I’m just waiting for someone to dig up the red quote that said, we wont be doing the things the chinese version has done…..

It’s getting really really sad that it’s clear NCSoft has complete control and Anet has virtually 0.

Didn’t they mean premium vip type accounts for that? I’ve been thinking about this a bit over the last week or so and I’d be interested to see a quote again.

It was in relation to the VIP system, which is by the way still in our files and apparently we will be getting more of the VIP system features as they are sitting there in waiting.

Hmmm. Features I can handle but VIP accounts is too late for this game now (in my opinion). I’d imagine Anet know this too but people further up the food chain…? I hope it doesn’t come to that.

Doesn’t look like people are really giving it a go.

No, once again ANet is doing a horrible job at communicating information when they start making changes to core game systems. Not that this would make all the ire go away, because the Skill Unlocks are still very much hard locks and make for some very dull play-styles from 1-80.

No, I’ll stand by my statement. Particularly in light of that quote chain from which you snipped my statement. If you need Anet to hold your hand and explain every single nuance of a change then that’s your problem.

So they removed hard-hitting, condition-applying enemies in low level zones… while also removing the ability to dodge and heal early on. Take more things away and dumb the game down more, please!

They didn’t remove the ability to dodge or heal. I dodged an attack in the starter instance and dodged whenever I wanted at low level. There is also the heal skill right there, same as always.

And I was just hit by conditions in Caledon. Doesn’t look like people are really giving it a go.

so what makes it faster to level early on? did they reduced the exp?

I’m confused, beside making renown heart easier.

Seems to me that the events give more xp as well, but I haven’t played a character from level 2 to 7 for a while so maybe not. The levels are coming fast though.

Feature pack 9/9: feedback

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: zenleto.6179

zenleto.6179

So what are your initial thoughts on the new feature pack? For those who have had a chance to play it?

The leveling isn’t as bad as I thought it was going to be. Its faster, if anything. And not just because there’s a stack of players trying it out. Most everything else is what I thought it would be, and not in a negative way.

The only thing I don’t like is having several billion commander tags in my face. edit: I also don’t like that my level 27 character that I’m currently leveling can’t collect the sp from the Wayfarer worm cave, and I’m not a fan of the other map changes to Wayfarer.

What do I think of the new patch?

/uninstalled

I thought you’d already done that.

Personally, I don’t. edit: I’m going to revise my opinion down to “not fussed”. Leveling is even faster than it was before so the “gates” aren’t as awful as I thought they’d be.

However, for a new player (really new) this won’t be awful. Experienced MMo players probably won’t like having their hands held too much but anybody else shouldn’t find an issue with it. Unless they listen to whinging vets (like I’ve been doing…). I’ve been running lowbies around this morning to try it out and its no great hardship…just change.

Honestly,my personal advice would be to reduce the hours spent in game,30 hr a week can make anyone get bored, especially someone who has achieved most of his goals.

lol what is a permadeath character?

If it dies it gets deleted.

I think it does change things. Potential new players come to forums of games to see what the community that actually cares enough about the game to post on forums is like. When they see all this, I believe someone who considered buying the game but wasn’t fully convinced, might not buy it after all. Many of the people in my gaming circle, including me, work KIND OF like this way. So I guess it might change things, but again, that’s just a guess based on own experiences, so it might be as well it changes nothing.

People should experience things for themselves and not trust the word of anonymous strangers. Good friends yes but not strangers. Its a bit of a gamble if they read that some people think that a game is poor and but they’ll never know if they would like it or not if they don’t try it out. Experienced mmo players should know what gaming forums are like, at least. And game companies and retailers give refunds now so its not even that much of a gamble.

Yeah, that would be the ideal situation. First experience it for yourself. +1 from me. But I know a lot of people that don’t have that much money. They can’t buy games they might like, because they can only afford a couple of games. If they buy a game they might like, but come out empty handed they feel like they have wasted money and time. That is literally how some people see it. It’s the same as Metacritic and any other review site. They say what THEY think the game is like, and people that don’t have a lot of money to spare really take those opinions in consideration. And those are also the people that would take forum comments into consideration.

Very true, some people are in a situation where they need to study up on a game first. While I was finishing off my post I was starting to wonder why there isn’t a free trial for GW2. In two weeks people can get something of a feel for the game, if they have the time to play it often during that time. Its something that would help.

Or you can just log in, unlock the updates and log out again. It’s not like he has to install the game.

Still doesn’t stop the practice being punitive to returning users who have paid the exact same amount as those who never left.
Butter this any way you like, it’s a repulsive practise, in the most literal meaning of the word “repulsive”.
It actively repels customers.

Or it rewards loyal customers, however you call it.

I don’t know many games that give you free content updates forever and ever on the purchase price. And since you can trade gold for gems, people coming back don’t even have to spend real cash to get those updates.

If people like that stuff, they can buy it. If they can’t they can still play the game without those specific instances and rewards.

I guess I’m a glass is half full type of guy.

I would EASILY drop $30-50 on a large expansion…

Why I left GW2

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: zenleto.6179

zenleto.6179

It has been confirmed a while ago that vayne’s reason d’etre is to find any and all threads about GW, about leaving GW2, or about providing criticism about GW2, and then derail them as much as possible to obscure the original point of a particular OP.

Naturally, it appears such derails do not qualify for moderation, as they coincide with the company stance on such issues (or such would be my best guess, at least).

Needless to say, I expect prompt moderation and deletion of this post, on the other hand.

And I assume you think your post is on topic somehow?

On topic: I’m not even sure that leaving posts are against the rule anymore, I had thought they were, but some of them have been left.

Depends on how respectful people are, it seems. And if there’s any constructive discussion involved.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

I don’t really see how that affects my enjoyment of the game, because I don’t really know a difference. It’s a bow, it fires an arrow.

One guy was complaining that pine is a soft wood not hard wood and we shouldn’t get hard wood from pine. He’s undoubtedly right.

Do most people care? I don’t think so.

Edit: Keep in mind you can kill a deer and get armor and weapons from it.

Once upon a time in STO, people (myself included) pointed out that a particular Starfleet starship didn’t have the proper red (port) and green (starboard) navigation lights. It was fixed, because the devs working on the ships at the time actually cared enough to want to get it right.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Star Wars is Star Wars and has some of the most die hard fans around so I’m not surprised by that figure. As a universe it just craps on nearly anything else.

Die hard fans didn’t stop SWTOR from completely tanking before giving up and going Free To Play. What enables SWTOR to generate so much money from a smaller player base is their cash shop model, which is far more intrusive than what we have.

There’s a lot of QOL stuff that’s locked behind a paywall. Action bars, the amount of money you can store in your bank, the ability to run; these and many others require you to pay for them to unlock, or just pay the subscription. Honestly, it’s a bloody brilliant way of getting players to sub; DDO followed much the same model (although they put a lot of content behind paywalls) and they completely turned their game around.

Plus, SWTOR’s cash shop has a lot of pretty awesome stuff in it that the Black Lion Company doesn’t really come close to. When a player can run through GW2 from start to finish and not even know the cash shop is there, it’s not really surprising that revenue streams are low.

Yeah, that was one of the reasons why I stopped playing SWTOR. That and lag, quest hubs, etc.

I subbed with DDO before it went free and kept it up after. Their shop was fine to start with but then they introduced crafting materials. I stopped playing not long after that but for lag and other non-game related reasons so I don’t know what else is in there now. It really did turn the game around. It blew my mind to see the amount of people running around after it went free. It really is something people like.

And I don’t mind the odd use of overcoat since its cold in them thar Shiverpeaks but there are just so many of them.

I love the overcoat on my Norn ranger, Aurora Wildborn. Hate it on my Charr engineer, Pyanfar Cherryh (she’s only 71 or 72 and wearing whatever armor that’s best, no skins, waiting until she’s 80 to get a look I want). I don’t really like it on my level 80 Sylvari thief, Dyvid Fernleaf, but tell myself he’s using it to hide all the stuff he’s managed to steal. Truth is I have several other level 80’s I’m working on getting their looks the way I want that I like better. Still if there were some jackets and not just skimpy vests all of my medium armor characters would probably be wearing them, or at least the Charr and the Sylvari.

Looks like we’ve picked almost the exact same look for our Sylvari thieves. Here’s mine, Skink Longleaf. I like this look for him though. He’s just a travelling Sylvari who enjoys seeing whats what and helping people out. The thing I like most about the coat is that the shirt underneath it looks like it could be a plain old cotton one.

sidenote: The coat skin is the exact same skin since I bought it from Tor. I just kept using it every time he picked up a new coat. He’s over a year old so it was “exoticised” well before the wardrobe.

but we definitely need real Norn female armor:

Completely agree. Why do Norns have all these fantastic tattoos and then cultural armor covers them up? The more naked a Norn, the better. I’m not sure about the other male races but I’d definitely like to see more scantily clad male Norns.

Yep. I’ve just rolled (another) male Norn ranger and I’ve decided that for his map roaming life he’s going to spend the whole time shirtless.

This is the only feature I’m really looking forward to. My characters have still got all sorts of crappy knicknacks they picked up while levelling.

It didn’t need fixing.

True it doesn’t but lots of people don’t like it and probably the majority would like to have something to hide it or completely gone.
You can say that you like it and that’s perfectly fine, no problem, but still it’s one of those really few things that people can proof that you are on the minority.
There’s posts about hobosacks on every feature update and every once in a while on other sub forums and let’s not forget the longest post that has been on the first page for almost 2 years now on engi forum.
I mean, if you main engi you probably don’t like that they updated minis and finishers and still there hasn’t been a response from any dev about hobo sacks for more than a year.

Yeah, that great and fine. I know people don’t like them. But if he’d wanted to have a discussion about it then he could have had one like an adult instead of changing my post.

And for the record, I seem to be in a minority for just about everything in this game. I’ve made my own niche!

Ye sorry xd, I just want to keep this on first page so hopefully some dev will answer and say how stupid I am or something. IDK hobosacks are definitely worth it.

A checkbox to toggle the kit packs on and off seems so easy but there must be more to it, I guess. I’m sure I’ve seen a post where one of he devs ( Colin maybe?) said he’d like to see something tweaked there as well and that was long while ago.

Unfortunately, the thread most likely be moved. Sort of surprised it hasn’t been moved already.

Monotonous male armor

This is one of the reasons why people do not play Asura or Charr too much. They are forced to wear the male armors, but the male armors are boring.

And male Charr and Asura are forced to wear women’s clothes. Boring ones at that.

I like the kit backpacks, I think its one of the things that make the engineers different.

And it looks like I have a bit more pride in the profession than the people who want to compare them to homeless bums.

….seriosly, do you even know whatcha talking about? I guess you do.. but lets be sure.

Here.. take a look at this exquisite piece of modern art… the expensive as sin molten jetpack glitching together with the grenade hobosack. Doesnt that just look amazing how it blends with the armor colours?

Or lets admire the next piece of art…the homeless angel. What does the artist wants to tell us with his works? The contradicting colours, the glitching of two backpieces. A struggle of a class? A statement? The cry for help? You decide dear observer.

This one is a classic but well known to art collectors, it goes under the name “double pack” and is commonly seen at low level zones. Newer engineers usually cannot understand its beauty… but can you blame them? You need to look close and regard the fine details, the bolt use of two putrid brown sacks and two reddish brown cloth flaps, but the artist pushed the limits…and added a shovel that glitches along in silence.
Many times too much for the newcomer to the trade.. and also an obstacle…a test to prove if you are worthy to venture deeper into engineer uniqueness and art.

And for our final piece tonight we got a rare piece from rata sun. Its commonly known as the crooked scientist. A rare sight.. so lets worship it in silence. Admire the bolt slanting and take a close look at the details and the uniqueness. Everybody who owns such a timeless piece should consider him.. or herself as lucky… NOT!

thats just a few examples i googled, i dont own any of these chars (though i wish id own the one with the jetpack XD)… but thats just to make a small example. Want to see more? Just look for engies with backpieces and ask em to draw a kit…then ask em how they feel about it. 90% will go sad. A checkbox would fix that…

Wasted words.
