Hey guys,

We did make a change to Season 2 GCL decay that some of you may have run into. So let me go over how the new decay works:

There is a 2-day grace period where your team’s ELO will not be affected for not playing. After this grace period, your team will lose 100 ELO each day that you continue to not play for 7 days for a maximum loss of 700 ELO. If you play 1 game at any point during this decay period, however, you will reset the decay time, which will give you a new 2-day grace period again. You can also earn all of your lost ELO back by playing games as a team. You’ll earn 10 of the decayed ELO back for each game you play.

Here’s a quick example:

  • My teams has 1600 ELO
  • We don’t play for 4 days
  • The team suffers from a 200 ELO decay, putting our team at 1400 ELO
  • If we play 20 games, we will get all 200 of our lost ELO back, plus whatever ELO we would get naturally from either winning or losing those games

Hey PollyMcPretty,

I looked into this for you real quick and it looks like a problem with you doing “Express Checkout” in Paypal. I see you were able to make a purchase with another payment method today, but if you want to return to Paypal, my suggestion would be to attempt to not do the “Express Checkout” option in PayPal.

If anyone else is having this same issue, please reply here, I’ll get it looked into.

He’s certainly biased, as is Krytan royalty past and present. If you have a chance to watch the most recent live stream that should put things into context.

Matchmaking doesn’t count pips past the end of legendary, so prestige count won’t affect queue times.

It was said already, but with an accurate or prestigious ladder you get people on each extreme with long queue times as the population to pull from is smaller. Queue times in unranked are never this bad because we expand the mmr search range quite far over time. We could do the equivalent expansion of the ladder search range, but there will be just as many (if not more) people then complaining about all the legendary players in their ruby matches.

To summarize the issues people have brought up:
An accurate ladder rewards skill at the cost of queue time.
Reducing queue time would require frustrating players with imbalanced matches (either by skill, or just visual ladder badge).
Making the ladder more about grind gets more players to legendary, but there is no prestige.

What would make legendary players happy to keep playing the game? Is it just quicker queue times? What if you could do other things while waiting? What if there was something other than leagues all together like unranked arena that legendary players could go to until more players make it to legendary?

My Two Cents :
- Rework the “Skyhammer”:

  • Make it available only at certain times, (aka 11:30, 8:30, 5:30, pretty much like “Med” on ToSS).
  • Place some sort of bonusses inside the underground passages of the map.
  • Give it 6 uses and enable it for 1-2mins only each time.
  • Increase the rotation speed of the Hammer
  • Give it two types of ammo, 1, the current AOE dmg strike, and the 2nd, a healing shot with Condi cleanse.

Reasoning:
- I think the Skyhammer itself, the cannon I mean, its fun, but how about if we give it a healing factor too? and make it available only during certain times, that way people wouldn’t zerg it from min 00, they will (or should) try to cap first, fight on points until the “hammer” is available.

This is an awesome point and something I really wanted to ask you (the PvP community) so thank you for bringing this up.

  • Which secondary mechanic do you like more: A secondary mechanic that is always up and has constant impact on the map or a secondary mechanic that comes up periodically that maybe has more impact on the map?
  • Do you think secondary mechanics should ALL be swing mechanics or can there be some maps secondary mechanics that are more focused on snowballing the match?
  • If you could rework the Skyhammer secondary mechanic what would you keep and what would you change?

This is indeed a known bug and we’re working on finding a fix for it now. In the meantime, you can try a different map (either by logging out/going to a different zone for at least an hour or by taxiing in) or just keep an eye on our Known Issue Tracker for updates on our progress.

My attention is gotten! I’m working with our QA department right now on a list of broken/stalled events (including this one). You should expect to see them start appearing on the Known Issue Tracker tonight, with the rest of the ones I’m aware of up by Thursday evening. If you know of a busted event that is not on the tracker on Friday, please shoot me a detailed PM and I’ll check it out. The more info you can provide the better – which NPCs are broken, items that don’t spawn right, the name of the event step it stalls on, that sort of thing. Thanks!

Hi all,

This is a great thread. It’s constructive. We’re all reading it and referring to it in team discussions.

As we said in the AMA, our top internal priorities have been population balance and rewards. From this thread, your top five priorities are, in order:
1. Stability & skill balance
2. Fix or revert DBL
3. Rewards
4. Population balance
5. Scoring

Yes, we will take the feedback and make stability, general skill balance, and fixing/reverting DBL our top priorities. We’re not currently working on scoring and that has to be a longer-term project.

Karl is working specifically on WvW-focused skill balance. He’s looking for the wins for WvW that don’t screw the rest of the game.

We’re investigating whether to fix or revert DBL. They’re both a lot of work. These next couple days will be your last chance to give feedback before we make a decision, so speak now or forever hold your peace.

I want to reiterate that everything we work on either ships in April or starts beta-testing on Live servers in April. We’re locking down dev work for the April release soon — next up is localization, QA, integration and regression testing — but we’ll extend the deadline for WvW skill balance.

There is one thing that doesn’t need to get wrapped up into the April release: Friday night resets. That doesn’t require a Live build. We’ll do it.

Thanks for the reports, and thanks to those who talked about this with me last night in the game. I entered a zone and saw a conversation about this issue, and asked questions so I could write up a good report. Several players helped out — Panzerkamfwägen, Victoria Terrashade, Opal Soulfire — and their information was very useful as I shared their experiences and my own. (Imagine my surprise when I was outside the listed zone and still got credit for logging! That’s seems unlikely intended behavior. )

Awesome thread so far everyone! I really appreciate everyone taking the time to write up their feedback and keep it constructive. Let’s do a quick recap:

  • Remove/adjust the breakable panels at A and C point or Add second layer under the hole so players dont die, but still lose time for falling into them
    • Which do you like better?
  • Glass Panels only break from cannon fire
    • What do we think about this suggestion?
  • Enlarge the Skyhammer Platform, Add line of sight props
  • Add multiple portals to get to and from the skyhammer platform
    • Does this have to be in both places: in center of map and skyhammer platform or just the skyhammer platform?
  • Adjust the jump pads
  • Take away the ability to die from falling damage
    • Do we want to completely remove the ability to die from falling damage or make it only in very specific places?
  • Adjust middle point high ground
    • Do we want to completely remove this because of gameplay/camera problems or adjust it as it creates good gameplay but messes with camera
  • Secondary Mechanic Adjustment
    • Reduce Damage
    • Increase Cooldown
    • Reduce the turn speed
  • Remove Skyhammer from Unranked
    • Do we think the map simply can’t be altered to stay in Unranked?

Just to clarify, this is just a discussion and we are not specifically committing to any or all of the suggestions, but it does help us to understand how you (the pvp community) sees the map and determine what can be improved.

While I know I’m necrorising this thread, I think the suggestion appears often enough to have a good represetnative discussion in the front of the forums.
(I have found at least another 6 less interesting threads covering this subject, and people also ask periodically for emotes in all the “new ideas”, “new gemstore items” and “missing stuff” ones).

What I would like to discuss today is this quote from Regina B, taken from the “dev Quotes from Reddit” thread.

Also, seeing that the animators do such a great job in GW2, why can’t we get more emotes ? (Could even be a gemstore thing, as long as it’s not a book thingie that we have to take everywhere, but something that unlocks new emote commands instead ?)


Resources and priority comes up with animation and emotes as well. Yes, we can technically create new emotes, but they need to be prioritized over other needs. Do new player emotes take priority over animation for creatures in (as an example) the next raid? If game directors believe that this is a good use of our limited resources, then then this would be prioritized and resources would be allocated accordingly. It would be awesome to have new player-character emotes, but we don’t have unlimited animators, and they may have other other priorities that supersede the desire for new emotes.

I would like to answer the hypotetical question from Regina.
YES.
I do think player emotes should take priority over raid animations, for the simple reason that the new emotes will add to the experience of every GW2 player, while raids only affect a group. Emotes also would aid RPs, another group integral to the community, one who ahvent seen any support since a loooong time.

I’m not saying raids are bad. I like them, and I think they add a new aspect to the game that is needed. But I think they should NOT exist at the expense of other much simpler, open to all and fun content.

I also understand Regina is just saying this as an example. But I think the example sounds too specific and real to ignore. I think a relevant company like Anet should be able to split resources for areas so different, but if I’m forced to choose between Emotes and Raids, I DO prefer emotes.

What do you think?

It is just an example. Seriously. You may think what you wish about it, but it doesn’t change the fact that it’s an example I literally came up with on the spot to try and demonstrate the kind of resource and prioritization discussions that happen in game development. There is no active internal zero-sum discussion regarding this specific request for new emotes vs. animation for raid creatures. Please don’t spin this into something that it isn’t.

A lot of players ask us, “Can you please add this thing?” not understanding that trade-offs need to be made in order to make that thing happen, including making decisions about what we won’t be able to do, if we did a thing. The benefits you gave regarding new emotes are solid and great reasons to have new emotes. But please keep in mind that we have limited resources and need to prioritize them and allocate those resources. Who sets the priorities and allocates the resources accordingly? That happens at a level way above me.

Here’s one reason: The developers have limited time and resources.

Yeah, we’ve covered this one. The time and resources it would take to implement something like this would be negligible, not remotely enough to counterbalance the benefits it would bring.

At this point, I need to interject. I am familiar with the process of changing to a multi-modality system of game presentation, having written about it long ago, when I was a journalist writing about another company and another game. For that game, too, players said “No big deal.” And they were absolutely wrong. They said, “Just tweak a few stats, lower a few spawns, and voila, you’ve got it!” No, that’s not how it worked. And that’s not how I think it would work for Guild Wars 2.

I will ask about this, and if we’re prepared to say something official, one of us will do so. But it’s counterproductive to have a discussion head down the path of misinformation and what seems to be a growing error in assumption. With all due respect, unless you’re a developer for GW2 you are not qualified to make a statement about the time needed, difficulty involved, or feasibility of such a feature.

You’re welcome to discuss the situation, and we appreciate that you want to do that. We welcome the conversation! But please participate by sharing what you’d like to see, and why, and don’t be misled by individual, external assumptions about the feasibility or practicality of such a request.

All three are Quip. The first is a Legendary pistol, the second is a Legendary Hammer and the third is a Legendary Rifle….

Those are some of Scarlet’s weapons, wielded during the Queen’s Jubilee. I’m not sure how they got onto the API or why they’re called Quip, but this isn’t the first time it’s come up so I’m just going to blacklist them.

I’m not going to change the MumbleLink data format any further — it’s plagued by issues currently. One of my long-term lofty goals that may never happen is to build an opt-in websocket-based API into the client so that local and web applications can query for real-time info. Here’s the github issue for that dream.

To expand further on the MumbleLink data issues — the format allows only a fixed amount of data in the field, which effectively prohibits its use as a chat log. Moreover, because writes/access to the shared memory are unsynchronized, applications often get half-baked data (e.g., they read it while the client is in the middle of writing). We’re stuffing JSON into the description field, so this manifests as reading invalid JSON. We’ve mostly stuck to the guidelines and only put data that rarely changes in there, so it’s not terrible, but the format is highly restrictive.

the best thing you can do is report them and attach a screenshot. if that doesnt work and you see them doing it again you can force anet to act by posting the screenie on the forums and/or elsewhere.

You cannot attach a screenshot to the initial ticket. You can submit a ticket and offer to provide a screenshot or screenshots in a subsequent response. (You can attach after the first contact; it’s a security measure.)

But I have to ask: why submit a ticket when the chat monitoring and in-game report system is so effective? It’s far more efficient for the agents monitoring The Stream to simply pull up the logs, or see the logs automatically provided to them, and action from that system, rather than having someone review a report through the ticketing system.

Left click the character engaged in offensive chat or left click after choosing their name in the chat window. Right click and choose the bottom option, which is “Report.” Select a reason, which it sounds to be “Verbal Abuse.” Click “Submit” and you’re done. It take less than 30 seconds and you do see a verification that the name you’ve selected is the one you intend, to avoid accidentally sending a report about a guildie or someone chatting with you.

If you’re option is to send an e-mail report then include exact spelling of the character or display name, the date, time, time zone, and server. Include what was said and the context, if any. Once you’ve submitted a ticket, CS will let you know if they need to see the screenshot. You then can submit a screenshot, after the initial ticket.

Using the in-game report system is incredibly effective. We have people watching The Stream, as we call it, 24/7/365. Left click the person or the person’s name in chat, right click, Scroll to “Verbal Abuse,” and the monitors will see the chat string and strings around it.

I will let CS know that this seems to be a growing issue, and they will take whatever steps they can to handle this.

Generally, that will not help as the software responsible for the crash was installed separately. Using tools that can detect and remove malware would probably be better suited.

Beyond being disallowed and a breach of the GW2 User Agreement, which is something everyone accepts before playing the game, there is another risk: Account theft. The majority of stolen accounts are stolen through real-money traders. No matter how many alleged satisfied customers they claim to have, no matter the anecdotal stories you’re told, no matter how many claims are made that your account will be secure, that fact is, we trace nearly all stolen accounts to RMT, and nearly all in-game gold-selling spam to accounts stolen by RMT.

So you should avoid using a third-party not just because it’s against the UA and could result in account closure. You should avoid it because it puts your account at a very real risk of account theft.

Hey guys, as many of you know, we changed WvW match reset times from Friday to Saturday as part of the Heart of Thorns release. We made this change primarily because sometimes we need to run hotfix builds on Fridays, and with the expansion launch we expected to need to do this more than usual. However we don’t run builds on the weekend, so this allowed reset nights to be safe from interruption. This was a highly controversial change at the time, and as part of the change we agreed to consider changing reset back to Friday, once we were past the hectic HoT launch period.

So here we are, strongly considering changing reset nights back to Fridays, but we have a couple questions first:

1) Now that you guys have settled around Saturday resets, do you still want resets changed back to Fridays? Or at this point, is changing the reset day back to Friday more disruptive than just leaving it as is?

Assuming the community overall agrees that changing reset time back to Friday is the way to go, we next need to decide on the time of day for the reset for both NA and EU players. This is important because eventually we’ll want to do hotfixes on Fridays again, and we won’t want to disrupt reset nights then either. On days that we do run a hotfix on Friday, we generally aim for it to be around 4:30PM PST/PDT, though they can technically happen at any time. We should also blackout +/- 1 hour around that time as our hotfix window, since while we aim for that time, it’s not an exact process.

Our tentative plans are:

  • NA resets on 6PM/7PM PST/PDT Fri (2:00 UTC Sat)
  • EU resets on 10AM/11AM PST/PDT Fri (18:00 UTC Fri.)

2) Do the above times seem reasonable to you guys? If not, what time do you propose that you believe would please a greater percentage of the community, while still not overlapping with our hotfix window?

Could you guys try the following and let me know if it works?


1. Completely close the game
2. Go to temp folder by going to start/run, type in %temp% and hit enter
3. Browse to the folder gw2cache-(###). Example: “gw2cache-(50641E0B-3AD4-1601-081E-6450D43A0116)” 
4. Delete the whole gw2cache folder
5.  Restart the game and see if this resolved your issue
