so i bought HoT when it came out but never got around to playing and when i returned a short while ago i decided i wanted to start fresh and see all the personal stories etc.. but after hitting 80 i apparently hit some masteries cap and need go go learn masteries even though i’ve got plenty of stuff yet to do. now the problem is that this message keeps popping up all the time and it covers the chat box.
i’m hoping that this is a bug and not intended otherwise please move it.
You mean the progress bar? Players don’t telegraph skills beyond the animations. If you’re talking about skill effects, there are several settings to clamp the number on screen at at time…. but it covers both friendly and enemy skill effects.
no i mean the blurry(area of effect rings they’re called in the game i think) stuff around the ground effect that shows the radius of the effects.. it looks pretty ugly and kind ruins some of the visuals. i’d prefer to not have it on my character and just the enemies.
i was looking through the settings and there seems to be only the option of turning them all off but that makes it a bit hard to know when to dodge stuff :P
I’ve had Death’s Charge leap me side-to side, back wards, front wards THEN backwards, and just in place. I’ve seen it all. x.x
LOL, I facepalmed all the time when this happen. I think it has something to do with target selection where it still remember the last target even though you unselected target.
i think it’s more that it wants to connect with a target so if you have an enemy close enough around you it will try to connect with that.
this is why i was against this change. i knew it was going to be like this.
savage leap or whatever the warrior version is called does the same thing.
warrior’s gs3 would have been a better option to copy. just point where you wanna go and that’s where you’ll go.

Reaper is awesome yes but that’s mainly because i prefer melee especially the swinging a big friggin weapon kind.
had i preferred ranged i’d probably think it was meh.. just as i think about the base prof :P
i only pvp with it.. and the only issue i have is that it’s very easy to shut down
I have been seeing tons of Necros in sPvP lately. Even when there is no Necro daily, 2+ per team. A month ago I saw 1 Necro other than me every 5 round or so, if even that.
What has changed? Absolutely nothing AFAIK. I am running pretty much the same protective wells bunker build I had 6 months ago (the trait change only made it better, but I was doing fine before).
Its funny to see a what was previously thought to be a bottom class turn meta on a whim, lol. Incidently most Necros I meet I can easily kill. You notice a clear difference from people that found the Necro just recently and slightly more seasoned Necros.
that’s probably because people are excited about Reaper.
i’d love for vital persistance to become baseline.. as is every build i try to make will have soul reaping in it just because of that one.
I don’t agree that there was a lack of chill uptime. For GS, sure but if you’re Condi you have Chilling Darkness, Staff 3 and 5, then you have shouts and wall, RS 4 and 5 combo. There’s runes and sigils if you want more. What bugged me the most is that Lingering Curse is a badly designed trait (even more noticable when Dhuumfire is actually a bit useful in RS).
this makes no sense. if you have to seek out other sources for chill in an elite spec that is supposed to be the master of it.. then i’d say it is lacking.
most of them dont even sound like shouts.. more like casual conversation or something.
i did like the female asura though she actually sounded like she put some effort in it.
On the contrary, I thing most sylvari faces are too human. Please add more plant-like faces! I love them!
i’ve been thinking the exact same thing.
From my perspective, they’ve added nothing but (plant-like) wood-carved faces as you can see in the collage I’ve made of all the exclusive faces available in the makeover kit.
I believe more options for character customization to players is always a good thing in any MMO. So I would like for you to get more plant like faces that you like, but at the same time I would love to be able to get more of the faces that I love.
I’ll post a pic of the collage again so you can see in one photo all the faces that have been released. There isn’t much of a variety in them compared to the original set of faces in respect to style, quantity of the carvings in the face, and the depth of those carvings.
more options couldn’t hurt i guess.. the pics you linked looks way too human or doll like for my taste.. i think what you are after are elves and not plant people. but i doubt you are alone most people seem to be more comfortable the more human their characters look.

Take how it works right now. With my change, all you would have to do is not have a target selected, and it functions exactly the same, no change at all in any way. If you do have a target, it behaves like a normal leap and you go directly to and stop at that target. It only adds functionality, everything you’ve been using for it can still do.
I can support that. I don’t ever want them to make this target required. I’m using it to escape as much as I’m using it to leap at someone.
An alternative if they want to make this a bit more skill based, is to make it a 2 step skill. Pressing it once it choppers forward like it does right now. If you press it again while it’s flying, it drops and does an aoe stomp of some sort.
Kind of like how WoW monk’s flying serpent kick works.
this is an acceptable change. RS3 is allready like that so i see no problem with RS2 being the same way
As long as i can have a decision and as long as it is not in a way that i stop to move if i hit something on the way, Ok it might be an improvement. But we need mobility so badly in WvW that they should never ever remove the untargeted part of that ability.

having to deselect a target everytime i need an escape is just annoying.. in pvp i allways have someone targeted. and if it stop on someone targeted while he’s in a group of others all he has to do to negate the effect on his team mates is to step one step closer to me.
reaper as a concept is awesome but yeah they did go overboard with having just about everything it does super slow. the “hard hitting” stuff should be slow and pack a punch but everything else dont have to be.
death’s charge is fine as is.. people just need to get used to it.. i can imagine people would complain more if they tried to use it as an escape only to have your character go flying towards your target instead.. which is what savage leap does.
So deselect your target if you’re going to run? This is how every other leap in the game works if you’re using it to escape.
I’d be much happier if I could hit a target with it that wasn’t exactly 600 units away.
that dont always work for me atleast. sometimes it goes after targets even if i have none selected.. so i try to use it to get some distance and it charges to something on my side instead or something slightly in front of me.
this skill need’s to work like warrior sword
if it does it has to end with an explosion or something so that you actually get the damage on some foes else it’s just an overly flashy leap

anyway i prefer death’s charge. i’d be fine with it being like warriors Gs3 though

i was looking forward to this one aswell but as it is now it’s not worth taking.
noo thank you i only pvp myself so have no interest in pve.. that’s why i was checking
so what’re you playing? pve/pvp?
it’s a pretty dope elite for pvp it’s just the cd is sooo long =/ 60 sec is prolly too much but 90 maybe?
so far it’s been alright.. the damage is a little bit low though.
i would like to see the range on Gs5 increased to 900 range atleast
the shouts should probably be looked over though. they aren’t very appealing.
i will post more tomorrow
what about condi builds?
cool.. i think Deathly Chill seems quite interesting
so what builds are you guys going to try out during this beta weekend?
i’m having trouble coming up with something myself.
the way i see it Soul Reaping is mandatory so that only leaves 1 other traitline
i’m thinking maybe i’ll go for Death Magic in pursuit of that movie monster playstyle.
something like this http://dulfy.net/gw2traits#build=AgQG6AVsA-w~
really want to squeeze in as much lf regen as possible lol

Well, first, ignore axe. Axe has a really short range, but is one of he worst weapons in the game for damage, its autoattack coming in below elementalist staff in water Attunement.
Second you can safely ignore focus. Focus 4 really needs to be cast at point blank range for a non pathetic effect, and Focus 5 has too long of a cast time to be used.
Even though you need a power based range option, and axe + focus are power based range options, they are too bad to use.
Your choices: Scepter, Staff, (or none).
If you choose either scepter or staff, your life force generation is awful. (scepter an be paired with Warhorn, but that needs melee. Staff can be Traited with soul marks but this helps less than you’d think). So if you use greatsword, you might need dagger/Warhorn as backup.
As for the actual skills, scepter has a useful cripple field on low cool down and poison on autoattack. Even with zero condition damage, poison is still good because it nerfs enemy healing (especially healing from “rallies.”). You also get to add the weakness & transfer of offhand dagger or the swiftness & daze of Warhorn.
Staff has life force on autoattack, two short chills, and condition transfer on #4. The chills work really well with your traits, & the condition transfer is something you’ll appreciate.
I think most reapers will end up using staff.
yeah thanks.. i intend to run with greatsword so i’m just trying to figure what if anything can compliment it. i’m going to be running mostly spvp since that’s what i enjoy the most
what would be the best choice for a ranged weapon on Reaper?
still the same old staff or or maybe Scepter?(haven’t really used that alot so dont know much about it)
i mean staff got a nice range on it but it’s not really that impressive when it comes to damage. once you droppped your marks it’s pretty useless. and as a reaper you cant back up pressure with DS if needed.
with 2 pulls, leap and chill it really has some nice potential to stick to the opponent.
Wait Blackmoa was there? He’s a very solid Necro, if he couldn’t make Reaper work that doesn’t bode well.
the stream crashed when he was playing so we didn’t get to see much but he seemed to be doing alright
(edited by Comus.7365)
i think it looks dope.. cant wait to try it out
i would love more variety.. both in team size(think 10v10, 15v15 etc) and game types.
capture the flag like in WoW would be really fun also something like Huttball in SWTOR.. you know fun sport like things.
i’d like to see Reapers in spvp especially the power variant.
also if it’s any good with life steal.
what i need is spectral grasp on a shorter cd(20 sec) without traiting for it. then i’d be a happy horror movie monster :P
trying to implement changes when only focused on 1 spec is never a good idea.
will the pre purchase price be the same as the price for the expansion when it has been released? not really interested in betas or the title so just checking if it’s going to be the same price or more or less on release.
The best way to deal with these kittens is not say anything. It might be tempting to reply something like “Get out of your mom’s basement before talking to me” but don’t do it. If you reply they win. Their goal is to troll you and make you reply. So don’t say anything – that will drive them crazy.
Then they will try to whisper but if you go offline before pvp-ing they will just waste their time driving them even more crazy.
Then they will try to send a mail but if you keep your box full they will fail again and you will win.
cant say i’ve ever experienced anything as crazy as this. people really do this or are you just making stuff up?
hybrid sounds like a solid choice to me. better than all out condi atleast
it reminds me of a mini Alterac Valley.. not the old fun version but more the new one where you just rush to the boss. it needs more incentives to pvp. making the supply center a capture point like Runewolf said sounds like a good idea.
atleast the skins aren’t in gambling boxes.
i got no problem buying stuff from the store as long as i get exactly what it is i want.
as for outfits i think they’re pretty great especially if you want to have a decent looking char while leveling and want to save your transmutation charges.
i like the idea of doing harm to oneself in order to do even greater damage to your opponent but the way they are now they feel pretty meh.
perhaps they could be merged? or maybe have 1 that chops 10% of your own health and gives you a 10% damage increase for a couple of seconds? and have it on a pretty short cd(6 sec?)
also would be cool to have something like Ghost Rider in Marvel Heroes. he does increased damage based on how low his health is so in order to do full dps and also survive he needs to juggle his health.

is PvE really that poorly made in this game? i have not really paid much attention to it yet. been mostly focused on PvP.. but if i understand it right Dungeons are all about stacking buffs/players and abusing mechanics. is that supposed to be fun?
For everyone whos excitedly anticipating the Reaper will you be changing your outfit to better suit a more heavy armed behemoth? And if so what are you thinking of?
Im planning to go for this when my Necro gets to max; a mix of CoF, HotW and Arah skins plus Naegling to paddle everything!
had something similar in mind.. will probably use the Arah head though
tricky part is finding a good GS
Right. So I don’t think some people understand the balance factor of this whole thing XD
I hear some people say Bone Fiends and some people say Shadow Fiends…. uhhh…. There is no way Anet will allow you to get up to five bone fiends or shadow fiends when we have an actual minion skill that provides us with just one…… you might as well be asking to get five flesh golems.
I think if not jagged horrors they should be a new minion.
My suggestion(s) would be
Bone Shakers: bone hands that burst out of the ground (almost like scepter 3) and grab hold of the enemies they spawned next to, immobilizing and deal damage every second. Since they are minions they could be destroyed and end immobilized effects much like binding roots.
Shadow Wargs: These would be along the nightmare type (shadow fiend) vein of minions. I thought about a “pack” type of minion and figured the wargs would do nicely and could just use a nightmarish / dark incorporeal makeover.
yeah i really like the idea of the arms coming up it fits more anyway and it would be a fun mechanic.. it could be that either you interact(F) with it or you kill it to get lose
i’m already aware of that. but if it stays close to what it is now it will still be very weaksauce even if it heals through DS.
so i see they mentioned using Blood Magic for support but please dont make it just about that.. i still dream of viable syphon builds..
i’m gonna wait and see what they do with blood magic first. i really lie the idea of a syphon build
i’d rather have a long blade on it than a long shaft(or whatever it’s called) this looks more like wielding a lamp post than a scythe.
