For speed leveling Reaper I would suggest a combination of the two do PvE for Old Tyria as the online resources and maps are plentiful but use WvW heroics for the Maguuma points as many of them require Mastery levels and group effort.

There seems to be something very odd happening to this skill, I noticed when I used it in the middle of a fight I would seem to “About face” 180 away from my target before snapping back around and the skill actually going after them and I lost distance because of this. (it feels)

General Reaper Feedback

I would pretty much be repeating what everyone else said, so to keep it short.

Shouts
[Your Soul is Mine] needs something the heal is at the moment very weak and needs help, Either buff the amount it heals by or find some other way to help it either way.

[Rise] Just terrible it needs a complete overhaul either with the “No Escape” idea or a really beefy minion to summon.

[Chilled to the Bone] I actually like this but I think the cast time needs a slight reduction.

Reaper Shroud

This is good but you need to do something about how Reaper Shroud #2 works the “leap” is really awkward and should stop at the target if you have one.

Reaper shroud #5 I think just needs to hit the person you have as current target with the Stun/Ice-block or the nearest person to the middle.

Greatsword

[Auto Attack Chain] I barely used this at all in a PvP scenario it feels like the cast time on the 3rd chain (Chill) is to slow and the duration of the Chill is not worth it, Duration needs to be upped or the cast times need to be lower.

[Gravedigger] Needs to do more damage again I don’t think I used this to actually attack anyone seriously it got more use from me trying to get Leeching Bolts out of Nightfall.

The reduction on cooldown for hitting a foe below 50% needs to be a full cooldown. At the moment it just feels awkward.

[Nightfall] Could do with a wider radius I feel, Also the After-cast is a pain though you can cancel it with some practice it would be better to just not have it if possible.

[Grasping Darkness] This is odd. It really should go towards the target not like it is in the current incarnation or heck it could be an AoE pull like on Binding blade? Also why poison? Why not Cripple or a mobility condition?

[Chilling Nova] With a 15s cooldown it will not get taken as is the cooldown needs to be reduced wasn’t it meant to be 3 times in 10s? Why not this again?

Id be more concerned about them putting an ICD on chilling force than blighters boon.

Well technically it already has a 1 second per target ICD, according to the description of the trait on the wiki, but I feel like the traits effects are too weak for little chill most builds not using GS autos will be able to put out.

And so it begins….

Also on the wiki, Chilling Nova has a 15 second ICD.

EDIT: So, even more lousy news.

  • Shivers of Dread: reduced to 2 seconds of Chill on Fear from 3.
  • Cold Shoulder: reduced to 10% damage reduction from 15%. Also reduced to 10% Chill duration from 20%.
  • Chilling Nova reduced to 2 seconds of Chill from 3. 180 radius.
  • No stun break at all on shouts.
  • Gravedigger reduced to 3 targets from 5.
  • Nightfall does not Cripple, though it does blind and damage on each pulse. 300 radius, 4 seconds
  • Executioner’s Scythe is 1.5 seconds of Chill. Not sure what it was before, but this is ridiculously short.

But hey! Chilling Force had its Might duration buffed from 4 seconds to 5!

I haven’t seen these before and I’m rather skeptical of Wiki’s due to the ease to edit them.

Are we sure this is accurate. o.o And if so wow? Really? Without even the Beta?

Sorry I didn’t do the last Beta due to work times so this has confused me a little.

You have to have the equipment you want on your Reaper in your bank prior to creation so Soldiers Armor, Runes and Sigils? Or is this just things like Skins?

If we had to use the current Minions we have at hand. (But not Golem because you know that’s Elite)

I think I’d vote either for a Blood Fiend or for Bone Fiend though personally I’m more partial to the Bone Fiend if they made it work like a Mesmer Phantasm summon.

Eg. ~ Rise shout is cast and hits 3 players so a Bone minion is summoned to attack each of these players. Each Bone minion each instantly uses it’s [Rigor Mortis] attack on it’s respective target (The player who got hit to generate them) for an Immobilize (2s) before reverting back to it’s normal Crippling attack. Sort of like how a Phantasm Duelist will summon and use Unload strait off.

But that is just my idea using the existing minions if we get a new one so much the better.

Traits have been completely revamped there isn’t a 0/x/x/x/0 anymore. You get to choose 3 trait lines now and all of them go strait up to Grandmaster.

I’m not and never was a really good Condition Necro so I can’t really suggest anything for builds or gear but anyway big changes.

- Blood magic has become beastly and we can now siphon health through Deathshroud.

- Signet builds are pretty good/fun.

- We are getting a Greatsword when the expansion comes out with the Subclass “Reaper” as each class is getting a “Specialization”, Focus on Chill and being a Movie Monster.

- A lot of skills like Plague, Consume Conditions and Lich have been giving skill types like Corruption and Spectral so they can have a trait for cool down and such things and took hits because of this.

- Beware Consume Conditions it took a hit and I wouldn’t want you to go into any form of PvP without checking it out as it now applies Vulnerability to you on use and if it’s traited for cooldown it will also self apply Blind.

- Overall? We are better but we still not very high up on the ladder.

I still play Necromancer but I don’t play as much/often as I used to.

I don’t solo-roam anymore and I will rarely go into sPvP unless someone I know who doesn’t really care about rankings/winning is forming a party, That isn’t to say I don’t think I could hold my own because I’m Necromancer but if they are going super serious with it I’d rather not take up a slot better gifted to another player/profession more suited to the job.

And PvE well you can still PvE you just can’t speed through it like some others but then you don’t need to either so sometimes I’ll still go Silverwastes or whatever. ~.~

It may not be the perfect solution but going into Jug only gives Stability right? So other conditions affect them?

Hit them with everything you can to slow them, Cripple, Chill and remember they are not immune to Immobilize so slap them with Tainted Shackles and try your best to out kite them however you can until it hits them alternative being Main hand dagger 3.

Weakness also should help as will any Blinds you can hit them with. Dagger 4, Well of Darkness or Putrid Mark on a Well you cast for the blind blast.

Ignore the Stability you won’t remove it in time by yourself so focus on what Stability cannot stop.

If they use Berserker Stance I’m not really sure how we can deal with that other than being really clever with terrain to block them/get in their way and wait it out.

Alright, you guys know the drill! How are the changes so far? Either answer these questions for me or just talk about what you feel is important to mention for Necromancer.

Specific questions:

  1. Blood line is clearly awesome. How’s the death line? Are you using it at all in non-minion master builds?
  2. Condi was thought to be really bad before everything came out. Have you tried out This build by Zombify? How did you like it?
  3. Have you been successfully running any odd builds such as minion master or bunker?
  4. Yes, I already have feedback on CC and Plague. I nearly ran lich on my terrormancer. I stopped mid fight to say in say chat to my enemies “Can we take a moment to recognize the fact that my Flesh Golem is literally not helping me at all?”

1 – I did consider it for a while as a Power build for the Condition removal and protection but I opted for Blood Magic instead, If I end up not using Signets I might opt into Death Magic.

2 – Can’t say I have tried that build, Haven’t really seen anyone using it either but I haven’t been paired up against many Necromancers at all in PvP.

3 – I’ve been running a D/D ~ Staff build in sPvP Power built and based in Spite, Blood Magic and Soul Reaping. I’m not sure if that counts as odd as I’ve been told I’m “Meant” to go into Curses but but i’ll provide a link for it just in case.

4 – I’m running Lich but I haven’t actually used it that much, When I have I’ve mostly just gone into Lich dropped 5 to remove mass boons and dropped back out so Blood Magic can help the team fight with Transfusion and Signet application. Golem just doesn’t do anything in PvP.

5 ~ Additional, Blood Magic minor for Mark on Evasion I think needs to be changed to only drop marks when you are in combat. Otherwise when you try to dodge to avoid combat it just doesn’t work.

Yeah the Minion AI can be a little off in the clouds.

How are you planning the level up however? I would assume PvE (In which case I wouldn’t be much help I prefer PvP so hopefully someone else will come along and help.) but it’s better to be sure.

Though I believe you now get Consume Conditions as your standard heal when you roll a new Necromancer which would have been great before they added the 10 stacks of Vulnerability to it’s cost. I would suggest swapping this probably for Signet of Vampirism because it will get better later with traits and at least it heals you through Deathshroud in passive and won’t hurt you to cast it for the bigger heal.

Watching the Livestream at the moment it would appear with Master of Corruption trait added Plague will also apply Poison to you not just bleed.

Seemed like he had about 2 stacks of bleed and poison on him consistently while in Plague running the trait.

And what is this Shelter Treatment?

Consume Conditions was giving to the skill set “Corruptions” so it is under the effect of traits that buff Corruptions however (We suspect) because of this it has been hit pretty hard with both a longer cooldown and condition application after use…Which really doesn’t make any sense for a Condition clear skill but there we go.

Shelter on the other hand (Guardian Heal) was deemed to be fine as it was and was just left as is, It wasn’t put into a particular skill set so they haven’t had to tweak it.

By giving Consume Conditions the “Shelter Treatment” people mean they want Consume Conditions to be a skill with no type and reverted back to normal so it won’t be touched by traits but also won’t be on a 30s cooldown and stack you with 10% extra damage after you use it via Vulnerability.

Possible though I wouldn’t say that would mean that they would be selfish.

When I first read that thread I thought about what A-net said about Necromancer wanting to be hit? Well If we do get Stances what if that is the point?

Lets look for example at Defiant Stance, This is an example of a stance where you want to get hit because each hit you take while the Stance is active will heal you. I would imagine this could also translate into a way to aid a party or provide group support in a sacrificial form (Look at other Necromancer skills like Blood is Power, Epidemic where you have to take a hit like poison or bleeding to gain an advantage).

If I were to simply make up an example of one right now you could have a stance that while active grants yourself and nearby allies Fury and Might stacks each time you are hit.

I don’t know though I’m not to great at this I’ll let someone else do the fine detail theory crafting on the concept but I would guess Stances could still provide support to a party like that.

I’m not big on balance I generally just run around and try to fight things rather than caring if something is or isn’t overpowered. But I wonder if it would be worth merging Chilling Darkness (Curses) with Bitter Chill (Spite) and moving it up to Spite trait line. Maybe reduce the Vulnerability down a few stacks? (3?) Otherwise I feel Chilling Darkness may not see much use and this would open up a slot for a new trait to be created for the Curses line or wherever if they want to shuffle some about.

In addition on the Curses 25s cool down on Enfeebling blood feels a bit harsh and maybe we should look at reducing that cool down a little. Also a little distressed by the apparent lack of Power orientated grand master traits in the Curses line.

Again I’m not much for balance discussion so feel free to rage at me or what not, but if I think of anything else i’ll add it later.

Dragon Age got Reavers.

but it’s one of the more probable candidates, imo. Along with Reaper. But there are already Reapers of Grenth and gods like grenth are a human thing.

Hexblade would be my personal favourite and would fit the necro well, but i never heard of it outside of DnD.

Maybe just ‘Hexer’ is an option?

That has nothing to do with Spectral walk that is all the effect of the Fear Wall.

Also to that point this only really works in EoTM not general WvW and definately will not work in Spvp.

It’s quite easy to counter the Necromancer has to position themselves correctly for the Fear to have maximum effect and it is quite easily countered by taking and using a Stun breaker (Good practice in general) or just not walking into the big wall of Fear in front of you without Stability active (Also good practice in general).

My friend do not give up on us that easy.

We may not be the super optimal class that is the top of everything but we all play to have fun right? If you enjoy playing the Dark Mage ideal/theme then play it there is no point in playing a class that is “Good Meta” that you find boring especially as you said yourself if you are the type of person who picks a main and stick to it.

Besides that we have a patch coming up so you never know what might happen to Necro iirc we will find out in 2 weeks time.

If it helps though put you at ease I’ve done PvP, Large and small scale group engagements in WvW, Roaming and PvE on my Necromancer and it has preformed admirably throughout.

I use staff on power builds.

Same, Putrid Mark is something I really love to have especially when you combine it with a quick placed Chillbains to remove Conditions and drop Weakness on them when you are Glass making them glance is very nice.

Not to mention how useful Chill and Poison can be on it’s own.

Caithe is missing, Trahearne mentioned something along the lines of this attack being to convenient with it’s timing and there likely being someone aware of the summit involved and Scarlet knew a secret about Caithe that no one else knows?

I’ve dueled on all sorts of Lifeforce though I think 50% is fair in WvW.

The guild you are fighting seems like they just wanted an advantage if needs be point out to them even in Spvp servers Necromancers are allowed to summon two minions for Lifeforce before starting a duel.

I solo roamed a lot before I did it on a Power Necro and for a while it was all I would do but I’ve stopped recently, I haven’t even left spawn in WvW in two and a half weeks.

It was fun but the more guilds and transfers that come to Tier 2 it seems the less people I get to play with who also solo roam.

It really does feel like numbers are drastically falling for solo encounters so at the moment I am in the middle of deciding if I want to leave the tier and try and find somewhere more to my taste or staying and only doing Spvp until my guild does a Havoc squad.

Well here are my two Extremely Optimistic choices for the year.

Shade replaces Foot in the Grave as a Grandmaster trait.

If everyone is due to get a revealed it could (I know it won’t but pray with me here) be on Staff 5 fear? I’m not really a group/Zerg Necro here but wouldn’t that be nice? Enemy veils and you just remove them with your staff?

As for what might happen I don’t know maybe Dark Path on Deathshroud could move a little faster?

I roam about with Dual Daggers in WvW both Solo and in a group they aren’t obsolete at all and have great burst damage.

You’re Dagger #3 is one of if not your best ability with Dagger and keep in mind that Immobilize works and will root the enemy even if they have Stability up to stop your fear’s and people tend to forget that.

And afaik you have all your traits unlocked in sPvP right? So you can just give them a test drive if you want? Though I highly suggest you go full 6 into Spite and Soul Reaping each for Close to Death or Dhuumfire and Death Perception.

So for Golem the fear procs on both the Initial summon and the Charge? That is interesting.

That said have you tried using Golem and Krait runes before an Epi? Get off a Poison, Bleed and Torment stack on the charge.

I think it is just down to preference.

Air does have a lower cooldown on it’s ability with 3s if I remember right while Fire has a cooldown of 5s but Fire is an AoE effect while Air is not.

I take it purely because it is AoE as when roaming you’ll more often than not find yourself outnumbered or that more people will jump in and when Dueling it makes me feel better about fighting Mesmers.

Though honestly you bring up a good point it really depends on what you are comfortable doing same with my armor, runes and trinkets.

This is what I am using currently, with the exact gear included. If you want to use it don’t worry about the Asc. Trinkets you can do just as well with Exotic. Mostly I will roam or duel with this build it isn’t really for Large group combat if you want to do that I would suggest Wells.

Just because it’s Berserker don’t underestimate the Conditions you have at your disposal with Staff and Dagger and Dhuumfire, Burn adds damage to foes who can go immune to your normal damage (Warriors) or Invisible to avoid your attacks (Mesmers and thieves) while Conditions like Immobilize, Chill and Poison and great all round.

I think Leeto put up a build similar to this with the traits if you can find the thread it might help you, And if you have any questions I will try and write out a guide for you.

I’ll try to add more later as I’m a little busy at the moment but if you are a Power Necro I would suggest the following.

Take a Spectral Stun break either Armor or Walk though I have a preference for Spectral walk as most thieves now seem to trait 30 into Trickery for Slight of Hand this effectively gives them a stun every 20s or so and as a Necromancer stuns are very bad for us.

I also like to take Dhuumfire on my Power builds now that it is on Lifeblast as you can time it with your bursts from DS and Burn damage it quite high even without investing into Condition damage and make an excellent distraction.

I like the Weakness on Deathshroud trait over Wells coupled with an offhand dagger personally as AoE Weakness will hit a thief even in stealth going for a Backstab. Finally I would note that while they hide in Stealth or drop a Shadow Refuge your Deathshroud 4 and 5 still hit invisible targets as long as they are in range. If I cannot fear a Thief out of the Shadow Refuge in time with my Staff then that big red circle makes for a nice indication of where they thief is going to be for my Deathshroud 4 to drain their health. (and 5 will immobilize at the end)

I haven’t had many people complain but a lot of people seem to assume I’m running a Condition build even though it’s quite the opposite (Traveler runes with full Berserker).

I have even had people duel me and win/lose ask for a rematch to try a new build or whatever and say “Don’t worry it doesn’t have runes of Lyssa”, Then seem mind blown when I point out I’m Power built not Condition. (Even though they just fought me using Power….)

Thieves are interesting to fight but it really depends on the player I duel on a Deathshroud Power Necro so I can beat an inexperienced thief very quickly which can be a bit dueling but if you find an Experienced thief duelist they can really be a challenge and a hard fought duel.

I would say Thieves are probably the second class I prefer to duel. (Though more than anything that is because everyone is running that Trickery 30 stun trait and I have no Stability otherwise fun!)

Warhorn is a niche offhand for a condition build though.

With Fear meant to become an Interrupt it might find it’s way into some Perplex builds with DM 30 for Lifegain in DS (with Warhorn 5 Providing more DS uptime.)

But then again I run power so i’ll leave Condi theory to you lot.

This is actually very demotivating for me to continue playing power necro, cause i thought dhuumfire nerf will move condi necros back to their own traitline.

Yeah I kind of had hopes Spite would include a Power trait that would rival Close to Death so I had to make a hard choice on what to take but eh just keep the old stuff right?

Keep it up though some of us have to play Power Necro so people don’t forget it’s a build.

I know you were saying about scrutinizing the build but I have to just say at least this.

Do not take Signet of Undeath replace this with Spectral walk or Spectral armor which ever one you prefer, You need this Stun break there is no question about it and a Stun break that gives you Spectral and Protection or Swiftness is one of the best you are going to get.

As for is it Viable I am not sure I will have to give it a proper look in the morning when I have had some sleep.

Is it possible you will have to excuse me I’m not great with lore or story but could waking up a Dragon early cause it to be weakened and not at full potential?

Perhaps by waking him up early was a part of the plan to make him vulnerable enough to be killed?

The blue knight resetting to full health happened on a non overflow server, so it doesn’t appear that way.

Oh no I meant the portals not working I think the health reset is to do with Menders but that is just the theory.

Was commanding on a map we split off after blue and killed Green and then Red but no portals worked despite still having around 2 minutes or so on the clock.

Yeah same happened in my overflow, maybe we were in the same.

The thing I find the most strange about everyone saying Evon should get over things and that he is complaining to much is that they are pretty much ignoring the fact that the Lionguard (Kiel in particular) have given him an ultimatum to give up his property to them or they will kill him.

I’m pretty sure most of the people saying these things would have a problem with it to if they were in Evon’s position there.
