Hi all,

In the upcoming Spring 2016 Quarterly Update, we’ll launch the new legendary short bow, Chuka and Champawat. The team outdid themselves on this one. This new precursor journey takes you through a memorable experience inspired by a real-world story, and the bow you craft at the end is the perfect commemoration of that journey. I hope you all check it out.

Last year we talked about plans to gradually build out a second set of legendary weapons through live content updates. That’s a big responsibility. We have a team of six developers working on that, who could work on it for years to come.

As game director I have to make tough trade-offs. One thing I believe is that we have to focus on the core game first before taking on additional responsibilities. I wrote in the Guild Wars 2 Design Manifesto in 2010 that our vision was to create a living, dynamic world, where there’s always something to do. Let’s ensure we succeed on that front.

So, after shipping Chuka and Champawat, I’ve asked that we indefinitely suspend work on new legendary weapons. This team of developers will instead shift their efforts back to Living World style content, building new journeys and events for everyone to participate in.

I know this will be a controversial decision. I’ll hang out with you here on the forums for a little while today to discuss it. And I’m always available by email.

The reason we offer gem cards is that a lot of players asked for them. Gem cards make gifting a game or an item easier, and they work very well for folks who do not have or do not wish to use a credit card. They’re also nice for people who would rather not make on-line purchases, because they can buy the game and gems in a store, instead of on-line.

It’s nice to have options, I think. That’s why our billing providers occasionally adds a new method of payment, such as a new type of credit card.

It was a bug. The team fixed it. Whether someone preferred doing starter content on their Level 80 char or not, it wasn’t intended that the dailies be any more pick-and-choose than the standard listing. Therefore, the bug was corrected.

No matter the content, the series of links, or the fervor, in the end this thread has been transformed into a “We demand an answer” theme.

  • I have relayed the concerns.
  • I have asked the questions.
  • If and when I get information on the subjects at hand, I will update on the forums. Response will not be in a thread about communications, but in a new or existing thread related to a particular subject. As I did with the thread about bunny ears, for instance, or the thread about TP clean-up, or missing miniatures, or lighting issues, or many other recent examples.

With the unfortunate change of tone this thread has taken, the moderation team has recommended to me that we lock this thread. Noting that some of the recent comments have been quite unpleasant and the general tone is no longer constructive, I agree that’s best. We fully understand that players want more information. Many of us keep that in the forefront of our minds on a daily, even hourly, basis and we will share information and updates when we are able to do so.

Hmmm Looking at the screenshot, it looks like a space may have snuck in, in front of log on the command line. If you remove the space between the dash and log (so it looks like “…\gw2.exe -log”) it will hopefully fix it. Also thank you both for already submitting and/or looking into submitting the log for us!

Sorry for the delayed response!

We went with this design due to technical limitations with the nodes and their interactions with the guild upgrade system. Because we wanted to have the nodes in the hall become progressively better as upgrades were purchased and because of how we had to build those nodes, we had to tie the harvest progress to the upgrade.

I hope this helps a bit and thank you guys for asking about it!

Good day!

Unfortunately we’re still working on identifying what is causing so many of you to not be able to see some of the UI in the guild halls. The team has requested a bit more information as we continue to dig.

If those of you who are affected are willing, could you please: launch the game with “-log” on your command line, travel to the guild hall and attempt to look at the Treasury and other affected guild hall user interfaces? And then once you have done this, can you go to your AppData folder and upload the file as an attachment to a response to this thread (it would look like gw2.log).

Grabbing the Log:____________________________

  1. Open the folder containing your exe for Guild Wars 2
  2. Right click on the exe and select the drop down option “Create Shortcut”
  3. On the created shortcut, right click the icon and select the drop down option “Properties”
  4. In the Shortcut tab, look at the field (box) called “Target”
  5. Following the name of the exe, add the text: -log
  6. Hit apply and close the Properties window.
  7. Double click the shortcut and log into Guild Wars 2.
  8. Once you are in game, open the guild panel [g]
  9. Use the “Guild Hall” button to travel to your guild hall.
  10. Talk to the Guild Treasurer npc “Esa the Frugal”
  11. Tab out of or close the game.
  12. Click on the start button
  13. Search for explorer
  14. Go to your AppData folder for the game and find the log file. (It will look something like C:\Users\xxxx\AppData\Roaming\Guild Wars 2\Gw2.log)
  15. Copy the Log file somewhere where you can find it easily.
  16. Make a response to this thread with that file as an attachment.

Once you have done this, it should be safe to remove “-log” from the command (or the shortcut). I’ve included two screenshots that may help in navigation.

Visuals – I honestly didn’t know that Colin had said something about visuals. I’m not being rude, but can you link me to a post? I’d like to follow up and get that information, but it would be marvelous if I had a post or a blog entry where those statements were made. Makes it “fast and easy” to then pursue an answer.

I have followed up, but I don’t have any information yet. Remember that, as Mike O’Brien reiterated recently, we’re are not going to be making a lot of predictive statements. Nor do we want to give dates. Now, I notice that that sort of was a predictive statement made a few weeks ago. But what I’m saying is that while I’ll see if there’s more information to share, this may be a situation where, if changes are made, they roll out without prior announcement.

I guess at this time the most I could say is that this is a known request.

Update: The team is going to do another clean-up of invalid Trading Post buy orders. Most likely this will take place tomorrow, Thursday, March 24. Like last time, this clean-up will be unlikely to impact your account. However, if you had submitted a buy order for an item that no longer is available, your order will be cancelled and all currency involved in the buy order will be returned to you. You will be able to pick up that currency at any Black Lion Trading Company outlet after the cancellation and refund process is completed.

It would be faster on your end to batch calls to /v2/recipes and /v2/items with the ?ids parameter, e.g. /v2/items?ids=1,2,3,4. You can request up to 200 resources at once. Alternatively, you could use /v2/items?page_size=200&page=N to pull all the item data (and /v2/recipes?page_size=200&page=N to pull all the recipe data) and it’d probably be less network overhead.

Ultimately, it doesn’t make that big of a difference performance-wise on our side, so I’m not too concerned about it. If you’re making under 100k requests/day (which comes out to about one request/second) it’s not really a big deal.

Fairly often I see it posted that we didn’t make any changes to WvW or the Desert Borderlands map as a result of our Desert Borderlands stress tests. While it’s totally true that we didn’t attempt to completely overhaul the entire map a month or two before the Expansion shipped (as that was definitely out of scope), we made more than a few changes and bug fixes as a result of the playtesting and feedback from those pre-HoT beta events.

I only have the release notes from the 2nd beta handy (which I’ve posted below), but we made similar numbers of changes after each of the three closed beta events.

With that being said, we understand that there are many issues the community still wants to see addressed with the Desert Borderlands and we are still working to improve the map, as well as our other high priorities like bringing back Alpine, skill balance, improving rewards, and correcting population balance.

General WvW Changes

  • Arrow Carts (all types) now require 10 more supply to build.
  • Supply camps now auto-upgrade faster.
  • Supply depots now are marked on the map.
  • Players can no longer rally off of basic creatures in WvW. Only veteran rank or higher.
  • Objective bosses now have health scaling based on the number of allied and enemy players in the area.
  • Sentries will now mark enemy players on the map for 30 seconds.
  • Keeps will now mark enemy players within their perimeter, for the first 5 minutes, after being flipped.
  • Shield Generators (all types) have had their range reduced.
  • Exotic WvW equipment can now be salvaged. Badge gear yields badges. Tournament ticket gear yields standard exotic salvage materials.

Desert Borderland Changes

  • Skysplitter damage reduced.
  • Skysplitter now attacks all enemy gates, not just outer gates.
  • Fire Keep lord difficulty somewhat reduced
  • Air Keep lord difficulty somewhat increased
  • Tower and Keep guard damage slightly decreased.
  • Some Tower and Keep guards have had their CC durations reduced.
  • Gate guard aggro range increased.
  • Range to activate the Dolyak Protected Caravan buff increased.
  • Certain very large capture points have had their radius reduced.
  • Flame’s Embrace shrine bonus now grants 40% increased movement speed, instead of reducing burning duration. It still also grants immunity to lava damage.
  • The north supply camp guards repositioned.
  • Fire, Earth and Air shrine blessings have been converted into a single blessing that just increased movement speed by 40%.
  • The objective walls that only act to block shortcuts have had their health significantly reduced.
  • The north keep’s telepads now put a short duration debuff on players that prevents rapidly teleporting back and forth.
  • Vista cinematics have been made smoother.
  • Repositioned guards at shrines.
  • Reduced the number of creatures on the map.
  • Added more ranger pets to the map.
  • Reduced the number of air turrets.
  • Reduced the knockback distance of the air turret attack.
  • Rearranged some jump pads.
  • Keeps now have interior supply depots.
  • Terrain changed in a few places that will open up additional paths.
  • Tower cannons repositioned.
  • Fire Keep mortars repositioned.
  • Champion wyvern reduced to elite rank.
  • Improved shrine tooltips.
  • The Additional Guards upgrade will now also post guards outside breakable walls.
  • Rebalanced the frequency of Oasis event dinosaurs spawning and the number of Power Cores required to turn-in.
  • Oasis Power Cores will now ping the map when a new dinosaur spawns, or a player picks one up.
  • Oasis Power Cores will now clean up properly after the event completes.
  • Earth Keep rock maze control console cooldown increased.
  • Earth Keep interior rock maze reworked to be less obstructive when only allied players are present. Half of the rock walls stay hidden until enemies show up.
  • Skysplitter now creates camera shake, at the temple, while firing.
  • Skysplitter now is marked on the map, during the event and while firing.
  • Oasis event now has mapwide announcements and voice overs.
  • Nights are less dark.

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed a bug where life siphon damage was hitting object that normally can’t be hit.
  • Fixed some lava locations that weren’t properly damaging players.
  • Fixed a bug that caused camp guards to respawn faster than intended.
  • Fixed a bug where the Inferno Transform buff would linger after leaving the transform.
  • Fixed a number of terrain exploits.
  • Added further protections against the elusive untargetable gate/wall bug.
  • Fixed a bug where wood walls could not be repaired.
  • Fixed a bug where waypoints were available for a few seconds between repel events.
  • Fixed a bug where patrols wouldn’t respawn.
  • Fixed a bug where supply depots sometimes wouldn’t update properly when empty.
  • Fixed a bug where the Fire Keep could sometimes become randomly contested.

You folks are model bug reporters. Thank you SO very much!

I’m actively discussing with several devs, and they’re identifying. What I’ve found is that it seems related to Shaders, not Shadows, but I’m sending them a bunch of images of my char with various settings on and off. With your help — and those images and setting choice identifications — we’re on this!!!

Ah sorry, the backend support for those went in but the API frontend needs a deploy to fix that as well. Will have that done shortly.

EDIT: Also, yeah, heal/elite will be null if there’s no skill equipped.

EDIT2: Looks like there are some additional underlying issues. Might have to punt on the skills addition until the next release, unfortunately.

EDIT3: Will try to have it fixed in a couple of weeks but turning it off for now since the skill ids are totally broken. ;_;

BALANCE, BUG-FIXING, POLISH
Raids

  • Salvation Pass
    • Berg, Narella, and Zane have found some new tricks and can now escape from the prisoner’s cage if they get stuck.

General

  • The Squad UI now displays the number of members currently in the squad.
  • Longbows and short bows wielded in preview are now held in the left hand. This is to be consistent with how your character will actually hold the bow in the world.

World vs. World

  • Guild Claiming—Cloaking Waters: Reduced stealth duration from 1.5 minutes to 1 minute. Also fixed a bug that allowed the fountains to be destroyed, preventing the fountains from providing stealth to allies.
  • Fixed a bug that caused keeps to mark nearby enemy players incorrectly.

BLACK LION TRADING COMPANY GEM STORE
New Items and Promotions

  • The total number of bank tabs allowed has been increased to 14. Two additional bank tabs can be purchased in the Bank UI or in the Upgrades category of the Gem Store for 600 gems each.
  • Added a new Ironclad Appearance Pack. This pack contains 1 Ironclad Outfit, 1 Ironclad Glider, 1 Immortal Weapon Choice, 1 Total Makeover Kit, and 5 Black Lion Chest Keys. This pack is available in the Style category of the Gem Store for 2,000 gems.
  • The Ironclad Glider is now available in the Upgrades category of the Gem Store for 500 gems.
  • The Ironclad Outfit is now available in the Style category of the Gem Store for 700 gems.
  • Bunny Ears have returned for a limited time in the Style category of the Gem Store for 200 gems.

Improvements

  • Bundles of items in the Gem Store will no longer be affected by sales on the items inside them and will not consume the individual sale if purchased. Total purchase limits still apply.

Bug Fixes

  • To prevent players from being unable to start their personal story, the Royal Terrace Pass and Captain’s Airship Pass can no longer be used while in the first personal story instance.
  • The Butterfly Harvesting Flute now properly grants swiftness when used with an Item Booster.
  • Unauthorized visitors to the Havok’s Heir will now be forcibly removed. Please have your pass available for inspection.
