Charr have difficulty with JPs too, just diffrent ones. While it does kinds kitten to have a big character blocking your view, not all of them are unsympathetic. I recall during the mad kings clocktower I would have my charr do the puzzle topless just because that big trenchcoat flapping around was probably ruining anybody’s ability to see jumps.

At least the winter one isn’t as time critical, you can always run it a little behind the rest of the folks. If it’s hard to see the next snowflake because a big race is standing on it, try aiming between the charr or norn’s legs, they have to be standing on something.

Surprising, my first character has a lower DPH, must be because my ranger plays more WvW. I figured my ranger would be lower since I had more actual experience playing before I started using her.

WvW culling suggestion: Detailless figures

I mean right now, enemy players appear as generic "invader" models for this very reason.

I’m pretty sure this isn’t the case, I took a screenshot when I ended up in a bad situation and looked through it. To see if I could see generic invader models.

Instead I see 2 warriors with 2 different armor sets, 2 asura with different hairstyles and coloration, the hammer warrior near the front has a backpack while the others do not as well as a different armor than the Charr near him... Some are wearing helmets, others are not...

Even if I managed to catch all the differences with such a small group that are possible, that is still a lot of unnecessary information that could just not be sent.

Hell, I wouldn’t be surprised if those individual players could identify themselves in the screenshot.

WvW culling suggestion: Detailless figures

Greiger.7092

I can’t really think of a title that quite describes what I’m talking about quite right.

Problem: The servers can’t send all the data needed to render all the members of a zerg all the time.

Proposed solution: When the server needs to send more data than it can send, Send only the alliance, location, and direction of a player, and have the client simply render a simple team color stylized humanoid silhouette until it gets more information.

-----
From what I understand much of the problem with the culling is that the servers can’t send all the needed information to all players quickly enough for the full detail renders. For a player to be rendered at this point the server needs to have sent us race, class, all armor, all weapons, boons, conditions, hairstyle, haircolor, skincolor, skin pattern, height, buildtype, eyecolor, all the facial feature variables, animations, location, heading... Basically every single character creation option has a numeric value that must be sent from the server when the game wants to see a player.

That’s a hell of a lot of data to get one player rendering. Might not be much with current high speed internet, but when a server needs to send all that to hundreds of players at the same time, it adds up which seems to be giving us the culling issue.

That’s why I propose an intermediate level between rendering fully and not rendering at all. I think if the servers sent the location and heading of a player first, which the client only renders a quickly painted looking simple humanoid figure for, and then sent the rest of the data when it gets the chance the culling issue would be greatly reduced if not removed completely.

Location and heading is only a fraction of the data that needs to be sent currently. I for one would much rather have 2 people fully rendered with an army of faceless figures behind them that slowly fills out, than 4 people fully rendered and an empty field behind them that slowly renders a portion of the army.

But in the last 3 days I’ve seen 2 exploits into briar and one extremely suspicious port into garrison where the mesmer portal chain for some golems happened to end with the golems on an inner cliff with some very surprised drivers and commanders. I want to know the proper place these reports are supposed to go.

Is there a reason I didn't get a Xmas card?

I was under the impression that they sent the cards out randomly. Even if they did prefer the streamers and youtubers a christmas card sounds like a reasonable thank you for all the free advertising. The cards are personally signed by the team, if everyone got one they would be spending more time signing cards than working on the game.

Why do you feel you should have gotten a card?

Apathetic bear is indifferent to your suffering.

To contribute to the thread I have never had any problems with it, if the pet is dead it rezzes it to save me, if not it just stops what it’s doing and rushes over.

If anything I think it’s overpowered underwater, I used lick wounds once I got downed in a 3v1 near the quaggans in WvW, and the lick wounds healing me for more than they could hit me for. I actually managed to self rez while being beaten on by 3 players.

Something must be wrong if so many people complain about it though.

I’m not a dev but I don’t think that’s a problem. That seems more a functionality of the mouse thing than something to really give an unfair advantage.

I think 3rd party programs is more of a catchall for programs specifically designed to mess with the game in unfair ways, or memory editors. While the mouse program would probably qualify as a technicality, I highly doubt that’s what they are after.

They are probably just using broad language to prevent any kind of loopholes.

Trade your gold for gems, then use the gems to buy the mini. I spent $10 on gems at launch and have been using gold to buy gem stuff ever since.

350 gems (the price for the plush griffon) is at the time of this post 6g 50s. And that sounds like about what I would think folks who paid money just to flip them for gold would charge in some other game as well.

Just pugging dungeons you can get about a gold a run. Thats 6 dungeon runs and maybe a bit of selling old crafting mats you don’t need to get that. A really dedicated player could get that in a day. A more reasonable one could probably get it in 3 or 4 days.

I felt that following a zerg around capping things got levels pretty fast. Fixing walls on a keep or tower during an extended siege got levels reasonably fast too from the defend the keep event. Though if you try that, you’ll want to take supply from camps instead of the keep so yer actually contributing and not just draining a keep and kittening folks off.

Trading post sell option: Match vendor+tax

Greiger.7092

I came up with the thought here https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/The-Failed-State-of-the-Economy/first#post1071976

What the idea is is that when an item a player is trying to sell on the trading post has either no current prices, or the prices are below vendor + 15% the "match lowest seller button" changes to "match vendor + Tax". I feel part of the reason some of these prices end up unprofitably low is dungeon runners with full inventory that don’t have the time to calculate the tax when they get rid of the stuff. This option would allow them to quickly trading post the stuff, while help curb the problem with items being sold unreasonably low.

Thoughts, complaints, kittens?

P.S. And yes, the option ONLY shows up when the item price is unreasonably low. I don’t want to give crazies the ability to quickly bottom out the price of a healthy item by lazily placing 200 of them up for vendor+tax when they are reasonably selling for 4 times that.

The Failed State of the Economy

Greiger.7092

I’m pretty sure a lot of people would be happier if ANet just canceled all those things below vendor, and put a warning when you sell something for less than 15% above vendor. Wasn’t the bug that allowed people to make listings below vendor fixed after the first week of launch? I’m sure those people don’t give a crap anymore.

Those under vendor prices are effectively the same as the items that don’t have a price yet. All the 1c crap does is confuse the newbies about what is normal so that they also sell things for as little as the game will allow.

Also, if an item does not have a current price on the TP or it is under the vendor + 15% why not change match lowest to match vendor + tax? I think part of the reason many of these people in dungeons sell so low is that they don’t have the time or patience to calculate the 15% tax. If there was a button to do it when there’s no reasonable price already, I’m sure it would kill this problem dead.

Cog confusion

in Wintersday

Posted by: Greiger.7092

Greiger.7092

My guess is that we got extra cogs just in case a player doesn’t have the time to do every run, so they don’t feel left out and could still make 2 toys.

With the holiday stuff ANet doesn’t seem to want folks to have to do everything 100% to fully enjoy the content which seems reasonable enough. The extra couple hundred cogs means you can still make 2 toys (if yer willing to buy some fluff or glue) even if you only did 3 of the tixx runs.

If you did get the extra you can just hold onto them til next year.

P.S. The physical chest day1 in LA and the mail cogs we got probably weren’t planned. But I hear some people were having trouble with that chest so they switched to the mail system. If you got the chest and the mail you just got lucky and got a little extra. Just because a lot of folks got extra cogs from a quick fix, doesn’t necessarily mean that the event wasn’t planned around people only making 2 toys.

Even if nothing is planned to happen there that’s 10 minutes that you need to keep 2 or 3 extra defenders there because of the kitten scout you can’t do anything about except tea bag.

Mage type classes can move mountains and cause huge amounts of destruction. A Warrior or Ranger are like those dynasty warriors heroes that can wipe out a thousand or so mooks in 15 minutes.

A mage can prepare for a battle and do massive amounts of damage to the army with flung spells, but I imagine lorewise a mage would get tired and need to rest sooner than the more physical guys. A warrior just picks up his sword and wanders around the battle field and calls it tuesday, and could do it practically all day.

Army vs Army I would imagine the physical guys would be more like a big sustain dps, mages would be more burst. A mage would do more over a short period of time, a warrior would do more over a longer period.

1v1 It probably depends on how long the mage has to prepare.

Corpse Spying

Yea I agree completely, it’s one thing to have a spy you can do something about, its another to have a corpse scouter who is obviously just sitting there to tell their team when the defenders needed to go help elsewhere when there is nothing that can be done about it except keep a large force there for 10 minutes.

Some people claim that it’s a legitimate tactic because everyone can do it and to QQ more. I say it’s immersion breaking foul play along the lines of catapults behind gates to make oil pots redundant, and flame rams not worth buying.

Just because everyone can do it doesn’t mean they should.

Keep track of damage points. Rez a player half their damage is credited to the rezzer for 30 seconds (including if the rezzed rezzes another, granting the origonal rezzer 1/4th the damage credit of the 3rd person.)

Buffs grant the person who applied the buff the diffrence in damage the buff caused in the case of damage increasers. (i.e A might buff causes a players damage to go from 800 to 1000 the person who applied the buff gets credit for 200 damage every time the buffed player attacks)

Grants the amount of damage prevented in the case of defensive buffs, and the amount healed with healing and regens.

Seems reasonable enough and I assumed it worked something like that until I found out only damage counts.

P.S. And for controls, successful stuns give twice your average 1 skill damage in credit(or the damage applied by the stun skill whichever is higher), successful interrupts give 3x.

There was an older online game, Phantasy Star Universe that did something that I figure would help in this situation.

Silhouette. This only ever happened with allies, as when I played there was no PvP whatsoever, but when there were more people in an area than the game could reliably render or the server could send data for it would only send location and heading. And the game client would place a glowy humanoid silhouette there, a running one if the data indicated they were moving, a standing one otherwise.

That system could work wonders here. Allow players the ability to see that there is a full zerg behind those few rendered people, even if the details are obscured. Once there is time the servers can send the rest of the important information as it currently does, replacing those silhouettes with actual renders when it can.

P.S. Hell it could even be stylized, PSU had a whole thing with glowy photons and lightsabers and stuff. We have an painting style, make them look like quickly painted single color detailess figures.

Many folks have been complaining about the change coming to fractal joining. How about we get a little inspection option for members of our party.

Right click on a player icon and you see the person’s character screen. If that is a problem, as folks could get a little elitist over it with ’perfect’ stat combinations, we could also only get the important information. What their fractal level is, how much agony resist they currently have, maybe how much magic find they are currently sporting instead of team friendly stats, that kind of information.

I want the changes to happen, I think it’s a great idea, but the folks complaining about noobs potentially ruining their runs aren’t entirely wrong. A newer player could enter a high level fractal with no resistance, either not knowing better, or simply hoping the others won’t notice so they get an easy carry. With the way it currently is we have no indication outside the players word. Some people’s word isn’t worth their weight in bellybutton lint.

Just as us lower level fractal-ers deserve to be able to find a group now and then, the higher level ones deserve to not be forced to carry one or two ignorant/dishonest people every run.

Nice to see toypocalypse dosn’t need all the dolyaks to live anymore. That stuff was hard for a casual little side game. Kiting a mob for 5 or 6 minutes in a dungeon is fine because that’s pretty much expected, but doing it to Toxx in a minigame so that the rest of the group could overbuild like mad and have a chance of all the yaks surviving was a bit much for a mini game.

Also nice to see the jumping puzzle fixed. A friend claimed it happened to him, and since he’s not the best at those kinds of timed puzzles if really irked him.

Horribad PvP build

Greiger.7092

Horribad at PvP? My pvp build IS spirits, and I run around WvW with them. They are terrible for dungeons not PvP. 2nd the extra health trait and follow trait can be taken together.

I am a sword, warhorn ranger, my spirits have 2x hp, follow me around, and activate their abilities on death. The sword’s dancing all over the place, combined with the spirits following me around, keeps the spirits moving and harder to focus down. The spirit’s abilities on death punish anybody that does manage it assuming they are in melee range, and since I’m a melee ranger they should be whether they want to be or not.

For a support build, I feel it does a great job in solo 1v1 and even the occasional 2v1. I was downright amazed how I was winning duels left and right on a build I thought would be worthless for it. You should see how pissed off folks get when they fight a vit-toughness ranger with decent healing and a nature spirit that rezzes them every time they get downed.

If a clicker like me can win pvp fights with a build, theres gotta be something to it.

Nature's Vengeance vs Spiritual Knowledge

in Ranger

Greiger.7092

I prefer the ability on death trait. I use a sword primarily with the follow trait. I can still reasonably support a zerg or party with 3 spirits, but I can still reasonably 1v1 as well. My biggest weakness is me losing my spirits before my cooldown is back. With the ability on death trait my enemy is at least punished for killing them, since I’m always in their face as a sword warhorn.

Also nice with the nature renewal spirit. Find yourself in an extended 1v1 (vit-toughness ranger vs. vit-toughness guardian yay 5 minute long duels!) or in a bad place against a big group, the nature spirit can either have it’s duration run out or get nuked, potentially giving you a free unexpected rez, or a free all condition removal, both are nice things have.

The skill on death trait also increases the range of their active skills too, which again is a godsend on the rez spirit.

Yea you can stow your pet but it automatically comes out and won’t go back in combat, even if it was just one hit and you outdistancing the mob your pet will come out and either attack the mob, which extends how long you are in combat, as your pet can be continuing to attack long after the mob would have otherwise tethered, or if in passive, follow you around at it’s 10 or 15 feet distance, pulling other mobs.

It is a bit of a problem, and stowing the pet helps immensely, but it’s still a bit harder to move around mob dense zones thanks to the pet.

I’m not one of those rangers that wants the option to remove a pet entirely for some stat benefit (if you want that play a warrior already), but we really should have a way to either force the pet to follow closer, or just force the pet to not show up, even when we get attacked.

My guess is that the game calculates the parabola at a universal height for all size characters, but renders the arc appropriate to the size and assumes the difference will be hard to notice.

My charr ranger often gets obstructed messages where it looks like the projectile should have just barely made it. Which leads me to believe the rendered parabola and the actual calculated one have different values for "c" in the function. I’ve been crit for 9.7k Kill Shot with 3,200 armor.

Also, WvW is mass chaos. You don’t have a radar showing the dude behind twenty others is about to nuke you for half your HP.

It’s no different than people saying "lol dodge" when you’re being root / slow spammed and two warriors jump you and haste hundred blades.

Sure like I said in my post up there in a zerg vs zerg it is a nuke for half your hp. You’d have to be really perceptive to spot a warrior aiming a kill shot at you there.

But guess what? You aren’t dead when yer downed, your zerg can get you up in about the time it took for that warrior to take the shot unless A, you are too far forward for your friends to help, in which case you would probably be dead anyway, or B, Your friends are retreating and you were behind the rest, which again, yer dead anyway.

Kill shot is a one trick pony, from using it in BWE there are more situations where it would be downright stupid to use it, then there are opportunities. Other adrenaline attacks don’t really have times where using them is actively detrimental like kill shot does.

Even in a zerg vs zerg which I feel is the ideal situation to use it, unless you pick off people at just the right part of the zerg, they will just get right back up like nothing happened. You also need to pray that the zerg isn’t competently led, and there are no guardians dropping reflect walls in front of the group, which would again make kill shot a stupid skill to use.

I stopped using the rifle on my warrior because killshot is just too kitten situational to be useful, outside of the rare one in a million perfect shot at the perfect time.

I made a quiver on my warrior to give to my ranger, since my warrior had the skill points for the 240 philosopher stones while my ranger did not. Had no issues.

I think the majority are soulbound on use (you can transfer it to another character as long as only the one you want to have it uses or equips it) but it would probably be best to look up the item on the wiki or gw2db to check it’s bind status to be certain.

I have a warrior but I don’t use him anymore, and even then I only used a rifle on him in BWE.

Kill shot requires 3 bars of adrenaline to do that kind of damage, 2 seconds to cast and its one of the few player skills that have that big "I’m charging something that will screw you up auras" you see in pve all the time.

In 1v1s or small group vs small group such as sPvP the shot is next to useless. Anybody with half a brain can dodge it or worse yet, reflect it. In a zerg vs zerg the shot is more useful, but in that case a single 15k spike against a group of 20 isn’t all that significant. Sucks for the one that gets hit, but it won’t down you unless you’ve taken other damage, and even if it does, you have 19 guys around you that can get you up in the time it took the warrior to charge the shot.

Warriors specialty is big damage, they don’t have a pet running around, half a dozen minions, exploding clones, sentry guns, the ability to stealth almost at will, or a million defensive abilities and reflects. They just have them. Kill shot is the warrior skill that specializes in big damage. Most of the other adrenaline skills have some secondary effect, kill shot does not.

I agree wholeheartedly. Game has problems, but not an overly large amount, and even those problems that are there are not as bad as all the hyperbole would make it seem.

Rangers are complaining about how kitten their class was, but earlier today I was on my spirit ranger in Sea of Sorrows borderlands, killing yaks and beating off 2v1s so I don’t see the issue they complain about there. Bots are just about gone, and ascended gear is what, a .8% stat increase?

Satisfied customer. Well worth the CE price.

What does 'kitten' mean?

I can just imagine some april fools day or something the forum servers will replace every occurrence of the word kitten (filtered or otherwise) with a random image from a database of over 100 pictures of cute kittens.

After all, this is the internet, it’s a series of tubes full of cats, finding 100 pictures of cute kittens could probably be done over a smoke break.

P.S. And then next year replace every ’kitten’ with a charr.
