P/D is a troll build. Pure and simple. It is super fun for 1v1 and for harassing small groups. It is also good for capturing camps.
As others have mentioned, it kills really slow though and someone with good condi cleanses will be trouble. It’s fairly easy to disengage from those fights though.
Keep in mind that any thief spec has a counter. Try D/P against a full regen warrior. You won’t have the dps to beat them. Of course they won’t have any damage to kill you either.
My beef with GW2 is the profession development favoritism and the slow turtle speed of balance changes proves that this game is not a serious PvP game and should have never been advertised or treated as one.
The problem is with the balance methodology used in this game. Here is what happens…
1. ANET sees something they do not like with the current meta
2. ANET takes their best guess as how to revamp skills to change that meta
3. It becomes obvious something was overbuffed or nerfed too much.
Now this is where it gets interesting. Most people would say, ok let’s scale back the buff or nerf we just made. ANET does not think like that. Instead they start back over at #1 and the cycle continues.
The end result is a game that will never be balanced.
Zerg versus zerg in the open field usually ends up with the larger army winning. Superior tactics may prevail at times but with the rally mechanic, banner drops and rezzing the larger force will usually come out ahead.
You need a clarification on this… Pug zerg against pug zerg means the larger group will win.
Well coordinated guild group vs a larger pug zerg means the guild group will usually win. That of course assumes it is not 20v60 or something.

Found a roaming thief on Mag tonight in SoS BL. I stood there as he tried his opening attack on me and I just shrugged off his damage with two healing shouts. Not usually one to call names but asudem came along and gave him a real 1v1 and he bailed as fast as he could after taking 60% of his health in a single hit.
Am I allowed to generalize an entire server based on this thief’s trash build?

Nice cherry picking. Because some foolish things are said about warriors doesn’t mean they don’t need to be to nerfed. My main problem with Warriors are too much damage with too much survivability. The stuns bother me as well but its not necessarily the idea that Warriors have them just that I believe access to so much hard CC is bad for the game. So explain to me reasonably why Warriors should be able to do so much damage and yet be fairly hard to kill at the same time. Conditions are fairly weak against them now and Healing Signet is a tad too good. Also, they are almost like the old elementalist in terms of escapability. If they want to run away most of the time they can.
You pretty much just became a part of the exaggeration/misinformation crowd. These “cherry picked” quotes came from threads that had a good number of views/responses, that’s why I picked them.
They have decent survivability, but they can’t mid bunker as well as a Guardian (those shamans banner regen Warriors crumble under any good team because they lack protection, blocks, and invulnerability that Guardians have) they also have some good damage against stunned foes, but they can’t spike nearly as well as a Thief or even Ele without giving up a significant amount of survivability.
Also, the ability to run away in TPvP isn’t necessarily the best thing to do in a team fight. You know why top players prefer Hambow over Mace/GS, because with bow you can still apply pressure while retreating. If you just peel away you just left your team high and dry and while you may live that means nothing if the rest of your team dies.
But it was a problem with eles..so why is it ok for warriors to have even more mobility?
Ele’s mobility didn’t leave any real way for you to counter it because they could use Mist Form and then use Ride the Lightning and there was little you could do about it. With Warrior just landing a simple cripple halves their mobility, hit them with an immobilize during a Rush and there’s not much they can do about it.
There were also many other factors with the old Ele that made them have little to no counter, current Warrior meta has plenty.
The cooldown on skills like rush need to be increased. I think that is the bigger problem.
Warrior is broken though. It is currently the only class that can create an unkillable build in a 1v1 situation. True, they won’t kill the other person either, but it still isn’t right.
Sigh. Another post about this. Zergs are not created by ANET. No one forces people to zerg. So, do people zerg? The answer is because they choose to do so.
From a roamer’s standpoint, I like having a huge zerg on the map. It means I that I run into fewer 10 or 20 man groups.
At the end of the day though, people can play how they want. I don’t know which server everyone here is on, but on TC we have plenty of roamers, zerg lovers, and tagless guild runs. It’s a good mix.

I would like to see one change to the auto balance. When a team is outnumbered, remove the RNG from deciding who moves to the other team. Always move the person with the lowest score.
This is idiocy. We can not go in the evening on the map because crabs do jump puzzle and do not bring the server points.

OS doesn’t count against the queue. Yes, people need to wait in queue to get to EB, but once there they can jump to OS within a couple of minutes. As I’ve mentioned in other threads though, they should add a direct link to OS now.
If you are in 2-4 hour maps for a BL map, you must be in T1. In that case, no sympathy. Transfer somewhere else if you want to play.
As for healing signet, it just needs a change. The default heal should be cut in half and the tie to healing power should be increased dramatically.
In other words, if someone goes zerker or soldier, the passive heal should be less than today (cut in half). If a warrior wants to go cleric, it should heal for MORE than today.

It is shocking how few people understand that more players in WvW is a good thing. You also can’t expect those from PvE to know the right way to play. Yes, you will have to explain when to take supply. Yes you will need to explain that their total zerker gear doesn’t work in all cases. Yes, you will have to explain that they shouldn’t suicide your golems.
Most people were in the same situation at one point.

You must be T1. Even on the number 4 ranked server, there are some queues, but only EB is bad. If people want to play they can.
No sympathy for T1 and people who paid guilds to come there. You get what you deserve.

Take your guild and go to a lower tier server. At the end of the day, you have to decide if buying guilds was worth it. If it was, stay and enjoy the queues. If you want to play, move servers.

Thieves are broken in PvP? Tell that to the 5+ thieves I see in SPvP matches every day.
As I said earlier, thieves are good for killing inexperienced players. You see a lot of that in sPvP. Typically people who do sPvP are either glory farming or trying new classes/builds. A thief is good at killing them.
I cant participate in WvW and do something good for my server because my free spot is occupied be useless, achievement farming kittens.

You forget one thing…. people play the game in the way that is most fun for them. The reason you don’t have people defending is because it is boring for most people.
Well on the hand, it isnt hard to get back. You can totaly carry the games with new players, in my case i think i got back in about 3-5 gaming days. You just need to adjust your build on the way. Either bunker 1v2 far for whole game or go glassy killing whole teams.
The bad thing is that those lower rank matches, i havent found any fun in them. It was very frustrating losing (at 80%s) because 1 teammate didnt do/knew his job. When you play some funzies, you then have to almost kinda grind your way back to higher ranks, where you can find the pleasure of the challenge
The only way to can carry a whole team is if you are one of the OP classes: warrior or necro. Otherwise, I’ve never seen someone good enough to carry a team.
It’s really sad that before this patch, necros and warriors were OP. After this patch, necros and warriors are OP. Seriously, it took 3 months to not fix the balance issues?

They’re fixing the queue system and bringing in an overflow map early next year. They’re working on it.
After all this time, Anet manages to disincentivize stacking into T1 — and then they have to go a screw it all up with this overflow map idea. One step forward, two steps back.

No, they are gonna cling to the biggest zerg they can find to get the achievements done as quick as possible with the least amount of effort.
So many of you fail to understand one key point…. a lot of people zerg because that’s how they enjoy playing. Large scale open field combat is what separates WvW from other game modes. We already have small scale PvP and PvE in other game modes. I don’t need WvW for that.
Yes i am on a T1 server and yes we had queue’s before this new season started BUT not queue’s that took 3-5 hours. I simply cant understand how Arenanet can put out new PvE content EVERY 2 weeks and not been able to fix things within WvW. Arenanet shows time and time again that WvW isnt their top priority. Why havent they fixed the siege building bug that have been an issue in WvW since day 1, and dont tell me to switch weapons when i am stuck after building because i am an Elementalist. Why havent they been able to improve skillag while Arenanet promised MONTHS ago to improve this issue.
I Personally am a hard core WvW player and just getting sick and tired how Arenanet keeps neglecting these bugs/issues within WvW. The WvW community within GW2 have been patient enough towards Arenanet hoping they would come with solutions towards bugs/skillag and as a reward they give us INSANE queue times with this WvW season, and a possible fix in 2014 isnt fast enough if you ask me, it needs to be resolved asap…
You should be more sick of your server buying other guilds. Queues are directly a result of that. Everyone should have known going in that a lot of new players would join WvW as a result of the AP.

I take it you primarily play another class and got pwned. Unfortunately, thieves are good at killing less experienced players.
The reality is that at this point, a thief is really only good in one area: roaming in WvW. That again assumes the thief finds plays of lower quality than them.
This has been the most fun that I’ve had in WvW in a long time. I sure wouldn’t mind having more than 1 week of this matchup!
You answered your own comment. Defense is not fun for most people. Why would ANET introduce a new mechanic that makes the game less fun for most of the players?
I see a ton of messages about queues. While you are working on the new map, add a direct link to EB JP now. This will give people something to do while they wait. They can PvP or try to get the chest. It’s way better than sitting in a queue, at least for whoever can get into the JP before it queues there!
I wonder how many ranks it would actually take to complete the necessary achievements.

As one of the top advocate againt the malpractice of thief class, the reason why i including other advocates has towned down out outcry case against OP thief is because we are carefuly taking the Wait and See Approach come into play from thief recent nerf/s.

Thieves are definitely one of the weaker classes. If you think they are currently strong for anything but hit and run, you don’t play a lot of WvW.
Achievements need 10 invader kills in a season of 7 weeks. This is clearly meant for the PVE’rs to ‘get it over with for easy APs’. Good news is, we will have long ques only on the first day of the season.
That is just the prerequisite for advanced which is 450 invader kills.
And 450 is very large right? For a whole season we should have to kill at least 10k.
Depends on how you look at it. For me a avid WvW player 450 is a joke but that could be harder for someone that has spent little to no time in WvW.

queues should be based on WvW rating, the higher rank you are.. the faster you get into wvw ( when in a queue)

I have been waiting for 3 hours to enter wvw to no avail because of the new achievements. Yes I understand you are trying to revive wvw maps but while doing it, dont sacrifice the loyal wvw players. Any WvW player I know has been cursing the new achievements placed in wvw that lured the entire pve fans.
Please either totally remove the new achievements from wvw or while queuing, give priority to the people with high ranks which suggest that they have been there fighting for their server when no one else did.
Real wvw players have been trying to keep our server over a year on its feet fighting vs greatly outnumbering servers like viz or sfr while people were busy in queensdale champion train or scarlett events. Now we cant enter the maps because those people would like to get some achievement points now.Wvw was one of the main reasons I still play this game and at this rate I am seriously considering to quit as I dont want to wait 5-6 h everyday to enter a map that might be lost through a mere disconnection.
Pve players or fanboys can flame all they want but remember when those achievement points are taken by pve players, those maps will be empty if the loyal wvw players are gone as well.

Very unfortunate that the leagues are broken apart this way. Gold league is a joke. You have 3 dominant servers, and 3 who will just take a beat down.
ANET really should have generated the leagues based on even matchups. It’s crazy to break apart 5-8. The separation is tiny. They deserve to fight together.
Some of you complain too much. You need 15 achievements for the award. There are 18 achievements possible. That means you need to do 1 JP. Just wait for a day when a Mesmer is porting in the EB jp and you’ll be all done.
It is really 3 areas:
1. People never showing up to the match
2. People disconnecting during the match
3. People standing at the spawn point the whole match
Most common is #1. Least common is #3.

THe mesmers aren’t to blame. The devs just need to fix their mishap so it will be balanced again.

I like the idea of adding a new map, but I am concerned as a mid tier wvw player that has seen players already leave to higher tier servers. I felt like the long queue times was the one incentive for players to leave T1 servers for lower population servers. Now this will be gone. It seems that there will no reason to not be on a T1 server now. Should I just plan on saving gems to transfer now?
People don’t transfer to Tier 1 to win. There are 8 match-ups going on at any given point in time. People transfer to T1 for the large scale well coordinated fights. This is the place to zerg if that is what you enjoy.
If you enjoy roaming or smaller scale fights, choose a different tier. Yes, there are some roamers in T1, but that isn’t the focus. It’s like saying you are going to McDonald’s to improve your health.
Look at it this way. .. The higher the tier, the more about the zerg. So, choose a tier that fits your playstyle.

Substantially more gold / wxp earned as the teammates around you decreases in number per kill. Scale THE kittenTTTTTT out of it. You want to Zerg go ahead, much less rewards. You roam and kick butt at fighting other players, you are rewarded per kill much more. Oh wait, that’s an idea that’s been in mmo pvp since mmos were created…

Instead of hating on the way other people enjoy playing, it would be smarter to focus on how to increase rewards for roamers.
I’m hopeful for the new map. I just hope it isn’t gimmicky like skyhammer and is just about knockbacks.
