s fine as is.

The only people who don’t have an issue with downed/defeated state are the people who benefit from it which are the zerglings. So, yes… those who have an issue with it are in the minority.

Downed state is here to stay. What really needs to go is being able to revive people who have been spiked.

Not true. Small roaming teams benefit as well. The only people who don’t benefit are solo roamers since there is no one to res them.

I don’t see the fun in taking out camps solo. I wish they beef up the AI to make it more of a challenge. I gets boring to take out or be taken out in 1 or 2 hits. Bring in the Elite Toxic AI to where each and every NPC veteran has their own set of down skills thus more effort to get the job done.

I would say PvE content has stolen a burnt out audience. When Edges of the Mists hits, the population will return and likely even before then. Everyone is grabbing the free loot right now.

Maybe. There is a lot of promise to edge of the mists, but also a lot of needed changes. Right now it is like a WvW version of skyhammer and if you play PvP, you know the feedback related to that. I believe they are going to put in more railings and so forth to combat that.

The map itself has a lot more PvE elements than the current maps from home section buffs to wondering NPCs. To me the map seems more like something to do while waiting for a queue than a map that is targeted for “prime time”. Of course with the lack of WvW population right now, I doubt queues are an issue.

Just a few comments overall. First, I think the ability to get ascended gear is not balanced well between the different game modes. In WvW in particular, getting dragonite is way too painful.

Second, I’d like to see all ascended items be account bound vs soul bound. I don’t want to grind to gear up all my alts. Let them share what I’ve earned.

Third, I’d also like to see legendaries be account bound for the same reason as #2. In addition, I’d like to see people have a path to make armor be legendary. This could have the same stats as ascended, but give people who enjoy grinding something to work towards.

only pugs duel. dueling is generally is a pretty good sign that a player doesnt really have anything better to offer a team. theres a reason its called “world v world”. might consider changing to svp.

You must not WvW much. 1v1 situations come about quite often, even as part of a team. You might be clearing a keep, or protecting/attacking a dolyak, catching up to your zerg/group, or getting your server the bloodlust buff. It is not just about people who stand behind the windmill.

It isn’t that OP so I wouldn’t worry about a nerf. It is a condi “burst” on a 180 second cooldown. If the other player uses a condi clear, the fight reverts to standard P/D, but without SR or BP.
