You don’t need to argue what’s been said. People are just providing feedback on the experience, it’s not a debate point.
August 18th, I’m looking forward to EVERY solo roamer either bringing a Deadeye, or Rage-quitting because of Deadeyes.
Every BL will be like EotM in that you might as well wait for the zerg to return to spawn.
I guess, someone decided that the Scorch was going to be too kitten insane.
Yeah, they would not have committed to such a near date unless the content is >95% finished.
I actually appreciate it. It seemed like the time between the HoT announcement and the announcing of a release date was endless. I know guilds that came back to the game for the expansion, then left when a release date didn’t come out for months upon months.
Besides, from a coding point of view; the mounts were the only huge change. Everything else is using existing resources with new models. It seems like the heaviest load in PoF development was the brainstorming and design.
Well they never commit to changes like that in case they are game breaking or the amount of resources (time, people, etc) doesn’t add up.
A simple acknowledgement that with increasing map complexity that this is becoming more of an issue and that they could make a better play experience by changing it; would be a great first step along with saying they will do some groundwork to check for feasibility.
New Maps, abilities, and ways to play are always good; but as the game gets older they need to remember they are building upon an older engine and if the fundamentals get too far away that people won’t care about the new stuff as much because they will have been frustrated and left.
Hey, I’m just glad they held off for 5 years before adding them.
Not that I hate the idea, but I think people need new things added and mounts are just a bonus.
The END IS NEAR if they add unique mounts to the BLTC (I mean totally unique, not just offering a skin to make your rabbit pink instead of red.)
I agree that LS3 seemed to be all over the place BUT… Nightfall was and remains the best story from the franchise to date.
I like to think they will bring their A game for this since we are revisiting Elona.
I think the story line’s main weakness is that it’s focused on the supporting cast from the eyes of the player.
They can’t just say that Braham got pouty and stomped off. They got to do a chapter for it, and then they just drop it to go do more schtuff.
Besides, it seems like the last two chapters are basically Taimi becoming Navi; and somehow we are supposed to sympathize with Kasmeer’s crisis of faith when the God of FIRE and WAR turns out not to be a loveable rogue…..
No, I thought this might be happening too, but they are not going to do this.
Thank goodness because Daredevil/Deadeye would have broke SPvP
YouTubers have to make content, even if it’s just speculation.
To risk re-hashing the old debate from the HoT release; I think most people are looking forward to playing the new Specs DURING PoF, not after they have already played it.
I’d rather see the specs gated in-story than to have onerously high HP requirements that will encourage people to use all their remaining vacation to grind through the content as fast as possible and waste all those “extra touches” that were mentioned today.
To call it a “show-stopper” is a touch much, but I will second the call that an upgrade to the the mapping system for multi-tiered maps should be considered in a future QoL update; especially since Verticality is here to stay.
Wow, The Glorious PC Gaming Master Race has spoken.
It’s an expansion, not Guild Wars 3!
It’s going to run on the same engine and there is zero return in adding even more graphics definition. Plus many gamers are tired of the upgrade treadmill. It’s nice to have a game like GW2 that has good graphics but can still run on older machines.
Oh, and Ryzen support!? The chip has only been out for a few months and makes up less than 1% of the PC market but you want them to re-code just to support your decision to be an early adopter?
Ok, well that’s a bit of a relief. I couldn’t watch all the stuff at work so I missed the official announcement about single specs.
That’s good, because the skill balance team would have to have an open bar for every patch.
Hopefully we can get at least some hint on what guidance the developers are following when it comes Elite Specs.
Because the announcement showed the Holosmith using both a GS and Hammer; that tells me that you can have two Elite Specs on your traitlines active at the same time.
This is great for some classes, and completely bonkers on others. For instance, Firebrand…. there’s no reason to mesh traps and range with support. No one will be a Dragonhunter and Firebrand at the same time.
However, Reaper and Scorch… the SPVP and WvW communities will riot if you give a class AoE Chill and burn. They’ll have to invent new terminology beyond the traditional “cancer” for what will happen.
Also Daredevil/Deadeye? Three dodges, stealth, and now a long range high DPS output…
ANet, are you going to stream the next SPvP championship featuring teams of 5 DEs on EVERY TEAM!?
Plus the only WvW commanders left will be alcoholics and masochists. Pin sniping is already a frequent complaint and adding this combo will guarantee that no one will want to ever command…EVER again.
1. Join a WvW guild, you have 5 guild slots for a reason.
2. Commanding PUGs can be stressful; especially when facing organized opponents and you have nothing but bearbow rangers and pistol/pistol thieves around you.
3. Negative reinforcement is a valid strategy. Maguuma got to be a top server by being filled with negative people.
I enjoy all aspects of GW2 but at the end of the day my “bread and butter” is WvW; but I’ve become virtually inactive as the continuing series of lopsided matchmaking makes it completely unappealing to come back.
While this has been successful in providing a break in match stagnation; it’s gone on for awhile and quite frankly I can go public lobby in an inferior gaming product if I want to continually login to a face-punch every night.
I fear this current situation may even exacerbate the current situation as it encourages players to transfer to higher ranked servers so that they can enjoy one-sided matches in their favor. With the increased rewards in WvW; this is probably accelerating even worse.
I thank ANet for creating such a rewarding, skill based large scale combat game mode and I encourage you to continue to let it flourish which this issue seems to be not doing.
My condolences to Quick and the people on SBI, because SoS has already hosted the people you have coming over and we ended up the worse off for it.
You might consider coming our way; TW has publicly stated that they will never return so lightning will not strike twice on us.
I think we should be glad this wasn’t a problem when people GvG’d two years ago.
I didn’t even realize that your pairing remained unchanged. I don’t know what the medicated guy was ranting at; I’ve seen more than a few kYrO running around; though not in raiding numbers.
Oh you precious, precious Summer Child. I can’t wait until you face the Maguuma condi-blobs.
SoS will have it’s day again, as it will always have a large casual OCX population.
The situation in NA/EU is unfortunate but T3 contains two other servers that are “broken” in other ways (SBI/CD has no organized guilds, just PuG blobs; Maguuma is losing a lot of guilds ATM, unwilling to push to change it’s situation) so it will likely to remain in that situation unless a large group of NA guilds transfer or they get a few more patient PuGmanders willing to rebuild.
I think Luvpie hit on something there.
Switching to an action oriented scoring system would be a positive change. Where active defense is rewarded more than passive defense.
Same with active offense. I think taking a defended objective should be weighted the highest, next a successful defense, then the lowest where taking an undefended objective should be weighted the same as a losing defense.
It’s complex, but it will end the system where people stay up, stay home, in order to exploit weak time zones.
bumpity bumpity
Bumping again.
After a bumpy transition into the third tier we’re stable and growing again. If you want to know more please check out our community website at www.sosgw2.com
We’re now a medium population server so transferring to Sea of Sorrows is more affordable than it’s ever been!
We’re a server with a very high average skill level. We are looking for ambitious people who want to start over on a new server; perhaps start or rebuild a guild here. Our matchups are very competitive and we get to play against a wide range of guilds and playstyles.
There is a little bit for everyone and anyone with us.
Airships and banners are disabled unless Outnumbered Buff is active.
Even just did the planning and resolution for you guys, it’s just time write the code and add it to the next iteration.
I like the idea of counter-attacks adding range. That would be an excellent class mechanic that would reward a unique style of play.
I also like the idea for rifle #1. Low damage but highly spammable. It would make rifles all about the Killshot but they already are if you are playing it right.
PvP/WvW not so much.
Doing good in PvE though. They really need to reverse the adrenaline nerf if they want warriors to be competitive again.
I started playing counter-strike again the other night.
It’s old enough that if it was a person it could buy cigarettes; yet there’s still active servers and people playing a lot.
The secret is, they didn’t put in stupid gimmicks.
The only problem(s) is that only 1-2 mega-maps are active. They need to raise the player caps or something because having 5 dead maps and one active one is clearly not working for anyone. Also praying that there’s a taxi available in the sometimes short time windows most people have to play is also unrealistic.
Unless ANet’s core audience is high school dropouts, deadbeats, and retirees.
I think the biggest reasons to move from warrior was the changes to adrenaline.
If you go out of combat for even a full second you entirely lose your combat mechanic.
Usually a single tag on the map can get things started. There’s a lot of trolling lately though.
Yet another boon to blobs and k-trains.
Look, as one Washingtonian to my fellow residents. Just because it’s legal, doesn’t mean you should….
Well, I agree in theory but I am not sure if you are referring to a specific game mode. It could be that celestial is a jack of all trades stat and people haven’t learned to optimize yet, though it might be also that certain builds are so well-rounded that they can take celestial and have virtually everything.
That is possible, but the specialty trait lines seem to suggest 1-2 playstyles; and it seems that those are always balanced. I prefer more unbalanced play myself.
I would advise anyone to look at the builds section of these forums. Almost every class has people advocating Celestial gear; which means that no class is excelling in any single aspect.
A strong selling point for this game is that no two classes played the same. Now we have a situation where the desire for balance is choking playability. I like the give and take and making tradeoffs. That allows me to pick which classes are the most enjoyable. Now it’s like we just have more and more complicated and diverse ways of doing exactly the same things.
What I’m reading is “I took time off from (work/school/life) to grind out 400 points, and now I feel like a chump.”
I for one am happy that I will get to play my elite specialty in HoT and not after it when there is no point.
If specialties were “end-game” then they should have been drastically OP’d for PvP/WvW/Dungeons/Raids.
It’s just a trait line and a weapon folks; it’s not like they gave us all precursors!
Well what will casuals cry out next? Raids too hard? No problemo lets nerf it… It took like like 3 hours to get those 400 points what was so kitten that? I srsly hope this was very last step back thx to buckets of tears.
Your sig says it all. Some of us don’t run dungeon speedbuilds because we actually explore and take in the game.
I think ANet finally realized that we want to play the Elite Specialization IN Heart of Thorns…not AFTER.
Not to mention what this does to replay value. Not only do they give me reason to play my other characters (9 toons, one each class), but also give me reason to go back and fully explore the main game to get those HP. I can progress on my Tyria Masteries without dungeon grinding.
400 HP had me deciding that I was only going to play one character; and that was it. No replay, and me desperate for a replacement game (and my wife keeps asking me to play that “other title” with the pandas).
Instead, I will get to explore the specialties for each class, a new way to play all of them.
Best thing to happen to PvE since megaservers!

This has been said, but I want to repeat it.
The “Elite” specialties are not giving extra powers or ground breaking abilities. It’s simply a 6th (you have 5 already) trait line that allows you to play a class a different way.
I was fine with having to play HoT to advance and gain traits and skills. The idea that the player gains these skills with experience in the new area; is great for RP and actually a nice dovetail with the story mechanics.
That said…having to kill champs to get them is simply asinine. Asking us to use skill to get them; I am fine with that. Do jumping puzzles, riddles, a balanced one on one fight with an enemy that is skilled. Putting some massive hitpoints and one shot killer in the mix is just sloppy game structure.
Also the number is too kitten high for a 6th trait line. 270 pts would have been fine. Yes, power grinders would have gotten them unlocked on the first day….. so what!?
Oh no, they can use the Reaper elite….is it any more powerful than Lich form? Does giving a warrior I’ve played since August 2012 some torch traits 24 hours after release; really affect my or anyone else’s quality of play in a negative light?
Most of us who really love this game, have 8 (now 9) characters. You are going to make us jump through all the hoops 9 times?
I’ve put my fist through someone’s face for less insult than that; and ANet wants to treat their most loyal customers like that?
Please, fix this fiasco. Let’s face it; the only reason this hasn’t turned off your playerbase completely is a lack of competition.
ok, but don’t the mastery points also give HP points? Or am I out there on this one?
First off, take a deep breath. Second, find a PvE or PvX guild that is willing to train through HoT content.
The solo unfriendly content is annoying to me too (smokescales anyone?); but even a modest group of 5-10 can get through most content.
I run a crappy HP out of box from 2013 with AMD parts and I run it without any problems.
Unless you are talking about an FX chip bought circa 2007; you should be fine.
Any computer bought 2011 or newer with a mid-range or better GPU made 2013 or newer; can run GW2 at quality settings with only slowdowns during massively populated events.
I fail to see how a mix would do any better unless you are relying on random PvE’rs to bring support builds out of the goodness of their hearts….
They don’t seem account bound because I got some with my warrior but they weren’t available on my necro.
However, I don’t have all the original HPs from the Tyria part. Could a Dev or someone with insight chime in here?
Do we have to have all the HPs from pre-HoT unlocked to get the Maguuma points counted; or do I have to file a bug report about my account?
It will get nerfed eventually; you can’t have a normal map size dealing with champs for HPs.
It wouldn’t be so bad, only some of these elites (look at Daredevil) rely on traits and often traits at the end of the HP ladder to work as intended.
We all expect grind for skins, for titles, for prestige items, etc.
Grind to be able to use your character…. that’s the antithesis of what GW2 has been until now.
Open T1 on 10/25 at 12pm (midnight) PST through 8am PST to allow “off-hours” who might have been waiting to transfer; and then lock that kitten up tight. After that, T1 is full and people can find enjoyment in the game in the 20 non-Full status servers.
The $1000 question is how many HPs are in the expansion area and how hard are they to get?
If one drops with every event; then I’m not going to sweat it. If you have to complete raids to get them…not grooving on it so much.
All that being said; that is very high though.

Orochimaru.4730 no in Guild hall Guilds can have GVG in expansion.
2 months delayed now. Will get pushed back further in preference to clearing up PvE bugs which will be higher priority.
