Staff Impersonation

We try to keep the list of reportable actions as small as possible, to make it quick and easy to make a report. Because staff impersonation is pretty rare, we don’t include it on the list. It definitely is something we take seriously, as it can have major consequences, and the person involved needs to be handled as quickly as possible to prevent negative impact on a player or players.

I would not use the in-game report system for this sort of issue, because there is no in-system way to tell agents why someone is being reported. Better: Submit a ticket and include:

  • Date
  • Time and Time Zone
  • Exact spelling of the character you believe is involved in impersonation
  • Brief description of what took place

Impersonation can be a really bad thing. So please do report if you have evidence that it has taken place. Even if you just suspect something wrong is going on, it does not hurt to submit the details, so that CS can review and see if the person involved needs to be actioned or removed from the game.

Thanks for helping us with this.

Hiya,

We’re looking for a majority for the trial step. The permanence vote will require super majority.

If the trial vote passes, the entirety of season 5 will be solo/duo.

Hi Josh

Will the matchmaker take into account so that you don’t get a 2,2,1 team vs a full solo 1,1,1,1,1 team? (move the second duo to the other team).

The system already attempts to do this for every match created and will continue to do so.

I’m really glad we’re talking about this poll before it goes live so we have an opportunity to talk through things together.

Folks have been asking for us to bring back solo/duo queue since it was removed some years ago. There is a perception that matches are skewed due to the dynamic nature of the queue and the possibility that a team of 3+ can face solos or duos. Regardless of how often this actually occurs, it is somewhat true that q’ing as a premade will allow you to climb in leagues more quickly than those who are solo/duo, especially in higher tiers. Solo/duo only would ensure that advantage is no longer possible and make leagues more competitive across the board.

The first poll will ask “do you want to trial solo/duo queue in season 5?” and will require a majority vote. If that passes, the second poll will ask, “Do you want to make solo/duo queue a permanent feature?” and will require a supermajority (75%). In the scenario that Season 5 as solo/duo goes well and the community decides to keep it long-term, the PvP team will look at ways to accommodate competitive team-based play.

That said, solo/duo queue is a small part of the overhaul we’re doing for leagues – there will be other improvements to matchmaking, how we measure and display skill, and how you earn rewards.

Personally, I think solo/duo queue would be pretty fun, and I think it’s worth giving it a shot. Worst case scenario, you can always vote “no” in the follow-up poll and things will go back to the way they are now.

I updated my comments to explain how to report in-game chat (with a definition of channels) and to explain how to report emote abuse. Thanks for asking about both things.

The use of emotes is not a problem. But if they are being abused — if they are being used in an attempt to inject unacceptable comments into the game — the CS Team would like to know about it so that they can review and take the appropriate action.

Thanks.

Yes, this is true. If you find the content offensive, not because you don’t like any roleplaying, but because a certain segment of roleplaying is crossing the line into sexually-related content, abusive chat, truly “offensive” content in the standard definition of the word, then use the in-game report system, please, and the team will review.

How do we use the in game report system for /me?

You’d have to run around the area to find where the player is, then right-click their character and select the report option. For explicit/offensive chat, verbal abuse should be the correct category.

For something that appears in the chat screen there’s no need to find the player. You simply right click the name in the chat window, and report. This would include: Guild, Say, Map, Party, Squad, Team, and Whisper.

For emotes, you would need to submit a ticket, but the team is prepared to review those concerns if you provide the following:

  • Date
  • Time and time zone
  • Name of character (or your own character’s name, so they can pull chat around you)
  • Description of your concern

That list too me longer to write than it would take you to report, so it’s really not a hard thing to do, and we’d really like to address issues of emote abuse, to keep the game pleasant for everyone.

Thanks.

Hi all,

I’d like to take a moment to address some of the concerns posted since last Friday regarding the possibility of solo/duo queue.

The poll we’ll be running this week will simply ask if we should trial a solo/duo queue system during season 5. Assuming the poll passes and Season 5 is solo/duo only, we’ll monitor feedback throughout the season and then run another poll at the end of S5 to ask folks if they’d like to see the change become permanent.

“But Josh, what about people that like to queue as premades, do guild missions, etc?” An overwhelming majority of players already play as solo/duo in leagues, but that doesn’t mean we’re not thinking about the groups and the guilds. That said, unranked arena will continue to accommodate roster sizes of up to 5. Guild missions will still be able to be completed in unranked arena. Assuming the post-season 5 permanence poll passes, we’ll evaluate the need for another environment where teams can compete (based on your feedback).

Hopefully that answers some of your questions!

How big a majority will the solo/duo queue need to have to get voted in? Can I asssume that it will need 75%+ to pass like the WvW polls?

And does “trial” mean that if the solo/duo queue get’s voted only this system will be played throughout the complete season 5 no matter what?

I’d like to know that just to be clear.

Hiya,

We’re looking for a majority for the trial step. The permanence vote will require super majority.

If the trial vote passes, the entirety of season 5 will be solo/duo.

Hey Pope,

Thank you for the report. We’re looking into a fix that allows Fion to sell those in bulk (guild decorations are not allowed to be sold in bulk, despite the option being visible on the vendor). For now, double check your inventory for the Fragments of Solid Ocean as sometimes the extras go into your inventory, rather than into your guild’s storage when the bulk purchase wasn’t disabled for the decoration.

Also, it appears the chunk of the solid ocean decoration is skipping the assembly and going straight to storage (as are all the introduced fractal decorations). We’re investigating the shenanigans now.

In regards to potentially being charged for decorations but not getting them, you can try to contact CS and they may be able to help (though I cannot promise that). No ETA on fixes for the bugs at this time.

A message from the PvP Team:

Hi all,

Now that Season 4 has come to an end, we wanted to take a brief moment to update you on a few items.

First, we wanted to let you know that the off-season between Seasons 4 and 5 will be longer than previous seasons. We’re working on some significant changes to the league system and we decided that we’d rather wait until the league changes are ready to ship before starting the next season of PvP. We haven’t completed our internal “is it ready to ship?” checklist, so we can’t dive into the specific changes or give the start date for Season 5, but you can read-up on what we’re hoping to address in this post. We’ll be giving you a full run-down of the changes prior to release.

Second, in the next few weeks we’ll be running a poll that asks if you’d like to see PvP Leagues switch to a solo/duo queue only system, rather than allowing rosters of any size (1 through 5 players). This is potentially a very big change for PvP, so we wanted to get it on your radar ahead of time so you can ruminate, discuss it together now, and then share your opinion on the poll when it is available.

Third, many of you have asked and we wanted to confirm: the next balance update will ship this month.

Fourth, AcademyGaming will be hosting the return of Tournament of Legends in early November. More information will be released on this soon, but the short of it is that anyone can sign up (first come, first served) and earn rewards such as legendary weapons, precursors, and legendary crafting mats. We wanted to let you know ahead of time so you can start creating your teams and such.

Finally, anyone who hit Legendary in Season 4 is still owed the “Indomitable Legend” title. We’ll be distributing this title via in-game mail once we have a compiled a full list of those who earned it. There’s no action needed on your part other than keeping an eye on your in-game mailbox. We’ll post on the forums once we’ve sent the titles out.

Thanks!

Update on the Economy

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: John Smith.4610

Previous

John Smith.4610

Next

Hello everyone, I’m John Smith, the Studio Economist for ArenaNet. We’ve kept pretty silent about the economy recently, but today I’m here to talk about our current strategy.

Guild Wars 2 has an amazing economy, one of the largest and most active in-game economies ever created. ArenaNet takes pride in offering players an ever-changing world that lives and grows with them. As the game develops, the economy must develop as well, and that’s one of the many reasons we’ve made hundreds of changes to economy balance throughout the lifetime of the game.

For the most part the continuous monitoring and balancing has led to an incredibly stable economy with sustainable growth and reasonable inflation levels. However, we’ve noticed a disturbing side-effect of that continuous balancing: For many markets we’ve accidently set the idea of a price, rather than the market setting the idea of a price. Flax is a great example of a market where the prices weren’t really reflective of input or demand, but rather the idea of a value. Eventually players recognized that there was an abundance of flax and the price began to trend in a positive direction. We’ve noticed that a large number of markets are exhibiting this behavior in both directions—resulting in their being underpriced or overpriced—and their prices no longer reflect the average wealth or income of players.

To address this, we’re taking a step back from the standard amount of economy balancing we’re doing; in fact, we’ve actually already started doing that. We hope to see many markets adjust their prices to match the current state of the economy. We do recognize that there are some markets moving to a place where we aren’t looking for them to be; once we see the economy moving we can reassess the markets and make improvements, as we have in the past.

Glicko Temporary Manual Adjustments 10/7

We are going to make several temporary Glicko rating adjustments for tomorrow’s resets.

Northern Shiverpeaks: +150
Northern Shiverpeaks has been leading tier 4 for the past several weeks and we believe that moving them to tier 3 will create more competitive matches for tier 4 and tier 3. This adjustment will give Northern Shiverpeaks ~72% to move to tier 3 and ~28% to move to tier 2.

Dragonbrand: -150
Dragonbrand is not very competitive at tier 3 and we believe moving them to tier 4 will give them a better chance at being competitive. This adjustment will give Dragonbrand ~83% to move to tier 4 and ~17% to stay in tier 3.

Yak’s Bend: replace +150 with +75
We believe the +150 adjustment to Yak’s Bends is now too high. They still need a slight adjustment to remain in tier 1 where they are competitive so we believe adjusting it to be +75 is more balanced. This adjustment will give Yak’s Bend ~64% to stay in tier 1 and ~36% to move to tier 2.

We evaluated EU matchups as well. Riverside, Drakkar Lake, Jade Sea, and Vizunah Square are the worlds that could be adjusted for potentially more competitive matchups. However, those worlds have good enough odds to move on reset without any adjustments so we decided to not make any temporary adjustments for EU at this time.

I want to thank again Dash for leading this fantastic project.

More importantly, and as a few said before, we need to counter the perception that editing the wiki is difficult. You should not be afraid to contribute, the same way that you should be ashamed that you do not all the things involved in the wiki or be afraid that someone would react to your edits. The wiki truly is a collaborative website where everyone has its say and role. Some editors take care of removing typos and correcting English, some focus on the formatting, others go deeper into the code. And the bulk of the editors simply add information, and then other editors adapt, format and sometimes correct it. You also don’t need to spend a lot of time (although the wiki community would love to have you ), for example we’ve introduced a new “Leave Article Feedback” tab where you can just leave the information as is, so that other editors can use it!

Guess the offer is only for the english wiki?!

Can I ask what language wiki you’re from, if you don’t mind?

Much too complex.

I was under the impression the ‘Leave Feedback’ tab was introduced to make it easier for those unschooled in the more complex aspects of Wiki editing. Hopefully, we won’t be discouraged from using it.

Absolutely not, you should continue to use the Leave Feedback feature if you’re already using it. I’ve heard that it brings a good amount of information to the English wiki and it’s valuable. That being said, Dash’s project is his own and manages it as he sees fit.

Goodness knows I flub things from time to time, particularly since the editing system on wiki is different from, say, the forums or normal documents. However, even when I misplace a quote or insert an wildly-rampant bullet point, another wiki contributor has quietly corrected what I flubbed and it’s all good.

Something MUST be done about the RP in DR

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

I was never bothered by the content, just that I couldn’t read any /guild or /map chat due to the volumes of text spewing from a small fraction of the RPers.

This is the issue for me over what I see being said. I appreciate Penelope clarifying that not all RPers are inappropriate with what they say but boy, on NA we have some doozies who are; including some who don’t actually become explicit, but are… discomforting without being graphic. On my years on the internet, I have come across people who are serious about some incredibly explicit/inappropriate roleplaying and some who will do it in public, not just to troll. Whether the people I’ve seen doing it in NA DR are trolling or not is not for me to judge and the only people who will truly know are those people. Such is the nature of RPing, as I’m sure a lot of people are aware.

I’ve played my fair share of D&D over the years so honestly, I have no issue with roleplaying. Just having to change my chat options (which due to personal health reasons I can’t always remember to change back immediately) because of walls of text that are currently not supported properly by the game which interfere with what I and others are doing. The walls of text are where I think the ‘spam’ definition has some weight.

No one’s honestly saying RPers should gtho of DR (well, some people might really feel that way), just that we’d like ANet to give RPers proper integration into the game so they’re not so heavily ostracised or seen as a nuisance. The RP section being added to LFG was a great start but I think everyone can agree that there’s more that could and should be done for everyone to co-exist more harmoniously.

As for RP chat range, maybe that could be the same radius as Say chat? Also if people trolled RP chat, it’d be easier for GMs to understand the context of a report as it would be clear it was targeted harassment towards a group of players as they’d have to be typing in RP chat to do so, instead of trying to claim that they’re responding to someone else in the channels we have now. I don’t know, I don’t get why a channel dedicated to RP would be a bad thing as in my eyes it would actually give RPing more legitimacy than the current form of co-opting emotes with large walls of text, and could by extension clear up a lot of issues that people have with RPers.

Very helpful, and thank you so much for helping with these useful suggestions. I have my chat windows separated differently, but I think you setup is great, too!

The thing I want to emphasize is that rather than ostracizing someone or a group of players, why not look for a means to allow everyone to participate in our game on a level playing field? Rather than limiting, refine! Organize your UI and I believe you will see improvements in your experience on several levels.

On the other hand, if what some of the comments referenced above is happening in All Chat or in the wide range of emotes, then it should be reported, if only for a reality check by an impartial agent.

ERP can be reported. If it’s especially… graphic, then create a support ticket and include screenshots of the dialogue.

Yes, this is true. If you find the content offensive, not because you don’t like any roleplaying, but because a certain segment of roleplaying is crossing the line into sexually-related content, abusive chat, truly “offensive” content in the standard definition of the word, then use the in-game report system, please, and the team will review.

48.6% – No

Since “Yes” did not receive the required 75% of the vote, we will not be adding repair hammers to the game. Thank you to everyone who voted!

Hey there,

The name is blocked for a security reason having to do with the prevention of someone designating themselves as a “GM.” (Separate “G” and separate “M” posed impersonation and abuse problems in the past, so we simply disallowed those two letters when used independently, and of course “GM” as well.) I believe there would be no objection to Hughg or another use that did not involve a self-standing letter “G.” Other forum members have made some viable suggestions for you, as well.

What the agent responding to your ticket intended for you to do — and I admit the response was not clearly written — was to suggest that if you felt the name filter had an issue you could give your feedback on that.

The forums are not intended as a place to protest, debate, or appeal CS decisions. The CS team is not the place to go to request renaming, as you did.

Now that you better understand the situation, I’ll close this thread.

Maybe this is the legend titles being handed out?

It is not. We’re still working on that compiling the list. Soon™.

This maintenance allows our server team to apply some needed updates to PvP servers.

To address the OP: there will be an off-season balance patch – it just won’t happen this week. Sorry for the confusion!

We wanted to clear up some of the information in this thread.

The Battlegroup system mentioned in a previous post in this thread was part of an old discussion with alpha testers which then was leaked by someone who no longer is in the program. In the past, we would propose systems/ideas to our alpha testers to help gauge player opinion. However, as you know, the WvW Team since has moved to posting these discussions on the official forums.

For further information, the response of the alpha testers to the Battlegroup concept was very mixed, similar to the responses in this thread. Additionally, it would also have been a huge undertaking to build that system, and we ultimately decided it wasn’t the correct route to go.

In contrast, World Linking utilized a lot of existing tech and required considerably less time to construct, meaning we could move on to addressing other core issues in WvW much more quickly. Even though there is a lot of debate around World Linking, it is “easier” to change and adjust unlike other systems that have been discussed. With all that being said, the team does appreciate the feedback and discussion happening in this thread and will continue to evaluate World Linking feedback and make adjustments as necessary.

As has been mentioned several times in the past, the way this thread works best and most fairly is:

  • Make you requests reasonable
  • Update your post when you receive a requested item or items; You can update for each component if you asked for more than one to keep things current
  • Do not make duplicate requests. That is, request one item, and only one item. Do not make a new thread asking for something else. Do not edit your post to change to a new request.

Guys, let’s keep discussion to a minimum, to allow a quick review of the current offerings, ok?

Yes, we stickied this. Yes, it’s intended to help those who are not able to see the in-game store. It’s all good.
