Name: synkr0nized didn’t fit the name rules here, but folks online usually call me synk anyway
Main Character: Hmm... Depends on the day/what mood I am in? Ostensibly I’d say it’s my mesmer, but I try to be proficient with each class.
Current Region/Server: NA - Crystal Desert, since launch
Interested Activities or specific things you want help with: I’m embarrassed by my minimal dungeon activity and still being fractal level 1 over three years into the game. I want to change that; dungeons are fun, in any MMO, and I have no excuse for why I’ve avoided them.
Active: I typically play after work in the evenings, except on Tuesdays, catching Teq at reset and then figuring out what to do from there. Depending on my social plans, I may or may not be on during the weekend.
Additional Comments: I go after high damage, efficient builds, such as following the meta, but I want to be part of a casual, laid-back kind of group. I don’t care what people run, as long as we aren’t wiping on bosses forever. I had great experiences in GW1 and WoW with my guilds in this regard .
Do you want to be a member of the guild Legion of Honour Y/N: Sure, I’ve got a guild slot still, and if I can be of any help to others I’d love to be able to answer the call whenever I can. One of the best parts of being in a guild!
Are you happy for people to contact you directly (whisper/PM) Y/N: Sure; sorry if I don’t respond immediately -- I go AFK without logging out in MMOs sometimes.
For what it’s worth, if you go to the Wiki page for effects, some users have listed the shouts per race and gender on each effect’s page. I have not checked to see what’s missing, but it in addition to the posts above it may help.
Feel free to edit and add missing shouts, of course.
It’s not the mechanic of the tag, it’s how it’s used that can be a problem, imo.
Like when someone has the mentor tag toggled but is the one asking all the questions about an event, or commanders who afk with their tag on at boss spawns and offer no effort towards pre events.
Not much anyone can do to stop that, though.
If I recall, there have been threads asking for more control over the content in this portion of the screen. Tracking achievements was one way, but we’ve yet to gain the ability to dismiss messages. At best we can reduce them to one line or so, but honestly there’s no need to be told about Wintersday throughout the entire event, or to be still told about the PvP Leagues....
I have plenty of screen real estate, but I’d still like to be able to customize this area better. Even if I had to do it upon each login, it would still be better than having permanent messages I don’t need.
I remember also being able to use the warbler Tizlak gives you (if you chose his path in the Itzel story instance) to have access to my healing, utility, and elite skills. I had the elemental powder and ogre flute in my inventory and must’ve clicked the warbler, too.
Otherwise, if solo you’re looking at a lot of attack-stealth-play_dead chains. And, really, f that.
I scratched my head in TD for a while when I was first in there. After you explore and see where routes can and do take you, it’s fine.
I mean, it’s kind of like when you move to a new town. Eventually, even the little side road shortcuts are something you’re familiar with, but at first you might want GPS navigation for everything.
ha
I’d say that’s a fair comparison. I hadn’t gone there myself, but I could see a player getting that vibe easily.
This thread is fairly frustrating.
There seems to be a difference in dialogue in the prologue instance when you talk to Braham and Rox. It’s no big deal, but it did pique my curiosity.
Several of my characters had gone through and heard Rox say, "Hey, Commander -- that’s your Pact rank, right? ..."
However taking a couple of other characters in recently I didn’t get that line. Instead she jumped right into, "Glad you’re here. They say ...".
On the Wiki, someone edited it in late November to indicate that this difference is due to whether or not you are the Commander.
Is that accurate? All of my characters have completed the personal story before going into HoT story, and are thus Pact commanders. (some have not done every chapter of Season 2, if that’s in fact the trigger).
edit: Interestingly (to me, anyway), I think the ones that haven’t gotten the Commander line are ones I took to the jungle before doing this instance.
Obviously, this has no real impact on gameplay and progress, but if there’s some method to toggling whether or not she’ll say that line I’d love to know it.
If this has been covered in some other thread, thanks in advance if you could give me the head’s-up.

I’ve been waiting for /guitar, /flute, and /drums for three years. I was sad when the first Halloween rolled around in 2012 without the Mad King being able to command us to play music for him.
More dances would be fun, as would some of the previously mentioned emotes (e.g. /shoo). This game has such great visuals, a little fun in the form of emotes, something available in heaps in practically every MMO, here and there would be nice.
As someone not thrilled about the idea of crafting ascended armor for 9 characters, the idea is nice.
However, how much of this is also in part due to the guild’s coordination and experience? When PUGs clear the raid in exotics, it may make a stronger case.
edit: full disclosure: not in a raiding guild, haven’t done the raid yet, not even keeping track of LFR successes, but I’m assuming PUGs are still requesting full ascended
Oh, btw: you can already turn it off in the options as far as I remember.
Yeah, you can, uncheck “show all player names” and that should do the trick
I had originally replied to the thread to say similar, but since I was in game I joined a party and summoned a minion — these do not hide along with player/ally names when the option is unchecked.
“If Mordremoth can attack the Mother Tree in the Grove, it can attack anywhere!”
I’ve hung out at Camp Resolve enough that I’d like to kill this NPC several times over. A lot.
It doesn’t help that he appears to be scripted to repeat this line with minimal time between saying it.
Really, at this point just let the Flesh Golem and whatever other minions walk in the water, who cares how dumb it looks.
Hell, our minis sometimes float aimlessly in the air as we glide with no gliding animation, so.
edit: haha, no "kitten" for that?
PLOT-TWIST! I’ve been front-loading this entire post. There was no reason to read all of the above, because the only thing that matters can be boiled down to a single point*:
…
- Next time you read this post, you can skip the entire introduction and head straight to the end. Basically, what achievement-runs need. It’s almost as if I planned this!
haha, Well-played!
And it’s a great point, as well. I was actually surprised — in a good way — when my alts were immediately eligible for achievements in HoT story missions. I’d have liked to have had that option for LS2.
lol
You both used the spoiler tag backwards.
Taimi’s definitely been good in HoT, though I found her sudden complaints about people seeing her as a mascot to come out of left field, unfounded.
Of the major NPCs, I’d like to know/see more of Anise the most.
I honestly quite liked Scarlet. I thought she was voiced perfectly for the character, mary sue and all.
Canach and Taimi have had great lines in HoT. I’ve liked Canach before, but he was a lot of fun in the HoT story, rapidly climbing my ladder. He’s even better when you’re playing a sylvari.
I thought the adventures were neat when I first stumbled across a few -- racing a little car, the shooting gallery, etc. -- and then I saw that some mastery and collections are tied to them. Ah, unfortunate, as it’s no longer a for-fun mini game and part of a grind.
At least I didn’t have to pay gems to access them.
edit: It’s not that this suddenly makes the adventures themselves not fun, it’s that it means it’s likely many players will be repeating them when they’d rather not in order to attain something, and that can make them not fun.

If I understand how things on Reddit work correctly, perhaps they post there because they can’t rake in the karma here on the official forum.
Strafe (or full-out about-face) between a couple of updrafts. If he looks like he’s about to toss a rock, you either will already be headed the other way or are already in the habit of making a quick maneuver and can get out of the way.
edit: Congrats on finishing it!
I’ll take the superior mechanics and phases over the visual "epicness" of pressing 1 to fire a cannon every day. Mordy actually felt like a boss fight, rather than a quick time event.
edit: The below point is good, too -- his vision form is certainly larger and hints at a more menacing, dragon form.

Kill something at level 5.
Get on an 80 and kill that same thing, in the same place.
The XP reward is different.
Doing 100% map completion at level 80 is not going to mirror the xp-required-to-level graph.
Your main point likely still has merit, but the reasoning needs work and more accurate numbers (i.e. power-leveled 80 doing 100% map completion at 80 and not before).
Hello All, I just start to do the "Heart of Thorns" expansion. I did the first two missions "Prologue" Rally to Maguuma" and "Torn from the Sky" When I was done with them, I ported out of the story and went to Silverwastes. Now, I am trying to do "Establishing a Foothold" but I cannot get to the Tangled Labyrinth because I do no have it unlocked on my map. Any advice on how to get over there or is it a bug? Thanks. I attached a photo to show where it wants me to go in the story and where I don’t have "tangled labyrinth" unlocked.
"Establishing a Foothold" takes place in Verdant Brink. If your marker is pointing you down into the Tangled Lab in Silverwastes, ignore it and head back into VB. There are NPCs you need to talk to there to progress, after you unlock the initial gliding mastery.
Edit: If you aren’t sure how to get back into VB from Silverwastes, head into the cave next to the northwest side of Amber Sandfall.

what?
Don’t bail -- it may not be the best story, but it’s worth going through, at least once if not on each character (there are several forks to take a slightly different ride).
Perhaps you should hold off on it until you get a higher level and/or better gear. Or get a friend to go in with you! I’d be happy to help (NA servers here).
However, if the story isn’t a priority for you, it’s not going anywhere if you choose to ignore it.
I recall a good amount of threads bemoaning Teq when that fight was updated, even mentioning that it might be a guild-only thing in order to get the organization needed, and now it’s difficult to fail it even with rapid organization in an overflow.
HoT hasn’t even been out for a month. It’ll normalize.
Based on the icon, I had thought they were superior runes of the earth. But those are in the TP on their own just fine.
Perhaps it’s the elusive superior rune of the revenant, with the wrong icon and bugged out.
This was one of the things I found when spending probably far too much time just wandering the city. I forgot what my quest was, what the meta was, just explored. And then a water slide!
At work, we have monitors that will do that for apparently no reason, and powering the monitor off for ~10 seconds and turning it back on is all it takes.
I couldn’t tell if that was something you’ve tried or not -- might be you have already!
Like a dum-dum, I explored the mountain without trying to read the pages, using them just as an indicator that I was on the right track.
I later realized I was supposed to be interacting with them. But, as you all know, I cannot -- nor can I find the smith’s body to begin that achievement.
I was be able to do both with the original character which I did the story for the 1st time. Not with alts.
I thought this was interesting, however, so I replayed it on the character I first used to complete the story. This, in fact, worked.
Perhaps that can help the devs -- the first character to go through the story is unaffected by whatever the bug is, but other characters on the account cannot touch the journal page or find the body.
Every door but the Lich’s is soloable, so I’d wager folks opening doors in other locations are just doing their thing, farming ToT bags, rather than any kind of malicious messing with others in there.
As to opening two next to one another, that’s not so bad, unless you’re fighting the Viscount, and it’s still manageable with a group. I’d chalk that up to naivety first, then f’in with the zerg second :P
I never understand why threads like this usually include more than one post along the lines of "lol zerkers" or whatever. I still run with that style gear and haven’t found the new content a bear. Are there that many people who don’t do much beyond run and press 1?
I’m all for hearing more. I’ve been feeling Mordy doesn’t say enough to my sylvari.
Honest question here -- we all get tomes just for logging in, let alone other potential sources. How do you have none in three years?
As for the topic: I agree that it’s pretty weak visually, but it does knock anything around you away. No other level up does that, as far as I am aware.
That’s it, thank you. Dante you are great.
ANet… No but seriously, you do have to keep it equipped, really? So As I develop my toon I also have to cripple it by loosing a full specialization just to equip the new weapon?
The weapon use is part of the specialization trait line, not an unlock for training it.
When you say, "maxed out", you mean unlocked via training AND equipped in your specialization screen? If not, that would be why -- make sure it’s equipped.
If you’ve done that obvious step, apologies -- just covering bases.
Wear the wings and talk to a scout in Verdant Brink. You should then get the option to turn it into a glider skin, no charge. This was available before these items were re-released within glider packs in the store.
edit: beaten :o
But in any case enjoy your wing-glider!
hmm those wings would look nice with properly dyed carapace armor skins
Not sure I’ve done it "properly", but since I’ve been using carapace armor for a while on my mesmer, I gave it a go. I like it, but it may be gaudy.
I might stop using the Exemplar outfit for a bit now, despite how much I like that look.
Taking away ricochet only to buff the damage doesn’t help the fact that it’s still relying on basically one skill.
I would have thought I’d have rolled off a cliff during a fight by now, but in three years I’ve been OK, even with thief shortbow and burning retreat. I shadowstepped off cliffs in WoW a few times.
I’ve also definitely wandered a borderlands map only to encounter a large blob of red named foes who happily slaughtered me.
You wonder why your character is doing all sorts of crazy things and not responding to your commands when you realize your hand is mis-placed to the left or right by one key.
hahaha
I’ve done this more than I’d have thought I would. I’ll take a drink or something, return my hand, and start strafing and casting a spell instead of moving where I want to go.
"Do you even lift, mouse? Oorah."
Don’t worry about which build to run for the best damage while leveling. Try out various weapons and make sure whichever you use is fun for you. Leveling will happen regardless of if you’re building towards an endgame spec or not, and you’ll end up unlocking all your skills and traits anyway.
Thank you. I will definitely check those.
So how could you explain that I have only 49% world map coverage? I followed all personal stories until the last…
As others pointed out, you won’t see the whole world just by doing the story. Hover your mouse over the map zone names (when in map view), and you’ll see how much of a zone you have completed (e.g. the PoI, vistas, hero challenges, hearts). For map zones you haven’t been to, you should still see their level range numbers and can hover over that to see the same information. A summary of these items for the whole world is at the upper-left of the map screen — completing each map by visiting/competing all of these items within a zone will increase your overall world percentage completion.
About, what, a year ago they updated world exploration to NOT require the WvW maps, so you don’t even have to visit those (though they still have PoI, waypoints, vistas, and challenges). Also the new zones introduced as content has been released — Southsun, SW, Dry Top) don’t contribute to world completion but do have their own places to visit.
LS Season 2 would be worth picking up, imo, if you care at all about the story. HoT will draw heavily from the events that happened in Seasons 1 and 2, and if you enjoy that part of the game then you likely would enjoy playing through Season 2’s content. Additionally, it will pit you against forces of Mordremoth, which in combination with the Silverwastes may help give you an idea of what kinds of things you may face in HoT.
As for gear and specs, play around with the new talent specialization system, keeping in mind that one of the three you pick now would be replaced by Druid to use its abilities.
Interesting.
Back when I set this up for myself, I just pointed Steam at Gw2.exe, no need for any launch options or any need to bypass the launcher. The overlay’s never not worked for me.
Any thoughts as to why it wouldn’t for some?
Yeah -- give your UX team some love, ANet, and explore these kinds of interactions more whenever you can!
Whatever you map it to will be for ally names (players, NPCs), if they are not already set to be visible automatically.
There is a separate entry for objects and enemies (left ctrl by default), again with enemy names likely already always visible as the default for most players.
----
I don’t know if it warrants a separate thread, but unfortunately viewing your own name doesn’t show the star for map completion.
Interesting that you folks haven’t noticed alt’s other use since launch — alt has always been the key for viewing player and NPC names. Most players probably don’t notice, though, and have them set to always show. This is how it was in GW1, as well. (just as ctrl is for objects)
they probably haven’t noticed because they might have it set to automatically be on all the time
Yeah, I said that.
If you need it for skills, why not remap the "show ally’ to some other key?
Oh, kitten , I didn’t scroll down and catch that. My fault! I could have pointed that out in my previous post.
Yes, just remap the “Show Ally Names” entry under Miscellaneous. There you go, your attacks will stop calling up your name.
I figured the end of LS revealed that she was succumbing to its influence but was still herself, as insane as she’d become. The guard seem to have given themselves fully to the dragon. Perhaps she was also given some leeway to complete her objective, some independence despite ultimately still serving its will (similar to some of Zhaitain’s lieutenants, like the ones encountered in the novels).
