Some very good points, Leo G. Bad thing is… well, you can understand what i think about devs by simply reading my signature. But that’s okay.

But i have something to add. You said about endurance consuming and i thought about “what if there would be some traits which would allow us to cancel dodge roll in the middle of animation at cost of endurance to do something?”. Something active. Lets say, for warrior it would be an uppercut which consume 2 or 3 stacks of defiance in single hit. Some sort of rocket boots jump or just some explosion with big damage (really big damage because of 2 endurance bars cost so it might become a part of rotation and will match high risk – high reward idea at the same time) heading the opposite from your first dodge direction for engineer.

I think that whole concept of using endurance for something else than just dodges is good.

combat and build system is completely fine?

It’s actually not. As it was said above, gear is a part of the build. When everybody uses the same gear (assasin/zerk is not quite different) its a bad sign. In PvE each class has like 1 or 2 builds with minimum variations, that’s not good too.

The whole situation is pretty unhealthy too. We have some traits only for pvp, some for wvw, and a bunch for pve, instead of them being useful in all modes.

Now, answer this question:
What if devs will do what Leo suggests and damage output will become higher?

Don’t say “it won’t”. Just answer the question.

Why is Double Daily Fractal still happening?

Plus it takes a slot away from another non-fractal daily task for players who don’t do fractals, PvP or WvW. Unless I decide to jump into fractals today (unlikely), I won’t be completing my dailies.

Let’s see.

  • Questing is easier with the heart system compared to old-school questing system where you have to backtrack everything.

If it’s easier it doesn’t mean it is better. Leveling in guild wars 2 is very annoying, it is much more interesting for me to level in blade and soul for example.

  • No Trinity! You are independent! No more having to search for healers or tankers. And as for me, I’ve always been forced to play a healer because of this, and I hated being a healer. Now I can be anything I want to be!

No Tanks, no healers, only DPS. If you’re not building for DPS, you’re a garbage in pve. Welcome.

  • Map exploration is really fun, unlike other mmo’s where map is dull and dead. You see a mountain but can’t climb it, in GW2, it is a jumping puzzle! Not to mention, the NPCs are more intelligent compared to other MMOs. They talk, walk, run, fight just like players, and their conversations are always interesting!

In this case I must admit that you’re a fanboy, but there are some cases in which you’re right. Rare cases.

  • The combat system itself. Can dodge, can move while casting, fast paced!

It is good but again, it’s better in blade and soul. Mechanics is good. No build diversity in PvE is bad. No fixes for game is bad.

  • Instanced mining/harvesting node/anything that can be “interact”-ed. Nothing more annoying than seeing a node and another player already mined it so you just have to find another one.

It’s not something absolutely good. If you don’t understand that, then I don’t know how to help you. I don’t mine/harvest anything if it’s not a t6 node even if I’m right next to it. Anything else is just a waste of time.

  • Gain exp/loot/quest credit on enemy tag. Other MMO’s have the first-hit or last-hit reward system in killing mobs. It’s annoying! In GW2, just tag it and you can get rewards.

That’s not something good. It’s “shared loot”. It is one of the reasons why 99% of loot in this game is worthless.

  • Can only bring 10skills at a time. Unlike other mmo’s where the sky is the limit on your skillbar! No thinking required. Just fill that skillbar!

Ha-ha-ha-ha-ha! High level player here.

  • Ability to range/melee on command. Well except for eles and engies.

That’s not a big thing.

And so much more!

And nothing more.

Did you ever think about why is it against forum rules?

It is because ANET are not against such behavior. They need their “friendly” playerbase to buy gems. Nobody cares about pugs here. Nobody will ever be banned for such things. There is no such option to report people for kicking pugs at the end of the dungeon. It’s not against the rules at all.

I played both elementalist and warrior (I also played engineer, necromancer, ranger, thief, and guardian), and yes, it actually is harder generally to play elementalist. My experience in dungeon runs confirm this – eles fall much more than warriors. Where as warrior you can eat 2-3 boss attacks as ele you will sometimes go down even from one. If you do think that warrior is harder than ele – well, i think you have some problems here.

The Silverwastes is clearly an attempt at redesigning enemies in order to make Berserker gear actually carry risk, which is nice.

Now think about is it that risky for warrior to wear zerker gear as it is for elementalists. Is the damage difference between these two classes high enough to make it worthy to have, say, 2 times less health? Don’t forget we’re talking about pve.

It’s perfect if you dodge/block/etc everything, then it just doesn’t matter. It starts to matter when you don’t dodge – then again, why should I play class that is a lot harder and is unforgiving and doesn’t deal that much damage at the same time?

That attempt was pathetic.

This. All gear besides zerk/assasin is just trash in PvE (world bosses grind fest does not count of course). Anything else might be used effectively ONLY on WvW, why do we still get it in pve?

Dear Anet, you should finally penalize quitting from matches. In ranked and unranked. If someone quits, ban him from spvp for an hour, if he quits another match within a day, ban him from spvp for a day, if he quits a third match in a week, ban him for a week.

There are no legitimate reasons to quit a match which happen twice in a normal gamers life.

And what if player disconnect and come back in one minute? One day I dced and game loading time for some reasons took like 5 minutes, it was 50-200 and we won after I joined game. Did I deserve a penalty?

The fractal skin have a 10% drop rate at 31+. So it ain’t so bad.

I only done fractal for a few month and I’m already at 16 skins.

Stop protecting the devs. 10% (it’s actually ~9.2%) drop rate for random fractal skin, so it’s a ~0.5% drop rate for exact skin.

So you’ve done fractals for like 160 times (probably more, lot more, because you still can get skins you already have i guess) and yet you still don’t have all skins.
Nice grind you have there my friend. Good luck looting 3 remaning skins.

There’s nothing special about recieving a chest for me, not any more. Champion bags, to me, are the equilavent of large moldy bags.

Totally this. When you open chests first thing you think of is “how much gold can i get from it”. Good loot is totally random (even that you can’t sell at TP), all certain loot we get from dungeon runs is just trash. T-r-a-s-h.

I’ve never seen any exotic berserker gear drop to me from the very beginning, lol. It’s like devs want me to be useless and say “hey, we have build diversity!”. No, we don’t. As we don’t have devs that are any good at all – game won’t be fixed even in expansion. Devs are lazy as my kitten and don’t deserve their money.

I’d say that one of the goals is to decrease efficiency of hype as a marketing strategy. It is very annoying and is a sign of untalanted manager(s) and/or devs irresponsibility – they didn’t even tell year of release.

The dungeon issue is not specific to GW2. Or MMORPGs. Or RPGs. Seriously, watch a tabletop game. Players do everything they can to safely win even if it involves abusing the rules. No game designer can break that mentality.

It actually is specific. You’re trying to protect the devs – you fail. Yes, players do everything they can to safely win. Of course.

And devs are responsible for fixing things like that. They don’t fix almost anything – that’s why anyone with some brain is disappointed. End of story.

Necro fractal build

As for necro in general, you’re almost fully a damage profession with a little bit of vuln to help. There’s not many tools in your kitten nal that can actually help the team, again, unfortunate but that’s how it is. I think many of us are hoping they have something interesting coming with their specializations.

Well, you forget about lot of aoe protection to gain access to which he only needs to get one adept trait. 3 seconds of protection per well before applying some boon duration. With that amount of protection and necros 20k+ hp, well, you can just press 6 buttons and then autoattack 90% of bosses.

Burning always converts to aegis, which is very useful in lava fractal because you can get pulsing aegis as long as well of power is active.

Necro also has pulsing blind field (well of darkness), and pretty useful in dredge fractal well of corruption.

The big minus is that all of these are dark fields and it definitely won’t help in might stacking, if you know what i mean.

Almost forget about unblockable wail of doom which helps in thaumanova reactor against subject 6 blocks.

He should forget about axe and staff because i find dagger the only good weapon for pve. Sometimes i even use dagger in both pair of weapons – d+wh/d+f(d). It’s on the same lvl of dps as traited crit shroud. Not sure, but i think i saw some dps tests which confirm this.

50% uptime moving reflect is pretty insanely terrible for rangers though.

You realize the skill you’re talking about blocks projectiles, yes? It does not reflect them.

Does that matter, or are you that bad so you would keep shooting at projectile blocking/reflecting wall? I don’t play ranger btw.

Btw, I don’t mind to reveal on blocks. Just make BS damage = Eviscerate damage not depending of positioning and make it possible to use it without stealth.

Right after BS will get a 10 sec cooldown, will be dodgeable via reaction play and not prediction and will consume all your initiative even if dodged/blocked/missed.

Right after thief will get same toughness, skills power, passive healing, access to burn, boons, might stacking, invuls and blocking

Right after warrior will get same amount of dodges, invis, no weapon skills cooldowns, etc.

Didn’t make screenshot, thought it’s just one of a billion bugs this patch brought and is already well known. Don’t see any topic about it so that was a mistake.

When I tried to enter FotM there was some “network error”. I was still able to play, chat with my group, but couldn’t enter fractals even after relog. When all left fractal and I joined first, everything was okay for me but all other people couldn’t join, meh. Tried several groups and fractal levels – network error. Some of them was from NA servers, not sure if we (SFR, EU server) were able to play with america before.

The game is more balanced then you think, Celestial was too weak before, now its too strong. And its the one big kitten stain (hehehe that censorship works well with this sentience.) the game has.

The issue isn’t truly balance, but the players. Someone will always find something OP. Once cele is nerfed, something new will take its place. (However please kill off OP Cele Anet)

Players? Explain how you make “triple physical utilities” on Warrior work then.

It’s not the players enforcing the meta, it is MOSTLY ANET.

Try a condi interrupt warrior with perplexity runes in WvW. It works.

Perplexity runes? In PvP? Try again. And yes, this is pvp subforum, not wvw, where you can accumulate tons of stats and some balance breaking runes. At least in spvp it is not that bad.

Grind is still grind

Well this has been discussed a lot before. The basic idea is that something is not “optional” if it blocks you from experiencing content. And “optional” is anything that is only pretty and doesn’t lock you out of content. Even the developers who make this game make the split between optional and required grind, so no need to say it’s not a valid argument, if it’s where the developers are basing the entire game on.

Only “not optional” thing in guild wars 2 is agony resistance. Almost all other content can be “done” without any armor and trinkets, you just need some weapons. Some classes don’t even need weapons – engis, eles, warriors.

Now imagine this situation:

You get a Fractal Sword but already have it, your friend gets a Fractal Dagger that they already have, you want a Fractal Dagger, they want a Fractal Sword. Both players are super unhappy.

Uh… I don’t see how this is a counter argument to what I said. Yes, it is still RNG, and you can get fractal sword instead of fractal dagger 10000 times in a row. You already can get sword instead of dagger 10000 times in a row. But if drop will be guaranteed at lvl 50, it will be much better. It will be a lot more better if you will be able to throw fractal skins into mystic forge to receive 1 other fractal skin.

Yes, it’s not a perfect solution. Perfect solution would be making such drops 100% dependent on corresponding achievements. Want fractal sword skin? Do this achievement. Want fractal dagger skin? Do that achievement.

Why does RNG FEEL better in a more traditional MMORPG system? Let’s do a comparisson between the two, by imagining how Fractals would work in a more traditional loot distribution system:

Grind is still grind

Fortunately in this game you don’t HAVE to grind (it’s not required), but there are numerous items (optional) that can’t be acquired without repeating content over and over. For this reason, the game appears like a grind for some people, but not for others, based on which of those optional things they go for.

I don’t think that it is a proper argument. All items in this game are optional. Playing this game itself is optional. So this logic might be applied to every single game. You don’t need any items to login into any mmo, stay in your default city and chat with people. Playing is optional.

So, here comes the question: “How to eliminate grind?” The reason this discussion even exists is because of RNG loot. Because there is a chance to get things that is far lower than 100%, players have to repeat content repeatedly to get what they want.

Is that the only problem that causes repetition?

It is certainly one of the main problems.

Another problem (or part of problem above) is random stat destribution on items. For example, it is well known that condition damage is very weak in pve, so if you will get ascended ring in fractals with condition damage stat on it, you will most likely not be happy.

Grind is still grind

The first problem of grind is, we, as gamers, can not come to an agreement on what grind even is.

Doing something again and again in order to receive some pieces or gold to craft/buy something. This definition perfectly suits legendaries. You can’t just do a bit of jumping puzzles, some wvw, some fractals, pvp, dungeons, champ trains, world boss farming and get your 3000 gold. If you will want to buy legendary, you have to grind it. If you want to craft a legendary, you have to grind too.

Here’s my point: best items in the game must be a reward for player’s skills. Crafting or buying legendary has nothing to do with skill. Receiving ascended rings you want and fractal skins you want in fractals is all about just grinding them – drop is too random. You can’t just beat lvl 50 fractals and be sure that in the end there will be guarantied fractal skin drop, not exact skin, but at least something.

Currently farming fractal skins is better at not even highest possible fractals:

best bet right now for getting a fractal weapon skin is running a lvl 31-40 bracket fractal

Fractal skins = grind, no matter which definition of grind you’re using.

It’s not challenging at all. I know that legendary acquisition process won’t be changed. But in future updates it would be nice to have some better systems. It might be receiving items/skins via achievements, so you will get what you want only if certain conditions are met. Yes, this way should make dungeons a lot harder. And this game is casual-oriented when it’s about pve. Well… Not sure if devs will ever think about such changes because… you know.

It’s something we’re absolutely aware of and want to address in the future, one of my main characters is an engineer so I feel ya on this one. My poor quaggan backpack is visible like 2% of the time I play as I kit swap, never mind my weapon skins.

We’re currently focusing our engineering (programmers, not guys with net guns) resources that could work on solutions to issues like kits/skins on major systems that address issues higher priority and wider reaching like lag in large battles, LFG, custom arenas, spectator mode and so on but this issue is absolutely on our radar.

As always, please post your ideas of what you’d like to see solution wise, we love to see the fun ideas y’all come up with too!

Well, it’s not an already implemented thing and we can think about it a lot and suggest some solutions to such problems.

For example the item might be guild bound to all of your current guilds, then what? Stop concentrating on nuances so much.

What use are they? What do these items do?

What problem are you trying to solve by introducing a third type of binding? I see it as adding to clutter, complicating the sharing of loot, and as JT suggests above, complicating the drop tables in undesirable ways.

Right now, it’s easy enough to support guildies by asking them what sort of gear they want and helping them acquire it (either through giving them fish or teaching them to fish).

Well, one of the problem is that dropped gear is nearly always has random stats. You can’t “help them acquire it” if you’re not going to help them farm tokens in dungeons so they would buy gear with stats they want.

When you are doing something and loot some exotic items, i’m pretty sure the first thing most people think of is “how much profit can i make of it on TP”, not about “i can help some guildie putting this into guild vault”.

It’s all about sharing and it won’t make any problems with “drop tables”.

And if a player is not in a guild then what? They become garbage that was added to the loot table? Plus for players in multiple guilds how does it work when it drops? Is it bound to the guild they are representing at the time?

And also, about “garbage” items. We already have a lot of ascended crafting materials and if player is not going to craft ascended gear those items are just a garbage too. There are a lot of people which just destroy ascended crafting materials on sight. Yes, if you have better gear and are not going to use guild bounded one and also are not in a guild, then it’ll be garbage.

Guild bound items?

We have soul/account bound items, but what if we would have guild bound items? I think that would add some value to guild banks.

Let’s say, guild bound items:
1) Are only rare and exotic quality.
2) Can not be used in mystic forge and can not be salvaged.
3) Have a very low drop rate (5-10 times rarer than regular rares and exotics respectively).
4) Have no runes/sigils in them.
5) Are soul bound on use.
6) Will be bound to currently represented guild. If player is not in a guild, he still can use these items.

What do you think?

Power Block and Thieves

Thieves were designed to have access to all of their weapon skills at all points in time, provided they had the initiative. No other class loses as much as a thief by being locked out of 1 weapon skills because their weapon skills were already designed to have cool downs.

Let’s imagine some scenarios.

You PB Infiltrator return – congratulations, you just cut S/D’s effectiveness in half at the minimum.
You PB CnD – congratulations, you just almost completely shut down D/D.
You PB Shadow shot – congratulations, you just cut D/P’s gap closing and half of its defenses.

The developers designed Thief to spam weapon skills – denying access to them is too strong, which is why interrupts do not affect them.

The same thing with chill – increasing CD’s and slowing initiative are not the same thing – they are not comparable.

Interrupts and Chill don’t affect Thieves because the way they were designed makes those effects disproportionately powerful against thieves, not “Just cause”.

If your build relies only on 1 or 2 skills and you can’t do anything without those skills – it’s a good thing if you will be punished by this trait.

It is very annoying. Muting the game sound is ridiculous and is not an option. You can block the person using it, but you will still hear this annoying ringing.

And pretty much all you can do – screenshot your whole party every time you go for dungeons and try to send a ticket to support (which will most likely be ignored ). Your efforts will be wasted anyway. You will even waste more efforts if you will want to contact anet about…

So it’s easier just to avoid groups with 2+ guildies in them.

In two years of playing I’ve had this happen once. The only dungeon paths that I’ve ever seen for sale is Arah. This doesn’t seem to be a problem at all so I wouldn’t worry about it as a new player.

Eh… I just checked a minute ago. Glad to show you that AC and CM are usually on sale too.

I think that we have a lot of players with this 75% off deal. So, I must warn you about one problem about dungeons! You might be kicked from group at any moment and party only needs 2 people to kick you. So 2 guys can kick 3 people from party. Why would they do that? They sell dungeons. After that they will set group in LFG and sell your efforts.

And… Well… Seems that it’s not even a reason for ban.

So. Be careful and avoid groups with 2 guys from the same guild.

Since i got kicked after 3rd fractal along with 2 people i just check LFG every day and report every group selling paths both for gold selling and lfg system abuse. Lost all enthusiasm for dungeon runs – i might get kicked no matter what and all my efforts would be wasted.

They like rng in specs too much it’s lame and hurtful system. Surprised no MMO never got rid of it. Even power specs would be improved if there was no rng but just pure reward,who likes an rng balance,winning or grinding by it??

And I’m the one who is against even just critical hits… I liked that example of HoTS where they desided to remove them and give item for 1 hit with 200% damage every 10 seconds.

But lets not get carried away. People like to think RNG is some form of polio. I don’t have a lot of issues with the traits we currently have, passive or not. Traits and traitlines are designed to both give active effects, and passive effects. You can build both towards enhancing your strengths, or reducing your weaknesses. Any form of competition will have people trying to maximize their strengths and minimizing their weaknesses, so why do we complain about it in Guild Wars 2? People complain about the noobtube, but its by far not the most effective weapon. If you get into a fistfight, are you going to complain about someone that consistently blocks your left hook? Or what about someone who can just shrug off your blows passively?

Incorrect comparsion. Fistfight is not a “game” that is supposed to be balanced. Fistfight is not a game that is supposed to have build variety and counterplay against strong skills and traits. Some strong traits has no counterplay and can’t be predicted. Well known examples:
1)Incendiary Powder. Very overpowered trait that inflicts 4+ seconds of burning on critical hits. Critical hits = RNG, if you’re not using intelligence sigil. So, it randomly inflicts 4+ seconds of the strongest damaging condition in the game (fear with terror trait is too specific to count). Enemy player can do nothing about it – if he will dodge or block this trait just won’t prokittenil he is hit with critical attack.

He will get that burning no matter what he will do.

2)Any other on-crit-conditions. Why? Because it becomes impossible to be sure that by using certain condition-cleansing skill that removes 2 conditions you will remove that burning and poison from you, because if you will suddenly get vulnerability/bleeding above that from RNG passive trait proc, you will still have burning on you. It will only work if you’re using cleansing skill with instant cast and will be in the middle of the dodge roll. Yes, by using dodge roll to prevent applying 1 stack of vulnerability from RNG.

At least, all minor traits with on-crit-conditions should be removed, so the player will be forced to chose such trait from the other adept/master/grandmaster traits.

Exact minor traits:
Engineer’s Sharpshooter.
Elementalist’s Flame Barrier, Weak Spot.
Warrior’s Precise Strikes.
Necromanser’s Barbed Precision.
Mesmer’s Sharper Images.

Facts:
1) This issue was not fixed from the start of the game even though Colin Johanson said this at April 13th, 23:22, 2013:

It’s something we’re absolutely aware of and want to address in the future, one of my main characters is an engineer so I feel ya on this one. My poor quaggan backpack is visible like 2% of the time I play as I kit swap, never mind my weapon skins.

We’re currently focusing our engineering resources that could work on solutions to issues like kits/skins on major systems that address issues higher priority and wider reaching like lag in large battles, LFG, custom arenas, spectator mode and so on but this issue is absolutely on our radar.

I personally don’t know about how anet engineers are related to skins and visual elements of the game, but lets proceed.

2) Engineers (?) have done well, I personally do not experience any lags during large battles at wvwvw, we finally got an LFG tool, we have custom arenas, and spectator mode. Not sure about “so on” but this bug and “problem” about hobo sacks making backpack skins useless still exist. That’s pretty sad.

To be honest the easier change would be to increase the bleed caps based on enemy rank.

Give Veterans, Champions, etc different bleeds caps.
This would not change sPvP at all while fixing a lot for pve.

But then again Anet did nothing for 3 years so its rather obvious that dont give a kitten about conditions for pve.

I agree with this one. I mostly played pvp hoping that pve will be fixed soon, but… He-he. That’s what happens when people want to make money but don’t want to work.

Think about how often do we get balance updates for pvp. Sometimes it takes MONTHS for them to fix important bugs affecting game balance. Do you still think that devs responsible for balance in this game deserve their money? I don’t. But it is just my personal opinion.

Do not give in! Let us not reduce further the build diversity in this game; let us send a clear, definitive message to the Vocal minority, the message being : Learn To Play.

They need to learn how to adapt to the ever changing environment, they need to learn how to change: tactics, playstyle and even profession if necessary.

Simplest answer I can give is that it just isn’t as high a priority as other things we have been working on.

Why do you feel custom arenas do not work for those that want to duel?

Well… If I want to duel with my friend it’s pretty hard to find an empty custom arena. Or may be your suggestion is to create our own custom arena just for a bunch of duels? Remind us, how much does it cost?
