Do we have any indication that another Pale Tree would also be sentient?
As the Dream does not appear to be of Mordremoth’s design (since the Pale Tree manages to protect it from him), who is to say that the sentience of the Pale Tree does not come from the Dream rather than the seed?

If Pale Trees are just hatcheries of minions, I would assume it’s in Mordremoth’s best interest to give them as little will as possible. Basically all it needs to do is bear fruit, they don’t need to be self-aware for that.

And let’s face it, as champions they’re pretty useless. They’re immobile and most of the power the Pale Tree shows is connected to the Dream, which doesn’t seem to be an inherent power of a Pale Tree.

Teeny Tiny Expansion

Evans.6347

I can’t deny that the news of no new race has me extremely disheartened. While this indeed doesn’t add any mechanics, cosmetic changes are a huge part of Guild Wars.

That said I’ll try to keep an open mind.

Pretty sure Guild Wars only ever had one race. And cosmetic changes were added with new professions and skins. In other words, HoT is following in its predecessors footsteps.

Irrelevant. Guild wars 2 already has 5 races right now and it’s commonly known that Tengu were at some point a playable race in development.

Also, while Guild Wars did not add races, it did in fact add nationalities with distinctive features.

New Allies: Mursaat

Evans.6347

No one is pointing out that the three “Mursaat” in the trailer have different colours?
There’s blue, red and yellow.

Also they only have two energy tendrils coming out of their backs instead of the typical 14 black feathers. The one at the end also looks nothing like a Mursaat in body and attacking stance.

I’m not at all convinced these are Mursaat, in fact they appear to be much more like Djinn.

In that vid it is clearly visible that is has feet, so that it’s a snake is rubbish

I don’t see any feet, not at 1:00 or at 2:48.
Also, Flame and Diamond Djinn don’t have 4 arms.

But I digress, to me they are as alien to Mursaat as they are to Djinn.

At any rate, the last bit of the trailer which has the ‘Mursaat’ firing an energy beam shows a long, serpentine body. I don’t remember the Mursaat being serpentine. Perhaps they are ascended Forgotten?

The Pale Tree, though exposed as the pathological liar she is, mentioned that only two of her children have had this dream. Caithe and the PC.
She even went as far as to manifest Caithe in your dream to help you out, with the dialogue implying that this is a first. Safe to say that whatever your dream meant, it was mighty important to the Pale Tree.

I don’t think that the Shadow of Dragon was trying to convert you in the Dream, but instead was out to kill you as it tried to snuff out Caithe. Most likely because both of them will turn out to pose a serious threat in the future. If the Pale Tree can see the future to some degree, it’s very likely Mordremoth can as well.

Also, as it seems Ceara was under the influence of Mordremoth since birth, but she did not face the Shadow of Dragon in her dream.

Caithe's Secret?

It’s possible (probable?) that the vision our character has received from the Pale tree is in fact a Wyld hunt. One that Caithe might have received too, or at least knows about it.

I know this makes more sense with your character being a Sylvari, but it could work for every race as we were undeniably linked to Caithe first Wyld hunt. She might just have a better understanding of the vision and want to guard us from some sort of painful situation that will occur.

At the very least, I’m really doubtful that she is corrupted by Mordremoth.

Power or vitality attributes for my gear?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Evans.6347

Evans.6347

Elementalists have very high active defenses (blinds, projectile nulls, invulnerability, blocks) so adding high vitality is relatively unnecessary unless you’re running very high level fractals. At the same time they already have the ability to AoEbuff 25 might permanently, so adding power has somewhat diminishing returns at very high buff rates.

Elementalists and engineers are the only classes that properly benefit from Celestial at high level fractal content, but for easier content it’s usually more efficient for an ele to stack precision-ferocity-power and use might the rest of the way to complete the damage.

That’s obviously spoken from an experienced point of view, but not very helpful for new players. (granted I don’t know how experienced the topic creator is, but I doubt he’s running high level fractals at level 40)

New players probably won’t understand half of your first paragraph.

Joy to the world, ignorance is bliss

Power or vitality attributes for my gear?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Evans.6347

Evans.6347

Vitality/toughness are ace if you’re not that experienced at the game yet. Honestly, if you’re starting out with elementalist, the most squishy class of them all, and you’re having a difficult time staying alive, then add some vitality and toughness.

Yes, the fights will last longer, but it gives you more space to slip up and more time to learn. If you start noticing that you aren’t taking much damage, swap your stats out for power, precision and ferocity. That should be your goal for PvE.

Many people will say it’s offensive sets or go home. Do not let yourself be pushed into this before you are ready or it’s going to be a very frustrating experience and you will likely lose enjoyment.

I wholeheartedly agree that any MMO needs to keep attracting new players. I just don’t think they need to have the mental capabilities of a chicken, that’s all.

I asked the question before, last QoL-update, if people were really struggling so much with traits. Apparently even back then new players couldn’t count to five anymore.

And now people are so confused about the downed state that they even removed it for the first five levels.

I’m sorry, what? How does this in any way make it more simple to understand?

What level of quality end game players are we raising with this, I wonder.

I personally find the MF infusion absolutely pointless as chests and bags, arguably the most ‘rewarding’ parts of the game, are not even influenced by it. And drops, which are, have a modest, questionable increase from it.

Actually, as a Commander of the Pact I think it is way more in-character that the player character defers to the Council Asura, instead of giving in to Taimi who – despite being a traveling companion and genius – is still a child and has acted irresponsibly several times throughout the story. That’s of course very much in-character for her, but from the viewpoint of a Commander it is clearly the better choice to defer to the experienced Asura of the Council. Phlunt might be a snarky kitten like most of them, but he probably didn’t obtain his position (in a culture that seems to be based on meritocracy) by being incompetent.

Forgive me if this point was addressed above, but isn’t a major plot point in the DE book and in Asura lore that the Council are not the cream of the crop?
The Council is formed from Asuran with modest academic achievements who failed to find adequate reasons to not be on the Council.

In this context, doesn’t seem like Phlunt wants to use the waygate tuning research as his ticket off of the council? Which is about as self-motivated a member of the three colleges can get; any other forms of self-motivation would drive that Asuran out of the colleges and into other entities (Orders, pirates, Inquest, etc)

Regardless, there are rules in the Asuran society. If any invention made by a student is property of the school they are in until graduation, then that is how it is. It doesn’t matter which official office Phlunt has.

If we would break any society’s rules, it would reflect badly on the Pact.

The Mystery of Countess Anise

in Lore

Posted by: Evans.6347

Evans.6347

Isn’t it interesting as well that Minister Estelle claims that Countess Anise was wearing a red cloak when meeting with Scarlet? More specifically a dark red cloak.

I immediately considered it odd that she would be so specific about that encounter, even if she was lying. Jennah wore black and Anise wore red. How is this in any way relevant?

If you want to look deep into this, all of Livia’s outfits were red. But then again it could just be a red herring.

I didn’t consider it odd – cloak colour is a pretty obvious thing to see, and liars like to add little details like that partly to make their account seem more real, partly to forestall being caught out when someone else asks about that detail and they hadn’t prepared an answer in advance. The colours she chose were likely based first on being dark colours that can provide concealment at night, and second on being opposite to the colours that Jennah and Anise are normally wearing (white and blue respectively versus black and red).

Well thinking about it, it’s probably not that weird. I suppose I was just in a strong Phoenix Wright vibe at the moment.

However, red is still a strange colour to consider stealthy, even if it’s “dark” red. I mean it can’t have been that dark red, because you would not be able to tell it apart from black in the dark then. And why pick two different cloak colours to begin with? Why not both wear the obvious black cloaks? I can’t shake the feeling that there is some truth in this.

And I don’t trust Anise in this either. We tell her that Estelle claims she was there when meeting with Scarlet and all she has to say is “Well that’s silly, here’s a message from E.”

Oh ok, if you say so Miss Shady. I’m sure the torturing of Estelle will nip that rumour in the behind rather quickly anyway.
