As I understand you will get your skill points refunded in shards for the mystic forge. Your character will then receive hero points according to your level and world ‘skill points’ completed.
Excited for some changes. Kind of bummed about what is going to happen to Guardians, which is really nothing much compared to other classes. I am usually very very positive about the game (fanboy status) but I’m worried about the guardian changes. Guess I’ll find out on Tuesday though.
We’ll shift a bit, but there are some very nice changes coming too. We’ll see, but we’ll adapt. We always do
It’s not unreasonable for them to require an active leader. If this is a problem (and I don’t know if it is), then we need a (better?) way to replace an inactive leader.
Would it? The stuff these eaters give is rubbish and they still consume less than a SW run gives.
Some more practical uses for these resources would be better still. However, I’m happy with what we get.
Skill challenges remain as they are on the world map, for what I can tell. Only they’ll give you hero points now.
So really, I think you maximize your outcome by getting as many unspent skill points as you can get by then, as those will likely all turn into shards, while also giving you hero points.
Or maybe not, I wouldn’t worry too much about it
THave you ever created a work of art? A painting? A musical piece? A game? A story?
How would you feel if your hard work and what you’ve dedicated a year or two to, was ridiculed and hated before it was even released?
Yeah actually, career artist here, second generation after my mother who was a classical portrait and landscape artist.
And you know what she taught me?
If you can’t take critique, keep your art, to yourself.
Critique is as much a part of the artistic process as concept and creation. Unless you are somehow an immaculate and perfect artist, basically unless you are God Himself, your art warrants critique and you should accept and consider it gracefully regardless of how and where it is given. My greatest artistic mentor once told a student that he didn’t have what it takes for an art career, the kid said he appreciated his honesty, walked out of class and over to the administration building, where he immediately changed his major. And there have never been any hard feelings between that student and the professor. The kid may not have had the artistic talent, but he had the artistically driven mentality that accepts, rather than takes offense to, critique.
You don’t want to pay the full price for the pre-order?
Don’t. That is your choice. But they owe you NOTHING.Completely false, they do owe people something. They stated for six months, since its first announcement, that the expansion would require the purchase of the base game. They owe people who purchased or supported the game, based on that, another means to purchase the game for a price comparably fair to those who are getting the base game rolled in for free. If they had never made any such a statement, then you would have a point, but since they did, they have an obligation to keep their word if they want to maintain the respect and trust of their playerbase.
How would you feel if when you announced that it was ready for purchase, people spat on it. People lashed out at you on not only your official accounts, but your personal ones to.
But being complete jerks about all of this is revolting and reflects poorly on us as a community. And think of the devs. They have feelings too. And I’m sure many are upset right now. This may just be an expansion to you, but it’s much more than that to them.
Now all that said, this is completely deplorable behavior and I hope ANet takes just action against the accounts who have done this. Those are their private, not professional, accounts. This is like showing up at someones home and screaming in to their house from the street about the dealings of the business they work for, and worse, doing so when you don’t even know the persons opinions or involvement in the incident in question. In real life, this would be considered harassment, possibly even assault, and I wouldn’t even scoff at a permanent ban for these people.
However, as for you, OP. You are a completely despicable wormtongue for having made this thread as an underhanded attack against people whose opinions you disagree with. Rather than supporting your opinion with any amount of logic or evidence like a civilized and intelligent person, you have attempted to vilify those you disagree with with emotionally charged stereotyping base on a tiny subset of people that the majority of those who share the opinion you disagree with, would never have anything to do with.
I respect the majority of the people on these forums who share your opinion, even though I don’t agree with them, but not you, you don’t give any, and you don’t deserve any it in return.
Brilliant! I couldn’t agree more.
But because it’s soulbound to a deleted character, and it’s in the account bank, it can’t be taken out by any character.
It really is a silly mechanic to begin with.
My 2 cents:
Birthday presents alone – Tough cheese
Mining pick – 99% chance at getting it through CS
Birthday presents along with the pick – Solid chance.
Oh please, of course they knew.
Or at least those in touch with the community knew. It’s just that those who made the decisions don’t give a cluck and those who knew what was going to ensue are left cleaning up the mess and soaking up the hatred.
A good natured notion but ultimately falls on weak context.
So yay! Getting HoT should be fun and not work! I should be able to just pop it into any system and enjoy it to it’s fullest! No, just because it is a game for fun doesn’t simply mean there shouldn’t be any thought on the user’s end. You need to make sure your system can handle the game, there’s enough hard drive space for it, your internet connection is stable enough, that your control scheme and hardware is comfortable for you, etc. etc. None of that is “work” per-se but it will make the act of playing the game a much better experience whereas if you don’t take these things into consideration, you can ultimately end up with a huge frustrating mess ending with you requesting for a refund, or worse, a visit to the doctor to get your bad wrist or back kink looked at.
But none of those mentioned things are even close to the simplicity of prep you could/should do to simply upgrade your account. If you saw the new profession and liked it, preparing for it IS fun just like preparing any other character you play for whatever content you’re playing as. If it’s not fun for you, then of course don’t do it. But then are you going to then put blame on someone else just because you made that choice?
Just as weak as yours, to be honest. At the core it’s how you look at things. Where I want to put good costumer care as the norm, you cling to the cold harshness of life. I believe a kindness never hurt anyone, while you advocate depending on no one but yourself.
At the end of the day one point still stands: adding a single character slot to the core package hurts nothing other than Anets greedy wallet (and even that’s questionable) and would have been a logical kindness to all players.

Actually, I hope they will add stuff like daily gathering in the guild halls. I never liked what home instances had become and I feel like it’s time for guild halls to take over it’s function.
But that’s just my personal idea. Of course there are people who don’t want to be part of a big guild and these people are just as entitled to having a good time.

So you’ve heard about the expansion and the new profession…you didn’t think you MIGHT need a character slot for it? You didn’t bother thinking that far ahead?
No, and I shouldn’t have to. The way you are describing the game experience, you’re turning it into a job.
Getting HoT should first and foremost be fun. I should not have to prepare in order to enjoy one of the main focus points of the game. Adding a character slot was a minor thing to do, which would have spared a lot of anger. It’s also something which doesn’t hurt anyone.
So please, get of your high horse. If you want to work hours on end to earn the possibility of playing the new profession, go for it. Do whatever floats your boat.
I on the other hand would like to enjoy my game without having to plan ahead or work for it.
Not adding a character slot is nothing more than a money grab and it should not be defended. It only deprives people of enjoyment and serves no greater good.
I know right? Makes me feel silly when I look at old complaining topics about the great Dragonite ore scarcity.
Oh you want to play it that way then?
Hey all,
We understand that there are many opinions and suggestions about the game versions and the pre-purchase program. We will continue to read your thoughts and thank you for sharing them.
Edit to add: We will share your input with the team.
Then. And that’s all we’ll get, says Madamme Soleil.
It’s an untapped market ain’kitten
Now available in the Black Lion store, Maxipets!
Mmmm, that sounds wrong…
It’s not that easy. Many have already bought the packages and it will get pretty hairy when they change their minds now.
They’ve already thrown poor Gaile at us, who can still rely on her considerable pool of respect from days past, to do some patch up work. I doubt there will be much of a reaction other than that.
Well yes, that’s a whole different box of biscuits.
I was trying to focus on the discussion about character slot inclusion
Guild Wars 2: Hearth of Thrones, great offer!

It’s very easy, it needs an extra character slot for an account update.
If you don’t need something, getting it for free doesn’t hurt you.
If you get a free cookie, but you don’t eat cookies, does that mean they shouldn’t hand them out to anyone? Maybe someone there was really happy to get a cookie and would be very disappointed if they suddenly stopped handing them out because someone complained that they didn’t want a free cookie.
I know I’m twisting the situation like this, because in reality no cookies are being handed out at all, and some people who saw the advertisement of said cookies were expecting them to be handed out, as a taste, and are now asking why there are no free cookies.
But I still wonder why anyone would deny someone else a cookie, because they don’t want it.
…I’m craving for cookies now.

I asked this in another topic, but I’ll do it again here.
People against the inclusion of a character slot in the base package, what do you have to gain in fighting against this. Even more, what damage do you have from including a free character slot?
I haven’t seen a single compelling argument. Adding a character slot is not only logical but furthermore hurts absolutely nobody. I’m very sorry but to me, if you’re fighting to defend this choice, your only motivation is to deprive others of enjoyment.
Not including a character slot in the base package is nothing more than a blatant money grab. Can we please stop trying to justify it as anything else?
I haven’t seen a single other valid reason why a character slot should not have been included.
People who are defending this choice, what possible advantage do you have in this? Adding an extra slot has no negative impact on anyone, not even those who already have maxed the character slot capacity. So why fight against it?

I’m fairly certain no one want a torch to begin with =/
Can I use Ultimate Edition with existing acc?
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: Evans.6347
You can apply it to your existing account, many have done so already.
I believe they mean that you cannot buy the ultimate edition in the in-game store as an update.
Hey let’s get an extra title to wear too. How about Ultimate Payer!
You know, I’ve had it all wrong all this time.
Silly me, I actually though Heart of Thorns implied the lair of Mordremoth, but now it’s very clear that it’s just a metaphor for ArenaNet. Aptly named.
You know nothing, Jon Snow.
Yes, I am agreeing with you.
I love that forum by the way.
What is the ArenaNet team saying?
Not much apparently!
Anet is pretty good at going mute at such times, which only angers the mob even more.
The problem isn’t that we don’t have any options, the problem is that we have to consider them.
It’s poorly worded, but I’ve heard you can use it to upgrade your existing account and get all the content.

Quick, grab your Peasant’s Solutions!
I dunno, common sense might have something to do with it.
You know, if you make a NEW PROFESSION one of the biggest selling factors, people are going to expect being able to actually create such a character, without having to delete existing characters or having to pay extra to make room for it.
Very poorly worded, that is. But it’s good to know.

How nice of ANet to bury that info in a Reddit thread instead of putting it somewhere where people could see it, like… oh, maybe the preorder page! That’s such a great idea, but I’m sure they just missed it. Surely, they’re not hoping people will miss their chance for a refund. With the latest lack of shady practices on Anet’s part, it’s easy to believe in their good intentions.
Likewise, the expansion is probably missing an extra character slot to teach veteran players to use the gem shop. It’s like a tutorial!
Your sarcasm pleases me.

Really, is the place to go there?
Aside from that little bit extra we pay for a game we also hand in a huge amount of our salary for those wonderful benefits. Seriously, what does this have to do with anything?
What I asked was simply “Why do we pay more for a couple of in-game trinkets like a minipet and decorations and a character slot, compared to the US”. Can you tell my why, instead of judging our social welfare?

No they didn’t, they said it needed the base game to play. Which is true. Only now they add the base game to the expansion.
So it’s not lying, just goading people into buying the core game beforehand so they can charge them twice. It’s very shady, but not a lie.

Look, the problem I have is that the base game is priced lower, yet the extras are more expensive because for some reason an extra 5€ is suddenly charged, which seems to have no reason other than to grab more money. If it were taxes, then why aren’t they applied to the core game?
I’d like to know why it isn’t 44,99€ – 69,99€ and 94,99€ for Eurozone countries.

Poor kitty. Being able to buy it in your own currency so you needn’t worry about conversions and fees. How terrible!
How lucky I am for you to patronize me. God forbid I’d like to understand where the discrepancy is coming from.
All said and done, I’ve still not gotten a satisfying answer to why the jump from core expansion tot Deluxe is bigger than it is in dollar. It shouldn’t be.
And even if the 99,99€ deal is still an better deal than buying everything separately, it really should still be a 5€ better deal.

Well that makes some sense, but I still don’t fully understand. Are you saying that US people pay the equivalent of 5 euro tax on a character slot?

First of all, this is not about whether or not the price for an expansion is too much. I’m also not going to focus on conversion rates, because that’s probably not how this all works.
However, I would like to know why we Europeans have to pay you extra for the same fluff you add in the Deluxe and Ultimate editions.
In dollar the pricing is 49,99$ – 74,99$ and 99,99$. In euro you correctly price the base expansion at 44,99€, but then price both the Deluxe and Ultimate editions at 74,99€ and 99,99€ euro.
Please tell my why we have to pay an additional 5 euro for this content?
A Greatsaw skin from a BL chest, currently valued at 4500 gold
I used mine immediately though, so that’s not exactly right. But shhhh, it’s the only valuable thing I’ve ever gotten.
Maybe I’m pessimistic, BUT consider this:
In the base game, all classes have 3 elite skills (+ racial elites) and there is no reason to give more than 3 elites to the Revenant. So as stated in the blogpost, every legend has a unique elite skill, this implies to me -> THERE ARE ONLY 3 LEGENDS.
(The specialization may get others too…)
My logical point of view.
- If you add racial Elite skills, which a Revenant might not be able to slot, you’d get 6 legends.
- From healing skills you’d get 5 legends.
- From normal utility skills you’d get about 7 legends.
So 3 legends is very, very unlikely. I’d guess on 5 or 6.
Well you should consider play styles.
Mallyx is offence – condition
Jalis is offence – defense
Both have some form of CC too (unyielding anguish/heavenly rune)
So while considering how many legends there could be and which ones these could be, you should consider the roles they can play because it will be pointless to have overlapping roles.
Shiro for example would probably be a fully offence legend. It’s very likely there will also be a legend which focuses on healing power (i’ll be evil and say Danika ;p )
First of all welcome!
If you’re going to pick a first class, the only advice I have is to steer clear of elementalist especially, thief and mesmer in a lesser way.
Elementalists have the weakest vitality and defense of them all, meaning unless you have a good grasp on the basics of combat, you’re going to die a lot. While it might be a good learning experience to some, it might very well become very frustrating.
Personally I would start with a guardian or ranger. These are more forgiving to play at first, but do not sell them short because it will take skill to master them. Warrior and necromancer are also fairly sturdy choices.
