Answered my own question – it’s normal, and works fine.
The Path Least Travelled, Gunnar’s Hold
Spoke to Ridhais, went to see Miyani and bought the Broken Caladbolg, went back and gave it to Ridhais which unlocked the shard and dreams collections.
But now I don’t have the broken caladbolg in my inventory anymore – is this normal? Dulfy’s guide says you take the two collection items, a vision crystal and the caladbolg back to Ridhais to start the next step.
Checked everywhere, including GW2 efficiency to make sure the sword isn’t somewhere in my inventory but can’t see how it can be as noticed it was missing before I had done anything else with my character.

I like that we have variety. Overall I enjoyed the HoT maps and the meta, but I think it would be a shame if that became uniform for all new maps. Not every map needs a meta event, and some maps like Ember Bay which are more open with a variety of events, hearts and more localised activity are fun too.
Going forward I hope we get a mixture – some with a variety of activities such as Ember Bay and the core Tyria zones, and some new maps with meta events like HoT. Some maps with all the verticality we’ve seen in VB and TD, and some wide open huge maps that go for wide expanses and great distances.
Let’s mix it up and keep it varied – then players can choose to play the content they prefer.
The Path Least Travelled, Gunnar’s Hold
It would be great if someone at Anet could add in some updrafts on the core Tyrian maps – perhaps as a side project, a bit like the development of the action camera…
The Path Least Travelled, Gunnar’s Hold
I fully understand the concerns raised above but this would be quite a nice convenient feature for those who like alts but have levelled so many times the novelty has worn off.
However, the instant setup of exotic equipment and runes is quite a valuable perk and I would go so far as to say you would need at least 160, or even a full-stack of tomes, to equal this in value.
As for the work for Anet – yes they do have a lot on, but this could be quite easily added as an item on Miyani’s list without having to create a new vendor, and they clearly already have the coding for it after releasing the inst-80 item in the Spring release.
All that said, I would be surprised if this actually happened!
The Path Least Travelled, Gunnar’s Hold
I would be against this because it would be detrimental to build diversity.
Clever use of boon-stacking and conditions allows for some fun, balanced and interesting builds – and adds a layer of complexity to build design which is fun for those of us who enjoy that sort of thing. It would be sad to see that go.

Fused, Chaos and Tormented weapons skins please…
The Path Least Travelled, Gunnar’s Hold
I think it would help if the guild hall system was opened up so that it became accessible and relevant to very small ‘friends & family’ guilds. Maybe a variety of smaller guild halls that did not require a large organised group to obtain and develop?
You could even have options for single player ‘guilds’ and develop personal housing that way.
Then the scribing and decoration system would have much wider relevance across the whole player base.
The Path Least Travelled, Gunnar’s Hold
More of a plea than a suggestion…
How about for the game’s 4th birthday in August, the Birthday Present contains a Celebratory Black Lion Weapon Skin Pack?
This would be similar to the Celebratory Dye Pack offered in the 3rd anniversary presents, but would, as the name suggests, offer the choice of a single weapon skin. It would be a chance to pick up a few of the discontinued skins and complete weapon sets that are now gated behind huge prices on the TP or are simply unavailable.
For me, I collected quite a few of the Fused skins when they came out, but would like the longbow and dagger now that builds and main characters have changed over the years.
Not ground breaking stuff but I’m sure this would be a popular inclusion in the Birthday Present…
The Path Least Travelled, Gunnar’s Hold
Yassith’s Short Bow recipe is on the TP for 30 silver at present.
The rate limiting step I found is the fulgurites and obtaining enough obsidian to make 450 of them for an armour set. The auric dust, airship oil and ley line sparks have become relatively easy to obtain since the spring update.
The Path Least Travelled, Gunnar’s Hold
That’s a good idea Flakkenmarsh and would do the trick nicely.

My guild and I enjoy using the Royal Terrace area as a convenient place to meet up, inventorise, bank, trade and craft. One of the minor irritations is that if we log out with our characters in the VIP area, when logging back in we get the ‘being kicked out’ animation even though we have the VIP pass in our inventory.
Is there a way the game could check whether the necessary pass is present in the inventory on logging in, and if so, allow the character to log in to the Royal Terrace where they were before? Or, at the very least, log back in standing near the entrance without the animation – it’s funny one or two times but gets rather old after that!
A similar request would apply to the Captain’s Airship, although the kick out is not quite as irritating as for the Royal Terrace.
Not a big deal by any means, but just a little request

I mostly play a warrior these days. I don’t have strong preferences as to the weapon, as long as it means 5 new skills to experiment with. A pistol or dagger would be OK as long as it can be used in either hand for dual-wielding.
Scepter might be stretching it a bit though for a non-magic profession. I can picture hordes of burly charr running around with princess wands…
The Path Least Travelled, Gunnar’s Hold
I agree – it would be sensible to disable the scream for characters who have the gliding mastery ability enabled.
Can’t have our heroic character, Commander of the Pact, Slayer of Zhaitan etc, etc, screaming like a little girl every time he jumps off a branch with a glider on his back – lol!
The Path Least Travelled, Gunnar’s Hold
Always been a bit of an axe-man with warrior mains in both GW and GW2.
My favourite has been the Fused axe skin along with the greatsword – but Chaos, Tormented and Mistforged axes have come a close second. I also quite like the Ambrite skins from Dry Top.
No disrespect to those who like it, but I’ve never been a fan of Frostfang. I do like an axe to look like an axe.
The new skins for HoT look excellent.

I think it would help if the events could scale higher than they currently do with number of players around. With the megaservers and new dailies concentrating players into a particular zone, some events are over in a flash and can be hard to tag even with good DPS.
I actually really like the new system because it does encourage players to revisit zones, and makes them feel lively and well-populated – I just feel the events need to scale higher now that the majority of the player-base are maxed out in level and builds, and know he events well.

Resistance is futile ;-)

I’m happy with the current state of the game too, especially now we know there is an expansion inbound. I’m not sure making a 10-man raid of current dungeon paths would work, as it would probably just end up being more of a mini-zerg than anything new.
However – I could see a place for something novel, like a GW2 version of Fissure of Woe or the Underworld zones from GW where a larger team of 10-12 players would need to split up to master several objectives across the map. That could be interesting if it was done well.
The Path Least Travelled, Gunnar’s Hold
Loved the metal box with the first CE, the art work and the Rytlock figure which still sits on my desk now. I’d like to see similar items in a HoT collector’s edition.
As for digital items – I would most like to see a cool glider skin – dyeable if possible, although not a deal-breaker if not. A few armor or weapon skins would be nice, or even just some Black Lion claim tickets, as well as the usual minipets, boosters etc you would expect.
The Path Least Travelled, Gunnar’s Hold
Some very good points and I agree that there will many ways through collections, precursors, and dailies to keep the older zones relevant – not to mention further episodes of the LS and masteries.
In addition, the need for the lower tier materials in crafting high end armour and weapons is a very sensible design, and I hope this continues. If jeweler gets to 500 for ascended trinkets in the future there will be more use for copper, silver and gold too. At present the only place to obtain these materials is in the lower level zones.
The Path Least Travelled, Gunnar’s Hold
I agree – witnessed a similar episode with Nebo Terrace today as well. Excellent work and very enjoyable.
With the new daily system (which I quite enjoy as it does focus players on a specific zone) there is an increased need for events to scale up enough to cope with a horde of level 80 ascended godlings running around, so it was nice to see this happening.
Hopefully this will be rolled out across more dynamic events as time permits, especially in the lower level zones.
The Path Least Travelled, Gunnar’s Hold
I’d be surprised if we did not see a few zones covering the Maguuma region – and I’m pretty sure I heard the term ‘maps’, plural, mentioned by one of the speakers when referring to exploration – although not 100% certain.
My guess for the future would be that a few months after the expansion, we will see the return of Living Story to take the story onward and set the scene for the next dragon we will face.
Then in 12-18 months the next expansion will arrive with zones in the appropriate region – for example if the next dragon is Jormag, we’ll see more zones expanding north, towards the Eye of the North territories; if it’s Kralkatorrak, we’ll see zones covering the Crystal Desert etc
No evidence for this, mind you, but seems a logical way to proceed.
The Path Least Travelled, Gunnar’s Hold
Of course – in fact I’ll be buying six copies of it. My five sons and I all play.
The Path Least Travelled, Gunnar’s Hold
A new race may come in time – just not with this expansion. Looks like we’ll see more expansions in years to come for the other dragons, with living story in between. No reason to think new races won’t be included in those – perhaps when they fit better with the story…
The Path Least Travelled, Gunnar’s Hold
Yes please – I’m stuck at work till 6pm and the blocking software won’t allow gaming sites, except oddly, this forum. Any details will be very much appreciated!!
The Path Least Travelled, Gunnar’s Hold
I agree this would be a nice addition. The other related item I’d like to see is the ability to toggle the UI on and off so we can take screenshots with our character but without the distracting UI elements.
Not the end of the world if it is not possible, but would be nice for those of us who enjoy taking pictures of our time in Tyria.
The Path Least Travelled, Gunnar’s Hold
I wonder whether it would be better to abandon the idea of contested waypoints completely given that it is no longer possible to make the system function correctly – make them all open, possibly moving a few if necessary.
At the moment it just feels like a bit of a kludge. It’s not the end of the world, and certainly not a game-breaking issue – it is just inelegant and annoying.
The Path Least Travelled, Gunnar’s Hold
Don’t forget you don’t necessarily need the versatile infusions.
For example the Versatile Mighty Infusion gives +5 power +5 AR and requires 250 powerful blood, 100 passion FLOWER, 50 mystic coins and 100 philosopher’s stones.
The Mighty Infusion also gives the same stats +5 power and + 5 AR but is less than half the price (still not cheap I grant you) at 100 powerful blood, 250 passion FRUIT, 20 mystic coins and 20 philosopher’s stones.
The only difference is that the versatile infusions can be used in either offensive or defensive slots. Only really useful if you were trying to completely min/max your stats, but the AR is identical.
Across ascended armor, trinkets, backpiece and weapons there are 16 infusion slots, at least 6 offensive and at least 8 defensive with some wiggle room on the amulet and backpiece. You can get 80 AR using the ordinary rather than versatile infusions and choose power + vitality stats for instance. Overall this is still not cheap but far less gougingly expensive than using the versatile infusions. This is before you even think of adding the additional agony infusion slots to rings and backpiece.

This is important in a game where we work for horizontal and cosmetic progression – it will certainly put me off transmuting any weapons until this is fixed.
I was particularly looking forward to using the Fused Greatsword skin soulbound to my guardian on my warrior – but it won’t be the same if it loses the name, it would just seem fake in some way.
I’m really enjoying the majority of the other features in the patch, but +1 for hoping the devs sort this out soon.
The Path Least Travelled, Gunnar’s Hold
@ThiBash – I agree absolutely that there are a lot of other areas where improvement is needed, and I’m not suggesting this as a particular priority. It’s just that I’ve seen a lot of discussion about these other topics, but I didn’t recall seeing this one mentioned. After messing up royally in a Tequatl event last night when I was stuck trying to change weapons with AOE popping me in and out of combat, it prompted me to write about this today
The Path Least Travelled, Gunnar’s Hold
Just an idea for a quality-of-life enhancement which would be convenient and may earn some money for Anet.
This would not change the current in-combat weapon-swapping arrangements which most professions except elementalists and engineers employ.
At present, if we want to un-equip and change to an alternative weapon set – for instance, switching between melee and ranged weapons (axe/mace + greatsword to longbow + rifle) – we have to open a menu to do this, and it can be quite cumbersome, especially when weapons can pop into an unexpected slot in a relatively full inventory.
My suggestion is for one or more ADDITIONAL weapon-sets which could only be swapped OUT OF COMBAT. There would be a small screen icon near the skill bar and the option of binding this to a hot key.
This could therefore be open to all professions including elementalists and engineers. It would not affect balance of play in combat but would simply enhance convenience, especially in big events like Tequatl or WvW where one may need to change combat modes frequently.
As a convenience item, it could be sold in the Gem Store in the same way as the current Bank Slot and Collection enhancements.
Just an idea. I did a quick search the forums for similar ideas but nothing came up. Any comments beyond the usual ’don’t waste resources on anything but bug fixes’ responses?

It’s quite easy to accidentally pick up someone’s banner when pressing ‘F’ to collect loot during a large open world fight – it’s hard to see the banner amongst all the particle effects, and it’s easy to mistake the yellow dialogue thing for the loot one. I always put it straight down again, but many of the episodes mentioned above are probably not intentional.
The Path Least Travelled, Gunnar’s Hold
+1 great idea
Anet could have a lot of fun with this and produce some wood & brass steampunk contraptions on a big wooden tripod, which would look great. Higher res screenshots would be excellent and an Instagram-like interface could be fun too.
How about a /photo emote for characters and /photo * for groups that turn the idle animation into something more photogenic for group shots?
The Path Least Travelled, Gunnar’s Hold
Hmmm, Kaineng’s come a long way in 250 years…
The Path Least Travelled, Gunnar’s Hold
I agree some of the mid-level areas can feel empty – I think some just have a more pleasant ambience than others and feel more inviting to spend time when doing the dailies. Apart from boss chests, there are particular areas where there are rapidly cycling events for daily completion, or veterans, or kill variety hot spots etc. These all tend to make particular areas busier at the expense of others.
Some good ideas have been suggested already, but I would suggest a weekly bonus system that draws people to a particular zone. Something like the old ‘Nicholas the Traveller’ from GW1, where the NPC in question would appear in a random place anywhere in the world each week offering gifts in exchange for particular trophies that could be farmed from the nearby mobs. The gifts contained mostly fun items such as tonics and fireworks but the rare chance of some unique skins (such as the vampiric dragon sword). I’m not suggesting they clone this idea exactly as GW2 is a new game, but the concept is sound and it could be a fun way of drawing players to the zones without introducing yet another currency.

I’ve noticed this. My main is a hammer/GS norn guardian and I’ve noticed that not many hammer skins look meaty enough when wielded by a norn.
I do have the fused hammer and GS for my bloodlust weapon set, but at the moment my favourite hammer skin is Magmaton, which doesn’t suffer from the flat look.
Working slowly towards Juggernaut, which does look nice – but half hoping there might be some alternative legendary skins by then – maybe for the 1st Year Anniversary celebrations, hint, hint, Anet?
The Path Least Travelled, Gunnar’s Hold
GW1 – my main was a warrior called Godrik Gandolfi.
In GW2 I decided he’s still around, rocking the bearded white-haired ancient warrior look. Kormir owed him a few favours after all.
I have two main characters now, my human warrior has been joined by a norn guardian. I’ve levelled eight characters to 80, one of each profession, but these two see the most action at the moment.
The Path Least Travelled, Gunnar’s Hold
I’m GWAMM and 50/50, my GW1 character was Godrik Gandolfi – same as my GW2 warrior listed in my sig. I now have eight GW2 chars at level 80 full exo, one of each profession.
GW1 was my first MMO and holds very fond memories for me (and for my two oldest sons who played through it with me). We love GW2 though, and although we’ve taken a few walks down memory lane in GW1, the future lies with the sequel. Now four of my sons play the game with me and we are having a great time getting our little friends and family guild into shape to work through all the dungeons.
This is truly a great game, in my opinion. It needs some time to mature in order to grow the richness and complexity we saw in GW1, but from what I’ve seen lately I’m confident we’ll get there.
The Path Least Travelled, Gunnar’s Hold
I can see this from both sides, but while I’m pleased to see the current focus on polishing up the core of the existing game, we should remember that a large part of the attraction of an MMO is exploring new content, striving to attain new rewards and achievements, and watching the world grow in richness and complexity. There needs to be a balanced approach and in my opinion Anet are actually doing quite well in this regard.
I think adding in a new batch of legendaries once a year would be reasonable, maybe as part of an anniversary celebration or expansion. It would be better if at the same time a bunch of other more accessible new skins were added as well.
The Path Least Travelled, Gunnar’s Hold
+1
Love the pets, especially the bee dog, but I agree would look better without the blue glow.
The Path Least Travelled, Gunnar’s Hold
What an amazing update – love it! Big thanks to all who worked on this. Was running around this with my friends last night and large nostalgic grins all round.
I had an interesting conversation with my sons (four of them play the game) who also loved the box, but could not quite believe that in the old days all video games were like this…
I agree with making this a permanent feature. All the racial cities were supposed to have mini games, so why not just make this one the games for Rata Sum, especially as polymock is not ready yet?
The Path Least Travelled, Gunnar’s Hold
I rather like the halloween ghost – the one that looks like a sheet with the eye-holes. I usually have him following me around.
The Path Least Travelled, Gunnar’s Hold
Yes I’d love to see guild halls back in the game, and ideally linked to a GvG system as it was in GW1.
Would hate to see them gated behind such huge influence costs that only the mega-guilds could afford them though.
I would suggest only a modest threshold to start with so that most guilds can acquire a basic guild hall and get onto the ‘property ladder’ so to speak. Then have lots of customization options, useful NPCs and upgrades which can be added as influence-sinks for guilds to work towards through activities and guild missions etc
The Path Least Travelled, Gunnar’s Hold
Yeah – I love this set as well. Use it on my elementalist and mesmer in different colours. I also thought it looked quite good on my charr necro but he’s since moved on to tier 1 cultural gear.
The Path Least Travelled, Gunnar’s Hold
On Gunnar’s Hold there is usually a run of the event chain starting at Fort Trinity 8pm GMT most evenings. It’s a nice sociable run organised by a few friendly local commanders, and even if you can’t join the events, I usually find the cathedral open for shard shopping around 8.30 – 9pm most evenings.
The Path Least Travelled, Gunnar’s Hold
From reading the forums, it looks like many small guilds will be struggling to unlock and take part in Guild Missions because of the high influence-cost involved. For my part I’m happy with my small ‘friends & family’ guild, The Path Least Travelled [PATH], but would like to find a way to take part in guild missions without losing the identity of my small guild.
There have been a few suggestions for alliances of small guilds on the American servers, but I don’t think many on the EU side.
My idea is for an alliance guild, Small Guild Union [SGU] which would act as a second guild for its members. It would exist for the purpose of unlocking and running the guild missions and any other future content that needs more players than a typical small guild can muster. It could also serve as an easy way to find people you know to run dungeons etc with if your own guild is a little quiet.
Guild leaders who join up would be given co-leader status of SGU, and there are no representation requirements for members except to represent during guild missions. At the beginning we might need to agree ‘donating’ representation for a week or two to get enough influence to unlock missions. If it takes off the SGU could be a fun way to take on bigger and tougher content and get to know a wider group of people, but without losing the identity of your own guild.
This is only just starting and I’d love to hear from other small guild leaders interested in helping to build this. PM me in the forums, or whisper me in-game. I’m based in the UK and play most evenings.
The Path Least Travelled, Gunnar’s Hold
A much needed change – a lot of people have been asking for this for a long time and I’m really pleased to see that Anet are listening.
The economy will settle into a new equilibrium, power traders will quickly learn to adapt – but the most important thing is that the ‘feel-good factor’ is coming back to the game.
Much better to be out in the open world with other players hunting bosses and having fun, and feeling like you are making a little progress towards your legendary or other high-end gear you’re aiming for. It’s not like we’re suddenly getting exotics drop all over the place.
Anyway – I’m happy with the way this seems to be going.
The Path Least Travelled, Gunnar’s Hold
This is a great idea.
So for Europe – I’m on Gunnar’s Hold, and I’ve just snagged the name ‘Small Guild Union [SGU]’ to act as a hub for small guilds locally. I’m leader of a small 6-person ‘friends and family’ guild myself, with no desire to be in a mega-guild but would like to have access to guild missions, and the possibilities for easier group finding an alliance would offer. Would be nice to meet some new people too
I’d agree with this acting as a second guild for all members, with no requirement to represent except when actually doing Guild Missions.
Guild Leaders of member guilds would be given co-leader status – I don’t feel any need to ‘own’ this myself and could really do with the help. We’d be starting from scratch so anyone happy to ‘donate’ representation for a week or two to get things going would be appreciated but not required.
Main aim for [SGU] is to gain access for all members to Guild Missions and rewards, and act as an alliance roster.
PM me here or in game if you or your guild are interested and are on Gunnar’s Hold or other EU server
