Can API endpoint be improved to be more usable – approaching real time updates?
The delay is caused by two things:
The map instance servers only persist character data back to the database periodically (once every few minutes), not in real-time.
* Since the API backend talks directly to the character database, it caches data (five minutes) to avoid setting the entire game on fire.
Because of the first reason, primarily, real-time updates are architecturally impossible.
Previously, if you had someone on your team disconnect from a match for 2 minutes or more, and your team loses the match, only the person who disconnected would lose rating.
We’ve decided to lower this timer to 90 seconds.
If we have a teammate who DCs for the said amount of time and comes back do we still lose rating? Having someone DC for ~90 seconds thus losing a match(pretty much every DC above 30 seconds in plat) then have that person come back and cause us to lose rating really hurts moral.
It doesn’t matter if the dc’d player comes back. As soon as someone on your team is gone for 90 seconds, you won’t lose rating for a loss.
Previously, if you had someone on your team disconnect from a match for 2 minutes or more, and your team loses the match, only the person who disconnected would lose rating.
We know some of you are still having some issues and/or are seeing them anew. If you have time while responding to this thread can you let me know:
What card you guys are currently seeing the issues on (even if you’ve responded before)?
What map are you in when you observe this issue?
Please add a screenshot with your minimap showing in the screenshot (this helps QA in trying to identify the location so we can give a location for lights to programming)
Please add a second screenshot with your graphics options showing so we can get a quick read on what settings you are using when the report is made.
Please add what issue are you reporting on?
Lighting is dark to the point of no visibility (sometimes areas are darker by design).
Shadows having a blocky or corrupted looking appearance.
Flickering shadows.
Something else entirely (please briefly describe what you are experiencing).
There are several issues that can be at play and we can investigate case by case.
The statues are showing up in new instances of the lobby now. We’ve closed the old instances off for joining. They will shut-down naturally as people end up in the newly spawned instances.
We wanted to provide some transparency into the current state of our support queues. With the recent announcement of Path of Fire, our ticket volumes have spiked. We planned for this, but the spike was greater than forecasted. We are working as quickly as possible to make sure that we respond to everyone’s ticket. For those who may be unaware, we resolve tickets in the order in which they are received. However, there is one major exception: We always make sure to have a few of our staff doing nothing but the new tickets that come into our queues. This ensures that we do not miss any new issues that need to be prioritized.
As of this today, we have about 6,000 tickets in our backlog. The good news is that each day we are resolving more tickets than the number that are coming in to our queues, which means it is just a matter of time until we are caught up completely. However, this may take a couple weeks so please hang in there. Your tickets have not been lost, and we have not forgotten about you. Our support staff is working 24/7 to make sure everyone receives a response.
You can find a few suggestions that will help us process your ticket here.
We appreciate everyone’s patience as we work through this situation and get everyone the assistance they need.
The guy was supposed to be perma dishonored from pvp has the kitten to get on here and ask where his statue is at and a dev responds immediately on a weekend no less to look into it XD
#AnetDevPriorities
The monthly is run on the weekend to allow as many qualified players as possible an opportunity to play. Even though it’s the weekend, we keep an eye on the tournament in case something goes wrong. A bug was reported that tournament rewards were not distributed correctly, so we’re going to follow up on that report. Nothing more to it.
We have a potential change that we’re working on to to reduce instances of this happening. Probably not 100%, but hopefully a significant amount. If testing goes ok, we’re hoping it’ll be ready in time for PoF launch.
I just found out that someone thought that because I asked for an e-mail address, they would be contacted by e-mail if they made the VIP list. No!
If you are added to the VIP list, you will received a response to your PM here on the forums.
So please, check your PMs to learn if you’re on the list. And also you’ll want to be aware that if you are not on the VIP list, there will be a sort of “general admission” line, so you may very well make it into the party!
This is a topic that I’ve been concerned about too, not as a woman, but as a human being. Hurtful words that are used unthinkingly can impact anyone, from a victim of sexual assault to a person with Down’s Syndrome or an individual with physical handicaps.
We do try to filter the use of certain words on the forums. I stand behind that process because, viewing the big picture, an individual’s perceived “right to free speech” which so often equates to “right to offend” should not outweigh a community’s right to enjoy a pleasant and accepting experience.
Because some seem unable or unwilling to participate in a straightforward conversation on this topic, I’ve locked the thread and the moderators will conduct a significant clean-up on the contents.
In terms of data for RNG samples, 500, while it seems like a lot, is still a very very small sample size. Its entirely possible to have even worse luck than you had.
Your PFL (Personal Fractal Level) is what determines what LFG you can search for, not your agony resist. You have to play lower scale fractals to raise it.
Honestly I’d prefer a vendor – turn in X number of kits and buy a specific dye. I have 33 of the first kits, 19 of the second and 2 of the third so far and 6 dyes from a single kit that I don’t have. Depending on how the forging would work, most likely I’d be somewhere between throwing them away and it not being significant compared to actually picking dyes I’d want, but it would work better for others at least.
I do not anticipate that the developers are considering adding another vendor for this once-a-year item. I was looking at the options that we currently have at hand. I’m most interested in learning if the items can be put into the Mystic Forge. I have so many characters on so many accounts, I have to figure out who would be eligible for the birthday gift today.

GW2Navi can do that and then some more. Has GPS feature and you can get chat codes for waypoints and stuff. It is just an overlay that uses API so its not a “legal hack” like dps meters.
Thanks for sharing that idea, too, TheRandomGuy. It sounds like a very useful tool… although I’m a little unclear about what it intended to be linked in the reference to the tool being “ArenaNet promoted.”
I’ve never seen a daily “ore from map x”
Those dailies always include a wide part of the map, say “ore from ascalon”, “vista from orr” etc.
This is correct.
Gathering is regional and the related maps are given in the event description. Today’s reads: “Gather raw materials by harvesting trees in the following Heart of Maguuma maps: Verdant Brink, Auric Basin, Tangled Depths, and Dragon’s Stand.”
Daily Event Completers are specific to a map, which can be ascertained by knowing or looking up the regions and then searching for the map within that region. For instance, today’s says, “Complete events in Caledon Forest in the Maguuma Jungle.” So I head to the Maguuma Jungle area of the world map and find Caledon Forest and away I go.
Daily Adventures have a link within the notice that shows you exactly where the adventure is sited. Sometimes you may need to click that link twice to go to the world map and see where it is and then click again to identify the nearest waypoint, but it’s very functional.
Maybe it would help if you describe the maps to yourself as a group and learn where the groups are on the map
For myself, I use something like this
Ascalon: Charr area, brown maps on far right/east
Shiverpeaks: Norn, white maps
Kryta: Humans, green central maps
Maguuma jungle: both Asura and Sylvari maps, core Tyrian maps on far left/west and maps below Lions Arch
Orr: brown maps in the south
Use whatever description makes sense to you and remember them as a grouped area on your mental map of the world.
I do something very similar. Sometimes, even after all this time, I muddle Orr and “Charrland” as I call Ascalon, but I get there eventually.
atheria — asking for a change of this nature is a very significant request. It’s not a “simple” alteration to the game at all, as it would involve a major code, art, and UI change, and it would need to be done in four languages. In truth, you have the ability to address your specific needs by printing a map of the five regions, or just drawing a sketch that shows Orr in the lower center; Ascalon in the upper right, etc. I completely understand that you cannot remember the locations, but you can make a tool for yourself that will help you and that is by far the most practical resolution for this personal situation.
can you also fix the progress blocking bugs in AC p2, SE p2, Arah p2 and Arah p3, please? These are all NPC scripts failing
Probably not, but I’m at least looking in to Detha’s script when I get some free time.
as a player who love dungeons, the stories , locations and stuff , this is soo sad , you have a good potential content , and you are letting it die… dat logic… it’s like Twisted Marionette the best world event , and you removed it forever… always smart choises always
It’s not like we want to leave the bugs in, its just that they were built a long time ago with different tools, and fixing them requires a lot of developer time. Time that could be spent on making new fractals and such. Any time I spend fixing dungeon bugs is completely voluntary, and is probably going to be done on weekends.
The drop rates are pretty dang high for ascended gear, but RNG is by definition, random. It has nothing to do with the efficiency of the algorithm, and our algorithm has a good distribution anyways.
The better question is why is viper/HoT stats accessories still not available through fractals, especially when you’ve made balance changes that have kicked power builds out of relevance?
That is a popular feedback item regarding future fractal rewards that is on my list of potential proposals.
Fractal legendary armor (doesn’t need to be a fancy skin – can just be stat swapping like the PVP / WvW ones) for PVE players who don’t want to raid. It can be STUPID expensive, but at least give players a way of getting it that does not involve them playing content they are not interested in (again – as they have provided for WvW and PVP players).
The biggest concern with fractal legendary, even if it has no unique skin, is that raids is the source for PvE legendary armor, and we don’t want to diminish that.
That said i don’t think anyone would complain about a fractal style armor set assuming you guys can spare the artist and resources to do it.
That is the real question. Armor sets are surprisingly expensive in terms of developer cost.

The others have highlighted mostly why we don’t do this. It’s a lot more work, taking precious time away from new fractals, systems, and rework, and it blurs the definition of fractals. I agree it would be super neat to also scale difficulty with party size in a way, but I don’t ever see that happening based on our backlog and the reasons stated above.
There’s lots of good discussion here, thanks guys I’ll be working on an internal pitch for specific changes based on player feedback soon. There’s a lot of variables at play so I’m not sure yet which changes are actually feasible when we take everything, particularly economy, into account.
Apparently placements doesnt count leavers. Had a fantastic 3v5 game from start to finish that still counted towards a loss.
The game still shows as a loss in the UI but your rating is unaffected.
I did get an extra loss on the placement UI and it did count towards the 10 games.
Right. The UI shows the game as a loss, but your rating was unaffected. Usually when a teammate leaves the match you see the 0 for your rating change after the game ends. During placements your rating isn’t visible yet so you don’t see the 0, but that same result happens.
Well if it works like that you also do your placements match over 9 games only, which will place you lower than you could have been.
All aspects of rating (including deviation and volatility) are unaffected by a forfeit (4v5). If you get a forfeit during placements, your first game after will essentially have the same behavior as the 10th placement game except that the rating delta will be visible.
