as said no effect on gameplay. Now I think Charm is clearly the best (RP perspective) for a Mesmer.
Hi! This is indeed an issue that we’re looking into and will update when we get a fix ready. Thanks for the report!
May I suggest an easy fix? Make it insta cast. Problem solved.
Some minor traits are way better than major ones. At least for Mesmer.
1. Clones = copies of your character that spam your #1 attack. Deal 0 direct damage but deal full conditions damage (relevant for staff e.g.). They have a small health pool but are easy to generate.
Phantasms = magical purple turrets that deal lots of damage every 5-10 sec. Very fragile (exception: the Defender) and have long CD.
Illusions = generic term to designate both clones and phantasms. Up to 3 Illusions can be sacrificed through Shatter skills (F1-F4).
At low levels the best minor trait you can get is “Illusionist Celerity” (Illusion tree). Every skill that can generate an illusion will recharge faster = 50% of your skill bar.
2. All! 1x phantasm with every weapon set. Meaning you have access to 2 phantasms during a fight. There are also 2x utilities phantasm you can unlock but damage isn’t their true purpose.
3. Illusion death = monster killed it = nothing happens(w/o special traits)
Illusion shatter = suicide (F1-F4) = good
You should shatter as often as possible. When:
*your skills (phantasms) are recharged or
*your illusions are under attack or
*your phantasms just finished their attacks or
*the target is low health (less than 50%)
= it’s a good time to shatter

what you are looking for is called “berserker”. Going full Precision in Power build isn’t worthy. As you can see here http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Critical_hit#Table. Precision without Critical damage and baseline Power will not get you the highest damage output.
And last thing: Conditions can crit in their own way :
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Precise_Strikes
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Sharpened_Edges
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Burning_Precision
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Barbed_Precision
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Sigil_of_Earth
A Precision+Condition damage stats mix is actually a good one. Ask the Necros!
Nah that wasn’t that super-buggy-chest. It was more like a bag. Actually the name was something like “loot bag” (I play in french so for me it was written “sac de butin”).
Typically the bags the event Skritt thief leaves behind her as Yargesh suggested. But I never saw that event running at those place and usually I notice it (and hear it) from far (“Shiny! Shiny!”). Anyway I’ll try to pay attention next time :-)
Since 2 days I noticed new loot chest/bags in some place of the world with every time a uncommon item. Now I’m sure I never saw them before in such place since I rolled many alts in those zones. They are not related to mobs kills/event reward and don’t require channeling to be open. I don’t have screenshot since it disappears as soon as I pick the item.
I found notably many of them here http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Darkriven_Bluffs
and there http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Giant%27s_Passage
bugs are getting fixed. Just look at 28th January update. It’s slow but it’s getting done. I think 50% of release bugs have been removed.
Let’s say all the players of a “Full” server decide to quit playing simultaneously for about 3 months.
Will that server be unavailable for new players to join?
I believe server populations for certain servers have decreased in the past months. Their status may say they are full but in reality not many players are really on that server.
How would Anet combat this if this scenario is possible?
Does the server limit change when there are less players on at any given time?
Server status reflect their actual state. Meaning a “full” server is at the given time really full. It fluctuates over the day (minimum in the morning, maximum during the evening)
Not sure why you would state confusion hits higher I never seen a confusion hit me more then 400 a tick,
Retaliaztion makes my own attacks hit me back which can be 11k Damage at a time …
Sorry but … everything you said is wrong.
Confusion is “condition damage” dependent and stacks in intensity. It’s 130 damage per stack. That means every action you do -even self heal- punishes you for 1300 damage if you are under 10x confusion. (damage are halved in sPVP). Punishment every time you hit a key.
Retaliation is “power” dependent and stacks in duration. It’s 200 damage every time you hit the target (even when blocked). So punishment every time you hit. (nothing to do with a reflection of damage like Thaco said)
Let’s say you launch 100B on a mesmer who is under retaliation while you are under 10x stacks of confusion: you are punished once because of confusion (1300 damage) and you are punished 8x times because of retaliation (100H hits 8x) so that’s 1600 damage.
Now some facts:
1) Confusion is harder to get than retaliation. Especially 10x stacks. Because it stacks in duration Confusion is quickly off. It’s totally to get nearly perma Retaliation on while it’s impossible so far I know to maintain 10xConfusion more than a few seconds.
2) Confusion is a condition. Every classes can easily remove conditions. Retaliation is a boon. Some classes have trouble removing boons on their enemies.
3) Confusion is easy to notice (purple edge on your screen) while Retaliation can often be missed if the target has many boons at the same time (typically Guardian)
4) In situation of multi hits skill use (like 100B) retaliation >>> confusion
5) Confusion is often limited to one target while retaliation affect all of them
6) And last but not least: play a confusion mesmer in PVE. You’ll get why confusion isn’t OP.

Isn’t supply required to upgrade camp?
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Camp#Upgrades
Not to mention if someone (or a full guild) comes by and wants to refill his supplies he can’t. Or if a tower is beeing attacked the door cannot be repaired by players.
Now I don’t think you can be reported for that but is this achievement worthwhile?
to show how powerfull the upscaling is for fract’s
1k damage from an iDuelist isn’t what I call powerfull. I don’t recall you gain xp with fractals like you do with dungeon runs. So what is the purpose of this?
- iWarden (traited): offense, defense and utility in a same skill :-) 5/5
- iBerserker: cripple, DE multi targets tagging 5/5
- iSwordman: the only phantasm who use his attack range successfully (he moves around his target) does he have better AI? 5/5
- iWarlock: only deals damage but still very reliable 4/5
- iDuelist: he doesn’t know he has a 1200 range (always try to go 900). Stupid illusion. Without that he would be better than iWarlock 4/5
and the bullets have now only 20% chance to trigger the combo - iDefender: can prevent a one shot death. Good overall but situational use 3/5
- iDisenchanter: stupider than iDuelist, this little guy thinks he’s Defender. I use it versus heavy condition situations (when Null field isn’t enough). 2/5
- iMage: okay for confusion build. Why his bouncing attack cannot be traited? 1/5
it’s still free ectos.
you may be just very unlucky. Don’t forget what randomness is: the game doesn’t check what you looted before when it rolls the dice (“Oh this poor gamer had 33x porous bones, let’s give him a green to make him less sad”).
to get the 6x Might you have to be close enough (the bouncing is limited to 600). Try it on a single mob with no one around.
every time there is a maintenance the .exe file is re-downloaded even if it’s the same.
ascended rebreathers. That would be amazingly awesome.
I dont’ know. I wouldn’t personally use some of my precious laurels to get an item only for underwater combat. And since rebreathers act as helm, an ascended rebreather would suppose you could get ascended terrestial helm i.e. ascended armor gear.
Wow good to know. I was totally wrong. A bit disappointed though. That means IP -mesmer own damage- is weaker when you have more than 1 illusion (yeah in my head IP damage is a guaranteed damage while illusions might die before reaching their shatter target)
Wiki About tooltip of Mind Wrack (http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Mind_Wrack) :
Damage: 280 (1 illusion)
Damage (2x): 378 (2 illusions)
Damage (3x): 492 (3 illusions)
Damage listed is the total damage; with more illusions the damage per illusion goes down.
So damage from MW is divided between each illusion.
I’m 100% sure IP count as a separate shatter so it deals full damage. Now if you shatter 3x illusions they deal 164 (492/3) individually while your IP AoE deals 280.
You just managed to nearly insult 3 people… just to prove that you’re opinion is gold?
So long I know there is no [PVP] in the title of this thread so I suppose PVE players aren’t persona non grata.
OH sword may be garbage in sPVP (and WvW for sure) I still find it better than pistol in PVE. Because mobs in PVE have no brains and won’t dodge.
I personally think the skill is backwards, it should be a dash to the target, leaving a clone at your position, like a reverse phase retreat, that way, even if you’re at 601 range, you’re at least getting SOMETHING from the skill, rather than “lolol ur 2 far awai, no skill 4 u, but u can has this cooldown if u want lolol”
Please have my Like ! Best idea to fix it and shouldn’t be difficult to program.
@Animando.
Sword Phantasm > duelist? :/ recent threads?Yes the damage is better.. sword phantasm is easy to dodge, and iDuelist is impossible to dodge as it is 2-3 seconds of straight dps which follows invisible targets while also being ranged and not subject to being rapefaced by anyone throwing down any sort of aoe.
please read this—> https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/mesmer/Phant-Duelist-or-Phant-Swordsman/first#post1403415
And the fact that you don’t care about PVE doesn’t mean nobody should.
Blink is a shadow step or like you said “running really fast”. That means you can can only get to place you could reach without jumping.
Like in GW1 there are actually very few real TP. Portal is one of them.
The warden is imho… the most underpowered phantasm.. while the AoE cc + Swiftness uptime +Retaliation uptime is great… the warden makes focus weak imho..
I switch through all the offhand weapons.. but Torch/focus/sword seems weak compared to pistol..
I feel much stronger with s/p over any other combination..
I feel like I’m forced into GS for dps when I run s/f.. while in s/p I can take staff and feel like I’m only gaining power with combinations like CS+Duelist..
Decrease dps, make it mobile ? :/ I dunno.. (seen 4k full damage from warden)
There are plenty of recent threads proving that off hand sword phantasm > iDuelist
iWarden is a good phantasm and since I traited it I find it awesome. Remember these annoying Fire Smugs that pop during the boss fight in Grawl Lava Fractal? iWarden makes dust of them.
Trust me: Mesmer isn’t just about GS and S/P.
Now to the OP: Illusions are bound to their target (one of their worst disadvantage). Making iWarden ground targetable means there is no target needed? It brokes the whole concept behing Illusions.
I’d rather see a global fix about all phantasms ranges : they should move between attack salves w/o getting unnecessarily too close (like iMage does).
(edited by Animando.7956)
So basically we have a reliable 4sec “invulnerability” with 25sec CD. Even guardians don’t have that ! :-)
Thanks for the sharing!
Well if you have a +100% MF that means 1% of chance looting rare items becomes 2%
Not something a human being can perceive but if you keep statistics over the long run you will see a difference.
I use rune of Centaur for WvW.
Ruby Orbs for PVE.
Rune of Lyssa, Mesmer or Divinity for sPVP.
why not both? GS is offensive, Staff is defensive.
I cannot tell which weapon is best because I find a good reason to use them all (yeah, even scepter and torch) depending on the situation. At the moment I run:
WvW: GS+S/F
Dungeon/fractals with big rooms: Staff+GS
Dungeon/fractals with tiny rooms: Scepter/Pistol/Focus+Staff
PVE Exploration: GS+S/P/F/T
PVE Events: Staff+GS
… So I find a debate “A vs B” not relevant. It would be better to ask: In such situation (describe) which weapons choice is appropriate?
I just forgot to actually read the OP … Well for PVE solo GS is best IMO because of the fast 6xMight buff -> powerful shatters and frenzy. Staff takes too much time to kill a single weak target and the buffing phase (might and fury) isn’t fast enough.
(edited by Animando.7956)
GW1 Faction launched exactly one year after Prophecies. I think it will be the same for GW2.
No runspeed signet or decent duration swiftness buffs, and no self healing. Isnt it going to be pretty much impossible to level without those two things? …
Also what do Mesmers do in WvW? I dont see them as an AoE class which is all zergs do these days is stack Eles and whoever has the most seems to win.
Speed signets aren’t mandatory to level up…. Don’t forget that prior to their buff (+25% instead of +10%) only Thief had a good one. At level 60 you have access to the sup rune of the Centaur which solves the problem :-D
No self healing? Well we are no Water Ele but I suppose we do not worse than other professions: Ether Feast is a solid heal. And don’t forget we have illusions that tank for us.
Mesmers have tons of relevant Utilities for WvW: they don’t just spam damage. And ZergVSZerg isn’t the only thing you can do in WvW. Better playing in a small party.
Greatsword. I still can’t make up my mind if I would roll with pure Glass Cannon Crit Build
Yeah! Free loot bags for other players!
As long as cunning isn’t resolved, a thief has a main advantage over his opponents: perma invisibility.
Daze is an effect caused by some skills which interrupts and prevents the target from using skills for a period of time. It does not stack in duration.
It’s nowhere written it stacks. Anyway I also find Diversion useful to put 20x vulnerabilities on a target (when Mind Wrack is on CD for example) :-)
it’s a tiny % so please stop complaining about everything in the game. And lots of people in my guild actually love this reminder. Maybe they will put the option to remove it one day but it’s the thing I care the least about.
GW2 UI is ultra clean VS …
Once charged (with a projectile that deals 100% damage) Mimic fully blocks ALL non ranged attacks while reflecting ranged ones which is incredibly useful to survive 10 people chasing you in WvW. But I agree with you: it’s totally bugged. It does things it shouldn’t and vice versa.
Anyway: I am totally against more skills as long as we have bugged/unbalanced traits/skills/tooltips in the game.
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/List_of_all_skills
Because more is not always better.
Delryn.7235: Mimic is good when fighting alone. And once charged it’s a 4sec invulnerability with a 25sec cooldown. There are worse utilities.
*kill 50 moas in WvW
*watch 10 vistas without skipping
*kill 5 veterans without dodging during the fight
*accomplish Arah story again
NO
Because more levels = more trait points and as long as they don’t fix/balance all classes they should’t add anything to the metagame.
And more levels =/= more fun (look at WoW)
Staff themes are randomness and support. So vulnerability might not the best condition you can hope for but it is still useful for your party mates and your phantasms.
And no, staff isn’t our condition weapon since it’s an hybrid one (look at the sorcerer > pure burst damage). Scepter/torch fits more as a condition set but is still hybrid. Our only truly condition weapon is trident.
I guess I’d want a character that levels fairly quickly and can stand well on its own. As far as end game considerations go, I don’t like PvP that much, so it doesn’t really matter to me how well the Mesmer, Elementalist, or Necromancer do in that arena. I would like to play a character that deals solid damage and brings good utility to dungeons.
You should really look at the profession mechanic (watch PVE videos?). Do you prefer to:
*be able to change your play style instantly to adjust to the situation quickly? (ele)
*spam pets that get 50% of your job done and dueling like no one else (mesmer)
*be a caster and wear a plate armor (necro)
Because damage output, utility support and survival depend mainly on build.

And my personal contribution: boost(/fix) all the signets!
chests in their actual form bring nothing (beside being totally bugged). When I first read the patch note I was all: Whoah! This is so great!
Because I thought chests would pop up on the right side of the screen like daily&monthly chests do.
This would make it less of a pain in the kitten for people who aren’t able to play at the exact hours optimal for the current reset time,
Please tell me not that your only free time to play is between 23:59 GTM and 0:01 GTM. Because that is the only valid case to complain.
whoua buying runes and sigils for a level 10 char is … expensive.
Just buy/find standard power/precision gear and run with Greatsword/Sword+Pistol.
im really confused as to why this class has such low level damage… very unnapealing
Mesmers are very dependent of their traits and utility skills. More than any other class.
1) the monthly requirements is at 30
2) it was told 100 000 000x that January monthly won’t get you laurels so the devs told us to do the monthly ASAP
3) there is a fast way to get the jump puzzle requirement. Just google it.
The patch note is incomplete: nothing about the changes done to trident mesmer skills.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/mesmer/Underwater-Nerf-change/first#post1311525
I’m angry. Not about the nerf for trident since it’s a fix but because they shadow changed it.
Why don’t they write it in their patch notes??? Any change is anyway noticed by the players.
it’s less than 1Gb. And the percents are meant for the files number NOT their size.
You know, there are also NPCs who are down in some areas. Your argument is invalid.
