In the end it is an ascended piece of armor and a bonus item. It takes a long time to craft other ascended equipment too.
You mean like this ascended armour from the living story last year? http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Tempered_Spinal_Blades
Time taken to craft… oh about 5 minutes.
Good for you. It took me weeks because I had to turn sprockets into blade shards.
Isn’t it interesting as well that Minister Estelle claims that Countess Anise was wearing a red cloak when meeting with Scarlet? More specifically a dark red cloak.
I immediately considered it odd that she would be so specific about that encounter, even if she was lying. Jennah wore black and Anise wore red. How is this in any way relevant?
If you want to look deep into this, all of Livia’s outfits were red. But then again it could just be a red herring.
So you have to run level 1 of fractals, something easier than most dungeon paths, five days in a row out of the obligatory 21 days it takes to fully craft the backpack, assuming we don’t buy anything. Big deal.
In the end it is an ascended piece of armor and a bonus item. It takes a long time to craft other ascended equipment too.
I’m sorry but I just can’t take your complaints seriously. If you don’t want to make the backpiece, but you want the bloodstone dust eating plant, then you make it for that. The backpiece is a bonus item for you.
If you don’t want to play Fractals, well I’m sorry but you’ll just have to suck it up. The item only asks for 5 successful completions of Fractals. Any weapon that needs a certain dungeon gift requires 8-9 successful runs of that dungeon.
It’s is not that bad. I barely touched Fractals before and I gathered my mist stone by doing a daily low level run. In the process I tried something “new”, which I’m sure was their intention.
TLDR: The ability to trade in your Bloodstone dust for loot shouldn’t be made available only to those who finish the back piece, it should be available to everyone.
So what? Everyone should get a mail with this item, just like that? Or maybe you’d prefer it being a Gemstore item?
Meanwhile, complaints keep popping up that there is nothing to do, or work towards in the game.
What confuses me about this video is at the very start where you see a winter forest area.
Is this to imply an actual location (I’m not aware of any part of Maguma that has snow) or just a representation of the pale tree when she states “I’m fading”?
Also I JUST noticed that at the very beginning the trees are set up in a way where you can see a female Sylvari face. lol
It could simply be a time indication. The living story will continue in fall and will probably escalate during winter. The vision could imply that these events won’t happen until winter has come to Tyria.
Honestly, I don’t see how it could have any other meaning.
Really? This is what bothers people?
Taimi is a child and hasn’t graduated yet. It’s pretty clear that until she does, all her inventions belong to the school she’s in. For us, as commander of the Pact, to step in and break their laws is a big deal. It would mean complete disregard of the rules in Tyria and would reflect very poorly on the Pact.
What is the big deal anyway? Taimi is obviously throwing a tantrum, like the child she is, not because she’s being wronged but because she doesn’t feel like handing it over.
Her sudden sprint into the desert should have had far worse consequences for her. It’s great how they gloss over it so easily but she broke her race’s rules, endangered a key item to saving Tyria for no reason other than her own selfishness and all in all probably would have died in the desert if not for our convenient timing.
And you dare to claim Phlunt is the bad guy?
A Fresh Start could possibly be a reset for the Glicko rating or rebalancing world WvW populations?
Improvements for new players and veterans alike.
Oh I shudder to think what devilish schemes they are plotting this time. The last improvement for new players and veterans was the change to traits. Oh yes, the enjoyment of levelling improved by leaps and bounds that time…
This first one storywise seems to be our first attempt at taming a Mordremoth sprout. Considering we get a new seed, we should start improving our attempts.
It doesn’t seem out of the question that we might be able to nurture it “into the stats we want”.
Bam!
Instant prestige and rareness surpassing legendaries! (for a few more months at least)
Sunrise / Twilight / Eternity are so overdone.
As silly as it was, it was because they wanted to improve the encounter and make it more difficult. That was the “why”. Throwing a lore spin on it, they explained that due to Zhaitan’s defeat the energies amplified Tequatl. My guess would be similar to how Kormir ascended at Abaddon’s defeat. As different as the gods are to the EDs, there may still be a certain unifying similarity, a law of sorts that must be abidded by.
When did they say this? Was it some simple Q&A thing because I’ve never seen anything substantial about it.
I do recall it being said at the release of Tequatl Rising that his power surge would play a part in the story. Guess not then…
It is highly likely that Rotscale is a champion of an elder dragon, considering Rotscale (along with Kuunavang) was officially compared to Glint at some point.
As a bone dragon, Zhaitan would have been the logical choice. But Zhaitan is no more and we never did learn why Tequatl got a surge of power. I don’t think he really fits the profile for Mordremoth.
Oh hey, welcome to 2014, how was 2012?
I’ll indulge you though!

So it seems like the summit might not even happen?
Taimi failed at fixing the waypoints, as Mordy homed in on her. She and Braham are moving the device and get attacked by Inquest. I guess that means the Arcane Council will not attend the summit.
The Pale Tree gets attacked as well, and even gets a new animation: holding her arms. I guess it’s something to make her look distressed.
After an assault on the Pale Tree, I doubt any of the leaders would agree on a meeting. The risk is far too great.
Btw, that also implies that the Pale Tree is in fact carnivorous. I don’t know about that… ¬¬
I believe you will have to ask your questions to your local fortune teller, because I do not have the power to see the future myself.
However, if they tell you something interesting, do come share!
It’s rather funny how quite a few people believe our main character should be able to go anywhere and demand anything from anyone because of their former feats.
I believe this was one of the main complaints against Trahearne?
Sylvari are magical in nature, and incorruptible by dragons
Actually that isn’t true as they are being corrupted right now by mordremoth, though those under the protection of the pale tree are safe (according to the pale tree)
As for her reason to be back, i hope it is for more than just handing over her sword, though i wouldn’t mind that either :P
Are you sure about that? When I say corruption, I mean dragon corruption (like the branded, icebrood, or the risen). I’ve never observed a corrupted sylvari.
The only “corrupted” part of Scarlet and the assasin was their minds (which means they had psychotic breaks, not actual dragon corruption).
The game hints that the Sylvari may be incorruptible because they originated from a dragon’s power in the first place (meaning you can’t corrupt something that was corrupted in the first place).
Where did you see such hints? The origin of the Sylvari is unknown so far. There’s just as many arguments against this theory.
Also, the game literally shows us that multiple corruptions can occur in the same subject. Being corrupted does not grant you immunity to other corruption.
Well I certainly hope this isn’t a ploy to hint at the Pale Tree’s origin…
Leyline infused Pot -> Ventari’s Sanctuary apparently situated on a powerful Leyline crossing
Purified water -> Pure waters around Ventari’s Sanctuary
Phantasmal essence -> Planted on the corpses of family
Nurtured by a hero -> Nurtured by Ventari
So yea, I see your assumption.
It’s ridiculous. I wanted to craft an ascended set, but the recipes alone were a couple hundreds of gold to buy…
In then end I just bought the recipe for a box of exotic zealot armor. Ascended was just too expensive now.
In the original ending of Season 1, it was revealed that Rox and Rytlock are half-sisters. This seems like that is still true, even if not revealed. Rytlock and Rox talk a lot about knowing each other for a long time, throughout the final step.
That scene seemed all right and sweet for me, because I took it for granted that they are siblings. It also explains better why Rytlock makes a point out of it to give Rox grief “when she needs it”.
However, like you said, it was never revealed. Yet, the story is written out as if we are supposed to know. This is becoming a habit isn’kitten
I like Maaya a lot, but the Moto part makes me think too much of the SAB character.
I’ll go 9/10 for Maaya,
7/10 for Maaya Moto.
… sorry =/
My female Sylvari Mesmer has received a make over and was renamed after the start of the second season LS.
In my personal story for her, she was touched and changed by the pulse through the Leyline that Scarlet set off while travelling in Brisban Wildlands.
She has since been renamed Leyliana, which is of course a contraction of Leyline and Liana and obviously wields leyline weapons
I don’t think non-humans can become ghosts. At least, they have a tougher time of it. Humans are constantly going ghosty.
That makes sense too. Come to think of it, a Sylvari ghost would be quite weird I guess.
Because we don’t even know if Sylvari have souls. If we’d actually see a Sylvari ghost, that would be another mystery solved!
I always enjoy a good portion of optimism, even if it may seem blind to me.
I agree with your post, Queen Malafide, though the emphasis on Bria’s quest seems unnecessary. The fact that this DE has such a long history of problems is a different topic altogether.
The whole crown search is extremely uninspired. The events on which this was tacked on are as much a victim of this living story update as we are.
You have to admit that it’s rather silly to have a Gemstore item be less effective than a chest drop? Tbh, that sounds like bad marketing.
What harm could it cause to have all kites have this effect anyway? The skins are purely cosmetic, and they chest from which the new ones drop will still be opened regardless.
Changing all kites to have this effect is completely harmless, and a nice gesture to your player base.
I assume you mean you have episode 1 & 3 but did not log in during the period episode 2 was available.
The only way to get that story episode is to buy it using gems I’m afraid. You should really log in once every two weeks. That said, it’s not that bad to farm some gold and buy it.
Positive comments have a very rare chance of appearing in topics on the most recent patch, only for the next 2 weeks!
Well at least they provide a use for bought finishers if you don’t wvw/pvp.
It was long overdue someone around me died.
The personal story has taught me that NPC’s around me have a 80-85% mortality rate. If you’re a nameless NPC that shoots up to 95-99%.
No seriously whenever I heard:
“We’ll succeed or die trying”; “He/She is the best around”; “We’ve got your back" and especially “I’ll see you back at the rendezvous/camp/base”, I was like: Well, nice to have known you for about 5 seconds.
How much “skill” do you need in dungeons anyway?
Let’s assume that mister 20k AP is the epitome of skill in his chosen profession. Blindly knows his recharges, damage chains etc etc.
So what good will this super player be in a dungeon if it’s his first time? Fairly little.
Because it’s not about skill, it’s mostly about knowing where to stand, where to run, what to skip, what to abuse.
That’s not skill, that’s simply information you need to have. And that goes for the larger bit of the dungeons.
As much sympathy I have for those 5 minutes a speed runner loses out on by taking less experienced people along and explain the dungeon path to them, I certainly don’t think verbal abuse is warranted for that. Especially when those players have usually clocked over 4 – 5 thousand hours.
How horrible for that 0,000016% of your time.
It’s not much of a mix and match, but this is my current version of my celestial mesmer:
Zodiac chest, gloves and boots with nightmare court leggings:Beautiful job with the colours, like it!
Thank you!
I spent a fair bit of time on getting it right, so I’m delighted to hear it

Let’s clear something up about AP.
AP is not about player skill. It is not about experience.
AP in my opinion measures how seriously you take this game
Actually for a large part AP is much more about how much free time you have on your hands than it is about dedication.
You can take Guild Wars as serious as kitten, but if you don’t have hours to spend on grinding AP (if you call that dedication to begin with), then it ain’t gonna happen.
I do admit the new LS achievements have improved the old formula.
So if you don’t have free time to play the game then how are you going to become that person that knows the content by heart and that people want in their groups?
It still holds up – either you don’t have the time or don’t want to bother and take it seriously but in the end it’s still the same result – there s a bigger chance you’re inexperienced.
I can finish the main story with my chosen profession and then repeat Ascalonian Catacombs hundreds of times in my theoretical ample free time. As a result, I would be more knowledgeable about AC than most of the “experienced” people forming parties, but only have a couple hundred of AP.
It’s not a measure of skill or dedication, but of time spent. Often, these are connected, but that’s not always true.
Someone who has a lot of AP has played a fair amount of hours. That’s the only real conclusion you can make.
(edited by Evans.6347)
It’s just part of their make up I guess.
The whole “we talk slow and childish” Quaggan thing works well enough for cute, cheerful bits (which grow old fast enough too), but while coo-ing their depressing story these two just sound so whiny and useless.
It might not be fair, but the moment I heard them in the story at Kessex Hills I felt so annoyed. shrug

They said that the couple was heading to Kessex Hills, which obviously turned out to be right.
I think they’re annoying, but they must have some sort of “fan base” if they keep them around.
As long as Sylvari do not forcefully push past the Pale Tree’s protection, they seem to be ok. Both Scarlet and Aerin were disconnected through external means.
Obviously the Pale Tree is way too important to die.
Sure, and their F1 can be a ranged spit attack that causes blindness.
It’s even more fun to take you /age in hours and divide it by 16, assuming some form of sleep, nourishment and hygiene. Look how many full days you’ve spent on Guild Wars.
If you’ve played 7000 hours since launch, for example, that means that you’ve spent 65% of your waking hours since launch date on Guild Wars 2.
Perspective, it’s a nice thing.
Mordremoth is going to prove being a bigger threat than the others combined if it can spread it’s corruption through the magical currents of the world.
The other Elder Dragons are relatively quiet at the moment, so if Mordremoth starts his spreading offensive, and even targets the pact as seen in the trailer, then yes it will become a priority target. I assume it would indeed end with his defeat.
I just love Kasmeer’s ambient dialog when you interact with her. I was at the murder scene with Marjory and her and the story was turning grim, I pressed F and somehow interacted with Kasmeer instead of Marjory, so Kasmeer found it fitting to say
“I adore what you’re wearing, I must get a dress that colour”
I’m a male guardian btw…
What’s your point? She was complimenting your dye choice.
God knows too few people compliment me on my fabulous looks.
Besides, what are a few more bodies anyway. We’ve slaughtered hundreds of thousands. Even got achievements for it!
…however… it still begs the question, Mr. Gnashblade, why Abbadon? Why were you so interested in how Abbadon was brought down? Now we know why Thaumanova was important to the living story, of course, Scarlet was involved there looking for a magic current to disrupt. We know that Abbadon was defeated by heroes from GW1 in a completely unrelated incident. But why, then, was it a potential part of the GW2 Mordremothe storyline? What would Abbadon’s death scene have told us about what’s happening today? Since he’s dead, I mean, what significance is there, aside from what he left behind…?
He left behind the goddess of “truth”, namely, and then the Six quietly disappeared. Kormir’s inheritance of power is what remains of that scene, so one possibility is that, had Evon won, we would have witnessed something important about Abbadon which fell to Kormir. The strange drawing of the Pale Tree at the center of the eternal alchemy tells us that structure, (concentric rings, six nodes, duality in the middle) is something repeated, and it’s quite probable that we would have seen the depiction of the Realm-of-Torment-turned-Kormir’s to be an echo of that exact drawing… had we voted for Evon. Also, the steam creature’s Abbadon-face is a good catch, and who else had the opportunity to create that structure than Scarlet? Steam creatures are most probably entirely invented by Scarlet (until they started recreating themselves through artificial intelligence). Would we have seen Scarlet, steam creatures, or anything relating to Mordremothe in the Abbadon Fractal, no way. Since he should have no power left (barring any random possible unknown ends), we’d have to surmise… Scarlet was corrupted by Kormir?
Maybe….. Abbadon didn’t quite fully die, after all. Maybe he’s still alive to this day. (the power of a god cannot be destroyed, sure, but does that inherently kill the previous owner of that power?)
Enjoyable, but the flaw you make is the actually event that the Fractal would show. The Fall of Abaddon wasn’t about our old heroes killing him, but about the battle over the now called crystal desert between Abaddon and his Margonites and the other gods with the Forgotten.
The known ‘facts’ about Abaddon is that he was apparently beautiful and kind, and highly proficient in the use of magic. Slowly he corrupted, with his physical appearance changing accordingly.
He was stronger than a combination of gods together and was called god of secrets. I assume the Fall of Abaddon would have explained some of the said secrets which made him so strong (Ley lines?)
Remember, what happened there changed to ocean to a crystal desert. A giant catastrophe, much like the explosion of Thaumanova.
To be fair, Mordremoth has always been there. In fact, that’s the only way we even know it’s name.
I think it was a nice touch for Dry Top to be considered “Inquest territory” in the story line, as the only early mention of Mordremoth we had came from the Crucible of Eternity.
Also, both Mordy and Bubbles are far easier to work with as they don’t have much of an impact on the zones in which the personal story takes place. As such there’s less chance of conflicting scenario’s.
And the Six know we don’t need more conficts -.-
Anyone that’s up on the lore that can explain a few things? I mean I thought waypoints were more of a game mechanic to deal with travel and it was more of a time saver than an actual in-lore thing. Asura Gates are the in-lore travel devices, that if waypoints are actually in-lore make absolutely no sense. Why have asura gates if everyone can travel via waypoints? That makes the whole original story look dumb because several portions of it are based around asura gates. Otherwise it would have been plonk down a waypoint and lets teleport an army in. Other places it doesn’t make sense either because when waypoints get contested it’s the enemies ignoring a device that will lead to their downfall. For example you don’t think the centaurs would blow up the waypoint in the middle of their base? Or zhaitan have the ones all over his territory destroyed? Or scarlet would have let any of them in Lion’s arch remain?
It seems like a massive plothole. Don’t get me wrong the whole vine thing is really cool, but storywise it seems kind of dumb. I really hope they don’t try to use this as some big plot point because that would seriously be on the level of scarlet. “Oh, yeah the dragon used the fast travel things that all other bad guys in Tyria seemingly forgot existed to corrupt everything”.
I’ll point to an interview from Angel:
Angel McCoy : Absolutely! Waypoints are asuran devices, and all the money you spend to use them goes straight into the coffers at Rata Sum. The asura have been developing these magi-matter-transportive devices for centuries and have seeded them across the world. They’re often contested if creatures or bad guys disrupt the traffic coming through them, but the asura work hard to maintain this money-making web of mini-gates. The fee, in case you wondered, is automatically separated from your person and transported directly into a guarded room in Rata Sum. The coins drop in and pile up there, and workers put them in carts and carry them to the vaults.
Disclaimer: Said information is not found in game and is thus malleable and prone to change.
Wait, what? Konig is leaving the Lore scene?
Oh how I loathe the day I’ll have to turn to Woodenpotatoes for my lore needs…
Don’t look at me like that… I need my fix
Supplementing theory: They’re spreading through the Ley lines.
There’s a study in the Priory, I believe, that explains that some WP’s seem to thrive while others seem to vanish after a while. This is apparently connected to some sort of energy which they haven’t explained yet.
Obviously this energy is Ley lines, which means they might manifest through the WP’s which are situated on certain lines. A flaw in the design. This is also why Prosperity is going to get overgrown. It’s basically sitting on an open connection to the Ley line.
Expect a mini Pale Tree avatar, a birthday booster and another scroll to level to 20 (cause you know you need those after two years of playing).
But since none of the creatures in Dry Top count for their respective achievements, you can’t be sure that this giant will be a giant.
Obviously this isn’t a giant, it’s a behemoth. Totally different things! Honest!
They also come from the sprocket generator. A few each day.
But yea, I made my spinal backpack from scratch post season one. It took a whole lot of money. I only got my Watchwork pick afterwards. That would have made it much easier tbh!
Hah, this ‘gift’ is going to do wonders for her in the relationship with Jory (or any relationship whatsoever).
Nothing screams ‘trust issues’ like being able to tell every lie. People lie. All the time.
I wonder if this is good or bad news for Kasmeer, because I’m still under the impression one of the two is going to kick the bucket at some point.
