Pull him to the room to the right. Only enter the main room to hit the hammer.
You can easily make 3+ obsidian shards an hour doing FotM. Once you get above 10 scale, especially into the 20’s you get past grouping with all the disconnecting people and this becomes a non-issue. Most the disconnecting people are still stuck below 10.
As far as making karma, yea, it can be a bit slower w/o plinx. Just get those dailies/monthlies and save them up. Make sure you pop karma booster + guild karma + karma banner for maximum return on them.
Character bound is nice, you have chance at more than 1 ring per tier that way.
You probably hit DR. HotW, CoF and AC are all fast to do. Thus you ran to many dungeons too fast resulting in diminished returns. The way to get around it, run a fast one or two, then switch to a longer dungeon (like CoE or Arah, even TA). It was originally meant to stop speed run exploiters around the first month, it might be a bit dated now.
If you have a guardian you can lay down a wall of reflection, have the team stand behind anywhere (even way behind if you need to spread out) and it’ll reflect the agony projectiles
I use it for lupi. P3 it’ll tele you out of his death dome. It good when you’re out of dodges, aegis, etc. otherwise, I never use the skill.
I like melee on this game. Most fractal bosses I melee, but back off to heal or evade and range a bit.
Several dungeon bosses are the same difficulty or easier than ranged while in melee, IMO:
TA Vine boss
AC final bosses (exp)
Most CoF bosses in 1 and 2
Alpha in 2 and 3 of CoE using stack technique with 1 person ranging
SE bosses in path 3, cept the first guy. 1st and last boss of path 1.These are just a few of the top off the head, there’s more. Now, I would agree that more bosses are ranged friendly than melee, but I don’t think it s a huge difference.
I’m not sure how far you’ve made it into Fractals, but in the later levels (post 20), it makes a significant difference. Using melee on bosses in Fractals is extremely detrimental towards your group’s progress, and will generally result in a wipe, or frustrated group-members.
In regards to the other dungeons, I’d argue it doesn’t make such a huge difference because of how absurdly easy they are; however, with the indefinitely increasing difficulty of Fractals, the disparity between the use of ranged and melee weapons is becoming blatantly obvious.
I’m on 20s and yea it’s gettin harder. I wouldn’t doubt if I had to back out when doin 30s. However, ATM I don’t see much point in going past that until they make the loot more rewarding at higher levels. I swear I get more loot at sub 10 scales than above. Could just be in my head though. More tokens though at higher scales.

Edit: forgot about Arah: on 3, the first 2 champs and the final boss. Path 2 the Asura with the bombs (1st boss?), the pirate with the pistols and the final boss.

My personal favorite is you need to get 300 globs to move forward now. Nothing like “please swipe credit card here”.
You don’t need any globs if you go the fractal capacitor route for the first infusion slot. Basically you can get the capacitor BP with an infusion slot and then infuse it for 1925 tokens (1350 for BP, 500 gift, 75 for infusion to put in it). . It’ll cost you 0 gold an there’s +5 agony resist, enough to survive up to 19 no issues. 20 will be a challenge, but doable. Granted if you want to upgrade to the infused version, then theres 250 ecto.
Also it’s very uneconomical to buy gems then convert them to gold for things like ecto. You’d be paying around $150 for 250 ecto. If this plan was to get you to dump money into gems, they would have force a better transfer rate to gain gold.

It’s completely possible to melee bosses in this game and fractals. I’ve done it with my guard into the 20’s of fractals w/o dying. Granted you can’t melee 100% of the time. There are only 2 bosses in fractals that I can think of tht I don’t melee: final dredge bosses and ascalon final boss.
That said, generally I think it is harder to melee bosses. However, there are a few bosses that I can think of (TA vine boss) that are easier to melee.
Unless it is an exploit that gives player extra gold the response time to these things are pathetic. Dont get your hopes up. May be better off transferring (server) to an open one.
If you’re talking about the Arah farm, it took two weeks for them to fix even that.
If they were nice, they’d group with you to help you progress. They can play lower levels and still get loot and tokens. I do the same for my lower scaled guildies and even am scaling an alt Mesmer to speed the process.
One of the recent blogs said that they were looking to make old dungeons more on par with fractals in terms of gameplay. Also, they buffed the rewards to them greatly, making them worthwhile to do, but most people are still caught up in fractals to realize it. I made about 2g from HotW Story (yes, story) mode the other day. I’ve also been making decent cash on others, but have been fractal’n a lot.
Also, gw2lfg.com is great for finding groups. I haven’t had to search more than 15 mins for a group. Even non-fractals.

Same thing happened to me with a GTX 670. Swapped it out for an old GTS 450 from an old computer, crashes went away. Card was bad, so RMA. If you have access to another graphics card, test it out.
I’ve thought of that, but there aren’t conflicts with any other application. I’ve also had this card for quite a while, so I’m not sure if it’s even eligible. I don’t have another GPU to test out, either.
As per Wauwi’s suggestion, I now have a log (included in this post) of my GPU’s activity up until the crash. I managed to stay in game for a surprisingly long period of time, and during WvW of all things. It actually didn’t crash until I went back to the world and started on my daily achievement.
Yea, I was seemingly having problems only with GW2 as well. I’d run other games (Crysis 2, BL2, BF3, etc) with seemingly little difficulty. I think GW2 tweaked it in just the right way. However, finally I was able to get it to start on BF3. But it was just way more common on GW2. Virtually unplayable. I’d mess with the gfx settings, and it’d occasionally prolong game time. Swapped out for the old GTS 450, max setting, not 1 crash in a week playing 5hrs+ a day for about 4days a week.
I spent so much time messing around with drivers, setting, etc, etc. Literally hours. In the end, my hardware was at fault. Whats funny, though, is I still couldn’t get it to crash on Crysis 2 with HD pack and Tessallation pack on Max settings. I think the greater optimization of some games was helping my card stay stable as opposed to GW2.
Anyways, I hope that’s not your issue. If you have and EVGA card, they are eligible for RMA up to 3yrs as long as you have the serial on it still and no physical damage. They will also send it to you first, if you’re willing to put a hold on your credit card for the cost of card, until you ship back the defective one. I would figure other manufacturers would do similar things as well to be competitive in the market.

Adding to Conterk’s counterpoint, they buffed other dungeons loot when fractals came out. I get several Rares running through dungeons like Arah and HotW. Not to mention extra tokens. The only loot that is better in fractals is the small chance at ascended.
If fractal scale is account bound then so will be the daily chests. What I mean is, right now, if you get 2 characters to scale 10, you can run each character through that scale for a chance at an ascended ring basically doubling your chances per day. I’d much rather have this than having all my characters at the same scale but only 1 daily chest.
That +5 agony resist that you can infuse into it is a lifesaver even if its the wrong stats. Worse case scenario: on scales 10-19 only equip it during boss fights, since that’s only where the agony is. Second way to use it: give it to an alt. I’m not sure if it can be salvaged and/or what it drops as salvage. Sounds like a bad idea though unless you really don’t care.
So, people will hit an effective ceiling due to Agony bleed for a while, but as other Infused gear is later released into the game there should be renewed interest in running Fractals as people will suddenly be able to run higher difficulty levels / get better rewards ?
Mostly, however, other than the daily chest and mist essence, there’s no real difference in loot between the tiers from what I’ve seen. Personally, I hit 20, farm 10&20 for daily then scale up an alt to also farm 10&20. If you just want to make money, run scale 9’s where there’s no agony and pugs are starting to get a general idea of what’s going on. That’s just my perspective.
Edit: you do get more tokens in higher tiers though.
Not sure if its any consolation, but they are working on the disconnect issue.
Read the stickies in forums, they are helpful. There’s a sticky that talks about gw2lfg.com. Use it. I don’t even sit in LA anymore. Usually find groups for any dungeon in 15mins.
This is posted in the tech support forums already. No solution though.
gw2lfg.com is the best place to find people for dungeons. It’s got it’s own sticky in these forums even. Look up.
gw2lfg.com is your friend.
This is possibly the fastest fractal if you get the hang of it, here’s some advice:
1: if you’re running a wisp, bring speed boons, stability and maybe condition removal.
2: a Mesmer with portal can help a lot, drop portal at the columns and one at center before wall.
3: if you’re familiar with US football, think of it this way: the wisp carriers are like runningbacks and the other 2 ppl are like blockers. The blocker ppl run ahead of the wisp carriers to get aggro from mobs and maybe eat a trap or two that the carrier might not see. Typically put the blocker ppl with the wisps runners that are the farthest out.
This fractal gets harder so now’s the time to learn, scales 10-19 have 2 walls you potentially have to get by as opposed to 1.

I was having this issue, tried everything under the sun. I finally decided to swap out my GTX 670 with an old GTS 450 from a previous comp and I’m now running max settings no crashes. I’m currently RMA’n the 670. Point being, swap out your gfx car if you can and test.
These are rings (at bottom): http://dulfy.net/2012/11/17/gw2-ascended-gear-and-infusion-recipes/
The stat combo you want might not even exist. Not only that, but the rings are ‘unique’ meaning if one has the stats you want, you can’t equip that ring twice if you had two. This makes it more challenging because you have to decide: do I want my specific stats from exotics or the agony resist? So the trade/sell thing wouldn’t be that useful since rings might not have the stat combo you want, and even if it did, you could only have 1 with that combo.

Got lucky on my first run I guess.
If I remember correctly, at launch dungeons only dropped 30 tokens per path. 10-15 I think for second run. Not only that, there were no bags dropping tokens. Now they give 60 and a few extra. It’s a lot better than it use to be. I was getting 72 on Arah runs with bags the last 2 weeks.
Glad I’m hearing other people having the pickup crystal issue and the stuck run issue. I thought my w key was getting stuck or something.
Use gw2lfg.com to find Arah groups. You can usually get a party member on a server with Arah open. This is how I did my last few runs. Usually less than 15mins to find Group for Arah on that site.
Ascended rings from FotM are also unique.
I would like to know more about the daily chest as well (appears like a daily/monthy/map completion in R corner)
It seems to me it works like this:
1: (Obvious) Drops after defeating Jade Maw
2: It seems like it drops once per ‘tier’. What I mean is you get 1 daily for defeating a maw in the range of 1-9, but you can get another for defeating a maw in the range of 10-19, etc, etc. Not 100% sure on this.
3: I think the 20 bonus relics come from this chest, but I never really paid that much attention.
4: At scale 10, for the daily chest, you have a chance to get an ascended ring. I personally got ’Snaff’s Gyre’ from this chest.
5: You’re not guaranteed an ascended ring; I was the only in my party to get it.
2 is what I’d like clarification on, if anyone knows. I think this is inline with what the OP is asking.
This is pretty unsettling. I have a 3D surround setup and 1 gtx 670 now and was planning to sli around Christmas. I get pretty good frames on one now but would another be worth it? I have a i5 2500k @ 4.3ghz
If you’re optimizing for this game specifically, Id go with a better processor. I’m running an i7 3280 @ 4ghz and my GTX 670 will sit at 60% most of the time. CPU still holding me up.
Yea, finding someone with a low scale will get you into the lower tiers. However, I read somewhere tht the scale will reset every week, but that could just be a rumor. I believe I read it on on of the sites that had a sneak peak on the dungeon last week. Maybe someone else saw this as well and can chime in or a dev will kindly confirm or deny.
Basically, you have a personal scale based on how far in the dungeon you survived. When you party up, the dungeon looks at everyone’s scale and puts you in the scale based on the person with the lowest.
Example: 4 ppl with scale 10, 1 person with scale 1, you’ll start at scale 1. This doesn’t hurt the 4 ppl with higher scale, it’s just their scale won’t progress til they get to scale 11. The persons with scale 1 with get his scale progressed up to how far they go.
It helps if you post systems specs when in tech forums. My guess would be if you have an Nvidia card, make sure the settings under nvidia control panel are set to “application controlled”
There was an earlier post on this, dev said this is not intended. Off to look for post…

They stated this during the Halloween event, they determine the finale by placing it durin the peak recorded hours so the most people benefit. So, in other words, 12pm pst is statistically their highest number of people logged in on average time.
I assume the times for Friday and Saturday are the same for ease or to keep 24hrs between each event.
I posted in another thread: I was having same prob, disabled reflections while in character selection screen and it fixes it. For now.
I had the same issue after patch, would crash seconds into the game. I disabled reflections and it fixed it. Although I used to be able to have them on…
You can edit video settings in the character selection screen before you’re in the world.
| Disclaimer: I agree many of the major known bugs have not been noted to be addressed in this patch (plus apparently a few promised fixes—but I’m not in the position to verify any information of that sort), but forum etiquette and civility should not decline so sharply as a result of that.
In regards to the recent patch (Nov. 15, 2012), there is an—arguably understandable—trend hitting the forums concerning the impacts of many of the changes (and the perceivably lacking).
To the posters and their varying range of reactions: Please don’t allow the quality of your demeanors to plummet. As it has been reiterated many, many times before: please offer “negative” content in the form of constructive criticism. All forum activity defines the quality of the forums. Any individual post influences the forum community; accumulate that with a number of “individual” posts and you have a compelling force that may run the risk of devaluing the forum’s reputation and overall content.
Concerning the players: no one class has been “negatively” affected on their lonesome. You aren’t the only class of player complaining about the viability of your main.
Take into consideration the foresight and development balance (workload) ArenaNet must put forth during this post-release development period. Add along with that the number of unreleased notes that may regard to changes still underway. Please remember, and if not—learn, that there are numerable phases and stages developers and designers alike must go through to implement changes in a build of this size, be it minuscule or major. Nothing is implemented instantly.
So I urge posters to please, if they desire to discuss, discuss. Avoid unnecessary and non-contributive commentary.
Under my current impression, you are the foremost and most potent voice of the player community ArenaNet hears. Make what you have to say worthwhile, and part of you being a benefactor.
Well put. Wether you agree with changes, fixes, etc, please keep it civil, professional and polite. Anet will look at issues more constructively when we present them as so.
Look at patch notes, they just increased the time between his respawn by a few mins.
I run guardian against lupi. Guardians definitely seem to be one of the easier classes to deal with him. I personally run “retreat” and “stand your ground” along with renewed focus (I think that’s the elite name). This give you 2 aegis to use instantly, and invuln and then another aegis. These help when you’re out of endurance. It’s important to use dodges first then aegis when low on endurance. Stand your ground helps on phase 1 and phase 3. I you’re too slow on phase 3 hit stand your ground and aegis to gtfo of the dome of death.
*Edit: Important note, all those aegis abilities are given to party in earshot as well. This adds to the survivability of the whole group and one of those aegis could save someone from a bad dodge and instakill.

I would go all out on CPU and not worry about dual graphics cards. I also don’t know if a 750W supply would run that setup.
With my setup I get 75fps+ outside WvW and 30-60 in WvW depending on situation.
My rig:
i7 3280 OC’d to 4GHz
Nvidia GTX 670 4Gb
16Gb DDR3 2133
Asus P9X79 Pro mobo
Corsair 1050W Gold 80 plus cert
With that setup my CPU is still holding me back on GW2. Thus I’d recommend going for a nice CPU and sticking with 1 GPU for now with the option to upgrade. That being said, I’d go for at least a 1000w PSU and make sure it’s 80 plus cert. That will give you plenty of power when you decide to drop in a second card.
EDIT* I also believe that GW2 isn’t optimized for SLI yet (if it will be)
I was having crashing/black screening from only this game, no others. I have well above the specs needed to run at max. I tried everything on the stickies and every little trick people posted on these forums. Changed graphic setting, everything…. I thought.
Finally it hit me to check my BIOS. It’s something people easily overlook. My version was 4 months behind, build notes in each patch said ’improved system stability". Funny enough, after updating my bios, my system was more stable during GW2.
It’s something to try, might not be your specific issue. I’m using an ASUS p9x79 pro mobo. Maybe that’ll help other asus mobo users with this prob.
People will have better luck helping you out if you’d kindly post your system specs.
So far, I’d look in the direction of your GPU or Monitor. One of them could be going bad. But its hard to say since we have no info on your PC.
Also go through the stickys in the Tech Support forums and configure your card/gfx settings accordingly. It can help with struggling systems.
But yea, post your specs.
Tried doing a clean boot to see if another program in the background, etc was causing it while playing GW2. Still no luck.
I’d say you need an upgrade. Disabling Vsync will help FPS a lot, but obviously you might have screen tearing.
