My record is 15 with the last one not counting cause of a last sec scoring. The biggest problem I had was running into invisible platforms and snowballs. It was annoying because I was able to adjust fine for random spikes of lag, but invisible platforms and snowballs are another thing. I’m still happy to get past 10 though since it used to take nearly all 30 minutes to complete the puzzle once. It’s amazing how much practice alone can help you improve on something.
Luckily the snowballs run on a fixed timer, so you can actually count down from the Skritt AoE to determine their position.
As for the invisible platforms, you can cope with those too after a while, to some extend. Luckily doesn’t happen too often for me.
My record is 17.
I always lose out on a perfect by something stupid like a visual bug or input lag (where you just stop all momentum midair and fall down like a brick).
But it’s all good fun. Personally I make a point of it to shout out “It’s raining men, hallelujah!” whenever I see someone drop around me.
Out of sheer interest, because I’m admittedly very ignorant on this matter:
Is it common practice in games these days to include such a setting?
The jumping puzzle with all the bugs is mad easy still… You just have no patience
Even so, it’s not unreasonable to want something that is not riddled with bugs. In fact, it’s what we all rightfully expect. Anything less is sloppy.
No offense Kenny, but your rant loses a lot of oomph if you end it with ‘I bought it!’ because it turns your whole argument into a ’I want to be a special snowflake!’ message.
…Pun totally intended.
There is only one little bug in that JP and that’s the big Snowballs dissapearing after the present jumping part. However.. you also have skritt throwing snowballs. ( see red circle aoe’s on the ground)
Those are your jump indicators and after these dissapear you can usually continue your glorious jumps without problems. If you fail to finish for other reasons you are simply doing it wrong ^^
I call BS on that. I’ve had more than one instance where the snowflake platform were either invisible or broken down visually, while they were not actually.
The gifts to run up on sometimes fail to render in time or don’t show their blowing up animation so you randomly get knocked away.
Tbh, the whole puzzle is a mess. But if you run it enough times you can cope with it.
Such effort put in again, I’m in awe!
But, personally I prefer the dragon mini pet reskin over the angry chest reskin, so I’ll miss out on this extremely hideous basic glider reskin.
It isn’t really fair to blame the maker… It worked well enough other years and the puzzle is fair enough by itself.
It’s the way it got introduced this year. But that goes for the entire Wintersday update, it’s an ironically hot mess.
A flat texture is a cheap way to save polygons. People usually don’t look under the skirt, so that doesn’t need to get rendered, and that allows you to add other details to the model, like earring and fluttering stripes.
It looks really ugly, though. So I don’t think it’s worth it. It’s better to save in other places.
GW2, save polygons on stuff that cant normally be seen with the current gear set?
My googly eyed Asura disagree.
It’s fine, I wasn’t going to sleep tonight anyway.
I think it’s grand, well done!
people dont realise 10k drinks does 2 things, it offers a big farm opportunity for those that like it, and it generates value for the drinks for everone else, thats not bad.
It also ruins a fair amount of livers.
I’ve mulled it over for myself too.
I think this is the result of the armor starvation we’ve been having. When something new and shiny finally pops up, people are all over it.
Well that and I have the perfect ensemble for a over the top kitsch Christmas tree Sylvari thief. I’ll falala all over Tyria, let me tell you!
Platforming was peripheral in vanilla gw2. The change to make it integral to the game is why you are getting complaints. People bought an rpg not a platformer.
how exactly is it ‘integral’? People bought GW2 knowing that it had optional jumping puzzles in it from day 1, if i choose to not do a jumping puzzle it has 0 impact on my ability to play any other part of the game. If you dont like something, just ignore it, your not losing out.
Ok, let us take a look then what has changed over the years?
Things including JPs, other jumping shenanigans or excessive leveling in Core Tyria to complete stuff:
Jumping Puzzles in itself
Some ls1 open world stuff
Festivals
Princess and Mawdrew
Wallbreaker JP to finish a map
Mawdrew was the first to relly heavily on JPs. At a time when the game was 2+ years old.
You do not need the JP to complete southsun, the first major patch with new land.
JPs in festivals were optional, the ablity to grind festivals with dailies is gone too.HoT:
JPs
Adventures
Mastery Points and actual XP
Map completion for Specialization collections
Stuff as Save the city of Gold
Of course this stuff is optional too, but you miss out on much more stuff than you did with Core Tyria if you don´t like to jump or explore. And would you personally like to play a game where you either miss out on much or endure to farm it and then never do again?ofc it’s optional, thats the point. Mawdrey for example is entirely optional, if you dont do it you dont lose out, if you want a long term goal, its great – i personally just completed mawdrey after starting it a couple months ago, at a net loss of gold, but it was fun for me,
Only an idiot would play a game they dont enjoy. You dont endure a game, you play it if its fun, if not move on. As for HOT, it didnt replace Tyria it added to it, it adds a different flavour to the game, and kitten good fun imo, and i spend most of my time still in tyria. Glass is half full?
True, but games like this are a difficult matter. People invest a whole lot it these, financially and personally.
I like your optimistic view, but for me core Tyria has been neutered and I was already pretty bored of it. But much as I dislike recent developments, I’m far too invested in my characters to “move on”.
So yea, I endure.
Stare into the abyss and embrace infinity.
I’ve gotten 3k drinks down from doing the JP alone.
Your math is off by a lot though, 300 gifts / hour might be a little much at the start when you’re getting the timings right, but you should reach 200 easily, with a good chance at 250-300 per hour eventually. I can do more now, if i have a good run.
You also get candy canes and minipets to sell, which you can convert into booze, so that pulls the time down a little too.
So what youre saying is, if youre not a robot…….. see 2nd paragraph…….. you get less………. but if you become a jp robot………… 250-300 is right………. see 1st paragraph…….. so you say im wrong then emediatly say im right? I dont get it.
Well if you consider that a ‘robot’, but I think you are exaggerating your point. You certainly overused your points there.
I actually still enjoy doing the JP, must have a good emotion chip installed.
Youre doing the same exact task for about ~40-60 hours, mindlessly because you do it so much. Yes I call that a robot, because you might aswell be a robot at that point. Thing is you said my math was wrong, then 2 sentences later you confirm my math, so I didnt get your point. Also as I stated before, I don’t mind the grind, it’s just that youre better of farming gold and buying the drinks because thats simply more efficient. Since anet wants us to be robots for the skin…
I was stating that 150/h is far too little to be ‘realistic’ and that I don’t like to be called a ‘freak of nature robot’.
So no, I neither confirm nor approve your what you call math. And with that the discussion is for my part over.
Revenant (Herald).
Really, there’s nothing more to be said.
I know you said you didn’t like the mechanic, but it’s really not a big thing. Unless you’ve tried out Glint, imho, you cannot form a right opinion about it. It changes everything for the Revenant.
Herald is without a doubt THE most all around class to play at this point.
Otherwise, i second Dunecoon.

Won’t the achievement category be retired after Wintersday making the Imbiber achievement impossible to get?
No, and they stated that the Imbiber achievement would stay on after wintersday. I already reached this conclusion beforehand because the shoulder skin is a collection achievement and not a wintersday achievement.
Thank you
It’s a moot point anyway. The source of drinks is going to be severely cut down (to 1 max per account per day). Drinks will not be affordable after Wintersday.

For the snowman path, with the jump on the candy canes bit, you don’t actually have to jump on both of them (nor should you). You take a large jump right on the second cane. There’s pretty much no risk to fall that way.
Snowman path is imo the fastest and easiest, with 3 shortcuts to take.
As for the snowballs, remember that they only hurt you at the front bottom of them. You can actually jump right through the sides of them, without any risk of getting hit.
I wish you all the best, but you will be your own grave (like me now )
Goodbye all!Can I have your stuff?
What would you like? Say fast – I’m getting banned soon
Drama Queen! ¬.¬
Unless you’ve spoiled Star Wars, in which case Yea probably. Not really Drama Queen, I actually did a thing very very offensive, against the rules, which is worth of perm ban. And I acted my own way, so I’m fine with that. I’ll not be anyone’s puppet, there is noone who gets special treatment, in my eyes – all are equal, cuz we all are humans.
But yea, you got that thing right, I didn’t spoil Star Wars – so maybe I don’t get perm banned. haha, funny right?
Well, all the more power to you.
Feel free to send your stuff to me, unlike Pandaman I’m not above begging ;p

So… How old exactly are you?
Well, that was pretty personal Mikali… =/
Anyway, I too think this is way over the top. There is a line to be drawn here, but how do you justify where it lies?
To be honest, it is even a little offensive that time and effort of you guys is put into this, while other relevant topics are treated with complete silence.
The difference is that we don’t want the toys and clothes we give the kids, but we sure ain’t sharing our alcohol.
I would think this is not completely implemented yet. There doesn’t seem to be an item called ‘cleaning rag’ in the game.
Where did you find the cog? Collector Terksli can be found in the vault of BLTC
Casual for me means not having hours of time a day.
Earlier on I’ve read someone who said they were extremely casual by having 8 hours a day to play, 14 in the weekend. That’s simply absurd. You are talking about a job right there.
I can play at most 2 hours a day, if I’m lucky. In old times that was enough to get to goals in a reasonable amount of time.
Since HoT that is no longer true. Fact of the matter is that you need a large time investment in pretty much anything new implemented. Everything is hidden behind incredibly large time sinks.
THAT is why GW2 is no longer casual friendly in my opinion. The difficulty increase is just fine, people learn to improve. But I can only spend so much time, which is something I can’t improve myself on.
I don’t want to make task lists, spread over months of playing for every little thing I want to get. Obviously there should be long term goals, as legendaries have always been. But there need to be rewarding short term goals, and those are as far as I’m concerned absent right now.
The only way to get anything new these days is by buying it from the shop.
I posted this in another thread, but it should be here too:
Weird things going on with the Wintersday servers. Yesterday I was in the jp when the score window popped up (I hate that- if you’re jumping it can make you miss). Showed everyone’s score and seemed to send everyone back to the start. So there I am at the start, and I notice that I’m the only one in the instance. So I did the jp 4 or 5 times till I got my 15, and not once did anyone else enter the instance. I had it to myself for 10 minutes or so. And I KNOW that there were people experiencing the “world is full” bug while I was alone in the instance, because I asked when I left my very own instance.
Oh yes, I consider this hitting jackpot! You can get up to 20 runs in half an hour on your own ^^
You must be at least this drunk to enter the Winter Wonderland.
Karka Queen, the most frustrating boss ever? Have you ever played literally any other game?
You are all freaking out over 10k drinks? Wintersday started today and I have already drank 1000 without spending a cent on the Tp. 10 more days and I will have the 10k that is apparently impossible to reach. As with all collections, they would lose their value if everyone had them instantly. So if you are dedicated at getting them, I suggest you start opening gifts instead of wasting time complaining about it on the forums.
Tldr: there is nothing wrong with the 10k of you really want to work for it.What is the most efficient way of farming gifts?
I’ve only gotten about 400 yesterday through achievements and doing everything for a few hours, granted I don’t know what’s better than what, so I had no focus for those outside the achievements.
The Winter Wonderland JP has a potential of 300 gifts per hour. But you gotta be perfect.
Crimson, it’s certainly not the easiest of JP’s, but it’s short, you don’t die and get to go pretty much immediately again. If you stick to one path, you’ll get the timing pretty much down in a couple of tries.
As for the presents… There’s no place for empathy there :p
You jump as soon as that middle red gift appears and run for it. You can go left or right one row if the gifts start to wobble, but more than that is probably a miss.
Once up, dodge over the peppermint platform and don’t rush the snowball part. You have a decent time frame now.
Everyone’s annoyed.
Sounds like the holiday season to me.
Which brings us back to what I said
You don’t until they are.
Who cares? Everyone’s gonna be sloshed all the way through it anyway. It’ll probably take another year to sober up after this booze-bonanza.
It’s not like the bells are foolproof either you know, and you have those horrid free play sessions in between.
I’m banking on the JP myself, I consider myself pretty good at it.
Winter wonderland is by far the most efficient at only 34 hours of perfect playing.
There’s always a chance to reduce the cost by playing Winter’s event … not all has to be black or white, … (Grind/Gold sink) … combining both makes it easier for those who really want the cosmetics. ..oh but wait… it would take time tho… -> no longer viable ever..lol
That’s a fallacy. The cost of the items remains the same, whether you farm the materials or not. You’re only saving on the TP costs.
It’s in times like this that we need to search for the wisdom of Disney.
The patch notes mention “new permanent” winters day achievements. I’m not sure if this is one of them or not. But if it is, you would be able to get the drinks year round if you have the present node in your home.
Brilliant! It only takes about 28 years like that.
Well there are people who can play Guild Wars as a daytime job. Others will have to tap into their salary to get this over with.
For the gust after the presents, you can just dodge/double dodge from the circular mint onto the candy cane and evade the gust.
Mmm, yes, that would make sense. Good to know as I’m going to be doing this JP ad nauseam for wintersday spirits…
I’ve grown quite fond of Canach ever since the turnabout trial living story. He is just so cynical, I really enjoy his sense of humor and his voice actor does splendid work with it.
Nothing is fixed, those top hats and others are armor skins, not costumes.
Costumes were, are and will for a long time still be an easy, lazy solution for pumping out sell-able looks with much, much less work and testing required than for full armour sets.
And even then they still manage to have those clip…
The only bothersome thing to me is the wind gusts that knock you off… sometimes but not always. It’s hardly worth watching out for, it’s a luck of the draw thing imo.
I would like to echo most everyone’s sentiments here. 10000 drinks is a totally mean spirited way for us to earn the brand new shoulders.
Hohoho! Well played, I say!
I doubt it. Once they go with something they often stubbornly stick with it.
10 000 drinks… Sometimes I wonder if the people making this game still have some sense of reality…
