Remove the thief class from the game

Why? I have a great time batting around thieves with my guardian!

Personally, I think I’d do a serious overview of the first six months and not add anymore new content until all the long-standing bugs were fixed; stuff that cripples events and makes the game chug.

The next thing I would do is completely rework how Legendary weapons are attained, because there’s absolutely nothing heroic about farming materials and flushing them down the Mystic Toilet and hoping something purple gets spat out. None. This is easily the most worthless part of a game I love.

I would make it to where gaining a Legendary weapon meant you had to do a ‘Personal Side Quest’ much like the personal story. These would be difficult missions but ones that you could do solo, or with friends, but still take a long time to complete. Legendary weapons also would not be sold on the Black Lion Trading Company.

Providing that was all sorted out, probably look at adding more lore-based content. Stuff that people who played GW1 can say, ‘Hey I remember that!’ in such a way that new people to Tyria aren’t left scratching their heads. Another poster said something about the Crystal Desert. I’d want to open that up and look at the Ring of Fire too and what’s changed there.

As much as I want to lop off Jormag’s and Primordius’s heads, I don’t think that should be brought to the forefront just yet. There’s a lot of great stories to tell in Tyria. This lull would be a perfect time to tell them.

I haven’t been so much boycotting ascended gear but waiting for this patch, that’ll make it easier to get groups for Fractials. I also recently changed the character I ‘consider a main’ so, there’s catching up my guardian to the fractal level my elementalist was at too. I’ll do ascended gear as it becomes more relevant to my gameplay.

My question is where did i agree that anet can ban me from the game for their mistakes when i purchased the game ? An exploit is usually considered something hard to find and not something obvious to everyone. This is crafting so excuse me if i don’t consider this an exploit. Btw nice job ruining the holly-days for everyone that got banned.

By this logic, it could be said that anybody who’s ever had their house broken into is at fault for accidently leaving a window open. ANet left a window open. It happens. Even the best of bug-squashing teams will miss something. The correct reaction would have been ‘Hey I better report this…’ rather than ‘Hey how can I make stupid amounts of gold from this?’ IMO

Fractals bring out the absolute worst in people. I’m one of those strange people that usually likes grouping with strangers. I’m an average player. I pay attention when instructions are given and I don’t complain unless there’s exploiting involved. I prefer to simply play the game as intended. Out of hundreds of dungeon runs, I was kicked once by a guy who didn’t know how to communicate and spent more time putting a target icon over people’s heads, than doing anything remotely useful. I didn’t feel bad about that.

My point is, report these folks if you feel its necessary but understand that some people aren’t going to work together well. It’s best to just slog through these groups and leave at the first gracefully convenient moment. In my experience, it’s been pretty easy to tell the groups that’ll be good and the ones that’ll be bad, quickly.

tasaunders.3746

Personally, I could take or leave an ‘Inspect’ feature. I didn’t inspect people often in WoW, because I didn’t actually care what gear people had. You can have the best gear in the game and still fail as a player. I’m more concerned with people being polite, friendly and understand what Dodge does or why standing in the little red circle is bad.

Only Warrs and Guards? Heavy armor thread

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

I have five characters: Warrior, Ranger, Thief, Elementalist, and Mesmer; all around level 50 (I am leveling them up simultaneously).

Bluntly, the warrior is BY FAR the easiest to play; the ranger second easiest.

Why? Simple reason; the mechanics in the game are ANTI- kiting and it is pretty much essential that you are able to kite when you play thief, elementalist, and mesmer (not so much the ranger because certain pets can effectively tank).

The game mechanics, as poorly as they are designed, essentially force lightly armored characters (when not in an organized group) to stand toe-to-toe with opponents… or they reset.

Not ready for prime time…

I leveled my elementalist with Staff (switched later to s/d), but while playing staff, I had no problems whatsoever kiting, aside of the occasional reset. playing an s/d Elementalist changed my play-style a bit to a more ‘dart in, dart out’ style.

My s/d Necro? I can kite six or more mobs with that toon and not break a sweat. Easy to do in Orr. While I wouldn’t argue your assessment on mechanics being not what they should be, I’d have to add to that I don’t think they’re quite as broken as you’ve suggested.

Temporary bans for profanity

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: tasaunders.3746

tasaunders.3746

Personally, profanity doesn’t bother me. Outside of a few words that no human being should ever speak to another, most of the generic ones can barely be considered offensive anymore. As a writer, I will sometimes use profanity if the character I’m writing for has a need to be crass. etc.

That said, I only report for verbal abuse when it’s verbal abuse, not because somebody uses a profane word. As others have said, that’s what the filter is for. Calling me (unmentionable word here) will get a /report from me. Saying Oh &#!%$!! that Champion just knocked my &%@!! out isn’t report-worthy IMO.

No interest whatsoever in a server like this. Played Everquest for a number of years on Rallos Zek, which was like that and it does nothing but bring griefers and campers out in droves. No thanks. The game is fine the way it is. Want FFA, go play WvW.

Coming from Rallos Zek you of anyone should understand it’s appeal , sure maybe it wasn’t for you but you can’t deny that this type of play is what’s missing from today’s modern MMO’s. or the option to play this way.

Yes there will be griefs, yes there will be zerg fest but that’s what people signed up for, the thrill of being in danger from the moment you log on to the time you log off, the feel of living in a world full of threats is the appeal.

At the time, I loved it but I got tired of trying to raid on a server like this. Going after Avatar of War was like pulling teeth when you’re racing other guilds and end up in a 3 hour pvp bloodbath, for example. So, I guess from my perspective the time for that kind of play has been and gone.

You do make a good argument about having just one server like this. I think the reason they don’t do this is because it would fragment the way they have the servers setup. You would have a very small percentage of the total players of GW2 on this FFA server, then everybody else on ‘care bear’ servers. You couldn’t overflow to those servers and you would have people not being able to do anything on those servers, because of the overall lack of people they would attract, IMO.

I think if ANet felt they could attract a large enough player base to support two separate server pools, then perhaps they would make FFA servers, but I honestly don’t believe there’d be that much support for it. For me, I’ve all ready experienced heavy competitive play. I’m older now and I’d like to be able to walk away from my computer and answer the phone or help cook dinner or spend time with my wife-to-be, without worrying about getting lolgank ’n camped.

That would be an interesting thing for ANet to poll its player base on though, just to see how many would be behind something like that.

I’m not far behind you in what I’ve done. I haven’t tried sPvP but I plan to at some point. I do dungeons a lot; some fractals but I mix it up with others.

I guess if you’ve done most of everything, try doing a character on a different story path. Take your time with it. I’ve really enjoyed that. But most importantly, don’t get jaded. If your bored, do something else until more content’s released.

Largely it depend on what you’re going after; burst or sustained damage. I run a S/D plague-bomber necro that has high AE sustained damage. This character works fairly well in dungeons and is literally unstoppable solo PvE. I haven’t tried this build I use in PvP so no ideas there.

ANet has been pretty good in my opinion in addressing the problems the game has and has been utterly fair about compensating the players when it’s been needed. The awards GW2 has received as of late tell the story clearly enough that this game isn’t dying anytime soon, despite the caterwauls of the vocal minority.

The art alone makes me wish I could be on a story writing team for this game just to tell a story based on some of the scenes I’ve stumbled across.

Ironically, the guy who formed the group left, which kicked us all out of the dungeon, before we could decide on a plan of action, leaving me with the two exploiters and one other guy. It was a pretty civil discussion as well. Just wouldn’t have joined the group at all, had I known that was the way people were going to play. Rather than reforming the group, I simply…you know, chose to leave.

I don’t feel at any loss whatsoever.

I think it’s childish and chickish to report PUG party members for wanting to do it the fast way. Pre-launch, there were developer comments that pve exploits weren’t something they were concerned about when the content doesn’t get you anything special.

Report the bug/exploit and move along. Play with compatible people in the future.

An exploit isn’t doing something the ‘fast’ way. It’s cheating. I was in beta and I never remember the developers ever saying anything about not being concerned about exploits. Were that true, they wouldn’t want us reporting them and they’d just leave them in the game.

See, to me the ‘fast’ way is going through the content quickly. Skipping mobs, carefully moving through areas. I’m fine with that. Exploiting isn’t do that that. Exploiting is bugging out mobs in various ways, while making yourself unhittable. Getting these exploits to work can take as much time IMO as just doing it the normal way. I don’t see it as it being about speed, but being ‘easy.’

Don’t think it’s childish or ‘chickish’ to report cheaters.

I left a group this evening that felt it fundamentally necessary to exploit a level 4 fractal boss, because two members of the group felt ‘we didn’t have enough DPS’ to kill the boss quickly, despite having me (an exotic geared S/D elementalist) and two thieves. We didn’t kill things in under two minutes.

What’s the flippin’ rush? These bosses aren’t stupidly difficult, who cares if it takes an extra minute or two to kill it the normal way? Exploiting is stupid and removes the challenge (what little there maybe). Sadly, this is becoming more and more common in pickup groups. I’d probably go with the people in my small guild, but…heh, I’m the only 80. Turned a bunch of friends onto the game so while they’re catching up, I go LFG. I honestly don’t mind PuG’s either, at least not in this game, until I run into this nonsense.

New Weapons, Part II: A scythe for a new two-handed melee weapon and claws for a new one handed melee weapon. Because every kid wants to be the Grim Reaper and/or Wolverine.

Guild Capes: Generally speaking, wearing a bulky backpack while wearing the equivalent of a party dress, a bathrobe or bondage gear does not look very good. Capes however, make everybody feel like a super hero (villain). They were awesome in GW1 and if any rumored clipping issues could be resolved, they’d be neat in GW2.

Yeah, about the ‘Russian Roulette’ element in-game when pursuing your Legendary. That has completely deterred me from ever working to get one. The idea that I have to work for hours on end and then even after that still not get the required items from the Mystic Forge is a complete turn-off. It’s just monotonous to grind for items which then will be wasted. As you said, I’d love to participate in something ‘Legendary’ if I’m working for my Legendary weapon. Farming and grinding just is the opposite on the spectrum.

Yeah the farming aspect of it combined with the ‘not so legendary’ feeling of having to farm things at all, rather than earn it through some long series of events that leave you with a sense of accomplishment. It almost seems counter-intuitive to the ideas this game was based on.

It’d be a lovely sight to see if the Dervish made a re-appearance as a playable Profession. It would use the suggested Great Axe for it’s 2h weapon. Then an obvious weapon, the Scythe would be used by the Necromancer too maybe. I could see lots of wonderful weapon designs for a scythe.. something equally as awesome as the Dhuum’s Soulreaper from GW1 would be amazing.

How about Claws as a new weapon type. They’d be so so cool. Imagine running about slicing things up with your claws!! Oh my, it would be great. They’d be used by the Dervish, Thief, Mesmer and any other new profession that would fit. They’d also come in pairs.

I’ll add these two to the list. Scythe should really be its own weapon, IMO. Claws would be very cool.

Another profession I’d like to see is a support class. A Bard perhaps. I have noticed that a few Dredge skills seem to have music notes as their animation and that is what gave me the idea. The Bard’s mysterious effects their songs have on enemies and allies alike would be a great help in Dungeons and other elements in-game.

I’m not really sure if a Dervish class would fit in GW2 (even though I loved playing mine in GW1) and I definitely don’t want to see a bard class. What would be neat? Give us back the Ritualist. Fits in the Guild Wars universe and would make a great support class.

Why I don't play a game I loved

GW2, is by far the best mmo since Everquest? ????I disagree.

While I love the game it lacks progression in a profound manner, this is ok for people who dont play alot but for some who like the hard challenge some games offer this game doesnt hold up. It has the BEST leveling experience I have ever found!!!! But at max level the games is either FALLS HARD the dungeons are very bad, and all that is left is grind or do map complete for pve player.

Although WoW has its pitfalls it is the KING OF MMO, bar none. You can flame n disagree but player base doesnt lie.

You could train millions of chimpanzees to fart in unison but that doesn’t make it pleasant to experience. WoW wasn’t a bad game, but I wouldn’t call it the King of MMO’s. That title really does belong to Everquest and it has nothing to do with the user base. It has a lot more to do with being ground-breaking and doing things nobody’s really done. EQ made the MMO popular. WoW merely capitalized on that popularity, by taking the package and making it easier to play, prettier and less group-intensive.

So, I would have to agree based on what I believe to make an MMO ‘great’ that Guild Wars 2 is the best thing since EQ. Guild Wars 2 takes convention and in a lot of cases, turns it up on its end and gives us a new way to play the game. This really isn’t a WoW flame either. It was a good game, great even at one point. But there’s really nothing ground-breaking about it.

As for the OP’s decision, well that’s sad to hear, but I find it ironic that he would evoke Everquest. Because, let’s face it, EQ for all its ground-breaking stuff, you couldn’t take a pee behind a tree without a group. Soloing in that game was nearly non-existent unless you had either the very best gear for your class, or played certain classes that could solo.

As somebody who prefers soloing, most of the time grouping isn’t bad in GW2. You get the occasional groups that just die no matter what happens, or are run by elitist pricks, but I would still say you should step outside your box and try grouping. The worst that happens is you’re out a few silver for repairs and you’ve added some jerks to the block list.

Most of these folks are pretty OK if you give them half a chance.

The Side Story: This would be an excellent way to keep interest in the game, for those of us who crave the ‘mission’ element of GW2. By expounding on the personal story, which could be triggered by NPC’s in random parts of the world, a player could get sent on a series of missions, that could lead to anything to a small reward, like karma and skill points, to a more epic adventure that leads to the eventual acquisition of a Legendary item. The latter of which particularly appeals to me, because I find nothing legendary or heroic about farming for matts and playing Russian Roulette with the Mystic Forge. I want to defeat evil and do great things to achieve my legendary item.

New Tradeskill: Tinkering: This would be the single greatest tradeskill ever, where we could make anything from bombs, to traps to mini-pets. Not a big fan of tradeskills, but this would be one I’d do with zeal.

New Weapons: I personally feel, especially with the Norn in the game, we need a Great Axe. I also think that the spear should be a weapon some classes can use above water as well as below. I would also enjoy seeing perhaps a crossbow added, seeing it was the evolutionary step between the longbow and the rifle. Seems odd that there isn’t one in game.

Fluff Items

Name Changing: With the advent of makeover kits, being able to change your name now also becomes kind of important. If David the Destroyer, Human male Warrior suddenly becomes female…well, you can see where I’m going there.

More Stacking Things: I have a full basket of apples to my left and a full basket to my right. Tybalt comes along and eats five apples out of the basket to the right. Before I chase him off, he eats six out of the one to the left. So, I should be able to pour the right basket into the left basket and still have at least one full basket, right? For stuff like salvage kits, gathering tools, etc. I think we should be able to stack them up to 250.

Title: Pact Commander: Okay. You’ve saved Tyria from the dragon. For having to put up with being second fiddle to Trehearne the Not-So-Charismatic and countless hordes of Risen, I kind of think we should get to wear the title we’ve been given. Similarly, I think the same could be said for titles we receive earlier in our personal stories, like ‘Advocate to the Queen’ or ‘Hero of Shaemor’ or whatever.

Town Clothes We Can Make, or Hunt For: What’s the point of having tradeskills like tailoring and leather-working if we can’t make normal shirts, pants and bondage gear for our character’s every day lives? Further, I’d like to point out that hobos beat each other up for clothes all the time. We should be able to hunt certain NPC’s for that especially groovy hat, or interesting shirt.

That’s all I can think of for now. May add more later, if this gets a following.

Been thinking about this for awhile and I think I’ve come up with a list of good suggestions that the developers could implement. Some of these I’ve seen elsewhere and some of them popped into my head.

Game Strengthening Suggestions

LFG Browser: Note, this is not a request for a traditional LFG Tool that coldly drops you into a group with people you’ve never talked to. I feel a browser approach, that works a lot like the BLTC interface would be great. People go /LFG and they get an option to state what they’re LFG for and this list could be accessed anywhere in the game world. This would also require a ‘Group Looking for More’ functionality, where those LFG can get in contact with a group leader and get an invite. Invites should not be automatic. Being relegated to hanging out in LA while LFG when the devs have crafted such a beautiful world to wander seems almost a shame.

Guild System Revamp: IMO some mistakes were made with the original guild system. I don’t really think those can be fixed now, without causing all sorts of chaos, but what I think should be added are some elements to make guilds more social. A switchable notice about who’s logging in or out (providing they’re not invisible) and notices of achievement (again, providing the player in question isn’t set to invisible). More room to type stuff for the guild MOTD and a guild calendar would also go far.

Adding Alliances: This is an absolutely necessary thing IMO and with alliances, adding an alliance chat so people in different guilds can chat across to each other without switching the ‘Represent’ tag.

Guild vs Guild: Not a personal suggestion of mine, but one I would love to see instituted for all my fellow players who love PvP. This also would help strengthen having a reason to join a guild and maintain a strong bond with that guild.

Better Benefits for Being in a Guild: The bonuses are nice. They are, but there should be perhaps a trickle-down Karma gain for people who join a guild, stay in their guild and participate with their guild. Something like 400 karma per week, for maintaining a ‘Represent’ for a particular guild. That’s just an example, I think there could be a lot more for this one, I just haven’t thought of them.

Dynamic Events That Really Mean Doom if you Screw Them Up: I think of the dragon events specifically, which to me seem almost impossible to lose and if something happens that your group wipes? So what? Nothing really happens. People just continue to do whatever. There needs to be more consequences to failing to stop something terrible like a dragon, besides ‘ohnos, no lootz!’ More enemies in an area, zone-wide penalties until the dragon is slain, etc. Conversely, you could have zone-wide boons, like bonus to health or magic find for killing a dragon for a certain amount of time. This could be applied to the Orr temples as well which I consider to be largely lacking of any real consequence other than ‘ohnos, no lootz!’

Fractal Adjustment: Level progression through Fractals is fine; the fact that the current level progression excludes players and makes it nearly impossible for people to get a group for their specific level of fractal, isn’t fine. I would suggest a feature like the one all ready available in older dungeons, where just one person needs to have the desired level Fractal to start it and everybody else can enter, regardless of level. This would go far to quell a lot of upset people and fix some recent fracturing of guild continuity.

PvP Observation Mode: This was something that was in GW1 and I loved. I don’t much enjoy playing PvP, but I love watching good competitive matches. It can also serve as a learning tool for people learning how to play on sPvP teams, so you can see strategies, etc.

Favorite Party Composition

I don’t know if I’d call it my favorite sort of group, but I did AC (all paths) with myself (as a S/D necro), a thief and three rangers, all using longbows. I’m pretty sure I was the defacto tank in that group, because everything would chase me or the thief around while the rangers barraged things to death.

Think my favorite group setup has been me as my elementalist, a mesmer, a guardian and two warriors. I was able to pretty much blast at will and get out of harm’s way before either somebody in plate or a clone picked up what was hitting me.

Karka reward chest unfair

And so it begins…

When I read this, all I could hear in my head was, “IT BEGINS.” And after I laughed quietly to myself, I realized that it pretty much has.

The chests were fair. I was one of those people who got disconnected at the tail end of the final event and didn’t get to loot the chest. I’m both pleased and grateful ANet owned the problem and did something to resolve it. the RNG isn’t always going to be super accommodating to people, so you might not get something you can use. That’s why the trading post exists, so you can sell the stuff and buy something you can use.

As for me, I got one precursor I could actually use, one I’m banking for another character and some rares to sell, along with the accessory and the 20 slot box. Even if I got things I couldn’t use, I would have either sold or salvaged them. I think it’s more important that ANet kept their word, rather than the specific worth of what came out of the chest.

Soloed the complete personal story twice now. Once with my elementalist, as a member of the Order of Whispers and my necromancer doing the Vigil path. Finding Arah groups wasn’t tough and while there were some challenging points, I was able to do most of the missions below the recommended level.

The elementalist is my first character so that one wasn’t geared in the best way either, but I did it. Some parts are going to be just tough and that’s a good thing, IMO.

Guild Wars 2 - Nice Community?

I made a post along these lines earlier this week. People seem to forget that we’re all trying to get to the same place and do the same things. Berating your team members solves exactly nothing and makes them more inclined to screw up because they’re now nervous, or just want to do something out of spite to the person who berated them.

My suggestion is to hold these people accountable. Report them if you wish, but moreover tell them directly, “I don’t need to be yelled at. If you explain yourself without frothing at the mouth like Cujo, I’ll get it.” Also try to be the one explains content, etc. to people who that might not know or understand it. Set the example, people will follow it. Even in small amounts, it does something to make the community better. You won’t change everybody, but a few make a difference.

Guild Wars 2 presently benefits from a pretty large player base. Don’t give up in PuG’s. Some of them can go bad, yes but I’ve had a few that were very much worth the experience. There’s a lot of people just like you who just want to play and aren’t going to level/gear/kitten check you to do so.

EDIT: Because kitten checks are the most important ones.

I remember a couple of days ago I had finally rallied some people to take Grenth’s temple and started to explain the mechanics of the priest battle. I was shot down after my first paragraph by some kittenaying “No kitten, sherlock.” Not everyone knew the information I was trying to give, and I was just trying to be helpful. When you’re doing dynamic events, group events, dungeons, whatever, leave your ego at the door. Everyone is pushing towards a common goal and it helps if everyone is on the same page. Even if everyone knows what to do, it’s still good to state it so that if the off chance that one person doesn’t know, they will be properly informed. That’s what communication is, learn it, love it, it’s what humanity is all about.

Edit: I going to leave the Kittenaying filter there. It’s too good to take out.

Had this exact same thing happen to me. I just ignored them and kept right on it. I had more than a few people thank me about explaining the thing about the Shades. You’d be surprised how many people don’t know to go into the dark spots to get Shadow-Form to fight them. Won the temple that afternoon too.

Especially with the new FotM dungeons, people need to really learn to communicate and if they know something the rest of the group doesn’t, explain it without being a jerk about it. They’re just too new for anybody to be acting like a know-it-all.

unsure exactly how this applies to someone like me,

i dont group, dungeon, pvp or wvw.

threads like this just seem patronising.

please understand that sweeping generalisms are exactly that.

but perhaps if more people were like me, we wouldnt need threads like this to exist.

so in principle i agree, although the premise is faulty.

This isn’t a sweeping generalization. It’s a statement and a request. If it doesn’t apply to you then you shouldn’t care about it. Enjoy the game the way you enjoy it. This is for people who do group and who do dynamic events and do WvW.

Kudos, this needed to be said and I m glad you took the time to do it. My family plays and my mother is 65yrs old she may take a little longer to grasp the consept of some things but she does want to learn and she has taught me things along the way. She wont touch a dungeon group simply due to apprehension of how she might be taken. I can tell you my bf is very skilled, skilled enought to carry me who hasnt looked at gear since I left wow, my nephew and my mother thru a dungeon but he wont touch a group simply from seeing how others treat people in them. So not only are you getting rid of who you would call noobs but some really great players that would benefit your groups when you display bad attitudes.

That’s so cool that your mother plays. Showed my father this game a few weekends ago when he came over to my house to visit. We talk technology a lot and I wanted to show him ‘where games have gone.’ He’s not really a gamer, but he was impressed by the looks of this one.

It’s very true we don’t know who we’re talking to on the other end of a game. Having just a little more patience to explain things, when it’s not clear and keeping everybody at ease is a good thing. No world will end if you don’t get all your Fractals of the Mists in a timely manner, or if you don’t happen to kill all the Shades on time.

Thats life, we love to hate each other and it’s not going to change anytime soon.

Except, this isn’t life. This is a game. This is a game that I have to depend on you to get somewhere and you have to depend on me to go to the same place. In life, you can pretty much make it on you’re own. You can do your own taxes, cook your own meals and even start your own business if you want to be your own boss. But in this game, we need each other.

It might not get any better, I’ll give you that but I feel better with my conscious for having written this and put it out there.
