It wouldn’t even be all that weird if you call your Asura “Bioexpert [something]” or similar.
Hey there.
Lately I’ve been thinking about doing WvW a bit, since PvE became kinda boring to me and sPvP doesn’t really interest me all that much. I’ve dabbled in it a bit with my guardian, but realized that I’m kind of a coward – I’m hesitant to go into melee range, a thing that would be kinda useful for someone who doesn’t like the scepter all that much. Anyways, since I already had a ranger as my second favorite class, I figured I’d go with him, but I’d like some advice on my (still purely theoretical) build first.
Nobody cares about your story-version: Come check dis out and tear my bad-build butt open, please.
No idea if she counts as a prominent video game vocalist per se, but Claudia Christian (aka Susan Ivanova from Babylon 5) voices the female Norn player characters.
To be fair, effectively engineers get up to 5 weapon sets and weapon swap without cooldown
I was more referring to the choice of different weapons rather the the number of sets available.
Yeah, my comment was mostly tongue-in-cheek anyways. Sorry if it didn’t come across all that well. (Rule of thumb: If I don’t use correct punctuation, I’m joking. Odd habit.)
Ah, ok, that sounds kinda cool actually.
I was honestly a bit disappointed that ANet didn’t implement GW1’s guild cape system.

In Guild Wars 1, capes were really important and they pretty much showed how good your guild was in certain aspects of the game.
How so? I’m genuinely curious, it’s been a while since I’ve played GW1 and when I did I never really bothered with guilds, so I’d like to know. Last I remembered they were purely cosmetic. Were there specific skins or cape shapes that you could unlock for your guild?
Male Asura, unique face, previous involvement in GW2…
‘Sup! Recently I started a sylvari (Mesmer, in case anyone cares), and since I spend about 30% of my playtime thinking about how I look the prettiest, the first thing I did was check out some armor skins. So while I’m pretty happy with my current armor, I’ll buy the Tier 2 cultural armor at some point in the future.
I’d like to coordinate my character’s hair with my future armor, so to my question: Can you recommend me a purple dye that comes as close as possible to my character’s hair color?
Not 100% sure, but there’s a screenshot of a guy with 37 character slots, so I guess 40 characters are at least possible.
Then again, that one might be photoshopped, so I genuinely don’t know. Just making educated guesses here.
New one I’ve seen recently – a Charr warrior called “La Charrcuterie”.
Pretty indifferent about the whole thing.
I’m mostly a PvE player with the occasional bouts of World versus World, so I get by on rare items and a few exotics if I can manage to get some. Hell, I use my laurels to buy gear boxes and unidentified dyes anyways, and I hardly ever do fractals, so I couldn’t really care less if ascended armor and weapons were introduced.
Unless they look pretty, then I’d be all over that like a witch in a sugar mill.
OK, sorry for the rant here, but I just need to do that once in a while.
I hate it so much when someone is all “The manifesto is a lie”. I mean let’s be honest, a lot of that video was PR and marketing buzzwords designed to build hype and make you salivate over the game, because money, so I don’t really think you can take that video and be all “YES, THIS IS WHAT WAS PROMISED, 100% OF THAT HAS TO BE TRUE”.
I know this comparison doesn’t fit a 100% (and most comparisons on the internet are crappy anyways), but when I see someone complaining about the manifesto lieing to him it feels like a guy complaining that his McDonalds burger isn’t all shiny and perfect and has fresh water drops on the salad. I mean, referring to the manifesto doesn’t invalidate someone’s point, but most of the time I’ve seen it in combination with alarmist BS that’s as much a rant as my post here, but with more exclamation marks.
By the way, OP, please don’t take this is as a knock on you as a person – I’m not addressing you specifically with this post, it’s just something I noticed a lot and I just wanted to get that out of my head. I actually agree with that point you’re making, the event system doesn’t exactly feel really ‘epic’ to me. Engaging, yes – the events add a lot of personality to the zones and races, there are a lot of memorable ones and they tell some interesting stories. But apart from maybe seeing major bosses like the Shadow Behemoth for the first time, I’d be hard pressed to find something really amazing, probably because of the practically non-existent use of the camera. You just sort of stand there while the bosses do or say something, then you beat them up and maybe the friendly NPCs of that event do something different and say some more.
I guess the best way would be getting some partners to guest on other servers to advertise in Lion’s Arch and maybe, at this time, Southsun Cove (since there are probably going to be a few people there) in addition to a post on the forums and maybe some advertising on fan forums.
Master Carver, because I have a d/d thief and an axe/focus necro.
Who can blame them, Caledon Forest is the prettiest zone.
Edit: Could you tell me where, in general, the entrance is? Like, just the general direction, would be nice.

The default female Sylvari thief uses the upper model, so I guess it’s been around for a while.
I kind of got into the habit of using punctuation when I’m serious, and just ending sentences without it when I’m joking or at least tongue-in-cheek. No idea where that comes from, but when I write without punctuation, the sentence feels like it’s just ‘thrown in the room’.
Or maybe it’s the other way round and I’m just messing with you right now

Ugh, this is tough. I’ll have to try this one.
there are sooo many other, far more important things that this game totally lacks before we should start worrying about irrelevant cosmetic details that 95% of the MMO demographic don’t give a flying kitten about).
Holy generalization, Batman!
Can I be honest for a second? To me, it seems like there are lot of judgmental people playing this game. I mean, from some posts I get that feeling that some people think players who don’t choose a lore-friendly name are somehow inherently lazy, stupid, or both. That doesn’t necessarily have to be true – and besides, I (as the guy who named his marsh drake Fishbreath) am not exactly a highbrow humor guy -, but it sure seems that way. Like, some people going “Ugh, why would I mingle with these people?”. Sure, you can think that, ain’t nobody able to do something about that. Different folks, different strokes. But labeling other human beings as inherently lazy, uncreative or stupid just because they don’t hold the same standard in character naming isn’t exactly intellectual highrolling either.
Sorry for the rant, just had to get that off my chest.
Alternatively, they could just do it like with the miniatures – just add a ‘fashion’ tab in your bank where you can store your clothes.
They could, but it’s a drag going back to the bank whenever you want to switch outfits.
Yeah, just realized that, brainfart from my side.
I guess a better idea would be something like DCUO’s system – in the menu there is a tab that lets you switch out and color costume pieces you already unlocked so far. Maybe something like that; you could purchase the fashion thing, it gives you an item you can use to unlock that style for a character, and then you could switch in and out of it whenever you want.

That Gate Engineer and his assistant by the Grove’s Asura gate are the best.
“It’s a golem, it doesn’t have a mother! I don’t know how, but you weirded out my golem.”
“So are you the mother, or the father?”
Depends, really. Sometimes I’m in the mood for ‘serious’ characters, roleplaying and all that stuff, and other times I just pick my usual screenname (Kazitron) or variations of it, and just go wild with pet names. So yeah, if you see a ranger named Zatrikon with his trusty pets Fishbreath and Popsicle Steve, pop a hello if you want.
No, Teyo, no! Get out of my statics intro already! Always following me, jeez. It’s like you have a crush on me.
But on a serious note, what is she doing there anyways? I haven’t played the other colleges yet, but is she in each of the intros?
When an Asuran male and an Asuran female share an emotional bond, they move together into a private lab. There, they have… a night together, and in the following months, they build a golem together, a golem unique to that pair. When the golem is done, it’s sent out to Rata Sum, while the Asura move into a room and wait for the special occasion.
After a few hours, the golem comes back and throws a baby at them.
Can I extend this to ask for an entire array of voice commands? Like in Team Fortress 2, pressing certain buttons makes a small list of voice commands appear where you can choose one (like “Thanks”, “Help” or “To the left”), and that one appears in the chat. They also have an internal cooldown that gets longer and longer the more commands you use in succession, to prevent spamming. It would be nice to have something like that.
Only an engineer would build a hand-operated rifle turret with an automatic crank.
Maybe it’s because I hardly ever spend any time in the class subforums, but I have no idea what mose of these abbreviations mean. s/f s/d F1 E5 L2 L1 W2 and now my head is spinning.
In my opinion, that whole “respect” thing doesn’t have anything to do with liking /sucking up to ANet or not. It’s basic human decency.
I actually like the lopsided ears on my Asura. But yeah, ANet should fix it, and in an ideal world they would add an option to have the ears like this.
Testing an elementalist build designed for using conjured weapons.
Depends on what would be included in the expansion, I’d definitely want some information about the content before I buy it. Pig in a poke and all that.
I wouldn’t really use housing, but other people do. More options are always good.

He was swift, but the steady needed work.
For a second there, I thought ET was a guild, and thought “stop advertising your guild, there’s a subforum for that”.
I feel stupid now.
The problem is, to fit your expectations they would either have to make it so that nobody can fight dragons in their story ever, only the first group to kill that dragon in the entire game would be allowed to do so, or put them on a cooldown and say “Oh, whoops, he’s not dead after all”, something like that. The first two aren’t really options – keywords “PR kittenstorm” – and the third one would just lead to frustrated players.
I can only speak for myself, but I don’t solo them because I’m not good enough to do so.
Sylvari can technically be nude, what with growing the “censoring” from their own bodies… Just kidding.
But let’s be honest, if there was nudity in this game (or any online game, for that matter), it sure wouldn’t be artistic. It would veer more into the "11 year-old kid running around shouting “LOOK AT MY BOOBS LOL XDDD”-territory.
“My warrior is… flaky.” – My friend when he first used that signet.
I really want this dance in the cash shop. With the music, of course.
Well, it’s confirmed!
Rytlock can’t tell the difference between skulls and butterflies.
My top candidate would be Tengu, too. No idea about the other 2 races, though.
Also, I’m relatively sure that Hylek won’t be playable. Kekai Kotaki (the leader of the concept art team) said in that making-of booklet that game with the collector’s edition that “the Hylek are a posterchild for what we can do when we are not making a playable race.”
Let’s be honest, this thread won’t go far. People will rush in to moan and whine until it’s locked.
Now don’t get me wrong, I’m not one of those “GUYS STOP SHOUTING, THERE ARE NO FLAWS LA LA LA”-guys – I’d say ANet could have really handled the situation better, to say the least. But still, you can’t expect a civil discussion right now, at least not on an official forum.
