Assassin’s gear is too mainstream. And who says you need to show off lots of skin to look good?
…though I would probably get Viper’s skirt in the future.
FYI, I’m pretty sure the Viper’s skirt is the same as the Leyline leggings. Might save yourself some gems.
As for myself? My charr thief is running the following:
Helm: Mistwalker Shoulders: Heritage Chest: Marauder
@Heimskarl
I’m currently using Marauder’s Jacket and Stalwart Helm for gunslinger Charr so it’s not like Charr are lacking for medium armor.
I will concede however that there is a lack of natural/Druid-y armor sets. The best I’ve come up with is Priory w/ Thief hood for a sneaky ranger. Or the Leather set for the “robe-y” feel.
Just clarifying, if you’re stacking together would you, Ranger+Pet unit, be granting 2 stacks of might total? Either way, it makes decent synergy with guard on a shout build to place a range bet with backliners while playing melee.
Smokescale F2 ability is now Smoke Cloud.
YAY
The Smokescale Smoke Assault skill had its cooldown reduced from 24s to 20s
YAY
and the number of attacks from 7 to 5.
Of course … there must be a cost, lets reduce the number of attacks in 29%, taking the CD reduction buff this is a total of ~25% nerf after the 50% nerf
Why … just, why?EDIT: math failure, now fixed
Just wondering as I stopped following ranger for a while, where/when did the 50% nerf come from?
I think the Smokescale change is great.
No, it’s awesome!
Awesome you say? SmokeAttack was nerfed for about 40%
Was it that much? In the Mists I’ve noticed it going from 4.5k on heavies to 3.5k now for a 22% decrease.
Come on guys, you know the drill. Don’t feed the troll.
you see this Devs , True shot low cooldown yes its PvE but this much damage a Ranger can not do Even with perfect stacks and Signet of the wild on a Maul or even a RF will Struggle to get this high.
does this give you reason to nurf our damage or AF production , or does this give you more reason to Nurf other CLASSES.
Dragonhunter’s Trueshot doing too much damage? The proper response is of course to nerf Druids some more. I’m sorry, I mean fine tune them.
Agree with pretty much everything here, but, I’d just like to address your point #7.
Warriors can build adrenaline while OOC, using either Berserker Stance to get 80% full on a 60s CD or Signet of Fury to get 100% full on a 30s CD. They can also trait to gain 17% of adrenaline per shout use.
Also there is that one heal skill that fills your adrenaline.
Inb4 smokescale nerf.
Ok after testing, healing druid is completely worthless in pvp.
Secondly, even with the movespeed bonus from traited druid skill, in addition to the signet for 25% more speed…. Reapers are outrunning you easily
Aside from that,… Staff 1 damage is SIGNIFICANTLY lower than a single AA on a bow by at least 2-3x minimally
What makes healing druid completely worthless? Poor healing power scaling, or healing not required in this amount in pvp?
Just wondering, how are we getting outrun with effective permanent swiftness? I don’t recall Reaper’s having move speed buff higher than 33%
Guy,s Ranger doesn’t ship units. Rev does. That’s why he doesn’t come here.
That is not true. For me at least druid was the deciding factor. I bought HoT after the druid stream on twitchcon. I am sure I am not the only one who did this either.
I was seriously considering to buy HoT after review from the BWE, but after WHaO fiasco, I forsee Druids getting gutted of everything outside of their healing ability. And that too will probably be toned down or other classes(ele/guard/rev) buffed up, "to make sure healers(Druids), are not mandatory in HoT/Raid content.
And because of the impending storm, I’m once again gonna sit this out. Or maybe buy it for my other classes. Still not sure.
At this point, after three years, I think it’s clear that no matter what we the player base do, constructive or otherwise, the developers will do something completely opposite. Whether there logic is based off of some unknown plan, malice, or that there was never any logic in the first place is unknown. Token buff/nerfs that don’t change the meta result in and perpetuate the current team comps, builds, and tactics that have already been in place for almost the entire life of the game. Rangers could get tons of “buffs.” It doesn’t change anything if they are reverted at the quickest complaint(WHaO) or are completely irrelevant in practical gameplay(MDG, old Nature’s Vengeance, Aquaman)
I honestly don’t really care anymore. I just come to the forums to watch the fireworks and type stupid responses to rile folks up.
JK about the last part, please don’t ban me. To add something constructive, I second the idea of rolling a similar boon share effect into Resounding Timbre and finding some other niche for WHaO to fill in comparison to the other heal skills.
I think this might be part of it:
http://www.gdcvault.com/play/1021848/Building-a-Better-Centaur-AI it is from June 2015 so it should be relevant to HOT.
Was this ever on the table? I vaguely remember hearing/seeing this mentioned somewhere to the effect that AI for mobs, and by extension our pets, was going to be improved. Did anything ever come of this or am I hallucinating? If I am indeed hallucinating, could a mod be alerted to dismantle this thread.
People should just boycott the class. I’m sure ANet has metrics for play time. If no logs into the Rangers and stop posting here something should happen. Either some changes are made that at least causes some sort of shift or the class and this forum is quietly deleted after everyone has forgotten and moved on to greener pastures.
lol I know this doesn’t add much to the thread, but I just went on my Warrior, not even level 80, fairly new. After skimming metabuilds for the PS Might build I basically just facerolled for 25 might. If Rangers can’t burst, tank, roam, or support what are they supposed to do? Druids I guess can heal but…
Just curious, what have been the sPvP “could’ve beens” for Rangers that were nerfed into non-existence?
ele doesn’t have quickness to begin with and the boons are frequent but short lived. that’s a difference.
and your salt against eles won’t get you anywhere, not like it has anything to do with it.
It doesn’t matter much, if you have permanent boons through permanent (re-)application or through stacking/copying long durations. The latter is actually easier to counter with any kind of boon remove.
Well good thing every class has access to boon removal.
Except Rangers of course.
It took them over a kittening year to do a D/D Ele nerf and they barely put a dent in it. Rangers get a build with much less sustain and damage and its gets nerfed after a few days?
No, Anet doesn’t play favourites with classes at all…
Less than one day actually.
I agree with Aomine. Let’s just petition to have the Devs delete the medium armors + mesmer and mesmer. There’s no reason to ever run those bad profs anyway when The GW2 own super special trinity can do it all. It’ll save everyone time and effort in the long run.
Hunter Shot used put 10 stacks of Vuln. that Rapid Fire now does.
This is a very cool idea. Some modifications I’d make though: instead of static spirit health, make it so spirits have 3 charges that correspond to the 75, 50, and 25% marks of your health bar. So whenever you drop below the mark or use the active, you lose a charge.
Just thinking aloud, would having empathic bond trigger, “when you are affected by 3+(damaging?) conditions” and then modify the cooldown be viable?
Just to clarify, after having watched the video, taunt forces the target to run toward then source, and THEN they start auto-attacking. Is this correct?
Nope otherwise, canines would never leave my rotation.
How would zealot fair then? I’ve never heard of pow+prec+he before, when did they add it? Also I’m mostly a pver so in usually worry about all offense.

With the coming changes to Opening Strikes refreshing, I’m personally tempted to try Valkyrie to get a little more staying power in physical builds.
You also can’t go wrong with Sinister for condi since it also adds to your other offensive stats.
You could do a rough linear approximation if the pet panel data is correct. Check pet damage with 0-6 points in BM and fit the points to a line. This is assuming the panel is accurate though I vaguely recall that it scales off the ranger’s stats so it might not work and you’d be left with doing it the old fashion way.
A few things I wanted to say:
IIRC back in GW1 there was no attacking on the move for anyone.
I vaguely remember hearing something about HoT adding a fair bit of verticality to its maps. Something like a port/shadow step for pets would be necessary to keep them up if it ends up like the un identified fractal. It’s been a while since I’ve run fractals but I don’t think pets were able to hit the harpies then.
There are pros and cons to splitting damage between the pet and ranger. I think anet should reduce the prevalence of 180-360 degree cleaving attacks so that 2 pronged attacks are more effective.
And finally there have been plenty of threads about Ranger shouts. They need to be changed. Currently they’re amputated pet commands masquerading as shouts. I daresay that Reaper shouts are better excluding Sic’em and Protect Me.
I think the key thing with Ranger pet damage vs moving targets is liberal application of movement inhibiting abilities. IIRC Rangers have a fait number of slows and cripples that help set up pet attacks similar to what warriors have to do for burst attacks, mesmer shatters, and thief back stabs. As for survivability, I agree there I’m general. It’d be nice for pets to get the mistlock picking favorites ability.
@dECA Think that idea of mulitple pets/pet attunements might have been mine. It’s that the ranger pet mechanic is not going anywhere. It’s also true specializations will bring change. However, from the precedent of the released specializations, I think it can be safe to say we won’t get a complete overhaul into something different.
Just take traited Frost Spirit, Spotter trait, and sword while you’re in full seeker gear and you’ll be fine. Also take birds or cats for your pet.
@Zoberraz +1
^This is almost exactly what I was trying to say earlier except with at least one pet always active.
In regards to triggering all pets one after another and the ensuing effects, including but not limited to 12might, Beastmaster’s Bond, and 12s of quickness, I talked with Tragic Positive via PM. I suggested a cooldown similar to Ele attunements. And also going off Ele attunements, a possible GM trait could be a revival of the old Alpha Strike elite skill that could function like Ele’s Lingering Attunements to have 2 pets on the field for a short time.
The problem is though, the class mechanics aren’t that different. Chronomancers, gained F5, Dragonhunters have modified Virtues, and Reaper has a different Shroud. Druids probably aren’t going to be losing pets and getting an uber mode by eating the companion. Also, ANet is dead set on keeping the overarching Ranger class a pet-reliant profession. They wouldn’t introduce a system that threw all that out. Ideas I do see being possible are the totem idea as well as the one with a “pet” resource.
Not gonna beat a dead horse, so signing out.
Well as we all saw from the last 3 reveals, pet isn’t going anywhere. Therefore what is Druid gonna do with the pet?
Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t Ranger sword the power weapon and MH Axe the hybrid/condi weapon?
I’d like to shamelessly bump my contribution of this thread. I too agree with Lazze’s sentiment about the Ranger mechanic’s backward compatibility. Does anyone have anything to say about my idea? I loved the concept of beta elite Alpha Strike wanted to work around that idea. I had in mind combos such as chaining dog knockdowns into spider cripples into drake breaths into devourer barbs. Anyone else want to see something like this?
I posted in another thread, but I’ll reiterate. I’d like to see the Druids to be BEAST masters as opposed to PET masters. By this I’d like to have access to 4 pets. Druids can trade the target locking/swapping as well as recall of the current F1-F4 work like other classes summons. Pressing F would swap in the pet which is then replaced by its current “F2 skill.” A possible trait that can go with this could be similar to Ele’s lingering attunement that could temporarily let you have multiple pets out at once.
Although I would rather see it made baseline, I can also see the Druid mechanic become the following if ANet chooses to pursue the BEASTmaster theme as opposed to a pet master:
F1-F4 Become similar to other classes summons mechanically. Pressing the corresponding F summons and, for Druids, replaces the current active pet and begins their AA sequence. The active pet then has their active skill, the current F2 Pet skill, replace their summon skill. This way, the Druid trades finer control the Ranger has with their 2 bonded pets, switching targets with F1 and recalling with F3, for a larger menagerie of pets.
Personally, I want to see not only Ranger shouts becoming useful, but providing some group utility. This is what I’d do:
Sic’Em: Place a buff on the pet that provides the movement and damage buff, that way, it’s not lost with other skills or orders. Not much to do here.
Guard: I want to see this skill cause the pet to move to the targeted location, gain protection and then taunt. Most people only use this skill to fuel Nature’s Voice. This change would probably result in an increased cooldown that might affect, those builds, but it makes the skill itself more useful stand alone and with other builds.
Search & Rescue: For this shout, I’d like the cooldown to be reduced to bring it in-line with the other revives, then change it to be a ground target where the pet pulses a heal for that duration that can also revive downed allies. Some stability would be nice too. Hopefully these changes would see it being at least considered.
Protect Me: This shout is mostly fine if they just lowered the cooldown and maybe gave the pet a little protection or allowed it to pull some conditions with or with out a short duration resistence to go with it. Another possibility is to turn this into something like the mesmer’s Phantasmal Defender with condition pulling as well.
Wilderness survival, nature magic, skrimishing.
because its the best
I’m with this. I’d probably run Carrion with A/A and S/D
Source please, I know arrow velocity was stated as being made baseline, but I never heard anything about range as well.
Off-topic, but what makes axe strong? I haven’t touched that in a while ankitten ot sure how it applies conditions better. Also I heard that poison will be made to stack in intensity, so while we won’t be the only ones, SB#2 will get a buff.
This question is slightly off-topic, but it’s about pets and I didn’t feel that it warranted it’s own topic.
Back during the Nov ‘13 Fractured! release they added modifier, the Mistlock Instabilities, to Fractals 31+. The level 41 instability, “Playing Favorites,” makes untargeted enemies take only 1/2 damage. I think that was during one of my GW2 breaks, but was there any discussion how this could’ve been given to pets so they don’t explode as quickly during WvW or boss events? If I remember correctly, the CDI was also around that time too.
Well this expansion has lost a lot of points from me then.
Just gonna throw this out there, cause I’ve used this traits a multitude of times pre patch cause it’s hilarious (or at least was I’ll be testing it this weekend), it destroys projectiles, so if it would pierce or cause an AoE (like Nades or combustion shot) instead the whole projectile ends at you and does absolutely nothing, also the projectile just has to fly through a radius around you (Melee range) and not even be aimed at you AT ALL.
Also, in WvW and other big cluster kittens it procs significantly more, to the point where you’re a walking AoE projectile denial field for you and your allies.
It’s an interesting trait, that much I can say, but imo I’d rather them change it to be something more reliable like maybe, “after dodging reflect/destroy projectiles for the next X seconds.” I feel that’d be more interesting by far, and wouldn’t be significantly broken in areas of the game where Striders defense shines.
If what you say is true, not doubting but I’d need to see it to believe it, this would open up some potential in WvW.
The era of Rangers is upon us! Soon…still not changed just yet. At least they acknowledge it.
Viable like anything else. Helpful and close to optimal? Nope.
Especially with Frost spirit still useless.
It’s probably your pet.
