no, this kind of behaviour is not encouraged as it is clearly not fair for the other players. Therefore we would ask you to report this kind of behaviour through the ticketing system to Customer Support; just provide screenshots and specific information about the instance you were in, what time it was, names and so on, so they have the whole picture about the situation.

This seems like the most appropriate thread for this issue.

In addition to the teleporting nodehack bots, I’ve been seeing a lot of bots which log out the moment a player gets too close. I was able to trap one where every time it logged in, it logged right back out due to my presence. It appears that they log out as soon as a player gets within targeting range – meaning that they can sometimes be visible at a distance, but not targetable to right-click and report. You can’t access their player portraits either.

Amusingly enough, when they attempt to log back in, they detect players in proximity before they even visibly display in the world – you’ll see their bears pop into existence, and then vanish almost immediately, but you never see the player.

@CC Eva and/or any other ANet representatives – Any tips on how to report this one? The standard reporting feature is unusable in this case, and screenshots are equally problematic.

Blueshield, thanks for bringing this to our attention. I am pretty sure that the team already knows about this kind of bots but I will proceed to forward this info today in any case, to assure that it reaches them. I would just ask you to keep on trying to report them using the already existing tools, whenever this is possible (I know it isn´t).

Jeckcrow, it is true that we do not have a specific report tab for this kind of behaviour but of course we do encourage the players to report these attitudes, as they do not bring anything good to the community. All incidents of in-game harassment should be reported to our Customer Support team using the in-game ticketing system. Just like we don’t permanently ban anyone on the forums for first time offences, the same goes in-game. The more you report, the better the game world will be.

Thanks for your reply. Temporarily disabling AVG does actually fix the issue, so my next question is do you know which settings need to be tweaked? I never had an issue before, and I haven’t changed my AVG settings, so I have no idea which settings to change.

It’s very difficult to know how third party software may affect your access to the game. All I can suggest is to look for settings that may act as a firewall that could block some internet access points or effect the way browsers operate (think security settings, pop-up blockers, etc.), since the Trading Post effectively functions as a browser.

Again if you do discover the exact thing that fixes it, please share as others may have also encountered this issue and your fix could work for them too!

“Extended unattended play” means using a bot, that is, having the bot program “play” the game while you’re sleeping, at school or work, away from the computer, etc.

There is some pretty sophisticated tracking programming to detect this, and two false positives is very unusual, but rest assured that Support Team will research this one thoroughly and make the proper decision about how to deal with the flags that this account is raising.

By the way, it doesn’t take a lot of “tech savvy” to run a bot. It only takes the will to make undeserved gains and the willingness to breach the User Agreement, to cheat. I am not at all saying your cousin did that, but while creating a bot may take technological knowledge, and programming anti-bot software takes a great deal of sophisticated knowledge, running a bot generally takes neither.

Unable to buy anything from SEARCH result.

Suppose you input Plush Griffon Tonic and Hit Search button.
You get the result and can go through the pages.
But the cursor keeps showing as a spining wheel and you can’t buy anything. You can select an item but double-clicking would never work. This will continue forever, like a forever “Loading….” situation in old times browsers.

Retried it several times and same result.
Looks like this happens much more frequently at peak hours.

There is a known issue where this happens when you use you keyboard arrow + Enter to highlight the item in the autofill list and execute the search. Does this still happen if you type out the entire name and search or use your mouse to select the item in the autofill list?

Nothing has changed on my end…I have not changed my browser settings or firewall, so I have no idea what could have happened. I looked back through the forums and tried to follow some suggested fixes, but none of them seem to apply to my version of Windows (XP), or my version of AVG (free).

- my version of AVG does NOT have a “firewall log” under history
- when I right click on “awesomium_process.exe” I CANNOT select Open File Location
- when I go into gw2.exe properties there is NO option that says “Run this program as an administrator”

If you’re on XP, everything is run as Administrator, so this is not an issue and also why you don’t see that option.

I do recommend least temporarily disabling your antivirus software and see if that helps the issue. If that does not help, then you know you can eliminate that as a factor, but if it does fix the problem, then you can tweak your individual AVG settings and see which one could be interfering.

Changed the “Toypocalypse Cancelled” achievement so that only one gift dolyak needs to survive the activity instead of all five.
Fixed an issue that prevented Pop Guns from playing the correct audio and visual effects.

@ Mesmer: We’ll be addressing the current Mesmer build that’s spiking for insane damage. Sorry that change got through – it is something we’ll be fixing.

@ Macros: Macros are against the user agreement. You can be banned for using them, so use them at your own risk. I would also advise against using them, because in live tournaments, you won’t be able to use macros. So it makes little sense to learn “bad habbits” you’ll just have to retrain later.

We adhere to the same “one keystroke = one action on one character/account”, which is used by a lot of MMO publishers when defining botting/macros.

Just wanted to clear that up – be careful w/ those macros, they can get you banned.

This is not the case and we don’t think that the randomness mechanism is misbehaving, but we’re running some data to be sure there isn’t anything unexpected going on. So far nothing shows anything suspicious but we’ll keep gathering data and analyzing it. Hi everyone,

The statistics reported on the wiki pages for the Wintersday Mystery Box drop rates are incorrect, due to the method being used for calculating them. Some of our item packages use more than one loot table to determine what you get from opening them. Whenever you open a Wintersday Mystery Box, it randomly drops items selected from 2 tables, each having specific items and their own drop rates.

We’ve seen people mention the low drop rates of Foostivoo from Wintersday Mystery Box and would like to remind people that the primary way to obtain this miniature is from the Mystic Forge, by combining other minis (wiki link).

First, I’m glad that you are not asking about the HoM because, as you noted, by merging with your brother’s account, you have permanently lost your own Hall of Monuments. That is to say, we cannot remove the HoM from the one account and link it to a second.

It’s great that you want to join Guild Wars 2. I think you’ll love it! To do that, though, you will need to use a completely new email address for your account, that it cannot be the old address for Guild Wars because that one is linked to the GW2 account that your brother is playing. You’re welcome to contact Support for more details but I think you’ll want your own new everything, to keep things tidy and separate.

The fact that we do not offer wide-spread phone support is not related to costs so much as efficiency. We have agents working around the clock, 24/7/365. It wouldn’t be feasible to offer phone support on that same level from both a cost standpoint as well as a use standpoint. (The volume of calls falls off at 5:00 AM. )

The efficiency point I’m trying to make is that you can submit a ticket at any time and it will be read, escalated, reviewed, referred, queued — whatever it requires — more quickly than a single phone call would allow. Plus, we found that where we could address an issue in X minutes via a ticket, it took two to three times that long on a phone call.

Having said all that, I do hope that we will be able to offer phone support. I believe that having more ways for our players to reach us would be a very good thing, and I have brought this up and advocated for it on a regular basis. We will see what the future holds, but I know that offering live chat or telephone support is definitely not “off the table” as far as each being a possible future support option.

How were they killed? I checked the spawns, and none of them are set to “No XP” but if they’re killed by destroying the ice shield or the dragon, it might not be awarding XP for the creature.

Do you have “Fast cast ground targeting” turned on in options? If so, it’s trying to use the mouse cursor to place the target, and it might be over an object that’s out of range.

As a side note, some siege weapons require a slight charge before firing, or they will try to fire a shot at range 0, which causes this deceptive error message.

Also, please include the story step name in any bug reports. There are several L80 story steps (and more than one with Zott) so I don’t know which specific story step you’re referring to.

I will try to keep this as short as possible. On 12/18/12 at about 1700 hours EST, I was playing in Honor of the Waves with a guildmate when without warning my screen went white, I was logged out, and on trying to log back into the game, was told my account was permanently banned for botting, 3rd party programming, extended unattended play (?), macros or something similar to these accusations. My account has since been restored, and for that, I am truly appreciative.

I have a concern and a question. My concern is that for some reason, my account was fraudulently terminated for behavior which I have never and will never engage in. I was not given a warning, contacted by a GM in game (this SHOULD be done in cases where it’s suspected an account is being automated) or anything similar to let me know something was wrong. As far as I can tell, my account was not hacked. Nothing was missing on return, no characters deleted, and I logged in where I was kicked out. Since the reopened account, I have changed passwords for the game, my email account, and added the mobile authenticator as instructed. This leads to my question. What was it that caused my account to be not only suspected of botting, but ultimately banned because of it? I don’t know if it was a behavior of mine, an account login issue, nothing. I would like to keep this from happening again, and would love to hear from someone regarding the matter. If I need to resubmit a question (which I know would be low priority), I am happy to do so, as long as I can get an answer to the question.

We are not able to tell you what flagged the account. That would be a very bad thing to do, as it would give all the would-be cheaters, exploiters, and RMT workers a “blueprint to cheat.” If we say “We thought you were doing X, Y, and Z,” then those writing bot code, or hiring people to farm the game and sell gold will simply stop doing those things.

Given that there are more than 2 million accounts, the number of false positives — that is, erroneously flagged for botting or another form of cheating — is very, very low. Yes, you see them in the forums, but they are individual issues that may give a perception of a larger issue than what really exists.

My basic advice is to continue to play the game legitimately and, if your account is flagged again (which is highly unlikely), to work with the Support Team to diagnose the issue at that time.

As an example, just last night in Blazeridge Steppes, near Monument Grounds, a friend an I were clearing to the vista point when we ran into a mob that would not stay dead. Literally seconds after we killed it, it respawned. Just a normal generic ascalonian ghost mob, not a champ or veteran, and it didn’t take us long to kill (certainly not 90-120 seconds), and it respawned 3 cycles in a row within seconds of killing it. We eventually just killed it and immediately ran out of aggro range so we wouldn’t be stuck there (and yes, I watched as it respawned yet again).

I just checked all the ghost spawns in the map, and this particular area, and they’re all using the default respawn times. (95-120). So my above comment applies: is it possible that a ghost was killed nearby, and happened to respawn near your location?

I really encourage you to contact Support by filing a ticket through the “Ask a Question” tab on that linked page. They will be able to assist you or at least answer the question about releasing the account.
