But overall, we try to make it so that all classes have choices, and teams have choices in which classes they bring.

I mostly play PvP and I can tell that choices are very limited. Except for Warriors, builds have almost no flexibility because players rely on traits to play for them and not the opposite (traits helping players to reach a goal by enhancing a specific part). In the end, you can’t blame them for grabbing traits that are more powerful than others, right?

Is there any engie that do not have Incendiary Power but something else from the same tier? Some traits fall under the “situational” side of the game, not the “always on”. Hence, I believe professions should have innate traits separated from the current trait tree. Things like “burn on crit every 10sec” or “perma vigor” are passive plays while things like “Movement skills break immobilize” are active plays and they are PvP gems : they are such great ideas and very healthy to PvP but they are in the shadows of the passive traits. So keep situational traits away from others directly related to boons/conditions system or always-on effect and you may see various builds.

I cant say every patch is a knee jerk change but if more patches like this happen
in the future where buffs are given to a class that instates them into the flavor of the month club (like the necro recently),

I’m done playing your game Anet. I quit wow after 8 years of playing because they did the same thing, roller coaster patches on class balance. I dedicated my mmo time to GW2 because i loved the pvp in the first one.

I cant say it without being subjective but I honestly think you guys can do better,
right now I think the game needs to tone down the condi and the AoE’s across the board to improve pvp, because most AoE’s and condition effects are the same thing, cast and forget! while rushing to get as much condi removal on your character that will be re-applied as soon as you use them.

this cannot and will not make for engaging or dynamic game-play in pvp. so fix the source of the problem don’t work around.

everyone also complains about the under-powered state of warrior when the answer is simple. the class cannot be effective against a plethora of classes that can spam blind which negates all his attacks, snare’s and immobilizes when he has such dependency on being in melee range. and the fact that other classes have too many escape mechanism for the warrior to stay on target.

warrior does not need to be buffed every patch, all the other classes need to be brought down to the warrior’s level in order to prevent power-creep. buffing the warrior every patch hoping it might be on par with other classes one day is just taking the easy way out, we call these band-aid fixes.

just my thoughts and opinions take them with a grain of salt.

Can’t agree more. It’s not about professions, it’s about the “core” of the game that needs to be “strengthened”. Well I think it needs to be reworked instead.

Necros and conditions out of hand

It is not necros OP, warriors UP, it is the whole boon/condition system that sux. I just died from 2 marks and 2 warriors condi arrows, the lingering conditions got me from 100% to 0%, litterally. My heal was on CD and I have around 21 500 max hp.

I got a bug since last patch that happens something like once per day during PvP.

It appears that at some point if you get stunned during certain actions you won’t be able to move again or do any skill until you use a movement ones. I used to have the same issue while swapping weapons during a movement skill prior to the patch (Guardians’ Leap of Faith most noticeably, Warriors’ Rush and so on).

It has never bothered me until now but considering that it happens in PvP, it becomes bothering.

I remember a game, where conditions weren’t AoE and it was usually pretty important not to spam them, but rather use it at appropriate moments. That was really awesome…

Yeah, opportunity is a skill. Analyzing, reacting, making decisions, mindgaming… all that is so far.

Boons/Conditions are the most present mechanic in the game yet it’s not solid as a rock at all. Conditions are way too powerful and efficient to let room to others mechanics such as combos -A.K.A. one of the best ideas that have been brought to the game- that imho should affect your gameplay a lot more. But once again, except for healing and stealth, combos are about conditions/boons. How sad.

Let’s talk about cleansing conditions : with skills that “removes 1-2 conditions” you won’t go far because most of the time it won’t remove want YOU want to remove and because removing a poison that will be reapplied 1sec latter is just awesome. When it comes to more than 2 guys fighting, you just loose tracks of the conditions and the cleanse. The game needs to categorize conditions and adds more relations between cleansing and conditions such as Hide in Shadows or the warriors’ warhorn 4.

Now about warriors : they are a fair profession with fair tools yet they are weak in the current system because they can’t do kitten with conditions on ‘em (nobody can). Losing one of these tools for a random cleanse every 20+ sec won’t change the deal and buffing their mace stun to 3.0 sec cooldown 7.75 sec is not the solution : change the conditions system already.

They have no idea how to balance this game in my opinion.

Buffing things by 100% ; 500% tells that they sure know what they are doing. Either the skill/trait was forgotten/ignored for too long or they just throw random numbers at it.

Dolyak Signet a lesser Balanced Stance?

I just wish Dolyaks passive was properly balanced with a Guardians Signet of Judgement.

Judgement reduces incoming damage by 10%
Dolyak adds 180 toughness, which is about 6%?

Guardian’s signet virtually adds 11.1% of your current armor value (worst case scenario 2,127) as toughness while Dolyak adds 180 toughness that’s it.

And personally speaking, the only trait I would pick (and I don’t) concerning signets/stances in PvP is stances duration ; you have way better things to grab in Tier 1-2 Discipline and Tier 1 Arms.

It’s rather faster recharge rate. It’s like you would add your watch 30% more juice : divide your current cooldown by 1.00 if you have 0point, 1.30 if you have 30 (leading to -23% cooldown).

It’s been so for 10 months with profession skills and it’s fair.

Both of these skills have the same active effect so basically you trade a +50% recharge time for a passive 180 Toughness? Worst trade ever.

Now about related traits : 40 precision and signet cooldown (signet will still be higher cd) against +duration and vigor for the stance.

Should not be better traits that improves signets activation or passive? Stuff like gain double the passive bonus for 5sec when activating or anything along the lines of other profession.

20/25/0/10/15 is the best.

+12% dmg, +10% with gs, vulnerabilities when crits, might on gs crit, dmg for each boon or banners cd, +9% crit chance.

Switch to an Axe when HundredBlades and Whirlwind are on cd to stack vulnerabilities and deal more damage with Axe’s auto-attack than GS’ auto-attack.

And go full berserker.

If you mean Earthshaker by ES and were thinking about connecting on lower ground targets, you have to know that it’s the same for all the professions with that sort of leap skills (guardian mighty blow for instance).

That is a bit odd… IIRC the ability is only supposed to hit the target once and then return, but perhaps it acts similar to something like throw wrench on the engineer, in which case it would pass through and hit you on the way back.

Even still, that should only be two hits. Perhaps the change of direction is occurring right where your character is and it’s registering multiple times for some reason.

It’s something that I’d need to test to say for sure. It might have to do with how you’re moving too… some skills seem to hit in odd ways if they hit you moving at a certain angle.

I’ve played warrior a lot in PvE and never recall a 3hits Bladetrail even with targets at max range.

Actually it’s more like 4-5-3-3-F3-2-7-F1 with s\p or some variations between stun, bf and utilities…at least 6-7 skills, probably the burst with more skills involved to put out a decent dmg..and one evade-invuln can still screw everything up with pretty much no effort..

You clearly know nothing about mesmer…so why are you posting bs son?

You forgot to start with GS#4 and GS#2. Adding fancy stuff around the core combo does not make it more skillful. It’s just spammed over and over you cannot deny that with the experience you’re hoarded that I, mere player, do not have.

I’ve done this enough times to state that you can chain iLeap/Blurred Frenzy/Any shatter successively several times with minimal effort / downtime for maximal pain.

Evade screwing up things? It’s the same for every profession. Except that evading a Mesmer happens to be much more difficult.

And please, take back your “decent damage” : foes fall like moths even when I don’t pay attention to them.

Necros does not have something close to it with life force as far as I can tell. Thieves ain’t able to spam their skills endlessly, even with initiative traits which are great, they will lose others important assets. I think illusions are already easy to create and with low cooldowns to grant a icd-less trait like that. I mean creating an illusion is much more significant than a bit of health or bit of damage or mark of blood icd 10 lol.

I’ve never had trouble dealing with thieves in 1V1 although I don’t play necro much.

What I can tell you is that for a all-in-one skill such as Flanking strike, you have to expect your opponent to spam it and to try to be a length ahead of him.

2nd : CC thieves. Immobilization and any sort of stun/fear is highly effective if you have conditions running on him. Be prepared to interrupt his heal, often means victory (much easier as an engie).

Direct damage scales way better than any other stuff in the game and sadly most PvE is about dealing damage.

There’s a couple reasons we tend not to put certain things like exploits into patch notes. I’ll go into them a bit

2. In terms of localization of patch note text into different languages, editing, and writing the patch note up, it costs money and time for multiple people. Dedicating resources to explain we closed a particular exploit just isn’t worth the time/resources for every single one, so we’re okay with cutting it from the notes, especially if we have a lot of patch notes that are much more valuable to disseminate out, like Engineer changes and other such things.

its less of a comparison between the two ….it could be mesmers we compare….its just that our weak hp/defense/blocks/invulnerability/boons/stability/conditions dont pay off as the highest burst as we are “stated by anet” to have. thats all. dont think of it as warriors vs thieves…think as it “supposed burst king” vs “supposed to NOT be burst king(s)”…………… if that helps?

I believe burst has more sense in PvP considering the health pools. You can’t maintain a burst phase for 30 sec long or it’s just natural DPS or whatever it’s call.
So in terms of PvE, have to deal with it and keep bursting Cursed Shore Risens.

How difficult is end level thief play?

As of PvE it’s pretty easy, I just bring Black Powder to my team and spam sword auto-attack with full berserker.

As of PvP it’s bit more complicated and I needed to watch someone else playing thief to understand the mechanics of this profession. But yeah once you know what to do, it’s pretty easy to execute.

Warriors’ damage are not all about themselves : they bring FGJ / banners while thieves have Smoke Screen / Black Powder and stuff. Just because they have both high damage output does not mean you have to compare them or want thieves damage to be the same as warriors’.

Several profession skills cooldowns can be reduced by traits but how it’s calculate in the tooltip does not match with the actual cooldown.

Here is an example for 30 points spent in Illusions (30% faster recharge) :
- Tooltip cd : 0.7 × 60 = 42 sec
- Actual cd : 60 / 1.30 = 46 sec

Agree with the mechanics being poor and the cosmetics really limited. Since the day bosses started giving gold T3 cultural armor lost its prior value.

Now the fact that you can do things with any setup was a selling point just as you have access to any profession and gear in sPvP : they want players to have access to and be able to enjoy all the pve content. It was a design choice.
