I think I miss-understood one of your original points. I thought you wanted to replace hot join with custom arena. I’m not a fan of that. I do like the following:

people already can play solo or team, in solo arena and team arena. there is no need to remove hotjoin. hotjoin players play in the official anet hotjoin servers because they do not like playing in solo arena or team arena. removing hotjoin will not achieve anything at all.

This way it pretty much caters to all the current player types.

no, this does not cater to players who wish to play in the original public anet hotjoin servers with default map rotation and settings.

and they can continue to do so in custom arenas.

Don't Remove Glory

So, after all the RU, postings on here, or the FAQ, I have not heard one good reason for the removal of glory AT THIS TIME. Why not leave in glory and then stop awarding it when the new rewards are ready. This gives people a reason to keep playing PvP while you are working on the longer term solution.

I cannot think of one good reason to stop awarding it right now.

Clearly the OP is speaking about hot join. Of all the current balance issues within PvP, mesmers and thieves are not at the top of the list. S/P thief and PU mesmer do need some adjustments though.

Your issue is that you are trying to 1v1 someone while trying to find your team. That’s your current problem. You will not win a 1v1 while using a team supporting spec, nor should you.

Run back to your team with others, or use a 1v1 spec.

  • When in game voip exists competitive casuals (and all players frankly) will be able to more seamlessly progress into higher tiers of pvp via the ranking system, and because there won’t be the environment shock of the skill level disparity between Solo Q and Team Q, because they should be merged after voip exists.

I disagree with this. The difference between high performance teams and regular teams is not just voice comms. A team that is together knows how the others play. Each has an assigned role and they perform it. They know how to do rotations. They know how to use combo fields effectively.

Voice chat with a bunch of randoms will not help. Actually it will probably make things worse since people would just be yelling at each other.

Not every game has a toxic voice community like Call of Duty or Dota 2. Voice comms won’t solve lack of experience or skill, but it helps a lot.

If not voice comms, how would you deal with the gap between regular and high performance teams? Or would you just cede the queue to high performance teams only?

Smite’s system is awesome too. There are a few prerecorded voice-messages that can be played by typing specific keys in your keyboard.

SMITE’s Voice Guided System (VGS) is by far the easiest, and most efficient way that I’ve seen to streamline communication in non-voip pickup game situations.. this is the future in solo-queue MOBA or any conquest style PvP, in my opinion.

Load all the ‘calls’ that players have to make on teamspeak typically, as pre-recorded voice recordings.

“Attack Middle/Far/Home”
“X Incoming Middle/Far/Home”
“Be careful Middle/Far/Home”
“Defend Middle/Far/Home”
“Gank Middle/Far/Home”
“Retreat Middle/Far/Home”
“Elite is ready”
“It’s a trap!”
“Group up!”

And of course small talk would be fun, too. IE: Sorry, Thanks, Wait, Cancel That, Yes, No, Be Right Back, Bye, Good Game, ETC.

This is the best idea that I’ve heard. I’d love to see this implemented over regular voip.

I typically turn off team chat in solo queue. It rarely has anything good to say. If things are going well, no one says anything. If things are going bad, everyone thinks it is everyone else’s fault. No real value to any voice chats. I wouldn’t use it.

For team queue, those teams already have access to voice com. I don’t think they need something in game.

I still think removing solo queue is a BAD idea. At the end of the day, who cares if they move onto team queue? The idea is to get as many people as possible into PvP so that the matchups are better for everyone, regardless of how they choose to play.

As for just having everyone join team queue, that is also less than ideal. You gave an example of a team needing an extra. That is only one example. What about the scenario where one team has 5 guild members and the other team is completely random. I did that a few times today and it is not fun for either side.

I’ve noticed over the last couple of weeks that there seems to be a problem with the stomp animation. The enemy will raise their hand and then I’ll get spiked. It seems to happen pretty much every time and is not specific to a particular class.

It is almost as if the spike animation is start too late.

Has anyone else seen this?

They specificaly mentioned that when they were further along with ANYTHING (I think the exact words are "when sufficient progress has been made) they would release information about it.

In the past they’ve usually give us a 3-6 month timeframe to expect it AFTER they’ve released information on it (see: leaderboards, solo Q, balance updates, PAX).

I think it’s safe to say we shouldn’t expect to get anything for quite a while considering they have not given us any solid information regarding new game modes or the reward system.

My hunch is that we’ll get the next feature build in August/October based on them hyping up the talk about telling us info on the future updates, but not actually giving us info on the future updates. They’ll probably announce what’s coming in the next few weeks via the RU’s like Allie said, and then we’ll get a more solid time frame which will be 3-6 months from when they release that info.

I do not think you are correct on August/October. That said, I do agree with your 3-6 months. They originally announced the rune/sigil changes in January. So, if we say 3-4 months that puts us in the April/May timeframe. Given that they are removing rewards from PvP as of this Tuesday, they cannot wait too long to introduce a new system.

I fully expect they feature patch will come in late April or May. Just my opinion of course.

The current issue with eles is that they are at the extremes. They can no longer play an all around type role. Their main options:

Spec 1. They have a virtually unkillable build in 1v1. At the same time, they do not put out any damage.
Spec 2. A GC ele has the highest burst in the game. If they go down that route, they also die quickly.

The issue is there is no viable spec anywhere in the middle.

No. Best for solo q is any of the OP specs.

hambow, decap engi, mm necro, spirit ranger, s/p thief, pu mesmer, or bunker guardian.

As soon as eles get a bit of a survivability boost, you can add burst ele into that list as well.

Guys, many of you are saying that removing the leaderboard wouldn’t help solo queue and would actually make it more like hotjoin.

What I would like to see is something more a long these lines:

1. Remove hotjoin, keep custom arenas
2. Add “Unrated match” which is a queue that has all maps and a hidden MMR
3. Keep solo queue, but remove skyhammer and possibly spirit watch
4. Players under rank 20 may only compete in Unrated matches to begin with, their performance in this mode will be used to calculate their Glicko rating for when they start in solo queue.

Now, I’ve made these suggestions before and people have said “But I don’t want to have to queue, hotjoin allows me to get a quick game in and leave whenever I want”. I don’t really think this holds up, GW2 games are quite short compared to MOBA games, and the queue time + game time rarely adds up to more than 20 minutes.

I am not sure that #1 and #2 will help drive anymore people to the game mode.

#1: Great for ANET (gems wise), but the downside is inconsistency of rules from arena to arena

#4: I don’t really agree with this one. The current problem is that it is too easy to move up the ladder. It is ridiculous that we see people with less than 20 games in the top 100. If the matchmaking was done better, you’d see people with similar skill levels playing each other. Rank does not always equal skill especially with the skyhammer farmers out there.

We do need to find ways to bring in more players though. The best ways are:
1. More of a guild focus and easier to find PvP focused guilds
2. Better rewards (and I do not mean PvE equipment)
3. A league with achievements to bring in the PvE crowd. As I mentioned above though, the matchmaking/ladders must be improved first.
4. Fast balance patches. It is wrong that we’ve been talking about these specs for a long time now and nothing has happened: hambow, decap engi, mm necro, spirit ranger, s/p thief, pu mesmer

I disagree about removing solo queue and the associated leaderboards. For some of us, it is the ONLY reason we even PvP. Doing a solo queue into team queue isn’t fun because half the time you are facing premade teams. Hotjoin or even custom arena isn’t all that exciting either.

and skyhammer needs to be removed. Ranked or not, it doesn’t matter. I wouldn’t even play it in hot join.

When are we going to see some changes on this map? We need the following changes…

1. The orb carrier should not be able to use any of their skills or utilities. It is probably better than the orb carrier receives a new set of skills and HP/toughness should be equalized across all carriers.
2. The orb should only generate twice per game and be worth double the points of today.

Every loyal sPvPers has stackS of them, I just can’t use em up as I simply cannot play 600+ hours of sPvP in the short amount of time given before they’re worthless.

P.S Stop making them drop from achievement boxes + BL chests.

To be honest though, even if it stopped dropping. We still can’t use them all up. New players will completely benefit from this since they WILL be able to use them up, while the older loyal players will get shafted by having a ton of their resources deleted resulting in waste.

It isn’t a benefit to new players. That’s incorrect logic.

That said, it IS a bigkittento the loyal players.

Oh, it was terrible. The first team that got their hands on a ‘flag’ basically won because it was so much easier to run away from your opposition than through them.

Push or pull sounds boring.

The pull wouldn’t work for the reason you mentioned.
Push would encourage a bunch of bunkers.

Let’s just do real CTF where you’d need to attack and defend at the same time. We just need the flag carrier to be balanced. As soon as someone picks up a flag, they should lose the ability to use any of their weapon skills or utility/elite skills. Instead, the orb carrier should get a set of new skills. HP/Toughness of the flag carrier should also be equalized.

They tried that. It didn’t work so hot, apparently. Now, what they didn’t mention is if they tried adding some Huttball-like twists to it. For example: the ball can be passed around and the carrier gets some unique skills which are profession-specific, such as:
– Warrior – a knockdown charge
– Guardian – reflect
– Engineer- rocket boots!
– Elementalist – bazooka fireball pass
– Thief – evade dodge opponents
– Mesmer – creates a clone and passes it to himself
– Necromancer – bone armor that absorbs damage
– Ranger – eagle pet that has super long range pass

They did mention that they tried it a long time ago. Most likely they tried it in a the same way as spirit watch. That definitely wouldn’t have worked.

It was a balancing decision to help with culling in WvW (players could stealth, and when they became visible again, the enemy still couldn’t see them because the game engine was too slow). Once culling was fixed in WvW and PvE, they changed it back there and I guess for whatever reason they forgot to fix it in PvP.
