Don’t forget, this is the same company that says that if you like WvW you’re also really into PvE… of course they are delusional about the numbers

But I get it and support that they cater to different types of players. Personally, I dislike roaming and think that the DBL map is awful for large scale fights – the core of WvW – and can’t be bothered to learn the gimmicks of the obviously PvE-designed map. Obviously, some people feel differently and that opinion should be respected. Also, without the roamer population, WvW would probably be dead for good since they are important in every map.

As someone else said, there are far worse problems in WvW, removing DBL would mean little to nothing compared to what should be adressed

At the risk of repeating myself, I’ll repeat myself.

The simple solution to night capping is simple: reduce the points per tick of holding an objective, increase points for actual actions (defending/attacking/gaining an objective/killing players/killing dollies etc).

Result= much less points scored for holding everything for hours while no one is around, no more +20-30k points gained overnight.

People who play off hours are still rewarded equally, so no need to program some awful multiplier (quick, log in 30 accounts to Deso and afk in spawn so we get a higher multiplier – see how easy that was to game?).

Bring this in sooner rather than later and then you can fiddle with the actual points per action and see how it affects the overall results.

Oh, and pure siege kills shouldn’t score points at all (giving loot is fine).

And one more suggestion- Trebs should not be allowed to be placed inside structures.

Would be a pain to balance tho. If too much, there is the risk that off-peak players will simply quit since they barely influence the score. If too less, things remain the same.

However, the proposed system is also a pain to balance and still has the risk to alienate some players.

But one thing is clear: balance is needed. It makes no sense that the actions of few against no resistance (or the inaction of few, since they mostly “defend” at off-peak hours) outweigh the action of many against suitable resistance.

  • Reduce the need for 24 hour coverage by reducing the effects of off-hours capping (night capping)
    • It’s not okay that the time periods with the smallest number of active players have the largest impact on the score
    • Of course we don’t want to alienate players who play during these period, off-hours coverage will still matter, it just will no longer be the primary factor in determining which world wins any given matchup

I really like the changes, they might not be enough but they are definitely several steps in the right direction. My favourite, apart from the ‘10v1 is more impactful than 70vs70’ thing (at any given time, the night argument is like saying global warming is a hoax because it snows), is the ‘Last Stand’, sounds fun^^

I know I haven’t played for ages and my opinions might be a bit outdated, but I have a suggestion on what to address next: AI and sieging.

Yes I somewhat agree with the ‘no PvE in my PvP’ argument, but NPCs were a bit ridiculous in my time. Sure they could barely slow a group of roamers, but with enough skill you could duo or even solo a supply camp. A very small group could easily kill the guards in a tower, build a ram and capture said tower. With no – or delayed – white swords, the only option for defenders was to have scouts (formerly a very ungrateful and boring task, but I’ve seen you’ve added rewards for it)

Let me give a suggestion inspire in Riot Games: less is more. They make small changes to balance a champion instead of big nerfs/buffs. It works.)

PVD is too strong, in my days attackers could ignore defenders (if too many arrowcarts -> nuke some of them) and melt a gate just by hitting it. This created a constant cat and mouse game where defending when there was an enemy raid was a bit pointless (aka EoTM in fancier maps), so everybody just ran around. No strategy, no baits, almost no organization required.

Defenders should have the advantage in their forts. Attackers can go take something else (although waypoints don’t help, as doesn’t ‘I can use stability and ignore your CC and siege to get inside my tower and turn the tables aka I was on the other side of the siege but now I can defend from it because hue hue’), use catapults (although the enemy can build a defensive treb so there goes the siege) or trebs (in a way the most balanced sieging mechanism, frail and long-range, although defensive trebs usually are higher so maybe have a longer range, not sure)

Also, tower to tower trebbing is wrong and promotes stale gameplay (‘just sit there and press 2 while the rest of the raid farms people who overextend/goes somewhere else, that’ll open that wall hue hue’), providing attackers with an almost risk-free siege (since the treb is in a super-safe place).

Plus, in most keeps all the defensive arrowcarts can be hit (if the enemy is decent/there are not that many ACs focusing fire, he can just ignore the damage for a while) and defenders didn’t have the advantage of… defending a fortress. The only option was to have an organized raid storm out (sometimes from another map). Defensive trebs/catapults were kind of a bad joke since they could usually only hit a small area right in front of the gate, barely delaying the gate meltdown by a raid. A commander should be able to ask for help/manpower in PvE-land and other WvW maps (maybe with a pre-determined message, with the proper anti-spamming features of course).

Many already left because of the massive lack of support WvW got in the first years of the game (population imbalance was a big part imo, but there was more), hopefully you’ll continue the good workd, turn it around and some, like me (maybe), might come back to a more fair game (still the best large scale PvP currently available). In the words of the big A: I might be back.

It has already died over a year ago, ever since Anet didn’t act to improve the game, so that GW2 became mostly about PvE

However, AA isn’t a proper replacement. It’s pretty much like other MMO’s (it has a healing class yay…), there’s none of that “new” feeling I had when GW2 launched and the combat isn’t remotely as good (as I said, it’s old, like pretty much every other MMO)

And the worst part is that you have to grind the PvE crap if you want to do anything fun, so none of that “log-in and WvW or PvP at level 1” that GW2 brought… it’s a game for carebears who like shiny stuff and grind, the “new” and cool stuff that GW2 that brought to the genre was discarded, hopefully Camelot Unchained will get it right (the main guy is the one from AoC so that’s a good sign)

Fact #1: People who do not fight against other people are rewarded as much as those who do fight against other people, including in even numbers or even against the odds.

Fact #2: That is not fair large-scale PvP. It is at best an outdated, turn of the century, twisted idea of fair large-scale PvP.

Fact #3: Anet does not care. They haven’t since the game launched. They won’t because implementing something like that would involve caring about the game and investing less on the shinny PvE carrot-in-a-stick, while it would not bring back many WvWers who feel disrespected by Anet.

Anet did not care in the past year and they won’t care now.

With the end of the league they lost players due to this. That may wake them up.
And with the current “I don’t care” mood in WvW they will loose a lot players to ESO. (If ESO will be able to keep them is again another story)

If you look at their Facebook and other communication tools you’ll see that they care mostly about that Living Story crap/PvE grind/PvE grind-disguised as new stuff. WvW was practically abandoned and now only receives some hotfixes nobody really cares about, just to keep the boat floating. GW2 has turned into a PvE game. FACT.

They are crying about injustice if things got changed, but the fact is that right now players that play at odd hours are being rewarded [with easymode PvE/PvD] for not having other players to play against. That’s PvE not PvP. They are just protecting their advantage like any good crooked politician.

For them WvW is a different form of PvP, if someone plays at odd hours and makes it PvE, it still is the “second P’s” fault for not being there, and thus PvE (including PvD and all that boring crap) is equally rewarded as PvP in WvW. According to them playing is a job, everyone should just stop doing other stuff and play WvW 24/7.

But serious question what’s the problem with sPvP arenas?

2 of you no longer play GW2 but you still frequent the forums? Must be nothing else to play I suppose. Also why does the apology even matter to you? I certainly wouldn’t care or even continue to goto forums of a game I don’t even play. -shrugs- seems odd to me.

Hi All,

I wanted to comment about the incident that happened recently in-game, surrounding some negative community interaction from a member of the ArenaNet staff.

Simply put a big mistake was made by one of our employees, for which he is both very upset and sorry. He allowed his personal feelings to affect his interactions in-game whilst representing ArenaNet, and this is absolutely unacceptable.

Like all players, we are human, and all have our opinions on the game. However these opinions should never disrupt other player’s enjoyment of the things they love. On top of this we have worked very hard to create a community that is respectful to one another, and for this behavior to have occurred while a developer is representing ArenaNet is doubly saddening.

We all cherish the opportunity to play with the community, and we absolutely rely on you all for in game feedback, and personally I hope that this incident does not hamper what has so far been an amazing relationship and opportunity for us all.

I would therefore like to sincerely apologize for this behavior on behalf of our staff member. We are taking steps to address the incident and for his part, he is very sorry for behaving in the manner in which he did.

Regarding Guild game play, please understand it is extremely important to us, and an area we are paying a great deal of attention to, so please do be patient with the developers who work tirelessly on making WvW the very best it can be, they have a great deal of respect for you all, and value your collaboration in pushing this pioneering mode forward. Also please note this member of staff is not on the WvW team.

Finally, World vs. World is a free-for-all battle. Our expectation of staff is that they should be playing, and enjoying the game like everyone else, and not being disruptive or disrespectful to others.

And in this spirit I hope we can move forward, and continue, what has up to this point, been a great community/developer relationship. One that I know our team massively values and loves.

Until Hugh Norfolk stumbles across this problem in one of his “PvD with 60 other ppl” sessions and says “Oh THAT’S what they meant by snowballing, they were too vague in their reports I like pandas and tea #yolo” this problem won’t be looked at, and even then it will only be fixed 2 months later

We are obviously delusional in saying that this will (re)create a problem, but Hugh Norfolk is a genious (you can still pass through that gate… but that’s a minor problem) so his opinion matters more than the word of many experinced WvWers

The wvw team isn’t in charge of the ui. They’ve said that. It’s bad that they havent changed it yet. Their capable of improving it. We’ll just see if they do. However, if you are only capable of seeing negative outcomes why are you still here?

Being another team’s responsability is no excuse, the other team should have worked on that ASAP (like one year ago). Being occupied with PvE is also no excuse, since WvW is what makes GW2 unique.
I’m not only capable of seeing negative outcomes, however I stopped calling them out after WvW was ignored for the first two months of the game, I’m not going to start now that the WvW team (that has 2 devs as far as we know) is appearing to move, in the not so right direction it seems. It takes little time to lose the customer’s faith, it takes a lot more to regain it.

WvW is a sinking ship. We know it. The development team knows it.

Patching up the holes is hard when the ship is already out to sea. Thus all they’re capable of doing is just having the band play their violins for everyone who hasn’t abandoned ship. They’re grabbing buckets and bailing water when they should be changing their course to patch up the ship in the shallows.

To costly to justify development of something that was essentially never finished before launch.

By December this year WvW will be nearly dead. By February 2014 Arena Net will have a layoff. By Q4 2014 GW2 in its entirety will no longer be relevant to market competitors, as most servers will be ghost towns.

Feel free to quote me as these events occur.

Captain doom and gloom has showed up folks. We’ll see how it turns out. I think their capable of improving wvw. Biggest concerns should be ui, matchup balance, and breaking the zerg meta.

There’s just no way to create a fair scoring system, one which determines the victor by skill over numbers.

False. There are many options, however Anet hasn’t even done a test run with any of them. It’s not lack of way, it’s lack of will.

They showed almost nothing except useless and outdated masteries. They continue to ignore the real problems in WvW. The least useless thing (new orbs) wasn’t explained and we barely saw some new locations on the map (still only 2 – EB an BLs). Told ya:
