Now that the box is fixed for anyone who hasn’t opened the box yet, we can now distribute replacement items for those who have.
Just a quick question, how are “guild leaders” defined?
Is it any rank with all permissions or just the highest rank in the guild or …?
The top-most rank in the guild UI panel is special; it’s the “leader” rank (has id=1 in the API). It’s not just any rank with all permissions.
How old are we talking? We should be able to expose the Season 1 standings (division/pips) but anything earlier than that is going to be a bit more work. The game histories are already dumped out via /v2/pvp/games, but due to our retention policies we can only save the last ten games, so anything older than that is lost (there’s a variety of sites that will save your game history for you).

Matches for some people will be better after the change. The way timing lined up, players on the edges of the MMR curve would go from no matches to all the (bad) matches in one jump.
Generally for refunds it’s best to submit a ticket, but I went ahead and took care of this for you. Your replacement teleports should be in your mailbox.
Regarding the bug itself, I’ve reached out to some devs to figure out what the status on it is. Everyone’s gone home for the evening at this point, but I’ll update this thread when I have more info.
In the meantime, if anyone else has had this happen, please do contact us and we’ll hook you up with replacements.
We’ve been finding more ways to analyze how matchmaking is behaving in order make improvements to the system. Today you should notice a great improvement in queue times as we’ve identified some configurations that were adding wait times for no tangible benefits. Some players will notice a reduction in queue times of up to 3 minutes!
This should be fixed in tomorrow’s patch.
This should be fixed in tomorrow’s patch.
Sure! I’ll try and explain a bit more about what’s going on with this option. There’s a lot going on under the hood but I’ll try and give a more detailed overview.
Couple of terms I’m going to be using.
Ray Cast: A check to see if there is collision between points A and B.
Sphere Cast: A check to see if there is collision between points A and B, but instead of checking in a line, it checks in a radius ‘r’. This is much more expensive than a Ray Cast.
Cast: Some sort of cast.
Snap: Moving the camera position to prevent the view from being obstructed.
Collision Sensitivity Index X(CSI X): Where x is some number. For example CSI 0 would be the farthest setting on the left. Whereas CSI 9 is the farthest setting on the right.
When CSI is set to 0 (Farest left) the game uses a single cast to detect if there is an obstruction. This is done by doing a cast from the character to where we want the camera to be. If there is something between those two points we snap the camera to a place closer than to where the detected collision is.
When CSI is set to any number between 1 and 9 the algorithm changes. We send out a variety of sphere and ray casts to try and get a better idea of the space around the character and the camera. At CSI 1 we are looking for roughly 46% of the space between and around the character to be blocked with collision. At CSI 5 we are looking for 73%, and at CSI 9 we are looking for 100%. When these thresholds are reached only then will it try and snap.
You can see a pretty good example of it here from the livestream we did on this. https://youtu.be/Mmz2lxW1B0Q?t=3m8s
Hopefully that helps some!
EDIT: Just realized it might just be a misunderstanding of the account/achievements functionality. These are achievements I haven’t started and thus have no progress. Is that the issue, or should it still show achievements I haven’t started?
It only shows achievements for current > 0 — if the achievements haven’t been started nothing is stored in the account record (which is where that data is coming from). I’ll see if I can get the documentation updated; sorry about the confusion :<
Hoping to have it ready around the start of Season 2. Here’s the github issue.
I’m not planning on exposing the predicted win/loss % or per-match pip loss/gain, but it will expose your current division/pips/etc.
Is the WvW API misreporting Kills and deaths? I am seeing some maps reporting 0 kills and deaths at the end of the week. I am pretty sure this isn’t the case in Tier 1. The maps that are reporting deaths and kills seem to be terribly low.
There was some really terrible code I wrote in there that was causing both the NA and EU resets to flush all the data. It only recently manifested because we fixed EU event reporting a couple of weeks back, and should be fixed with the next release. Github issue.
That is the intended behavior while using first person.
That’s kinda what Call Target is for, no?

It looks like your email was compromised in the past and it hit our spam threshold which blocks access.
The API is showing me all 12 achievements of the category “Bosses”.
Right, but he’s saying that some of them aren’t being returned by the authenticated /v2/account/achievements endpoint if you’ve completed them.
What am I missing? They are being returned as completed if I use my API key and return as uncompleted if I use the API key of an account who does not have them completed. So to me it looks like they are working?
Oh, fair.
@PBag can you PM me the API key you’re using?
Yep, there’s already an open issue. The endpoint is pending some backend support that should go out with the next release.
One major reason you may not see the option: you are in a different region from the party member. e.g. you are in NA and they are in EU.
The API is showing me all 12 achievements of the category “Bosses”.
Right, but he’s saying that some of them aren’t being returned by the authenticated /v2/account/achievements endpoint if you’ve completed them.
I’ve no idea why this is happening; I’ve made a separate issue on github to track it.
Though some historic ones like Group Effort I to V in the Escape from Lion’s Arch category are still missing
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Escape_from_Lion's_Arch_%28achievements%29
I just queried the historical logs for all achievements awarded from 2014-01-01 to today and whitelisted almost all the ones that weren’t already whitelisted (only one I omitted was the 4 year birthday achievement — which is impossible for normal accounts to have acquired).
That set did include the Group Effort achievements (among a bunch of others) so those should be appearing shortly on the /v2/achievements endpoint. I’ve no idea why those aren’t being automatically whitelisted, since presumably they’re being returned from /v2/account/achievements. :/
svchost is used by many systems and many programs within Windows. Why it is causing a problem and how it may be tied to GW2 is hard to say, since the process doesn’t really tell you what it is doing.
If I had to guess, and this is pure speculation, it might be a graphics card related process, as that is where a good chunk of the memory the game uses goes.
I am sure if Anet sees certain questions they could potentially answer then they would and ones they cant, they would hopefully take those back and possibly do a spot light on that topic in future or give us a one off response in the forum.
Either way it does not hurt to ask.
That’s not really something that’s going to happen in this context. When I say “What would you like to know about creature design?”, the responses that are “Yes here is my question about WvW/beer/skill balance/fractals/festivals/stuff I want in the gem store!” simply get skimmed over while we pull questions from people who have questions about the actual topic.
That doesn’t mean “Oh hey clearly this is a list of things that ArenaNet as a company doesn’t care about”. It means that me, the creature team Animator, and the creature team Game Designer can’t answer those questions–not only because they have nothing to do with the topic of Friday’s Guild Chat, but because we don’t work on those teams and we don’t have answers.
So! Kudos to those of you who had questions on the topic! Ben and Brian came to me with two pages of good questions that were interesting to talk about and we’re looking forward to addressing them tomorrow.
The character data returned from the API is up to ~5 minutes old, so returning HP isn’t really useful. It could technically return the other stats, but computing all that is a bit difficult so it doesn’t currently.
Items with chosen stats are a known issue. There’s currently no way to tell that an item has chose-able stats, nor can you determine via API which stats are currently selected. It’ll get fixed at some point, but probably not within the next month :<
Thanks everyone, we’re looking into it from here.
Hey,
for sure I am using the options to get multiple items with ids=… . I figured out, that there is a maximum of 100 IDs, that are possible? So when trying to query n items I still have send n/100 queries to the API.
There’s a maximum of 200 ids/request, you may be hitting IIS’s URL length limit. You can also use the ?page_size=200&page=X parameters to paginate through the resources if you’re hitting the URL length limit.
Can I find any information about the refreshing rate of the api? Prices at the TP change very fast – so it isn’t even possible to get the real-time-prices?
All endpoints currently have a 5-minute cache. The cache is necessary to decouple the API from game services so that an API catastrophe does not cascade to other services.
If you’re only interested in the current price (and not every listing available) I highly recommend using /v2/commerce/prices instead (as it has a much lighter footprint on our backend).
Thank you for both reports, Balthazar! We’re investigating both, though I cannot offer you an eta on fixes at this time.
I love how absolutely pointed Rubi’s response is. Let’s keep in mind that she has nothing to do with most of the things we actually care about. She’s just in charge of marketing stuff so she’ll be doing this kind of fluff to try to distract us from our disappointments with the game.
The power (I’m in charge of marketing! A promotion!) and ulterior motives ascribed here give me too much credit. The real reason behind the question is much less exciting: It’s the topic of Friday’s show.
That’s pretty much it. We have a planning meeting for each episode of Guild Chat with the developer guests. During this one, Ben and Brian asked me if we could have this forum post because they wanted to hear from GW2 players and answer some of their questions on the show. I said yes. They went through the thread today, picked questions, and gave them to me at rehearsal.
The reason for topic of this week’s Guild Chat isn’t too sinister either: When we did the last show with the creature team, it was on very short notice due to a last minute scheduling change. The developer guests really enjoyed themselves, and at the end of the show said they’d love to come back when there was more time to plan and they could give people a better look. I said I’d bring them back as soon as there was a spot in the schedule. February 5th is that spot.
So there’s a peek behind the scenes of Guild Chat show planning. It’s… not very thrilling.
Occasionally it doesn’t play the muzzle flash visual. This would cause the side-effect of it not playing its audio as audio for effects, such as the muzzle flash, is paired with the visuals. Thanks for the report.
Thanks everyone who asked about creature design! Brian and Ben went through today before livestream rehearsal and picked out some good questions from the thread, so we’re all set.
IIRC I looked into exposing it at one point and couldn’t make sense of the data. This is something that a few people have requested, so I might take a few more stabs at it in the future (approaching it from the viewpoint of the story journal is a good idea — I hadn’t thought of that).
Thank you for sharing this. It looks beautiful… and delicious!
A Message from the Guild Team:
As many of you are aware, the cost of scribing is really expensive and some prices don’t make sense. Scribing is more expensive now than we meant it to be, and although we expected prices to be higher while the economy was shifting due to the launch of Heart of Thorns, the economy is now stabilizing, yet Scribing costs are still too expensive. We are looking at how to best balance Scribing by making multiple changes to the system.
Upcoming Changes
Make the prices more reasonable. Not all scribing recipes are overpriced and some of the “cooler” recipes, like Uzolan, are objectives that guilds enjoy working towards. However, we are aware the some prices are far more expensive than we ever intended them to be and they need to be adjusted.
Design recipes that make sense. There are recipes for small decorations that cost more than the bigger and cooler decorations, and this just feels weird! We want to make sure that scribing recipes make sense and that the effort and value you put into them doesn’t feel like a waste of your time, effort, and resources.
Fix illogical recipes. Several recipes require components that are not unlocked for you until you have achieved a higher level of scribing. These are mistakes and we plan to fix these recipes.
Slivers and pigments! We are aware that slivers are expensive and are a major reason that scribing is in its present state. Currently we are discussing how we want to balance slivers and pigments and make sure they don’t cause scribing to be so expensive.
Overall these are the issues we are focusing on to bring scribing more in line with where we want it to be. We don’t have a release date for these changes yet, but we plan to keep everyone in the loop as we move forward with these changes. We encourage you to keep posting feedback on scribing!
Hello there,
Sorry to hear about your troubles. Thank you for posting to the forum.
Can you please tell me which of the 4 “souls” you captured last? This will help us narrow down where the problem is.
Love it. Another great theme, DusK. Thanks for posting.
Post on Reddit (for anyone still having problems).

UPDATE: Guys, Tech said there was an update made, however, the change needs to get out to the datacenter, and your browser cache needs to refresh.
So, if you have not yet, please try to log out of the game (closing it fully), clear your browser cache and try to log back in.
The cache can be found at: * Located: C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\Temp * There are a number of gw2cache folders located here. * These folders are the web browser cache for the in-game browser that runs the trading post and gem store. * Deleting these Cache folders is like clearing a browser cache for the trading post and gem store.
Please note that as I mentioned above, the programmer researching this issue did not feel that flushing the cache would be an effective means of clearing this issue.
If someone is having difficulties, the best means of getting help is through submitting a ticket to Customer Support. Please click “Support” above, then click “Submit a request” to receive assistance.
Hi there!
Thanks for reporting this issue on the forum. We’re taking a look at a fix for anyone that has yet to get to this point in the 2nd Twilight Precursor Collection.
Note: I’m assuming this was the Twilight collection piece where you need to give Mossi 100 Obsidian Shards. So far, I could only find this problem existing within Twilight’s obsidian item. If you’re talking about another instance of this issue, please let me know so we can address that as well.
Also, for items you’re missing due to the bug, please contact Customer Support to see if they are able to help you. No guarantees, but they will try to help as best they can. Sorry for the inconvenience!
The February 5th episode of our Guild Chat livestream will be about designing creatures in Guild Wars 2 with dev guests Brian Walter (Animator) and Ben Phongluangtham (Game Designer). They’ll be talking about the work process of adding new creatures to the game, using creatures you’ve encountered in Heart of Thorns–Mushroom Bombers, Bristlebacks, and Mordrem Maggots, among others–as examples of how it’s done.
We’d like to answer a few of your questions about this topic, so post them here and we’ll select some to talk about the day of the show.
It’s no problem. Thanks for contacting us! Let us know if you have any other issues.
Ok, this thread started out with one person’s opinion of what he would like to be given. For free. In a game that, today, has no cost to entry. I understand it’s (properly used ) human nature to ask for more. But what you need to play the game on a equal playing field is not influenced by what you want to have. And the sales of items that are fully optional is an entirely reasonable business model.
The thread then devolved into insults about language, spelling, grammar, and syntax.
Opinion expressed. Comments received. Derailed. Conversation closed.
That’s an issue on our side; we had some connectivity errors this morning which caused some things to temporarily break. Lemmie know if you’re still having issues and I’ll check it out.
Update:
One of our programmers gave this a good look, and there was an outage earlier today that may have delayed delivery. But at this time, all queued or pending orders have been delivered.
If you have issues, please let us know, but this appears to have resolved as of this morning.
There was an outage this morning from ~5-7 AM PST, might have been related. Looking into some other possibly related issues with the /v2/guild endpoints now.
Hey guys! I wanted to let you know that we’re investigating and working on a fix for this, but no eta on it.
Hey all,
We’re checking into a possible issue with the Trading Post. It would be helpful if you provide the following information:
We are aware of the issue and are looking into a fix.
Was the bouncy-chest empty? Or was the consumable item empty?
The fix for this is in testing and should be in an upcoming release.
I’ve really enjoyed coming back to this game and had a lots of pleasant experiences to this point. I do find the last response from the GW team to be kind of rude. I think the phrase “freak out” is misused. I’ve been patiently checking this forum every day for almost a week now, as have quite a few people. Even the posts here are pretty calm considering how aggravating this problem is. What a great problem too – people are enjoying the story lines so much that not being able to move on through them is really annoying to them. Rather than belittle those who are playing your game, gracious appreciation and sincere apologies for the hold up would be a better move.
Snide comments like the above make me consider taking my time and my business elsewhere.
You’re right, Kya, I shouldn’t have used that phrase. I was trying to avoid using the same words in two different posts so it wouldn’t seem like I was just copy/pasting responses without reading the threads. I apologize for coming off as dismissive – I know you guys are just upset because you’re excited about playing through the story and are now stuck.
I do want to reiterate my thanks for the patience most of you have shown, and assure you that we’re fixing things as fast as we can. Unfortunately, sometimes “as fast as we can” is sometimes two weeks (or longer). I wish we could always have a fix for every bug in the first hotfix after a patch, but some bugs are just harder to fix. I’m sorry this one is taking so long. Please know that we are listening, and we do take your concerns seriously.
There’s a lot of feedback to read, so please don’t mind if I ask this: Do you have specific areas of concern? Also, did you post in the major feedback thread? I don’t mind asking about this, if I’m able to do so. But a general “it’s broken” isn’t as good as solid evidence.
I am not Oeps, but the general consensus on the mesmer side was that the “bunker” build was the only viable way to play pre patch. That was rightfully toned down, but mesmers were essentially given nothing in return. With the release of HoT the previously viable builds have fallen far behind the Elite Specialisations and what remains of the Chronomancer post-26th simply can’t keep up.
There is no real “specific area” of concern, it’s just that each individual change adds up to a horrifying total, essentially like you’re trying to kill the disease, the patient and the next of kin all in one go: You halve the effectiveness of Alacrity (which one must reasonably assume all Chronomancer cooldowns were balanced around, ignoring the group buff aspect), you remove Quickness affecting stomps/rezzing, you effectively remove Well of Precognition, you buff classes/builds which were previously known for hard-countering mesmers and you fail to provide any reasonable compensation to more offense-oriented mesmer builds which happened to rely on any of these aspects all at the same time!
Not even debating the validity of any of these changes individually it is clear most of them were focused on eliminating the chrono-bunker, so one has to question why they were not implemented one after another and only after the previous change had clearly failed to achieve its intended goal.
Then there is also the emotional aspect of being told there were many more changes than those outlined in the “preview”, then getting nothing any of the experienced players would consider a substantial improvement (this one explicitly is about emotions and personal opinions and actual hard data might state the opposite, but the players don’t have access to those)
For a more on-topic example relevant to WvW, look at the changes made to Confusion application via Glamours: this achieved much the same effect as CoR (killing huge numbers of players at long range with little to no warning), but it a) could still be counteracted to some extent, b) cost the mesmer almost their entire build to pull off and c) was more or less REMOVED FROM THE GAME as soon as it was “noted to be problematic”. Again mesmers were given nothing to play a similar role (albeit weaker) in WvW even until now. Revenants meanwhile can still use their ONE skill much like before, and less than a week after the patch some aspects of the change are being looked into as “unintended”. How long did it take for Temporal Curtain to get looked at again?
Thank you, this is very helpful.
