The direction and state of GW2

The fact of the matter is that you have to pay in order to access either of the mentioned games to its fullest. In LOTRO you can play without spending any money at all, but will miss out on some significant portion of the game without spending money (or spending large amounts of time grinding). In GW2 you cannot play any of the content, including that added content you describe as being accessible without spending money, without dropping some cash on the game. In LOTRO you have the option, if you have more time than money, to get pretty much everything without spending money.

That’s very correct and sensibly put.

I still fail to see where the whole F2P – B2P discussion is going though. They are two different models. One is not necessarily better than the other.

No, you dotnt need “some kind of education” you need specific kind of education.

Sigh… ¬¬

I encourage you to do some research to see whats wrong with that. Its quite nicely documented.

Goodness you are without a doubt the most annoying person I’ve seen on this forum to date.

You were asked a question, if you wanted to make an impression you could have answered it. Going “I know what it is, but I won’t tell you nya nya” makes you look very childish.

If i wanted to teach i would teach at school or uni.

Since i dont want to i wont do it on random forum either.

Never mind the fact that you need some form of education for that.
At the very least I’m glad we’ve cleared up your contribution to this random forum.

Statement: “The game is boring!”
Nuance: after playing for over a year.

If you only spend the original purchase cost, you’ll get plenty of hours of fun out of it before it’ll get “boring”. At that point the game will still update frequently for free, so you might get more out of it at any given point in time.

No no, you misunderstand.
Upgrade a regular ascended ring in the Mystic Forge using 1 Shard of Crystallized Mists Essence, 3 Glob of Coagulated Mists Essence, and 5 Vial of Condensed Mists Essence. It’ll become a Druid’s Circle (Infused) which is different from the regular one so you can equip both. However, don’t upgrade the other one then or you once again won’t be able to wear both.

Scarlet (Villain Sue) in a nutshell.

in Living World

Posted by: Evans.6347

Evans.6347

Mary Sue, Villain Sue. Terms that people throw around like they are the new hipster word of the season. Most of the people here on the board had probably never heard of the term, and now everyone considers themselves an expert.

Well I disagree, and I loathe such sheepish behaviour. A couple of people here have already brought it up, we need to give Scarlet the time to flesh out as a character because she is far deeper than she lets on.

A specific implication:

Alas, you have defeated me! And thus I have learned the error of my ways. I shall be good and sweet and nice from now on.
Just kidding! But you do have my full attention now. I don’t think you’ll enjoy it.
I keep a list of people that need sharp reminders about how insignificant they really are. And you just jumped to the top of it.

It was a well-earned victory, and you should be proud. You should be happy. *No, I mean it: you should be happy. *
So be happy. Right now. Because shortly, very shortly, your life is going to be nothing but tears. See you soon!

They way she tells you to be happy, not in her jester ways, but very serious and sincere… There is a lot more to her, and we’ll get to know all of that over the course of the following months.

infinite tools my solution

in Suggestions

Posted by: Evans.6347

Evans.6347

Considering the amount of topics about the gem store and how it is the spawn of the Devil himself, I find the recent topics like this one pretty humorous. It seems a whole lot of people would be prepared to again spend cash on the same tool, for a different visual.

The problem lies in the tool itself doesn’kitten Account bound tools would not have had this problem, but alas it’s too late to turn back now. The damage is done.

Well, a simple and clean solution would be to make the infinite tools permanently equipped (there’s no point in taking it off anyway right?) unless a different infinite tool is equipped. This would return the other tool to account bound so you can swap it to a different character.

But then again, some people would complain about not being able to unequip tools, for whatever reason.

I said it before, it’s usually not even the low levels that are a problem. They usually know they’ll be less powerful so they’ll try their best. It’s the clueless level 80’s that jump in now that are problematic because they refuse to work together.

The only change that happened is that the lfg website meant you had to be slightly dedicated and had the intention to tackle the dungeon. Now everyone can open the LFG tool in game from anywhere, anytime and go “You know what, I’ll just join that dungeon team. I’ve never done that before but w/e, if it sucks I’ll just leave.”

Still, with my experience being restricted to AC, having a low level group that’s clueless at the burrows part and has a less than favourable profession setup can prove to be an insurmountable challenge.

Because, on the internet, unless strictly moderated, such tools become as good as the worst part of the community. WoW went downhill due to gearscore and other elitist nonsense. Many casuals fled to this game because the community here is intended to be friendly. I hope the worst and the scrub of the internet is handled on the LFG tool. I’m talking about elitists, obviously, those who have no place in this game unless they respect the rights of the casuals.

I consider myself a very tolerant player towards others, so tell me, where do you draw the line between casual friendly and downright intolerable?

Do you think that having 3-4 people wasting hours of their time in a dungeon because the last said player(s), despite being requested in a friendly manner to change some aspect of their playing, still insist on screwing the entire team over by doing it ‘their way’ is ok?

Well, I’m very glad for you it worked out so great for you colesy, but on the flip side of the medal, if said new players dive down in the deep end and instead of swimming they drown, they are put off a profession or perhaps the game itself because they tried too much too quickly. And for what? Worshipped standards.

In the end it’s up to you Segfault to decide if you wants to take the steady road or the instant make or break path. Just take the whole ‘zerk or gtfo mentality with a grain of salt. In most common, casual situations, it’s not going to make such a difference. Least of all 80%. Playing smart comes first, after that you can push the numbers all you like.

A decent way of doing it is by combining weapons in the mystic forge.

4 blues = 1 green
4 greens = 1 rare
4 rares = 1 exotic

Not a 100% reliable way of doing it but you can sell the ones you don’t want for some quick cash and buy one too.

Nope, far from a 100% actually. More like 20% chance of it happening, meaning that depending on what you throw in and what you get, there’s a rather large chance of losing a lot of money there. (cfr. Precursor gambling)

Yeah you’re right, he should totally get Apothecary gear.

Unless he’s part of a speed clear group which specialises in stacking and complementing each other’s weaknesses, I’m fairly certain he’ll function far better in Soldier gear than in Berserker gear to start. On top of that, it’s the staple gear for Tequatl atm and is used fairly often in WvW builds, so I’m not advising useless investments.

He can always save up for any mixture of other gear while using it.

/snip

The problem is that Karma is isn’t that easy to get any more and you still need about 80k of it to get all the Karma gear

/snip

Karma gear is 42K per piece, give or take. so, for full temple armor (regardless of which temple) it would be 252K karma.

The OP mentions he has about 120k karma. There are only 5 pieces of heavy soldier god armour (most efficiently, 4 at Melandru and 1 at Lyssa). That means he approximately needs about 80k more, give or take a few.

Both Melandru and Lyssa are very often freed on most servers. You can always guest on a server that has them open to grab your gear.

Soldier gear is pretty solid a choice all around. It doesn’t excel in damage like berserker does, and you probably should eventually get such a set (COF tokens), but it will be more than enough for the time being and it’s pretty much free.

To be honest, my experiences with the tool over the last 2 days have been all but pleasant. I’ve been running AC for months now, saving up for my legendary, but the groups that were made by the LFG website were of such much better quality than what we get now.

And before you call me an elitist, I spent over 2 hours for path 1 and 2 with “experienced speed groups” in there yesterday, being mister nice guy, desperately trying to explain simple basic strategies and common problems.

In the end some just didn’t understand me, or didn’t bother to try. I’ve always been a fervent opposer of level or class discrimination in dungeons, but the arrogant, unwilling to adapt players that don’t even understand the most basic principles of their profession, which I’ve been bunched up with the last couple of days have made it really hard for me to stand by my principles.

If you promoted your group as “experienced speed clear” you have a right to report those people as griefers imho.

I would agree if people joined a group asking for experienced/speed and didn’t have a clue. However people just don’t read the LFG tool and I don’t think that most of them intend any harm. That’s one of the reasons why more filters would help the overall situation.

I didn’t promote anything, I only joined said groups.
The irony of it all is that the founders of these groups, who actually promote said speedclearing, have no clue what to do. In a couple of cases they even leave the group kicking everyone out of the instance.

While AP/Gear is the best tool we have it’s not perfect. They might also have been new people trying to get experienced people to come and help/leech off of them under the guise of being a speedy group. A lot of things could have gone on there : /

I really have no problem with people trying to learn. But they should be honest about it and be constructive. If they want to learn, they should listen to the “veterans” instead of insisting of doing it their way. Have you ever tried doing the ghost eater with 3 rangers that don’t know (or care) they can put their pet on passive? It grows really old after 30 minutes of being the old nag trying to teach a fundamental skill. Then when you eventually get the whole bunch working together, being rather proud of accomplishing that, you still have to quit because over 3 sprung traps we don’t even have enough dps to get half the bar down. It’s really disappointing, not only for me but also for the people who are trying to learn.

On the other hand I’ve had fun groups with low level newbies who actually ended up carrying some “experienced” lv80’s through the dungeon too. It does work both ways.

The problem with the tool, imho, is that it is open to all the scrubs who just don’t give a rat’s bottom about working together. When we only had the website, it at least meant a sliver of commitment and seriousness to actually look up the site and search for a group.

Try them both, get a feeling of what you like. Generally, guardian will be far more forgiving to learn the basics like dodging and has a pretty linear effectiveness. Mesmers really spark up at level 40 and 60 because they are much more dependant on their traits.
