@Evans:

Just to awnser the last few paragraphs of your post (as I have probably adressed all of before):

The problem with scaling it to 30-35 plyers would just result in making it supereasy for 80-90 players (Karka Queen is a good example). I personally cannot imagine the ‘right’ scaling for this (and it does scale a bit with player numbers actually). It is simply because humans are playing – the more people there are, the less effort they put into it (just watch how many go AFK on an Inquest Golem Mark II fight).

Also, and this might hurt a bit but: there actually ARE people who lack the skill to do this fight. Yep. Remember when people were complaining about Liadri, that it’s too hard etc.? That was clearly an L2P issue. It’s kind of the same with Teq – there are some people who refuse to do the tactics (eg.: I won’t waste my precious 1s on food/elemental powders/respawn – or go with the commander, heck no one is telling me what to do!).

Why would this hurt unless you imply I lack the skill? Truly, I don’t care either way.
If having to know the right people and wasting hours of your time doing nothing is considered skilful, then I suppose I’m lacking yes.

The fight itself is just poorly implemented and has no real place in the spirit of the game.

How so? How does this ruin the spirit of the game? I assume it ruins it because it “has no place”.

No boss encounter, especially a world boss, should require you to join certain guilds and in fact bypass regular gameplay by deliberately setting up overflows for the select few who get invited in. And no, the chance of beating it by going about this the “normal” way for world bosses is abyssmally low.

It’s already been pointed out there is no need to join a special guild in order to kill this boss. Blackgate had no such guild for many of it’s kills. I’ve never run into that guild actually.

I’ve never seen people “invite” specific people into this fight. You want to kill it? Get on TS and find out where they are. Even this isn’t a requirement anymore. I randomly killed him with commanders and players I’ve never even seen before yesterday.

Define “the normal way”. Is the normal way how you kill all other world bosses? If so, then no thanks.

Accessibility is certainly an issue, but this has more to do with map limits and not the boss itself. If they added any new boss regardless of difficulty it will get flood. The only thing making it easy does is allows any group to kill it. We have tons of bosses like this in game already.

The premise of a large world boss where you have to be in a specific server, specific guild, and specific overflow even to get a remote chance of defeating it kills the purpose of “free for all” content they promised at the launch.

See above, most of those things listed are not required. Perhaps at one time it helped greatly to be on TS (and I promise you, you’ll need it for the wurm) but you do not need a special guild in order to win, or a special server. Some server will have an easier time than others but if a server wants to kill it, eventually they do.

As for “free for all” content. What does this mean? We have a boat load of zerg, “press 1” content already. Do players really want more of this? Does “free for all” mean solo content?

I said it has no place in the spirit of the game because it requires circumvention of regular game play to access. With this I mean that there is almost no chance to beat Tequatl by reading the notice that “there is something stirring” and heading over there. Nope sorry, you had to be here about an hour ago, in the right overflow where a bunch of people have been waiting for him to pop up.

Sure you could be lucky and get thrown in the right overflow, but it is very, very unlikely.

So let’s say one does spend an hour standing about in a designated area for the kill. Even then there’s still a very real chance of failing the event, despite a whole lot of people showing much more coordination than should be expected by random strangers gathering.

I’m very happy for you that you seem to be of the sort that has no issues whatsoever with killing him, but after reading all the comments in this topic, as well as in a whole lot of other topics on Tequatl, is it really that hard to imagine that many people struggle to even beat him once?

Do you think this is alright? That a lot of people are shut out of a part of content by fault of the mechanics instead of their own skill? You admit it’s a problem, but you don’t seem to understand it’s THE problem.

I enjoy all aspects of the fight itself, but the rules of the game it’s part of immediately put a much too great handicap on the people trying it. The boss itself is accessible enough, all can run up to the fight after all. But in order to have a decent shot at killing him that simply is not enough here. Any person simply exploring the area, any idle or afk person is taking away a significant % of the success rate.

So, should it be hard? Definitely! Heck, I’d enjoy seeing large mobs of players wiped out and forced to wp and run back.
Should that be an issue towards beating the boss? Of course! It shouldn’t just be a zerg back and forth.

However! There should not be a penalty for being with too few, within a reasonable margin. Like people say, any world boss should be doable by 30-35 capable players. Also they should ease up the timer so the first 5 minutes of the fight during which many are still flooding in are not as critical to success.

…But I suppose I’m too zealous on the opposite side of the argument. I’ll just reserve my opinion for after the update.

Ugh, the constant beating around the bush is tiresome.

Again, the fight itself isn’t the problem. Nobody is argueing that Teq can’t be beaten. The fight itself is just poorly implemented and has no real place in the spirit of the game.

No boss encounter, especially a world boss, should require you to join certain guilds and in fact bypass regular gameplay by deliberately setting up overflows for the select few who get invited in. And no, the chance of beating it by going about this the “normal” way for world bosses is abyssmally low.

But I’m just repeating the same old same. I would like to enjoy the new bosses, but the way things are looking right now I’m not getting my hopes up.

I like a challenge, but for that I first have to actually be able to access it.

There is a serious trouble with this deal

Evans.6347

So? Up to 50 doesn’t include. You can’t tell what difficulty the new fractals or bosses will have at any level either.

And I can feel your complaint easily in your tone and the little arguments you make. For someone with an impressive amount of (useless) Fractal skins, you are make a big deal out of nothing. You are skilled at it, so going back up from 30 to 50 is not going to take you long. On top of that you’re going to be cashing in a lot of prizes you didn’t have before. You’ll finish your Fractal skin collection still too.

I don’t see how your petty problems, which don’t affect anyone really, can be indicative of the ‘hardcore’ player base in any way either.

Evans.6347

Tbh I couldn’t bother reading the rest after the initial tone of your post and the attached picture. There absolutely no reason to assume top level Fractals are going to be easier. With the new Fractals and bosses it’s even easy to think it will be harder.

So do tell me, what has exactly changed for you? Won’t you enjoy level 50 Fractals anymore if filthy casuals are able to make it up there? You say it isn’t, but objectively, that’s all I can make out of it.

Veteran player, very frustrated.

Evans.6347

Oh come on. All of you ‘veterans’ with obscene high levels in Fractals are going to run the kitten out of Fractals just as before, so your levels are going to skyrocket in no time again either way. And you’re going to make a ton of money out of it quite easily to boot.

This is no big deal, you actually can get back to high levels, as opposed to the poor little plebeians who can’t even make it to level 30 to begin with.

Evans.6347

I share the sentiment. I’m biased because I don’t really like Fractals to begin with, but when I read “better rewards” I immediately thought “Too little, too late”.

I mean really, at this point, what do we even need better rewards for? The only thing slightly interesting would be ascended weapons and armor, and even then… I’d only need that gear in order to progress into a part of the game that’s providing said gear itself. It would be pretty pointless for me.

Observing players in the tower

in The Nightmare Within

Posted by: Evans.6347

Evans.6347

While I don’t consider myself a bad player, nor great, but somewhat above average, I have to admit that I’m guilty of a couple of these points you bring up.

However, in my defence, I find it very hard to keep an overview over combat when so much is going on at the same time. I’ll take the champion spider’s cocoons as an example.

You can see the cocoons made more often than not. So I’d go damage it. In the meantime there are red rings and mines popping up everywhere. Sometimes the mines detonate, but sometimes they are just visual glitches. Meanwhile there is so much sparkle flowing around and people going everywhere that it’s not always clear if there’s enemies around to kill so others can rez and they might be of the Sylvari kind making it even less clear.

I mean you make good points and these things should be considered when there’s only a few people playing, but in a huge sparkling mess I find it really difficult to keep reacting correctly to everything.

I’m not one to advocate the “berserker is the end-all gear”-mentality, however, some of you should do a little more research before mocking Colesy.
Like it or not, the concept of Guardian outdps’ing Warrior under the most optimal circumstances is not new and has in fact been proven. I have yet to see any pull out the calculations to prove otherwise here.

So generally speaking a Warrior will consistently outdps a Guardian, but the Guardian has the higher damage potential. Also, if you run dps Guardian you’ll notice the damage is quite significant all around. It just comes in faster but smaller packages.

Charr age rates?

in Charr

Posted by: Evans.6347

Evans.6347

Charr mature at about the same rate as humans, though they are active in the military from a very young age. Once a cub is weaned, he or she is placed in a fahrar, a group of cubs of similar ages, under the leadership of an older charr, who treats the group as a military unit. This fahrar is the cubs’ first warband, and the ties formed here will continue into adulthood. There is no exact moment when a charr is considered an adult, though most fahrars consider it to be when they no longer need adult supervision and are treated as a full military unit. There is no moment that the charr joins the legions – legion and charr are one in the same.

This was said by Jeff Grubb. There’s also some numbers floating about that full military training would usually take a cub six to eight years. You could thus assume that most Charr mature by the age of 8. However, that doesn’t mean they are the fully grown battle cats we know by then. If you consider they mature like humans, their power would probably peak between 20 and 30 years of age.

As to how old they can become… numbers fluctuate on that. Human can apparently easily live for 100 years, even up to 150 and beyond. Charr’s lifespan is comparable to humans so, take from that what you want.

As for mine, it’s a new elementalist I made in light of the new hairstyles. I’ve taken the obvious Beast from Beauty and the Beast look. Only took 1 hair style and 2 total makeovers to get the clipping minimal

Style basically only consists out of Ascalonian clergy vest and pants, with some low level basic boots. As you can tell, I’ve taken the least menacing route, trying to make a calm, serene and majestic lion.

The problem is that the dye doesn’t work like that on the armor. The leg plates are all one color. It makes the outer part really shiny, and in between kind of an off color.

That dye makes it look like it’s made out of paper.
Also, as a general remark, there are other dyes than black and white. I’m starting to think many people don’t know this.

True, but I think black and white shows off the contrast for the parts that can be dyed really well. If you have another color for the charr set I can take it real quick and post it.

It does cover up the clipping. The chest clips through the shoulders pretty awkwardly. Plus the stretched textures just look so bad. Considering this is supposed to be the “best” armor, it doesn’t look very good.

In the spirit of the real life suits this armor was based on, at the very least use illumination dye on the ornate metallic parts and perhaps burgundy or emerald dye on the cloth parts.

Nobody is at any point forcing you to stand there and press 1. That is your own choice.

Yes, you can do it, while being carried by others in a group. But hey, maybe you could make the whole “ordeal” a little more interesting for yourself and others by using you whole spectrum of skills.

Bah, why am I arguing this anyway. I you want to complain about your self imposed boredom, go on ahead. That’s what a forum is for after all.

I find those events distasteful. You are in a zerg of 100 players wearing cleric’s, shaman’s or any other bad gear. Using more skills doesn’t make it more interesting because you’re basically attacking a dummy.

And I’m actually doing more damage than other zerglings by spamming 1. Not to mention that guardian with a sword or warrior with an axe actually deals the most damage by using only autoattacks.

I don’t expect anything less Haviz, I’m certain you are doing more damage than the others. But can you justify calling something mindless when getting to that point requires a bunch of min-maxing and experience?

Everything can be trivialised, that doesn’t mean that it inherently is.

Not necessarily. A bunch of it can be gathered by pressing F repeatedly too.

You can ridicule all you want but it remains humorous to me that those who are most vocal about the ‘only press 1 to win’ are the ones who religiously preach the necessity of only one stat combination, trait spread and even skill rotation. Somehow, that feels contradictory to me.

So how can I get dragonite ores if not by pressing 1? And for whole armour you will need 3000 ores. That’s 100 boring temple events.
