We’ve temporarily disabled the NPC Koollan the Little Builder to fix a server crash. We’ll update this thread when the problem has been fixed and the NPC has been re-enabled.
As a followup, we noticed some suspicious behavior in regards to Thyme prior to the build, which was an ingredient for Savory Winterberry Sauce. The recipe was adjusted to no longer require Thyme Leaves, and the steak and salad recipes are now available to purchase.
Thanks for submitting this! I’ve confirmed that Sensor Scouter is broken in southsun. We’re looking into it! As a side note, please don’t fret about these achievements going away anytime soon. We’ll be sure to let people know if their availability is going to change.
Posts like this are what make designing encounters so rewarding. I’m ecstatic to hear you had a blast.

Living World
Taimi made a major breakthrough in Rata Novus when she discovered that magic can be broken into spectrums, which led her to speculate that the remaining dragons are absorbing each other’s power. She sent the commander to the Fire Islands to collect a recent destroyer sample in hopes of testing her theory. The expedition was a success, but the group was compelled to leave when a vision from Glint’s egg called them back to Tarir…just in time to see Aurene hatch! The celebration was short-lived, however. A mursaat named Lazarus crashed the party, claiming his rebirth had changed him and that he now wanted to side with the new guild and stand against the dragons. The commander declined the alliance, but Marjory was intrigued and left with Lazarus. Now, with Jormag also on the rise, the commander has to brave the bitter cold to see how the new theory of magic absorption affects the merciless ice dragon. Bundle up!

A new legendary weapon is now available. Speak to Grandmaster Craftsman Hobbs in Lion’s Arch to learn how to craft the new shield precursor Friendship, and forge the new legendary shield Shooshadoo.

Damage in T4 fractals is in a weird spot right now, especially in the older fractals. Our new fractals focus on damage from sources that are more visibly telegraphed, and we’re moving forward with that design philosophy for all of our reworks and new releases.
No one likes being killed by something they didn’t see coming, and while some of the current damage sources are fair, many of them feel too punishing. You’re going to see this become more balanced as time goes on and we get more reworks out.
Today’s release of Nightmare shows off this new encounter design framework in full force, I encourage you to take a crack at it and let us know what you think.
I would say that kind of falls under the “Players helping Players” subforum. Most of the time, it’s new players that post there and veteran players that answer, so it’s definitely helpful.
I was just going to post that suggestion, so thank you for doing so! Player helping Players is a very valuable asset, and I encourage everyone to give that a look.
Please note that we have addressed the issue of the accidental blocking of certain countries day ago with a forum post that included an explanation and apology for that mix-up. The unintended block (<48 hours, as I recall) was corrected, players from the blocked countries are back in the game, and all is well.

We have the capacity to make new content that doesn’t use as many old assets, and we will be doing that. We just really liked the idea of ToN as a fractal and had the added bonus of needing less prop + texture support, which meant Jeff had more bandwidth to do new effects and map art as well as work for the next fractal.
Since we have 16 different fractals with nightmare included, and only 3 daily fractals which are completed in less than 30min with an experienced group, can we please get more dailies?
We do actually like keeping the dailies somewhat short, since lots of dailies means that groups feel they have to play for hours per day which contributes to burnout, especially if you don’t clear the fractals on the first try. Adding a tier 3 daily recommended is not out of the question however.

It is going to be a single fractal, not two like the other ep 1 fractals.
Mechanically and story wise it is almost nothing like the original. You will get tinges of nostalgia but we very much wanted this to be a completely unique experience for both players who played the original and new players. The prime focus is on the encounters and the combat, so expect some fun challenges

For the past few weeks I’ve been working on the collections for Sunrise. Aside from a few fractals I only need this JP, wich I can’t finish by any means. So if you can find it in your heart the time and will to give me a port I would really appreciate.

Hello, I recently came across this thread and thought I would take a chance! I would like to request two items that are available on the BLTC but are more than I can afford based on how often I can play and principle. I do not expect anyone to buy it(them) for me. I am appealing to anyone who already has one.
The gold I manage to earn, I exchange for gems when I can to purchase practical things like bank tabs, storage expanders, permanent gathering tools, with a few fun (affordable) items.
I wasn’t playing when these items were available to earn them myself. I even placed an offer I could afford (without cringing) in the BLTC on one of them, but four months later it hasn’t been accepted.
I would happily try to earn these items myself if I thought it wouldn’t take years.

Hey Ms (Mrs?) Reid, just wanna say first off I’m a big fan of your work, I really like the gw2 raids and I’m looking forward to more.
You talk here about how you have intro-style encounters like STK (I assume that is Siege The Keep). I totally agree that the game should have them, I actually thought Vale Guardian was overtuned not because I found it difficult but I felt that as the first raid boss, it should serve as an introduction to how raiding works as a whole. Mechanically, it does that fantastically, it just feels a bit much for a first time group to me.
Anyway I wanted to pitch in a little on this. Clearly the easiest encounters right now are the bandit trio and siege the stronghold. I’ve no problem with the design of these encounters, nor with having encounters of this level of difficulty (as long as it’s not the only level of difficulty!). I do however think that perhaps the fights that are supposed to serve as introductions to raiding should take a more traditional boss approach rather than these kinda out-there designs. Something more akin to Gorseval, Sabetha, Keep Construct or Vale Guardian just tuned to be easier and more forgiving seems like it would be a much better introduction to raiding to me (and preferably it should be the first boss so it’s easy to access). I just don’t think there is a whole lot you can take away from an encounter like Siege The Stronghold that you can then apply to Gorseval, beyond perhaps the general concept of having specific role in a fight.
The next release won’t have an event style boss like STK or Trio. Not saying we’ll never do them again, it just didn’t fit in the next release.
This issue was solved through the normal ticket system. We remind forum members that following up on tickets is allowed only in the Tickets for Review thread, and not through individual threads. Thanks for understanding.
How is it a massive update affecting gameplay? You get a 3 hour window to log off at your convenience and you are no longer forced out when you zone or switch character.
Given it took just a few mins to fully update and it was listed as a maintenance build (common in any MMO), I’m not entirely understanding what the issue is. I went to make a cuppa and it was done on return.

As to the update, it was, as the notes said, a maintenance update. It didn’t change anything within the game, although yes, the download was large. But I believe it was maintenance on the update system itself. The update really was exactly what the notes explained, and any changes to the game would have been mentioned within the notes.
This comes up a lot so I’m going to jump in quickly since it’s a new post.
Tier systems for Raids come up a lot as a result of what Fractals did. I worked on the original Fractals team and a tiered system with increased difficulty scaling was always part of the original plan for that team. It was never a plan for Raids. They are, and should remain, the most difficult content in the game.
Accessibility in terms of difficulty is something we talk a lot about internally. We’ve made efforts to help players get in by delivering entry level encounters that ease you into the content (STK) and you’ll see more of that in the next release. You’ll still see encounters that live up to previous raid expectations for mid tier and final bosses. And if you think Matthias is a chump then we have something for you as well.
Accessibility in terms of “Hey, my 5 man Fractal group wants to try raids, but we can’t find 5 other players!” is also something we talk about. It’s just a much more difficult problem to solve.
Maintenance
I reported a ticket straight away yesterday. I’ve got no response and the gems didn’t appear on their own either. ticket ID: 2438203
It can take 72 hours for a response during non-peak periods. Given the DDoS attack last night, it might take longer. If you haven’t heard after 72, post a brief note along with your ticket number in the thread designed for the purpose:

Nothing you have to apologize for. DDoS attacks are a mess to deal with for any company. So it’s not like it’s your guys’ fault. Just hopefully whatever person or group is doing this is either stopped or gets bored soon.

We’ve noticed connection issues again and are investigating.
Our network team has continued to track this issue, and at the present time, all systems are working properly. As you will be aware, this issue arose due to a DDOS attack, and it continued in that vein for many hours. We’ll continue to monitor and work on this issue should it arise again. In the meantime, our thanks to everyone for your reports and for your patience during what has been a very trying time!
As you can see in later posts in this thread, items, gems, gold, titles — anything that was missing — reappeared after a relatively short while. We’re sorry for the connectivity issues, and for the startling effect of seeing something is missing, but we’re happy that everything synchs up and you get what you should have. Not sure if this is related, but I lost all of my gems. I had around 2440, I think.
Oh, I’m glad you brought that up (but of course not glad that happened). What I have learned from other players is that when they waited a bit, they got back the things they were missing. (I read this about achievements, titles, etc.) So I would give it a few hours of stability and if you still have issues, then do write Customer Support and they’ll do their best to help you.

I’m making this post and merging threads into it. All of the separate threads talk about missing something after today’s outage(s). Things you should know:
One player expressed his opinion that it can take a while for the UI to catch up with the game content after an outage. He suggested waiting a bit before worrying about something that appears to be missing. I agree!
If you continue to have something missing after waiting at least an hour after uninterrupted game access, please contact Customer Support for assistance.

I wanted to be sure to answer your concern (in the first paragraph). Your post was removed because, as you’ll recall, you posted an image containing personally-identifiable information. When you deleted your initial post, you essentially “closed” the thread, and the moderators removed it entirely because it had no initial post. So please rest assured — and I’m sure subsequent responses made this clear — we weren’t attempting to silence you but simply doing some necessary clean up on a “blank” thread.

The Gem Store and the sales site are entirely different, and promotions are offered at different times. The current promotion is for new players. Gem Store promotions appear on the loading screen and may also be viewed by clicking “O” in the game.
Thanks for letting us know about this situation. We inadvertently blocked access to Guild Wars 2 from a few countries, have adjusted it, and you should find that you are able to log in now. We apologize for the inconvenience.

Neither type of thread is helpful, neither is going to get its intended outcome, and most usually inspire a lot of debates, arguments, insults, and other negative back-and-forth.
I’m closing this one and we’re going to let forum members know to avoid making such threads in the future.

Yep, that’s right. While we know the whole world doesn’t celebrate Thanksgiving it does impact the studio, so Monday seems just the right day to roll this episode. And really, having a 4-day weekend will allow us studio folks to play even more!
