Update 5.9.2013: getting better ANet, still way to go!
A Lannister always pays his debts – For everyone else, there’s Mastercard.
1) Ranger
2) Elementalist
3) Guardian
you are literally the only one posting here, and thats because nobody actually sees any point in discussing this with you.
Your “redesign” is never going to happen, because its either way too much to rebalance a whole class or your thoughts are just other the top.
Again: Not Gonna Happen
as much as i like your videos, you were pretty lucky not to get cc’ed or condibursted ;-)
But nice video
So many asuras died because I accidently killed them in the crowd :-P
rangers deal 1/3 of the damage a guardian / warri can deal, so no big issue.
I’ve stowed my ranger and played warri/guardian the last few weeks and its no disadvantage at all. In fact those classes seem to be a lot more powerfull.
that actually may be true in rank 1-10 matchups.
Smart Play >>> Smart Classes
it was a pretty long time being stuck in combat, thats why I noticed it at the first place.
Hey guys, today in my latest sPvP match I realized something weird.
I was defending a point when a Ranger came by to cap. After a short battle he ran away leaving his pet to disturb me.
I killed the pet with some hits so the pet returned to the ranger.
At this point there was already a quite big distance between me, the ranger and the pet but my character just couldnt leave combat mode and therefore didnt regenerate HP.
I thought this was because the pet was still somehow near, but since it was dead this was pretty strange already.
As soon as the ranger swapped the dead pet, I left combat mode.
To make you aware of the distance:
Forest of Niflhel, I was at Mine, Ranger on its way to Keep (almost there) and the pet near the svanir/chieftain NPC.
Bug or feature?
It was pretty annoying to be stuck in Combat mode so long, since I would have a huge disadvantage as soon as another player would come to attack.
to be honest: the only animations I realize are those of Norn Guardians and Norn Hambow warriors.
The Problem in sPvP is, that its way to crowded to notice ANY animation withouth casttimers. Asura is no exception
solution: give us freaking casttimers with noticeable cast Icons, increase the casttime of some of the spells for better risk / reward gameplay
signet of the hunt is only +50% damage, it’s an ingame typo.
I used a Razer Mouse inbetween my last logitechs and it litterally fell apart in my hand. It started to dissolve in summer, leaving many rubber pieces on my desk :-P
Hi!
IMHO for GW2 you dont really need a “Gaming Mouse”.
Main Weapon Skills
Numbers 1-5 are easily reachable for your fingers.
Weapon Swap “^” (using qwertz keyboard layout, dont know if its different on qwerty. Button Left of 1 below ESC)
Target Swap: Tab (a gaming mouse could be used to bind next / previous target seperately for better target controll)
Pet Controll
F1-F4 are arguably harder to reach depending on the Hand size.
I recommend testing it and depending on your results binding these to mouse buttons.
For rangers, F1-F4 are not as important as for example Elementalists or Engineers.
I personally use the keyboard keys, but thats up to you.
Utilities
Heal: “Q”
Utility: “E” “R” “T”
Elite: “Mouse 3” (Mousewheel click)
Movement
Dodge: V (dont use double tab since it takes to long and often makes you dodge against your will in combat)
Jump: Space (Jumping = no attacks with casttime, so for god sake dont jump unless you have to)
what else is there?
PS: I use a Logitech G400 which is very nice imho. 2 extra buttons are all you need for a game like GW2.

People don’t take Rangers you say?
I like the idea too.
Unfortunately, the pet is nothing more than a liability, even when traited :-(
Buff other ranger traits. Ende of story.
And it prevents you from stomping and dodging even in pvp
What build are you using?
Imho buffing pet speed for melee pets is the best idea.
Add a little autoattack casttime reduction and we have a pet that can actually hit things.
animations are unreadable on every class, since most weapon skills use similar animations / have a casttime at 0.5s / dont have a casttime at all / can be used while moving
IMHO: More skills should lock the player in place, have slightly longer casttimes or very unique animations.
What NOT should be changed is the autoattack range of different races, since this is just nonsense.

there are some builds for every class in this post
Happens often enought that your pet walks out of range. If the trait really affects the active effect its, like I said, even worse since it leaves you with even more conditions instead of cleansing them.
for the wolve fear its good to know, that its a lot more reliable when the pet is already close to your target so it does not need to run towards it first.
the sad thing is, that this is as far from trolling as it can get.
That actually just happend in my last tPvP solo match. I was defending a point with a H/LB warri against an MM Necro, (some) Warri and a thief, and we totally kicked kitten :-P
The (enemy) warri turned out to be a beginner, so it basicly was 2 v 2. But hey, the amount of Might and CC was just “stunning”
PS: for LB/GS try 30/10/0/30, its a roamer build but a great deal of fun!
Seriously, signet of renewal is designed pretty bad, since it is the only signet that does not benefit from the grandmaster trait signet of the beastmaster.
And if it was, it would be even crappier
So either the trait needs a rework, or the signet.
The way it is now is just weird.
true, those combo fields you dish out are just a real gamechanger in teamfights.
I’d even go as far as to say that the combo fields have the potential to offer greater support than a spirit ranger (if used correctly)
I love the synergy you have with the build by yourself already with the wolves cc, combofields and mightstacking.
1 question: you say LB/Gs has poor condi removal.
In the build Im deep in the nature magic tree so there is no empathetic bond, but in exchange I have signet of renewal that has a pretty similar effect.
Both builds have healing spring. (so imho both builds have same amount of condi removal)
still, I feel like the power build is much harder to play against condi stackers than your trap build. I dont see the reason why?
edit: nvm, 3 condi / 10s <→ 1 condi /10s
(edited by Aeri.5738)
tried it, love it.
1 exception: changed fern hound to wolve for obvious reasons.
Very good pointdefender with fun gameplay.
Not as fun as my gs/lb build, but a nice change once in a while.
This is definetly going on my list ;-)
Traps are very active, since you dont put them down and wait for anybody to trigger them. You use them as ground AOE and try to throw them underneath your enemy so they deal their damage when YOU decide it.
Unfortunately, you can forgett about trapper since you dont have any stunbreak / condi removal
Im saying its not a real powerbuild, its a BM build
No you dont, you just have a description for a standard BM build o.O
what build are you running exactly?
this is what I use and it totally wrecks
http://intothemists.com/calc/?build=-Fg-o;1wE-v-f2ZDV-0;9V8E;1T9-T-38A0;3489;1L-k3;2LNW4LNW46Bi
Oh darn, there is ONE class that can counter ONE spell you have.
You are right, I quit playing ASAP!
I can easily hold a point against 2 enemies with my powerbuild, but this is not even the point of the build. Its a roamer build and it serves its purpose perfectly by being versatile and efficient at the same time.
I change the tide of battle wherever I come with my CC, Waterfield, and Damage.
[GS/LB/Soldiers] Power Build 30/10/0/30/0 is super viable in solo tPvP.
Super fast point to point movement, good point defend abilities with 2 Knockbacks and a huge amount of stability.
Great Clash support from afar with LBs awesome Long Range damage.
Almost permafury with RaO + the new GS trait + Weaponswap.
Awesome mightstacking.
Best Point: a lot of fun to play.
Dont say its not viable if you dont know how to use it.
This game is not all about 1vX pointless zergs between map objectives. (although this build is doing a great job even doing that…)
what is a cmc? (15 stupid characters)
You know that someones spit on your face when you hear Grouch saying
“Not to mention that a trait with damage, range, and permanent fury seems sort of crazy. Ranger will see improvements, but this isn’t the way to do it.”Y like another Spirit i geuss…
Kitten you all, you do kitten job with this game..Its been a year and Rangers still need Empathetic bond, still play kitten AI cond speccs and still cant rely on our pets….You have no idea what a class needs, you dont listen to what players need and you want this to go esports my kitten.Your game is slowly dying and more MMO will come out soon…
And we payed you for this kitten..
You are right about the pets. Only about the pets.
using LB/GS 30/10/0/30/0 (still without eagly eye while it was bugged) and its pretty fun to play
Try 30/10/0/30/0, ranger runes and soldiers amulet + berserker gem
After the patch this build got a huge buff
Awesome patch, 30/10/0/30/0 is so much fun to play!
Permastability with a good uptime of 25% extra damage is huge.
Im having so much fun running 30/10/0/30 right now
great update
Im planning to try
30/20/0/20 (GS /Axe WH with Signets)
20/0/20/30 (Clerics with spirits)
Hey guys!
This thread is to give the devs some concrete ideas of what the playerbase would like to see in future updates.
Here are the rules:
1) Post 1 skill you would like to change and how
2) Post 1 skill you would like to see added to the ranger
Example:
1) Axe Skill 1:
The skill needs to get more effective in 1v1 situations, because right now it’s effectiveness is extremely situational.
The initial hit should either add condi damage or deal more direct damage while the additional hits should be tuned down to compensate.
This would make the axe synergize better with the skirmishing traitline where most of its traits are placed.
2) Elite Skill “Raging Roar”
- Shout, 120s CD
The ranger and his/her pet become one for 10 seconds, granting the ranger the shape of his/her current pet (while the pet itself becomes inactive)
The ranger has the same attributes and benefits from all traits effecting the pet.
Damage is increased by 75%, Health is reduced by 50%.
The ranger can only use the petskills.
If the health of the ranger drops below 0 the effect ands and the pet is downed. Otherwise the ranger and the pet split up after 10 seconds.
Looking forward to see your ideas!
hey guys, it’s been a while since I played my guardian and I had a super fun and hard hitting GS build with great survivability for sPvP and tPvP.
any idea what that build might be?
I’m pretty sure it had 30 Points in Valor
I think the simplest solution to your problem is this,
Don’t play Ranger.
while this may sound harsh, this is exactly what I did.
since I rerolled bow warrior I had a great time (until I quit because PvP is just dull in gw2 ^^)
2v2 / 3v3 Arena mode.
- Arena Seasons
- Arena skins based on how well you did
- Arena finishers
- Arena Rank to achieve skins
From now on consider me and 5 Others rangers I know in ^^ real life ^^ quitting this game.
And who knows how many are still considering this idea.
Good job Arenanet you suck as always
You quit every 2 weeks, so who cares?
^ this and nothing else, except maybe high level fractals.
Ranger simply is the class with the least build diversity. We have 1 viable build, spirits. 1 ok’ish build, trapper, and the rest is only useable when you are unnoticed in a group fight.
In pve rangers became top class after people found the builds and realised their roles. Not so much in tPvP (except spiritrs ofc)
S = Superior (Highest Tier)
A = Average (All classes should strive to be here)
B = Below Average
C =

I agree that animations need to be tuned down to improve visibility.
This applies mostly for aoe. On the other hand, you can’t tell what’s going on by looking at castanimations, so they need to become more unique and more noticeable. At the same time, aoe effects need to be self explaining.
Example: everybody knows rangers barrage or the eles AoEs.
You can tell what’s going on by looking at the animation.
For Guardians, every symbol looks the same, you never know what actually happens. If many AoE’s come together, you just notice red circles.
The solution is to make animations less flashy but at the same time more noticeable.
A castbar would also be a very helpful tool for watchers and players.
I would love to have staff, but there are some good reasons why this is never going to happen:
1) Anet doesnt implement new weapons, they have enough work for balancing and fixing the old ones.
New weapons require new traits which requires even more balancing.
2) Ranger already has a pretty good weaponchoice, there is no real need to add a second one
Anyways, thats how I would love staff:
1)
3 Attack chain
1: Swipe (1/4)
2: Stab (1/4), Vulnerability (3stacks) for 1 second
3: Whirl (2/4) hit enemies surrounding you twice.
2) Windslash: A fast overhead slash, producing a cutting windblow. 600 Range, straight line. You and your pet gain swiftness for 5 sec.
3) Slam, 700 Range
The Ranger leaps towards the target area, slamming the ground in a 400 Range area.
Applies cripple(2sec) and daze(1sec)
4) Defensive strike
The ranger hits all enemies around him, blocking attacks and reflecting projectiles (1sek)
5) whatever
