Profession you want to see in your PUG?

I cry when the last guy is a ranger or a thief.
I cry when I see the elementalist spamming Fireball and nothing else.
I cry when I realise the necro is condition dmg.
I cry when I see 5 signets icons over the warrior’s head.

Basically I care more about the personnal skill rather than the profession.
You can do plenty of things with Guardian and Mesmer while Warrior will enhance the group’s DPS by themselves and by using For Great Justice! Others professions are a lot less useful to PVE than these 3.

Lower the height at which the shaman flies ; offset the Y-axis so our character will be a bit closer to the bottom edge of the screen ; move the target window or make it less opaque ; display boons/conditions over the shaman rather than under the target window.

What do you think about Guardians?

My group of mates runs at least one Guardian for permanent Protection but they are the perfect profession for PvE to the point where they are imbalanced to others prof.

When I play Guardian there is no situation where I think to myself : I’m screwed / My teammates will have to revive me.

I’d like to see their auto-attacks -and maybe general Cleave- being reduced a bit (Guardians are a great and reliable source of damage) and AoE boons being mitigated for PvE.

The problem I believe is that we rely to much on Guardians and Warriors to succeed.

Myself being a Guardian I can tell that when I do not play correctly, things start to be a lot more difficult (assuming I am the only Guardian of the group). But it has already been told that Guardians/Warriors seem to be much useful in dungeons.

How balancing is studied?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: timecookie.8570

timecookie.8570

It’s a serious question. ATM balancing is very weird to me.

For instance lately we saw Shattered Strength going from 1 might 5sec to 3 mights 10sec and then 1 might 10sec. That means this trait has been improved by a factor of 6 and then nerfed by a factor of 3.

I think you should consider smaller changes and have a small team of experienced players that would or would not approve new balance because huge changes like this are obviously too much.

Also cooldowns are very often multiple of 5. That seems a bit … rough.

“overpowered mobs”

Yeah please get rid of any sort of difficulty of the game. Because ppl are willing to farm so you need to make it easy.

Just try to fight like a man rather than kitting. They are meant to be killed. If you can’t kill them you should think : what’s wrong with my char/team? rather than : these mobs are overpowered.

Not only talking about balancing professions out, sPvP is not really competitive to me. Unless we see a specific format (specific professions with specific build) just as Team Fortress 2, I can’t think of this game going into the competitive scene.

Right now I believe the game mechanics are quite poor for the sPvP to be interesting. Not that I don’t have fun at it but just that it’s a mess.
Maybe that comes from my 4y experience in DotA…

crit damage

in Guardian

Posted by: timecookie.8570

timecookie.8570

There are 3 offensive attributes : Power, Precision and crit dmg.
- Power will always be effective. If you crank your power from 1,500 to 2,000 you will have a “permanent” +33
more dmg than previously.
- Precision will allow you to trigger crit. strikes which bypass the Weakness condition as well as trigger vigor, sigils, …
- When you crit you will deal extra dmg based on your % crit dmg. If you have 0% you will deal 150% of your non-crit dmg. If you have 30% crit dmg you will now deal 180% of your non-crit dmg.

That said
- they are less effective without a good Precision
- each point will increase your global DPS lesser and lesser the more you have.

Now if you are a PvE player, don’t try to maximize them unless you are confiant with your character as it will result in a loss of other attributes. If you are a PvP player it’s quite different as landing a crit is much more important as players don’t have the same HP as PvE bosses, this falls into the “burst” section.

A good value is something higher than 30 (to me, as PvE Guardian but everybody won’t feel the same). Not that any extra point will be wasted but if you have 50, maybe you should try to get some extra power/precision or HP/toughness/healing rather than more %crit dmg.
I feel more useful for my team to succeed by having higher crit chances with Empowering Might (Honor VIII) and boon duration bonus (Rune Water x2 ; Monk x2 ; Pirate x2 ; Virtues 10) rather than just % crit dmg.

As Guanglai Kangyi said, it’s recommended to have those +18% by Jewels. I also recommend to have shoulders/gloves/boots as Berserker. 30 in Valor is quite popular so you won’t have much trouble having a high value as Guardian.

Guardians vs Warriors

in Guardian

Posted by: timecookie.8570

timecookie.8570

Also, anyone else who plays Guardian would know that we are slow as hell and we can’t catch Players who run away from us in PvP and we can’t run away when things get rough.

Like I said I love my Guardian and I hope it doesn’t sound like I’m crying but, I believe we need to be buffed even just a little and I hope there’s someone out there who agrees with me.

Guardians are way more popular in sPvP than Warriors (at least in higher ranked games)

Ppl need to stop comparing Warriors and Guardians. Just because they wear the same class of armor does not mean they have the same role or something. They are just differents professions that’s it.
Heavy is about 290 points of armor more than Light which I believe results in 290 toughness difference. But you know what? Mesmers start with 4,200 more HP than Guardians which is a 420 vitality difference. And TBH I used to be a very very tough Mesmer (much more than I am as a Guardian) in dungeons because of traits and skills rather than just HP/toughness.

Still I agree with the Warriors shouts being effective. Recharge times are just better and Pure of Voice is not 100% reliable. Not to mention that Hold the Line looks a bit useless in PvE (might be OK for PvP).

Hammer, a bit slow aye?

in Guardian

Posted by: timecookie.8570

timecookie.8570

I’m trying it at PvP (basically my first hours as PvP Guardian) and it’s pretty kitten. I use Judge Intervention to connect any skill.
It’s easy as ABC to chain a #2 when your target is immobilized or kb-ed. In fact, it’s easy to connect everything from #2 to #5 … I tried this out with a friend who has NEVER played guardian before (pve/pvp) and we were able to crush any guys as Guardian x2.

My build was 10/0/20/30/10 with bonus dmg to burning foes, meditations recharge faster, hammer apply freeze on crit, bonus dmg with aegis, faster 2H weapons, and whatever you want as the 2 last traits in Honor (aegis heals + retaliation).
Berserker amulet/jewel and Scholar or Lyssa. +5% crit chance on hammer and restore 50% endurance on focus.

Just engage with the Focus #5, Judge Intervention + Hammer #2 and it’s about 12K aoe dmg on no toughness guys. Get 2 Guardians and you can instantly down them.

About PvE I mostly use 1 with 15 in Zeal so whatever…

That would make too many lodestones running out there.

Not a matter of how long it would take to gather your 100 – 250 lodestones but a matter of a rare material. Currently it’s designed so ppl who are discouraged to have 100 of them will sell to ppl that are not discouraged and that is what makes weapons to be rare.

If you give everyone a reliable way to gather this materials, they will save them and few weeks/months later they will all have their not-rare-anymore weapon.

This is why we all do this dungeon, right? That and the fact that you have 2 rare armor to salvage at the end.

Also we don’t skip any silver trash and I don’t find any path too long so I think you’re doing it wrong at some point or just need to have more DPS.

Guild Wars 2 holy trinity

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

timecookie.8570

Here is how the game currently runs.
Support: Heals you barely feel, abilities that barely help you.
Control: Pointless.
Damage: Melee gets one shot, dodging still doesn’t work. Ranged is actually mandatory
Arenanet should just implement healers already, getting one shot isn’t fun, nor is laying on the ground throwing trash at your target then hopelessly dying like a fragile child ripe for slaughter. Dying on your feet is the way to go, fight to survive mechanic is inconvenient. Also do not say “L2play” it’s the bitter truth, the combat in this game is flawed and do not get me wrong I love the hell out of this game, played over 850 hours, savouring the greatness this game has to offer.

Oddly, in PuGs everybody is in a mess, playing mostly ranged weapons (by my experience). It’s hard for me as a Guardian to buff my team up.
Whereas with my usual mates, we all tend to stay at melee range. I mean even ranger/GS mesmer/necro/staff ele.
And guess where fights are the easiest? The answer is when everybody is packed-up and all your team stacks 20-25 times might, 30sec of fury, protection 100% uptime etc.

So I feel sorry for you if you get OS but you probably handle the game wrongly and you should learn the game you play to fully enjoy it.

The only point I agree with is the “control”. Usually you just go DPS until the things die. But I feel quite ok with it because of the annoying 1 sec + casting time on CC spells.

Currently I love GW2 combat system because it’s dynamic and everyone has the same role. But TBH it’s not balanced and that makes the game easy : go with 2 Guardians and 3 Warriors and you’ll spank hard.

Node failure

Wanted to make this post more relevant as I still wait for a fix.

I play rune of the pack which grants 5% chance when hit to buff up yourself and allies.
The thing is when it triggers during a harvest, following mats will be ruined. I experience this quite often.

Repro steps :
- Pull some mobs to the node
- Press your action button (default F)
- Rune triggers
- Enjoy your harvest

I used to play with rune of the citadel, same bug. Dunno which bonus is involved though (#4 or #6).

Addtionally I believe that the Guardian trait : Zeal 5 (Zealot’s Speed) will also ruin your mats the same way.

I get ruined on my mesmer sometimes and I dun use runes there(just some random crests and stuff). So, getting hit by certain skills(or possibly taking a critical hit) definitely has smth to do with it. It’s annoying, but whether it’s a bug or intended…we’d need smb from ANet to tell us…

Maybe the 10 in Dueling which stealthes you.

Get +10% bonus dmg on burning foes, +10% dmg on conditionned foes (Radiance 25), +10% dmg on non-full endurance, +20% dmg under Aegis. And you will see the difference.

About gear, knight trinkets with Ruby Jewels are about the best thing to have if you look after DPS as Guardian.

Traditional 0/0/30/30/10 is very good to get familiar with Guardian (imo). Then, just run dungeons and stuff and you will figure out what you need and what you do not need.

My personal build is 20/0/10/30/10 playing with my mates but I still run AH build when doing PuGs. When in a organized team, get some vulnerability : it’s pretty effective.
If you are being pretty confident, you will trade Valor traits for anything else (basically Zeal/Radiance in dungeons).
If you are playing Greatsword I suggest you to get the -20% recharge time with 2Handed weapons but it’s not necessary with Hammer.

About the attributes you need … I really play with them all but if you are playing AH and Honor VIII : Empowering Might (highly recommended) go for at least 40% crit chance.

The rest is up to you.

The cone is about 270°, i’d say. The problem is that people assume it’s smaller.

That’s the problem. The attack is what it is, and it certainly does not make this boss too difficult.

Most of the time you can simply dodge it, block it, go invul or whatever. In fact if you play it melee you will have no problem going in his back.

270 degrees is no cone man. XD I agree changing the animation to reflect the actual area of effect would be helpful. Don’t have to nerf him.

Agree with the animation, does not fit.

Basically if you have trouble with him you just need to turn on your brain and play differently:
- its different attacks follow a pattern so it’s easily anticipated.
- it has no direct attack…
- it is completely passive while channelling.

I think you are right concerning the fact that is requires more from players than P1 or P2 but that’s it : it’s not too difficult. Everytime I’ve done it, I (we) have had lot of fun and the path provides better fights overall.

I think path 1 requires more challenge while path 2 is ok. But path 3 is definitely the best.

Concerning the torches, yeah it’s difficult but the respawn time is not too short. If I were to give some advices I would say :
Get a Guardian or Mesmer to Fire Imps to reflect or block their dmg.
Explain everyone they have to say rdy to finishing-blow mobs once they are weakened before you all do it.
Before everything : choose someone to chat 321go for torches. He will have to keep an eye on who’s ready or not (chat). Basically the one that is the closest to the exit because he will be able to see the 2 torches with Oozes.

Don’t debate on this profession has this but this one has that : it’s about team and Guardians have traits to enhance your party much more efficiently than others.

Today I decided to get a Sword and Focus and go test it out against the Krakas of all kind -normal and vets- what I discovered blew me away, not only does the sword kill just about as fast, I take less damage -if that was even possible lol

As a GS I’ll admit its faceroll, really takes little skill to play this build due to the OP self healing, but add a Sword+Focus and its the same damage, same healing but much more mitigation!

Right.

I think not. They have lot of protection and regeneration things that will do the job.

To the OP : you should have 916 (base toughness) + 1211 (defense from your armorpieces) = 2127 armor at level 80. Now it’s for you to decide if you want to have more armor (1 toughness grants 1 armor) or not.

Damage is DIVIDED by armor, which means having 50% more armor will make you reduce incoming damage by 33% more. This is why Signet of Judgment is a huge boost is survivability as it virtually grants you about 11% of your current armor which is a bit unfair to other signet attribute boosts.

The biggest problem is that you’re in Zeal. Which is the worst trait-line imaginable.

If you want to quickly kill things, try putting points in Radiance and Valor and focus on crit-chance and crit-damage. Going in Valor will automatically increase your survivability, but if that proves insufficient, consider switch to the Focus (or Shield) as off-hand.

Hey! that’s horribly wrong! Considering 15 points or 20 points in Zeal (only with GS) is very good. But the 25 and 30 traits are terrible indeed.

You would get extra attributes by getting Berserk on feet, hands and shoulders (2% dmg crit for 12 attributes) rather than on chest (5% for 72 attributes).
The same goes to your trinkets. If you pick one without %crit dmg, it should be a ring rather than an earing. Also make sure you have Exquisite Ruby or Beryl Jewels.

Now about your runes : if you don’t pick a rune for a special bonus and only for attributes, go with divinity. If you don’t want to spend your gold on it I would suggest you to have a Power Rune.
I think you should use +5% increased damage Sigil (that one is underrated but it is powerful as hell), simple maths.

Sidenote : if you want to optimize your dungeon runs, Sigil of Frailty is the best.
