rest in peace sweet prince
I believe his statement is quite open to interpretation, and really the only way to have an accurate analysis is video documentation.
For example. I’ve seen alphard put up bonewall, group wipes, bone wall still up, can’t fight Alphard, run all around, bone wall still up, etc. Only way I know to fix it is to get some trash mobs to kill you again. I’m sure you can also get something similar via mechanics.
I think there are a few other armors that do this Tex, or at least, a few outfits. In particular, the sentinel’s outfit is overly shinny and doesn’t dye well (contrast with Balthazar outfit which dyes well). However, the sentinel’s outfit does have fire effects which you can dye.
Yeah those all sound familiar. I think I experienced or at least heard of all of them as long ago as pre-hot. Dungeons were always and will forever be it seems, an embarrassment. Anet is a LOT better than they were back then to say the least. Its unfortunate.
I know arah p2 has belka not enter combat.
What are the bugs for p1,3, and 4?
@Pax I don’t really want to look like a dyed egg color. I want rich dark colors. If you want that faded look, there should be dyes for that. Overall, the overly shiny texture takes away our customization options.
That’s nice of you guys, thanks. While we have your attention, could you possibly look at bugs on kc, cairn, and Samarog. Of those 3, I think there is wide consensus that kc is the most broken.
lol by wiping the whole party with plaque lands, do you mean he got sacrificed after placing it down?
tbh I’d rather they focused efforts on making new fractals.
That’s not a coincidence at all … especially if you understand that ‘being meta’ isn’t Anet’s motivation to buff a class. Somehow that logic escapes you completely.
Your saying that Anet doesn’t buff a class based on whether or not it is meta correct? That Anet doesn’t consider the meta when balancing? So then how is it not a giant coincidence that ele and warrior always seem to make their way into the meta? Please explain your argument, because I don’t understand.
It seems clear as day to me that Anet must be choosing to hinder necro and buff ele.
I see, so its reasonable to expect anet to be able to buff necro, its just a complete coincidence that in 5 years, it has never made necro meta.
You claim, Anet balances without any consideration for the meta. Well that sure is one heck of a coincidence that ele always gets buffed to the top, warrior as well, and necro down below. All without any thought or plan according to you.
Its not reasonable to expect that anet is able to buff necro? I guess that means they are incompetent.
Obtena I think you have an incorrect grasp of my position. I do get teams. I full clear weekly with my static, and I pug more kills each week for fun. I don’t play necro, but I do see how they are treated. That’s why I am here arguing that Anet should stop showing such blatant favoritism.
Do you believe it is harder for a necro to join raid groups? Do you believe it should be harder for a necro to join raid groups?
Good for you OP, I recently did a cm 100 where a thief was trashing the necros. All the necros out dpsed the thief. People are ignorant, and need to run dps meters so they can accurately kitten situations.
edit: kitten is apparently a dirty word for evaluate.
(edited by thrag.9740)
Sublimatio I agree with your overall statement. However, I am talking specifically about pugs. Pugs often don’t bring a chrono or a druid or either to cm 100. Often pug groups for cm 100 turn into 5 dps slots, no warrior, no druid, no chrono, and no cc. In these situations, I feel no shame bringing the safety build.
Flesh golem cc is just too darn good in a pug group. Remember lack of cc can easily wipe boss 2.
Transfusion saves a lot of people who go down in aoes on first and final boss.
Parasitic contagion….well usually not necessary especially if you have the bit of sustain from blood magic. Transfusion shines when your putting yourself into high risk trying to res people. Idk maybe this is just a problem I experience, but it seems like I can never break out of res animation to dodge things.
If I have a druid/chrono that I trust, then yeah id say go for full dps (actually what I personally do is swap to my condi ps or one of my preferred dps builds like power engi). But the fact is, the amount of time difference due to the safety necro build vs full dps necro is less than the time of a wipe. And a lot of pugs wipe.
edit: YOU don’t need those things to carry cm 100. I do lol.
(edited by thrag.9740)
It is definitely not fixed. I reskinned the armor, so I won’t be able to check on it any further. Reskinned legendary armor looks cool
i successfully raid on necro but im THAT awesome at playing my necro.
anyway, most people who are excluded for being necro aren’t because of balance (deathly chill buff really balanced our dps to be good). if you are being rejected it’s because of necro stigma and player mentality. a lot of trash level players run necro in fractals and people are afraid of getting these people in their squad. i myself often witness necro pugs with death magic/blood magic or(and) warhorn. rise, parasitic contagion, flesh golem 24/7. my eyes literally burn and i judge these people harshly. while i dont agree with kicking on sight, i kinda understand this but i wish people would just resort to gearcheck and traitcheck.
I want to throw my support behind blood magic + parasitic contagion + flesh golem. It is basically a fool proof way to carry pugs through cm 100 lol. Although for raiding….yeah its bad. Idk why they are bringing rise.
@narcx Sorry, forgot you mentioned kc. ohhh i just realized your talking about cleave damage. Of course necro can be top cleave damage, but cleave damage is often irrelevant. Using epi at MO to be top cleave is meaningless. Kill the statues a little slower and the power classes will just gain cleave dps. It won’t change how many spikes you encounter after 25%. Top cleave damage at xera won’t let you do stand still. Cleave at vg is all irrelevant damage. What matters often is single target dps, this is where necro struggles, especially on small hitbox.
@obtena I am not saying only the top dps class is welcomed. I am pointing out that when a class like ele is nerfed out of the meta, they are immediately buffed back to being amazing. Meanwhile necro can be bottom tier for half a year, and all we get is incrementalism. Where are the fast drastic changes to necro?
@obtena I resolve it because I’m not foolish enough to believe a single person playing necro in raids is proof that there is good balance. Also, I don’t really play necro, I play ps predominantly, and then chrono if we need it. But I’m also not blind, I see how necro is treated in groups. Pre-hot I use to trash people who would kick necro, but I realized something. Who has the power? Anet does. That’s why I always try to redirect peoples frustrations back at Anet. Anet loves it when players fight each other, and distract from their own failures. If the entire community ever unified its voice, and complained about balance, we could actually get something to change.
Otherwise, I guess keep enjoying your condi necro, and be thankful your not a rev. Or a necro who wants to play power. Or a mesmer who wants to play power dps. Or a guardian who wants to play condi. Or a ranger who wants to play power. As long as your one specific class is good, I guess that means balance is good.
I don’t think they consider it broken, they had 2 years for this afterall.
Here I am doing a daily.
http://imgur.com/a/K7rnf
The armor does not look crimson at all. This is very disappointing.
meh, I knew what you meant. Although I will say, the ability to die sentinels outfit has the same problem. Really shiny metal that you can’t really dye.
It looks a lot better at night
http://imgur.com/a/WAxvS
zealex your not wrong…
here is a picture in game, dye is enameled crimson, Pretty white.
http://imgur.com/a/SDzS3
Don’t judge my lack of dyes lol.
http://imgur.com/a/fL6Yv
Overwhelmingly the main color is white no matter what. Here is a comparison in the top image I used enameled crimson on every panel, and for the second image I used indigo. You can change a tint but you certainly can’t give it a rich coloring.
Idk, I kinda want my colors to match my crimson weapons
@narcx Idk what your talking about, I have 350+ li, full clear weekly with my static and get many more kills each week for fun. I have literally at least one of every class full ascended and raid ready, and most of the characters have 2 or 3 builds ready to go. I don’t know where your getting this , ’ You’re not being kicked for playing necro or rev’ from, I guess some misguided assumption that anyone who complains about balance is an inexperienced player.
But I also know the caliber of dps ability my static expects, and I know necro can’t deliver on certain fights. I don’t care about being able to bring a necro in for meme runs at gorseval. Finding your icefield sounds great until your doing a small hitbox boss like MO and literally no area is available. Epi – cleaving? Let me know how that goes at Matthias. Also let me know how necro works out at kc. Actually, anything that isn’t the beloved ele.
@Obtena No, balance issues are Anet’s problem. I’m tired of people apologizing for Anet. Your trying to blame players for the fact that necro has never once been buffed into a top tier dps slot. That’s Anet’s decision, and it’s their fault. People defending that decision allows it to perpetuate.
I think it would be really cool if anet let us dye heavy legendary armor. Shiny white armor is nice, but it would be fun if players could customize their look .
There are many times I have considered getting foot pedals lol. But ultimately I play gw2 from my couch and reclining is just too comfortable.
OP something you may not be aware of is that raid bosses have very different levels of difficulty from one another.
For example, vg isn’t the easiest boss imo. imo escort is the easiest raid ‘boss’ and then trio, and then mursaat overseer. You may want to try doing those raids first, as they are a good way to get you the introductory experience (using voice coms, using a rotation, understanding your role in a group, and what a group normally looks like).
Once you have those bosses, gorseval, samarog, and kc are a small step up in difficulty.
imo, vg is in the middle in terms of difficulty, many players think it is one of the easiest, but I believe that is only because it is their most experienced fight.
I think dungeons are rewarding right now. The problem is the community that ran them is gone, many left the game following hot (nerf dungeons, swamp of the mists, and no raids for months). If you have 4 skilled friends, I’m sure daily tours would be decent cash, because you could go fast. Dungeons give a lot of leather for example.
Power creep may have made dps higher, but all other performance is terrible now. Thieves can’t stealth, warriors don’t give swiftness, almost no one uses movement skills. Blinds are really non-existent, etc.
Go run ac (with a low dps group), wait for kholer to spin. Watch how many people go down. Its disappointing.
You might crap on that because the optimized solution doesn’t deliver what you and others want.
Yes that’s how opinions work. I’m not going to say anet is good because somebody else enjoys their game.
That’s just a function of not understanding the reality of the development side, the business restrictions/constraints and probably some unrealistic expectations as well.
No there is no misunderstanding, its that I don’t care what difficulties Anet faces. I care what product they deliver. I judge their product as it is.
Maybe you decided in your head that somehow, Anet is different.
I continue to judge anet for the product they deliver, nothing more and nothing less.
I’m not sure why you would do that. While they have delivered some very different ideas to MMO format, fundamentally, it’s still an MMO with all the same problems the others face that have multi classes. Not as single MMO I’ve played with multi-classes does not have the problem where players want classes to deliver similar performance and completely different concepts. Anet’s solution to that is as optimal as it gets, just like everyone elses, because the constraints are based on business factors that are all similar among the MMO companies, not programming or conceptual ones.
Look at my example with ele. When it comes to ele, anet is willing to make hasty and fast changes. Yes their will always be imbalance, but it doesn’t have to be the same class at the bottom for 5 years. Metas can be adapting and evolving rather than stagnant. All the resources they devoted to fixing ele could have been necro one patch, revenant another patch, circle back around to ele after a few updates.
I think your core grief with Anet is misplaced, because you again assume that Anet is measuring class performance by ‘kicked from raids’ frequency, which goes back to how the class is positioned in the meta. I’m so certain this is not the case because of observing the industry, that I question how sincere people are or what their actual MMO experience is when they refer to it when complaining about balancing.
I don’t care how anet measures anything. That doesn’t affect me. I care whether or not my necro can raid. It can’t.
Yes condi ranger is a ranger who does damage via conditions. You can check out builds at this site:
qtfy.eu
Here is power engi rotation
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5JviVla5F0Q
Here is condition ranger rotation
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C9mIPh3LSeQ
These videos demonstrate the rotations as done by some of the best players around. So they are very fast. You dont have to be this fast to raid, but you do need to be able to press each of the buttons either by buttons on your mouse or by pressing on screen button (which can be slow/difficult).
My, ‘dont care comment’ isn’t really about my own personal feelings. I guess it wasn’t clear, I’m saying your assumption that all MMO developers behave the same is pointless. Anet is their own company, what blizzard or anyone else does is irrelevant to the discussion. You seem to want to think in monoliths, and I’m saying thats a bad way to try to understand things.
Saying the meta is player made is incredibly deceptive. It is the result of class balance. There isn’t some grand conspiracy made by qt to ensure rev is auto kicked from raid groups. There is however incompetency on Anet’s part.
Heres the core of my grief with anet. Rev and necro have been autokicked from raid groups for 8 months now, and they havn’t done anything about it. You seem fine with that, I am not. Its that simple, we don’t agree on that, and clearly never will.
edit: for comparison look at ele. It gets nerfed out of the meta for 1 update, and then anet buffs it back into the sky, so high that they have to nerf it about 8 hours later. If your one of Anet’s golden boy classes you can rest assured that they will always buff you back into the meta, but if your one of their lesser pleb classes, you better charish your 3 months in the sun, because they are going to cut you down and never give it back.

I actually play with the same mouse. One handed play is tough for sure. I play with a very unique set up myself. I play with the g700 in my right hand, and a razor sabertooth xbox controller in my left hand. What works well for me is to use the analog stick in my left hand for movement/dodging and the keys on the underside of the controller as modifiers (shift and control). Using this set up, I bind 5 of the mouse buttons to 1-5, then I bind weapon skills to 1-5, utility to shift+1-5 and class mechanic to ctrl+1-5.
Using modifier keys like that is a good way to get more actions compressed into fewer keys (I also have combos like ctrl+shift+1 for other actions etc).
What is your current ability? Are you able to move your character while casting skills? Can you quickly dodge if need be?
Power engi might not be too bad, you can certainly do a basic rotation, although the full rotation would be difficult.
Condi ranger could work. The problem is condi ranger uses weapon+utility skills + f1. If you bind 2,3,4,5 to you thumb buttons that will cover the weapon skills. As for utility. The 3 buttons near your pointer finger + mouse wheel left and right could cover the 5 utlitiy. Or if it is comfortable, you could bind one of your pointer finger buttons to shift, and use a modifier key set up.
I pick that way because that’s not just Anet, it’s every MMO I’ve ever played. There is no effort to make every class ‘equivalent’ to ensure they are all meta.
Your thief example illustrates what I said perfectly. Condi was buffed on thief, as a consequence, it became meta … do you honestly think Anet sat around a table and decided that condi theif should become meta over necro, etc ,… ? That makes no sense.
Even barring all that … if they are or aren’t attempting to balance to meta, obviously it doesn’t happen, so people using that as a measure of performance are just dreaming.
I’m not really interested in what other mmos do, and I don’t really believe anet is either. Lets judge gw2 on its own merits.
No, I think a few developers who are overworked quickly got together a week or 2 before the balance patch, concluded condi thief was under powered, and buffed it.
I believe they drew this conclusion incorrectly. Every update seems to be based off of data that is 3+ months old. A friend of my recently came up with a reason for this, and I believe it is correct. Anet analyzes data for typical raid groups, and the majority of groups are pugs, and pugs take months to update to the meta that the well known guilds discover quickly.
The trends, such as condi thief being meta, do not show up in raid group statistics until months later because of how long it takes the community as a whole to update.
I believe Anet’s decisions stem from inaccurate information, and I believe they could achieve much better balance if they were willing to work with the speed clear guilds towards this goal. I also believe they are hesitant to involve players in these decisions.
Those people are half right. Guardian in general is weaker than other classes at filling the dps role. As such, groups don’t want guardian as much, and so telling a beginner not to raid with one is a good idea. It will be much easier to join raid groups as a condi ranger.
However, vale guardian has very low toughness, and as such heavily favors power builds (note: not many other bosses like this). What classes can run good power builds? Ele, thief, guardian and engi. On small hitbox, guardian is notably the weakest of these 4. But on large hitbox, guardian is 2nd place.
VG is medium hitbox, so all 4 are probably pretty close would be my guess. So at VG, guardian is perfectly fine. But there are also fights where it is bad, such as sabetha (where condi ranger/ele/thief will obliterate guardian).
Hold on. Right now, cm is inconsistent with the tier system. Who says t5 has to have higher AR or do any of the other stuff? We can trade one inconsistency for another, but at least then we can just have our own lfg for that tier etc.
My point is, why do you assume that Anet working on balance has the goal of making all classes ‘equal’ for play? There is lots of evidence to suggest that’s not the case
The way I see it, we both have valid explanations. You believe Anet is competent but purposefully creates such disparaging imbalance that revs are kicked from raids. I believe Anet is incompetent, but does not purposefully do that. Both seem plausible to me.
How do you pick? Obviously it depends on how convincing the evidence is, which is subjective. For example, I see Anet add might to phantasms and I conclude incompetence. Perhaps you conclude that Anet is purposefully faking incompetence so they can claim they are trying, while simultaneously making sure power dps mesmer is bad.
Meta is simply a consequence of game mechanics; it has nothing to do with how Anet decides to balance classes; that much should be obvious to anyone who is paying any amount of attention. OT be more clear, you speak like meta is a target when really, it’s just the result.
This seems wrong. Condi thief is meta because it hits higher dps than power rev/condi necro/power ele etc. Mechanics play a role, such as ads absorbing your venoms, but highest single target dps is pretty universally going to be meta.
Class balance plays a large role in shaping the meta. Buff ele so that it can hit 100k dps. Guess what happens? Warrior leaves the meta.
One thing I want to contribute. If every fractal gets a challenge mote maybe they should just be called…. tier 5? Seriously what is the point of a scaling difficulty system if you don’t use it when trying to actually introduce more difficulty.
ready checks are typical in pugs for that. There are all sorts of things you can be waiting on, such as swiftness cooldowns, etc.
Just because it’s meme doesn’t make it any less true.
Your right. It is unacceptable that anet continues to be so slow at balancing their game. Especially considering both of these classes were perfectly acceptable a year ago, before anet purposefully nerfed them out of existence.
But which one will do better. A condi PS with poor rotation or a power PS with poor rotation?
Condi ps. The power ps rotation is more skillful imo, so the same player with equal practice on both will do better with condi ps.
There are 3 bosses players may argue are exceptions. VG because low toughness, Sloth because he condi clenses, and KC because you need 20 second burst. But honestly, condi ps brings much better qualitative characteristics for 2/3 of these fights. For vg, condi ps can do green circles and red guardian. For sloth, condi ps can make sure to direct scorched earths inwards and make up for bad mesmer pulls, and thus hit amazing cleave damage.
For kc though, I do hit higher numbers using power ps, although not that much higher now that arc divider was nerfed. Additionally, being able to burst spirits down is very helpful. But honestly, the majority of your dps at kc should just come from 4 staff eles running tempest defense, and if your having trouble phasing, the warrior isn’t the problem unless they are not generating might.
A beginner should look at power ps as a niche build for hardcore players to obtain as they get more into raiding. Condi ps is the default warrior build now.
OP it is hard to help you when you are so vague. Lets start with terminology.
dps: damage per second
There are 4 general roles in raids. DPS, healer, tank, buffer. Although specific bosses may have other specific roles, and some bosses do not have a tank.
What they do:
tank: Whoever has the highest toughness draws the ‘agro’ or attention of the boss. The boss will move to the tank (if the boss is mobile) and so the tank moves the boss around and faces the boss away from 9 other members of group. 99% of the time, the tank is a mesmer (with chrono spec), it is not uncommon for a tank to wear very high toughness gear such as minstrels/nomads, but some people prefer to go more glassy, with 1401 the lowest toughness most tanks will run with in unorganized groups, although speed clear guilds may run as low as 1085 toughness (last I checked). The tank is also responsible for all sorts of utility such as sharing boons, providing defense (through distortion), and group up enemies with pulls.
healer: The healer is responsible for healing the group after they take damage. Typically a ranger (with druid spec) fills this role. Many groups have thier healer bring a lot of healing power with magi/cleric or sometimes minstrels gear. The majority of damage is avoidable however (although not all of it), and so very skilled groups choose to bring more glassy healers such as vipers druid instead. Most groups you join, especially early on, will have magi druids.
dps: Their main objective is to attack the boss, do damage, and ultimately kill it. There are 2 main variants of damage that can be done; Power damage (also called direct damage) and condition (or condi) damage. Some bosses heavily favor one form of damage over the other, and so in order to give yourself more versatility early on, you must be careful which class you gear up for this role first. Typically this role is filled by elementalists, rangers, thieves, and engineers, but groups will also sometimes have necros, guardians, and even occasionally mesmers fill this role.
Warrior is a bit of an odd ball. Pretty much every raid group brings a warrior or two, and that warrior’s main job is to attack the boss like a dps role. However the warrior is brought because in addition to decent dps, the warrior brings several group buffs such as banner of strength. So warrior is a bit of a mix between dps and buffer role.
Buffer: This role buffs the dps classes and allows them to do more damage, by giving them boons. In particular the boon they give is quickness, as this role is pretty much exclusively filled by a mesmer. Usually groups bring 2 mesmers. The first mesmer is the tank (if the boss requires a tank). That mesmer is responsible for both tanking and buffing the group. The second mesmer is responsible buffing the group, but does not have to tank. Particularly skilled mesmers can also manage to do some damage while providing buffs to the group.
So, OP which of these roles do you want to play in a raid?
I recommend power engi. Auto attack + rifle turret tool belt alone will get you to passable numbers. Additionally it brings solid cc, utility like blinds, immob, chill, and can easily double blast a waterfield.
Additionally I recommend power engi over power thief, because the optimal rotation for power thief is quite a bit different from the easy rotation, it involves things like pointing the camera downwards and untargetting the boss. While improving your power engi rotation is just adding in a few extra skills in between your auto attacks.
http://qtfy.eu/build/Engineer/#power_engie
agreed, why not just have skippable cutscenes, we are going backwards from the dungeon days in this regard.
Honestly, if anet ever decided to devote any developer time to dungeons (which they won’t), I’d rather they make new dungeons.
If i am not mistaken, you need HoT to do raids. Would you be willing to pay 50+ euro for few items off boss?
Well hold on, because they answer might be yes. Lets say you run with a static, that’s 10 players. Each week, one of them buys a new account and uses it for that week’s clears, so the whole group gets the bonus. Use the level 80 boost to get a base power engi leveled up (no need for elite spec), buy some exotic gear or karma farm it or w/e, and you have a passable dps class.
Better yet, if all 10 of these players buy them when hot accounts are on sale for $25, they each only need to buy one new account for 10 weeks of bonus rewards. That’s $2.5 a week for each player, and in addition you get log in rewards. Additionally, players like the type I am describing easily shard cap. Another account allows them to get twice as much magnetite per week. You can sell those infusions and mail the money to your main account.
That actually is cheap enough to be abused, if 10 players work together for 10 weeks.
There are pros and cons to that idea. Yes it would incentivize experienced groups to carry one newbie through, but it could also go poorly.
What if everyone in your group has cleared the content, then what? Kick the weakest link, and replace with someone who has never cleared the content.
