Edited to add: OK just went on and looked through pages. For some reason I was under the impression that items would be listed on date they sold, not date posted. It explains some confusion on my end to the mysterious amounts of money coming in, and no idea what has sold. Is there any way to create a filter on the black lion to allow us to put in order of date sold, not date posted? Just easier to keep track of stuff that way if you can see your most recent sales, rather than having to scan through pages.

Glad that helped! There isn’t a way to filter or sort transaction history right now, but it’s a good suggestion, and I’ll pass it on. Thanks!

They’re working on the ART (Account Restoration Tool). By the time it goes live, it will only be able to help those people hacked moving forward. Gaile has confirmed this in the Account Issues forum repeatedly. This is a major priority for them, and although it is a huge labor cost and development time cost, they are doing this to help people like you. So don’t think you have to rally the armies against ANet or some such; they’ve already heard, and are already well underway with the solution.

That said, it doesn’t matter what you do in real life. Passwords can and will be cracked. No matter what you say, your security measures were at fault here. If there were a security breach of ANet even insofar as a single account could be stolen from their databases, they are bound by law to come out and tell us. As such a statement has not been made, I am confident that your claim that “it must have come from the GW2 site” is illegitimate.

Furthermore, the hacker got into both your email address and your GW2 account. The only way he could achieve both is if you had poor security measures on both, reused passwords, used simple passwords, have a keylogger, accidentally logged into some phishing website designed to look like the GW2 website (I’ve seen some fancy ones), or so forth. The best thing you can do is change all of your passwords, change your email address if you can, and be more careful moving forward. Good luck.

I am very sorry for what happened to you, VincentBalmont, and I’m so happy that we will be rolling out the ART in very short order. I know that this may not seem a comfort to you, but development and testing continue and we will get that tool into the hands of our CS Agents as soon as possible.

I think RisingDusk expressed things very well. The hacking of your email account and your game account points fully away from Guild Wars 2 as the source of the compromise. The fact that we don’t have tens of thousands of incidents points away from Guild Wars 2 as the source of the issue. The fact that our Security Team (we actually have more than one team focused on security) confirms that there is not an issue with game or server security also points away from Guild Wars 2 as the source of the issue.

Again, I truly do sympathize with the fact that you were hacked, but out of fairness to the company, I feel it’s responsible for me to point out that the theories that point to ArenaNet or Guild Wars 2 as the source of the problem are simply not accurate.

He just checked his bank records and found out that he was charged twice for his original purchase and then later refunded twice without any notifications made to him. Does he lose his entire account over this mistake or is there some way he can get his account back after buying the game again? Thanks.

Apparently this person had failed to pass anti-fraud measures. This could be for a lot of reasons, but fraud prevention is a very critical part of doing business, and we will decline purchases that appear questionable. Your friend should discuss the issue with Support to learn if the account can be released to him to add a code. Sometimes, the only code that will be acceptable is a retail (box) code, so if that is an option, he should ask about that possibility when discussing with Support.

Hi Havana – Just to be safe I would backup your GW2.dat file from your original client, although it does sound like the registry was overwritten and so I would not recommend uninstalling Guild Wars 2 through the Control Panel.

When you contact Technical Support you will probably be asked for a few diagnostic reports: Game Advisor report (NCSOFT in house tool, basically a glorified DxDiag), Network Diagnostic report (ports and traceroutes are shown more accurately here than in the Game Advisor report), and a PingPlotter report (third-party application that cannot be attached in the forums but illustrates latency, packetloss, and ping very nicely).

These reports will show us not only any issues on your end with your connection (if existent) but on our end as well.

EDIT: To clarify, we do NOT want players paying for PingPlotter. There is the “Standard” version that is free that we ask players to run.

Hi SgtSarcasm – Thanks for the reports. Your pathping looks pretty good overall, just some minimal packet loss. And so I would like to rule out the possibility that there is another program interfering with the game connection. To do this, we use a Windows command called “MSCONFIG.”

Please note, this command will not uninstall any applications from your computer. All MSCONFIG does is prevent these applications from automatically starting when Windows boots up.

To do this:

1. Press and hold the Windows key and then hit the R key. This should bring up the Run dialog box.

2. Type “MSCONFIG” without the quotes, and click “OK.” This should open the System Configuration Utility.

3. Click on the “Services” tab and check the “Hide All Microsoft Services” check box near the bottom, then click the “Disable All” button. (You MUST click “Hide all Microsoft Services”)

4. Next go to the “Startup” tab and click the “Disable All” button.

5. Once these items are all disabled, click the “OK” button and you will get a prompt to restart your computer. Please restart your computer.

6. Once you return to Windows, please try connecting to the game again.

To reverse these settings, simply run MSCONFIG again and click “Normal Startup” on the first window labeled “General.”

Note: If you need a specific application to run with Windows but still want to use MSCONFIG, just follow the above instructions and on step 4, re-check any application you feel needs to start with Windows. Examples would be wireless connection software, mouse or keyboard applications or even security applications. Please note that security applications can often be a contributing factor to such issues. Hi Wing,

I would like you to try a new command we just introduced to assist players with these types of issues. To do this:

1. Navigate to your Guild Wars 2 installation folder.

2. Right-click on “GW2.exe” and select “Create Shortcut.”

3. Rename this shortcut to “Guild Wars 2 Port Test.”

4. Right-click on this shortcut and select “Properties.”

5. Edit the “Target” line to include /clientport 80 at the end.

Note: Please make sure /clientport 80 is outside of the quotes

Correctly Formatted Example: “C:\Games\Guild Wars 2\GW2.exe” /clientport 80
Incorrectly Formatted Example: “C:\Games\Guild Wars 2\GW2.exe /clientport 80”

6. Once completed, click “Ok” to save your changes.

If you get an error trying to save, your target line may not have the correct format. Please try step 5 again.

7. Double click “Guild Wars 2 Port Test” and try connecting again.

Hi guys – I can certainly understand your frustration but as this is Technical Support we need to be able to eliminate any possible variables that could be causing this issue. As there are no known issues with the servers at this time, we first need to look at any possible system or connection related issues and gather diagnostic information. With this particular type of issue, I would prefer players to send in a support ticket to our Technical Support team so that we can gather as much information as possible. If there does appear to be an issue on our end, we can then forward this information to our Network Engineers for further investigation.

As this particular error message can be caused from a number of different things, simply going off of players reporting this error without any diagnostic information is not enough for a thorough investigation. I can definitely see that a number of players are experiencing this problem, but if it were a more widespread issue the forums would be blowing up with reports of this error and the cause would be more apparent.

Again, I would highly recommend contacting the NCSOFT Technical Support department for further assistance as this will allow us to much more quickly assist you one on one, and assist us with looking into this issue a little more closely.

This is by design. We cap the frame-rate in non-gameplay views. Previously, on a mid-high end rig, the frame-rate would reach numbers of 500 or higher (I was getting 2300 FPS in Character Select). This would cause your computer hardware to overwork itself, or in some situations, overheat and/or make an extremely obnoxious whining noise.

I believe cinematics, character create/select and loading screens are all hard-capped at your monitor’s native refresh-rate.

Believe me, hearing the deathly sound coming from my video card scared the life out of me.

We’ll have this fixed in an upcoming build in the next day or so. We’ve reverted the change back to not remove Trait line stat boosts. Traits themselves will still remain inactive with these types of transformations (as they always have), but that will be completely fixed in the Wintersday build so we can do proper balance testing on that change.

Interesting. It looks like the Trait “Electric Discharge” is the cause of this. It causes you to attack your target when attuning to Air if you have it slotted. It still fires off the Auto-Attack functionality because Air Attunement is still being considered as a skill that attacks a target (regardless of actually attacking or not).

I’ll take a look at this tomorrow and see what I can come up with. Sorry that nobody has responded to this bug sooner!

Running the game with -windowed will allow you to launch it in windowed mode, overriding any resolution or refresh rate settings.

Additionally you can delete the Local.dat file located in “C:\Users\%username%\Documents\Guild Wars 2” which contains all graphics settings.

There are a couple of unrelated bugs, the skipped content/reversion is specific to an issue that occured the first week or so after ship. There is currently no fix planned for the issue you ran into, since it’s a fairly complex problem with no easy fix. Unfortunately, at this point, the only real option is continuing your story as it is now (with the mis-step.)

As the ArenaNet point of contact for this stream, I’d like to comment on something that was mentioned earlier in this thread.

There were no pre-set questions for this stream. We did have a list of topics that we wanted to make sure to touch on, but this did not include pre-set questions. We did not specify any areas, other than PvE/WvW (for the obvious reason that this interview was geared towards sPvP), which should not be discussed.

This was not a scripted discussion by any means.

What we were hoping to do was answer questions during the live stream that were being asked in the own3D channel. However, due to connection issues, we were not able to do the live stream and therefore did not take questions from the chat.

Anyway, thank you all for taking the time to watch the video and give us feedback. It’s greatly appreciated!

No no .. I’m getting the money ok. I get 1 gold here, 4 gold there… what’s happening is before I used to be able to see what was sold that gave me the money, using the “items I’ve sold” dropdown on the market window. Now, it hardly ever updates, and I have no clue what’s actually sold.

The only indication I had that something was buggy was when a black dye sold for a very specific amount of money (minus the broker fees). Sure enough, when I scrolled through items listed, it wasn’t there anymore, but there was no indication of its sale on my “items sold” list dropdown.

The sold items page is not updating at all. You know how it will show you “sold 1 hour ago” or “sold 24 hours ago” etc? It remains static.

Have you tried going a few pages back in your Items I’ve Sold list? There is an issue we are aware of where sometimes the timestamp will be wrong, particularly if a lot of time passed between the time you listed the item and when it actually sold.

I would strongly suggest buying gem cards from a retailer in your area, and giving those to your friends instead. That is a much safer way to give someone a gift than mailing gold, especially since we would not be able to help you if something went wrong (if you accidentally sent the gold to the wrong player, for example).

How should we classify people who are using teleport/flying hacks? There doesn’t seem to be a proper classification to report them under.

For now you can mark them as “Scamming”. Our security folks assure me they’ll see the report regardless of how it’s marked. Still, we should have an appropriate option in that list. I’ll raise the issue with the appropriate folks about getting an “Exploiting” option added.

If you see a bot anywhere in the game the best possible thing you can do is report it using the in-game report feature. Reporting bots gets them into our system and helps us not only to find and ban them, but also to learn how to better detect them automatically.

So, if you see bots please report them!

I have a question here; How come Mr.Sharp was so eased on saying “we need to do a better job communicating with the players”, but he has yet to agree with the fact that having ranking/matchmaking at launch would have made the ‘state of the game’ much better than where it’s at now?

I spoke of this on Friday, but let me reiterate.

We could have had rankings, but without tournaments or a way to get teams playing against each other in an organized fashion, they would have ranked…..nothing. Just the pub play matches. That’s why we wanted to set down a framework first, then add in the custom arenas (for practicing/developing organized matches) and rankings. Having rankings without tourneys or a matchmaking system literally wouldn’t do anything…you would just have rankings based on random pub matches where teams would be anything from 1-8 players. Seems bad to me. That’s why we made that decision.

Does that make sense?
