I say this should be fixed not so much from a balance perspective but from a logic one.
If I can use my warhorn to call birds on somebody and the moment I lose LoS on the person my birds stop doing damage due to ’obstructed’ (while still on the person’s head). Why should an ele be able to cast a spell without LoS?
If birds sitting on someone’s head stop doing damage because they can’t see me anymore, why should anything? Are the birds unionized and stop working the moment their boss stops looking?
I also like most of the mobs, not only do they add unknown factors to a fight, they make the zones seem a bit more alive, and give player sentries something to kill while watching their posts.
Saying they all should be removed sounds a lot like the folks who insist Super Smash Brothers would be a better game with no items and only final destination for map choice. Knowing how to use your environment to your advantage, and take advantage of opportunities that arise from chance is a skill too ya know.
I do kinda see where folks are coming from with the spirit and grub though, while I’m not sure they should be removed entirely they should probably be weakened, or their locations randomized.
They can both distract pug zergs for quite some time, and give southwest side an advantage because of that since they don’t have a comparable distraction. Mosquitoes doesn’t even come close.
There is too much arguing in this thread. Everybody chill and check out this adorable kitten, it is wide eyed at how many times it has been mentioned in this thread.
As always, great fights everybody. Lets keep the fighting on the field.
Good fights at DB Garry last night. Managing to hold for at least two hours with JQ hitting from one side and BG hitting from another was no small feat, even when I’ve said time and time again that we are not ready for T1 fights.
Hoping for more great battles throughout the week, I have the utmost respect for members of PRX, from my time on JQ, and it was a pleasure to get the chance to fight you.
(P.S. Because I was informed this may be misinterpreted, I am not complaining about 2v1. Borderlands garrison is always a common target for both opposing servers, it is inevitable that both would strike the same target. And it is only good sense to try to avoid fighting the other when that happens.)
Pretty early, but Mag is putting up a good fight.
They are certainly capable fighters, if they can keep this up they have a shot at winning.
In all seriousness, and despite all the crap talking I have done recently:
This has been a great matchup. Every week has been fun.
With the changes coming up, we could be seeing some different opponents…lets just remember how much better Tier 2 in its current state is right now as opposed to Tier 1.
Lets face it, we are better servers than them. They have coverage. Otherwise they are weak sauce.
First time in this matchup as a recent transfer from T1 to T2. These are definitely far more entertaining fights than the tier 1 fights. Tier 1 is full of inter-guild drama and kittentalking. In this tier people actually do things instead of just talking about doing things.
A week ago I was unsure of the decision to transfer, now I’m happy we did. Keep up the good fighting everybody!
The human annoys his ’friends’ and neighbors constantly. To the point where they hide from him. So he goes to the black lion trading post where he purchases goods for his business. Where the human satisfies his social need by chatting up the help.
The skritt, while smarter than other skritt, whether through the skritt community in lions arch or being an unusually smart individual(which seems more likely as there does not appear to be a large skritt presence in LA), is not quite smart enough to gracefully exit the conversation.
The human is also clearly an idiot, because he’s willing to pay 10 gold for centaur arrowheads, potentially 20 gold. The skritt is clearly the superior businessrat.
Since someone has already mentioned the news in the thread, there’s no need to hide it any longer I guess.
stufflol. Yet another person that claims to be on JQ. Hey friend if you’re on JQ why don’t you come on over to our forums and talk about what you’re feeling. Because no one else is feeling the same way. (Just checked you’re currently not a member)
Or maybe you need to step into the TS server and be a part of what is going on in WvW.
My guild lead is probably going to have a fit for me saying this. But everything Showatt* (misquoted) says is the truth. People on the JQ forums are afraid to mention it, and if you have been on the TS lately you can cut the tension between certain guilds with a knife.
We are not the same JQ we used to be. Everyone hangs out in their own guild channels instead of the borderland channels because they don’t want to deal with eachother’s kitten outside reset night.
Naturally that will reduce our capability significantly

That was a cool ending. It’s animated.
That was something like the holy grail of old school game endings back when I was young. :P
Don’t feel bad, I posted my screenshot in this thread first, somebody beat me too.
To beat the frogs you stand just at the edge of their range and do a short hop. They can only do the max height one, while they are jumping rush in and kick them.
If yer on Rytlock mode run back out again and do it again, they’ll get another attack off before you can hit them again otherwise.
Beat it on Rytlock and found all treasures. Does a screenshot count as a wizard license now?
Darn I was hoping I would be the first to post my wizard license.

Pretty cool game for something thrown together on a whim.
I run spirit spec but don’t use an axe. It ’feels’ like they proc on bounces too just from observation of my allies. But as I’m not them I don’t know if they have something else unrelated to my spirits causing the effects.
A way to test would probably be to set your pet on passive and throw some axes at a group of mobs with a sun spirit out, and keep an eye out for any mobs besides your main target catching fire. Or have a stone spirit out and keep an eye out for what target your axe is hitting when the protection procs.
I think there’s even some golems in heart of the mists that are perfect for this, if you don’t mind using your PvP set to test.
In Plains of ashford there’s a sword in a stone with an unreadable engraving. In the same room is a Frog and a cat named Alfa.
Stealth Chrono Trigger reference? Magus’ cat was named Alfador.
I like them. But I think they are suffering a two part problem.
That a lot of folks don’t have elementalists, and think that taking one is akin to running off with a warrior banner.
And folks are attached to their current weapon, and don’t want the potential effectiveness drop from learning to use a new environmental weapon mid battle.
Multiple ways to fish would be nice.
Want to fish from land? get a fishing rod, using the rod gives you fishing controls and spawns some catch-able fish (variable by location of course) in nearby water. Cast out into the water and manipulate the lure from shore. Camera tries to keep the lure and you character on screen at the same time.
If anyone remembers Breath of Fire 3 that fishing minigame is about what I’m thinking. It was very well done, and relatively simple down in the mechanics of it.
Don’t want to have to focus on a minigame? One of the buttons in the minigame activates a simple auto mode. Your character casts the line, and slowly reels it in, before casting again. This causes the fishing to be closer to what World of warcraft has. If you land a fish you get an indication and you just click the lure before it reaches shore to actually catch your fish. If you fail to catch a fish that gets hooked the auto mode ends, to make botting harder. The auto system of course should have a bias for lower ’tier’ fish. If you don’t want to focus on it you shouldn’t catch the harder to get ones as often.
Want to fish from water? Get a net. Activate the net in the same way and fish spawn around you. Swim up to a fish and use a catch ability to catch it. Fish of course try to avoid you, and it should be easier to catch some fish with a net instead of a rod (the fish doesn’t like any bait, but it’s fairly slow) and vice versa (The fish is lightning fast and is quick to flee, but loves bait).
There we go, 2 systems, both functional and relatively engaging ways to fish, and both possible with current environmental weapon mechanics from what I’ve seen.
P.S. And the level of the fish should NOT be dependent on the level of the zone, more the theme of the zone. And ideally you should be able to catch different fish in different spots in the same zone. Just because a sea bass might be a high level fish does not mean you should not be able to find one or two in say, lions arch, or the Silvari starter area, as well as Southsun or Sparkfly. It is a fish, it cares little for your ideas of ’level’.

Except that the skritt would probably steal the statue to take it closer to their scratch, starting a racewar between Skritt and Grawl, causing the Skritt to design superpowered weaponry based on some kind of bizarre twins theme, wipe out the Grawl and then see that they are strong enough to take the major races shinies and go to war with us.
I for one welcome our new Skritt overlords.

People have different ways they play the game.
I have not significantly grinded in this game yet. I don’t do anything in the game unless I want to do it for fun. Which seems to be the opposite of a grind. I’m still playing, I’m still enjoying the game, and I have some ascended gear. In my experience with the game they have kept their promise.
Some play it for the destination. They don’t feel satisfied until they obtain something, and that’s a perfectly reasonable way to play the game too. For these people they see the journey as a grind, and force themselves to continue doing a particular task even when they don’t want to. For them yes, they see it as a broken promise.
It’s really just the two playstyles clashing, the old ’what’s more enjoyable, the journey or the destination?’ thing.
250,000 kills huh?
24 kills per day, every day, comes out to 434 days to get the title. That does sound more than a little absurd. Especially for the more support-y and controll-y folks who aren’t set up to throw up a blanket of AoE and rake in the kills.
I would have to agree, that title at least seems like it needs some readjustment.
And as a side note to the OP, I’m not a grammar Nazi. I was always terrible at grammar, but some more well placed capital letters would do wonders in making your post both more readable, and more likely to be taken seriously.
I’m tired of seeing all the dawns, twilights, eternitys, CoF armor, molten greatswords, leather trenchcoats, ghastly greatswords, temple heavy helmets, and charrzooka rifles.
I want to see more Howler, bolt, Ebon vanguard weapons, and leather vests.
There IS a distinct lack of fish cooking ingredients, I would expect some for sale from vendors or looted from bags at least. So I would not be surprised if fishing in some way shape or form is already planned for the future.
I think he can corrupt living things. In the helping skritt storyline we come across a bunch of "shiny" destroyer eggs.
Tybalt says something along the lines of corrupted creatures being unable to reproduce, but thinks that in this case we just came across a creature that was already pregnant when it was corrupted. So it sounds to me like Primordus can corrupt living things just like the others.
Obviously that’s because the Order of Whispers and Priory are smarter than the Vigil.
Here lies the ranger Ramtak, who learned that you should be sure of what is, or perhaps most importantly what is not behind you before using hornets sting.
She is survived by her sylvan wolf and reef drake who will miss her greatly until somebody else fills the food bowl.
No. It is most likely an exploit. Even without walljumping or what-have-you the area is obviously meant to not be accessible from the outside so any way in would still be an exploit.
That said, there is no benefit that I am aware of for going up there. So while the possibility is there, I’m sure ANet has bigger fish to fry unless folks start doing it in mass.
Asura just haven’t learned how to hop on the back of a Charr yet without getting eaten. Once they have the technology battle steeds will be a reality, and everyone will be happy.
Except maybe the Charr players.
That’s kinda something that gets me. They removed the keys, but I’ve heard some people complaining about that.
Maybe it’s just me, but you can trade gold for gems and get a key for about 2g 50s. I always found gathering up that many coins a lot easier than gathering up that many commendations. Was there some trick I missed?
My guild lead is an Asura.
I would be all for having them sitting on my charr’s back as I run on all fours into battle. Especially since as one of maybe two Charr in the entire guild I appear to be the guild’s mascot.
I was kind of surprised that Asura couldn’t help the Skritt, yea they were enemies, but now they do seem to fall more towards the experiment on them side than the exterminate them one.
And although I love the Skritt I was equally surprised my Charr could help them. I mean, cats and mice, comon, that is one of those things that are soooooo cliche that its bizarre to not see it used. Before seeing that I would not have not batted an eye at Skritt kebabs as being some kind of Charr delicacy.
I haven’t seen the OPs problem, I rarely hear people playing the bells, and when they do they are attempting to play music. They don’t always do the best job of it, but there are other, more annoying methods to spam sound effects that don’t require the troll to spend a silver for every minute of trolling.
I would love more options, I am a pro-options kind of person, and while I probably wouldn’t adjust it myself I would be all for a volume slider for player made sound effects. Just for more ways to customize your play experience.
But bells seems to be a silly reason for it, and I would rather have the live dev team spend time working on important issues.
From what I heard it was a temporary measure while they do some reworking on it and it will be reintroduced.
I don’t see what was wrong with it originally, but there may have been something wrong someplace where players don’t see.
I agree that most of the armor sets doo look pretty good. There are additions I would like to see though.
More options for medium chest armor. I assume the same is true for light legs. While they look good, not every medium character wants to wear a trenchcoat. Sure there are a few options but they are a very few. For all my pre lv 80 time on my ranger the only medium chest I liked was the invader medium chest.
I would like to be able to have some of the outfits NPCs have. There seems to be quite a large variety of charr ’civilian’ clothes yet there seems that there is only one available to players. I assume it’s the same with the other races.
Aren’t hylek extremely poisonous?
1. I would say yea, I think that’s the reason. The racial cities are ghost towns, and most of the lower level zones are much more sparsely populated. But Lions Arch is still a happening place.
You probably hit at a low population spot too, holiday event just ended, and folks may be a bit burnt out. There was also the latest wave of controversial bans, that probably has a few people too disgusted to play til they give their emotions a few days to cool. I figure population will be up a bit in a week or so.
2. No dueling. Hope for the future since there’s supposed to be major updated in the next few months for all aspects of the game, but no official word.
3. It seems a bit better. Still some imbalances, but as long as you stay out of the ranger board and avoid any thread mentioning thieves you probably won’t notice.
4. Harder to get dungeon groups, for anything but Fractals of the Mists (a new dungeon) but the majority of the bugs were fixed, and they are easier now that more people know how to play their classes.
5. Fractals of the mists lets people grind for ascended gear, and even when they have all the ascended gear available they can still continue grinding harder and harder fractals just for bragging rights.
I just see it as converting a bunch of T5 mats and metal/silk/leather/whathaveyou into ectos. Those mats take time to farm, and the folks that are too lazy to farm them increases the demand for them. Last I checked about a week ago, silk was not worth selling, too much supply, not enough demand. Sounds pretty beneficial.
If doing it with one recipe is an exploit just because the mats happened to be cheap on the trading post, then doing it with anything that can potentially turn a profit is. And in that case, why has this "exploit" been in since launch and not been fixed?
I know I will no longer salvage any yellows for ectos until we get an official word, also as it stands now, ANet has a pretty big chunk of their playerbase afraid to play their game. Somehow, I don’t think that is desirable.
So wait I appear to have gotten into this late. People were crafting things with the super undervalue mats on the trading post (increasing their value to reasonable levels) to make crafted stuff they could salvage into ectos and make a profit.
I recall a dev post saying that the problem way back after release was money being generated from nowhere, and that trading post manipulation is fine because the money comes from other players.
This is 100% trading post manipulation, at least as far as I understand it. Ask your economist, prices should have stabilize to the point where it was no longer as profitable. Whats next? Ban folks that make money flipping items?
I make a profit by buying low and selling for 20% above what I bought for. Oop I’m exploiting, BAN ME! I bought a bunch of wintersday skins and am reselling them for a gold each hoping that the prices will increase after a few months, I’m exploiting, BAN ME!
I did not know of this particular method, and I was always one of the guys that tried to see the sense in the decisions you guys made, and tried to explain the possible reasoning to others.
I see no reasoning here, all I see is an overzealous banhammer, perhaps even a moneygrab hoping those players will buy another account. Those 200 players were not exploiting any more than any other player who plays the auction house. You have lost the faith of one of your loyal players, and from the size of this thread, I doubt I’m the only one.
It sounds like they used lick wounds. That’s basically what it does, and it is capable of outhealing quite a bit of damage if they are not defeated before they get the chance to use it.
Are you absolutely, positively certain the ranger’s pet was not anywhere near even after they went down? It should be noted that Lick wounds also rezzes the pet if it’s downed.
Lick wound’s big weakness is a finisher, which can’t currently be done in water.
My info might be outdated since I never really bothered to farm for specifically one mat, but I always heard the trolls and acticondus(sp) south of the claw of jormag fight in frostgorge dropped the blood. And I always ended up with lots of ancient bones walking around straits of devastation and malchor’s leap.
That might be a start til somebody with better info comes by.
Yea they aren’t cats, but they are feline enough for it to be a valid question.
Wiki claims they are carnivores, and I recall some source someplace indicating that they are specifically obligate carnivores. Like the big cats.
So cats or not, they could still potentially have issues with chocolate, as well as any number of other things chefs make for our consumption. If they didn’t they would not be carnivores.

Heres a thought, how about a checkmark that allowed you to remove the WvW requirements from monthlys. In trade for the whole month you don’t get any of the WvW bonuses. Sounds fair.
I’m honestly kind of bugged that these folks that refuse to participate in WvW get anything at all from our effort myself. Especially when they scoff at us for going into LA to try to drum up a little extra support.
If they want to complain, let them take WvW off their monthlies then. But keep them from being freeloaders and getting the ~10% buff to everything they do in trade.
Except charr also should not be able to manage large amounts of plant matter without throwing it all up, yet our charr manage that just fine too.
Probably just a disconnect between gameplay and lore. I’d love an actual official word on that, but it’s probably too minor a detail for us to hear ’word of god’ on whether charr manage chocolate well. ...Aren’t cats supposed to be lactose intolerant too?
The jumping puzzle is not required in any way. The rewards are just a little karma, which people who have a bunch of trouble with the puzzles could easily get elsewhere, a couple gifts, again easily gotten elsewhere, some snowflakes and the occasional oddball, none of this is unobtainable or particularly hard to get elsewhere. You also don’t need the jumping puzzle to get the achievement for the holiday.
Jumping puzzles are part of the GW2 experience, and I hope it continues to be. Some people can’t do the puzzles and I’m sorry for those people.
We could do two different difficulties of puzzles, one with a time limit and one without, but if we make the untimed ones have the same loot as the timed one, noone will do the timed one, if we give the timed one better loot folks will continue to complain that the JPs are too hard and that they should be able to get the full loot.
I had a humanities teacher pose something similar in class once. Parks have been getting pressured by some groups to make all their hikes, trails, and even mountain climbs wheelchair accessible. Some have had to do it. Not to bash on the handicapped, but doesn’t making all these things easily accessible to anyone ruin the point?
Nice work. I would just like to add that many of the good commanders like having ’eyes’ everywhere. Back when I first started in WvW I would PvE mobs sitting around supply camps and call out on /team or in the voice chat when I saw a group of enemies either attacking the camp or passing by.
Once a commander gave me half a gold for doing it for a few hours as a thanks. While that certainly isn’t the norm, just calling out enemy group locations on team when you spot them can help your server significantly, even if you aren’t interested in engaging. Even a single minute’s advance warning is a huge difference.
From my understanding, yea. It’s primarily to troll the victim, deleting chars is not exactly a hard or time intensive process.
P.S. Also if the hacker has a beef with the company and it’s a subscription based game deleting all the toon has a better chance of the player throwing in the towel and canceling their sub than just losing all their gear. Which hurts the company.
Just a minor annoyance from me.
The Arenanet guild is not GMs. They are just devs playing their game. Folks thinking they are GMs and bombarding them with questions and ban requests are probably why we rarely see the ANet tag anymore. There, got that out of my system.
...Carry on.
A single thief routinely kills every yak coming out of a camp. 4 pugs all in a voice chat system go to stop them. The thief stealths, hits one of the group a couple times and restealths.
The short times that the thief is visible all kinds of death goes their way, reducing the thief by 1/3 or 1/2 their HP for the 2 seconds they are visible every time. When the thief restealths, they group back up and lay down AoEs in a reasonable spread. But every time the thief reappears with full hp and a full second of free hits before he even renders again, and another 1/4th of a second for reactions and targeting.
Yes, this is a group of 4 pugs. But it’s a group of relatively organized pugs, all in voice chat. I’m not convinced a group of 4 guildies would do any better.
If a significant force of 8 or more shows up the thief just retreats and waits for the group to leave, then goes back to their guaranteed denial.
In what world should a particular build of a class be capable of easily killing all yaks coming out of a supply camp alone with 4 players standing on top of the yak defending it without having to die to do it?
Yes mesmers can port people past walls... if they manage to not be spotted before they do it, which never seems to happen... And then they have to have a large group helping them for it to mean anything. A single theif can deny an entire side of a map yaks, and be unkillable doing it. And the only skill requirement is learning a rotation for their skills to maximize their stealth time. Any ex-WoW player can do that in their sleep.
I agree that the rendering issue is contributing to this. And I agree that thief stealth needs nerfed until that rendering issue is solved, an imbalance due to broken mechanics is still an imbalance that can be corrected for if the mechanics issue can not be quickly solved directly.
Nobody, no matter what their class, and no matter what their skill level, should be able to take on four times their number, no matter their skill level. Skill should beat numbers in many situations. I don’t think thieves running long stealth builds are as skilled as they think they are, but even if they were, skill should only go so far. You could put a pro NFL player against a high school football team, and while the pro could be the best in the league, they are not going to beat the football team. It should not be this way here.
*Also, if you’re interested in gaming harassment, I strongly suggest this video. It gives great insight into this behavior, and also some really great ways to combat it.*
Clicky --> http://penny-arcade.com/patv/episode/harassment
A bit off topic but, hey that’s where those guys went, I used to watch them religiously when they were on The Escapist. Those guys know their kitten.
On JQBL earlier, we had a thief glitched inside. Why glitched? Because the garrison hadn’t been breached in about 20 hours. While it’s possible he could have kept himself stealthed for that long, let’s be real. He got in, he got both vistas, and he left. IDEK.
Stop glitching into places, SoS. The guild name was like… Bucket Buccaneers or something. LAME.
Now now, no reason to bring that up what, like 8 or 9 hours after it happened? Probably more. He was clearly just one guy getting map completion. Yes it ended up with us sweeping garrison for 20 minutes and wasting time, I was one of the people sweeping. But no reason to blame SoS for what was clearly an independent guy. Probably was a PvE-er getting map completion who doesn’t even contribute to WvW. We don’t wanna make the other servers think we can’t tell the difference.
In other news that big fight at bay in JQBL last night was epic. We managed to force you guys out. But well played everyone.
And here’s the current score
Arenanet doesn’t seem interested in banning people who cuss and swear now and then. It’s when you are cussing and swearing at a person when they have a problem with it.
I probably drop the F-bomb once a day in chat, as well as other ’colorful language’ before I realize it. I haven’t been banned once, or even warned. I think the big thing that is keeping me from getting a ban is that I keep the personal attacks and language out of arguments.
And it’s not like I don’t argue very often, I’m always disagreeing with some of our commanders. I just state and explain my reasoning. I don’t start saying kitten like "You are a kittening kitten quot;.
I’m pretty sure ANet has stated before that they are gamers too. They are NOT out to ban the stray cuss in conversation, they are after the personal attacks, and excessive use.
