Remove the cap points.
Add 1-2 extra cannons.
Add stormy weather.
Let us swing on ropes between the ships.

Bring the map back as an all-out mayhem 10v10 or 12v12 deathmatch. First team to 100 kills wins.

Is matchmaking always this bad?

in PvP

Harrier.9380

Clarification: Professions have their own MMR tracked, but it is not currently used in matchmaking because players can switch professions after a match is made.

So a loophole is disabling a powerful tool to generate good matches?

I’d, uh, kinda close the loophole…

The problem with doing this is that players can no longer switch to a more effective profession once they see the enemy team’s roster which happens quite often.

If I remember right, it was used in matchmaking for a while? I remember taking my Engi into ranked for the first time, shortly after it was introduced. At the time my Necro was matched with guys like Denshee or Helseth. My Engi got matched with teams capping home point with 4 people. You can probably guess how enjoyable those games were.

Been a while since I played, so not sure how matchmaking works atm, but here’s an idea: How about calculating matchmaking MMR based on class ratings? Using values for every profession with weight of each MMR adjusted based on how often class is used + extra weight for the profession player is queing as.

Example: your Ele main is in top 100. You’re taking Necro into ranked for the first time. Matchmaking doesn’t put you against other top100 players right away, but you don’t start in abysmal tier either, thanks to having MMR boost from your Ele.

No.

1. Last time I was online (aka couple months ago), ~70%+ of best PvP players in EU were on Desolation. You’re basically suggesting forcing all of them to transfer off randomly to even hope for a decent match-up.
2. Mists are using megaserver anyway.
3. Drama is a part of every game with PvP (and many without too), you need to either learn to deal with it or find the ignore button.

Fractured Space is in alpha, but it’s looking really solid. Also, the pricetag will leave with tons of cash leftover for other stuff.

Downloaded it during free weekend, got to keep it. Didn’t play much so far, but looked pretty decent.

PS. You’re not paying 50 bucks for only a new pvp mode and a class….

Correct. I’m definitely not paying 50 bucks for that.

Actually, I agree. I don’t give a flying kitten about new PvE event grind, so basically all I get out of €45 price is Revenant + elite specs.

I guess the cash I set aside for HoT is going into steam sale now.
Any recommendations what to get?

You know what 3 years with this game taught me?
1. Don’t trust any hype Anet is trying to spin.
2. Until proven otherwise, expect new content to be mindless grind for some cosmetics.

Honestly, as a PvP player first I couldn’t care less for how big new zones are, gliding, masteries etc etc. Basically what I’m getting for 45€ is new class + elite specializations (since Stronghold is supposed to be included in vanilla). And I don’t find those anywhere near worth that price tag.

If I could get revenant + elite specs + general pvp stuff for 15-20€ I’ld totally pay that the second it became avaliable. 45€? Hell no.

This I can understand. You’re not interested in the PvE, and since expansions are largely based on PvE, it’s of no interest to you. However, part of the expansion is a new profession and specializations, which would affect PvP. Yeah, that can be frustrating. I can only hope on your behalf that they maybe add something to the gem store that maybe lets you buy the Revenant, though I doubt that they’d ever make the specializations a separate purchase.

Thanks, that’s unexpected.

It’s not that I dislike PvE as an idea, just don’t like how Anet makes it all about endless grind for x or y skin. There are way better games out there when it comes to both PvE and storytelling.

Specializations are the thing I’m most interested in. Revenant I can probably do without, not too interested in the class from what I’ve seen of it so far.

Holy crap, so many freaking whiners.
ArenaNet: “Okay, so the expansion is going to basically add at least double the amount of content that’s currently in the game. New maps that are super massive, each of these maps will also be about three times larger than they appear thanks to the 3 distinct biomes, it’s like you’re playing a completely different map depending on your altitude. Finally revealing guild halls, and we went all out for it. The whole shebang, decorations, your own map, gliding around, Guild vs Guild, everything worth adding is there. Not to mention a lot of the game-changing content is game-wide, so those who don’t get the expansion still get the new mastery system and specializations. We specifically hired new designers specifically for the sake of challenging group content since we haven’t been able to successfully create it in-house. All of this content and more has required tons of resources and effort. How much should we charge? Well, other MMOs charge $50 + sub fees, and you are basically buying a new game experience, so we’ll just charge the $50 (no sub fees). And as a nice little bonus, the expansion comes with the core game for those who don’t own Guild Wars 2. This should help boost the player base and prevent awkward situations where someone may accidentally just buy the expansion but not own the core game to play it. It would also prevent people from getting angry about having to buy both the game AND expansion, which would cost significantly more. Alright, I think that’s about a wrap. No one likes spending money, but I think we’ve shown that it’ll definitely be worth it.”

So quit your QQ’ing. The price is fine, though I do wish they would include an extra character slot with the base pack. It doesn’t necessarily affect me since I plan on getting the $100 pack anyways. But that slot should be allowed for existing (and new) players to try out and enjoy as many professions as possible, especially the new one.

The continued content will be handsomely paid for by gem purchases for outfits, minis, magic carpets and such.

Not anymore. You purchase it once, then grind for gold to buy a token in game to continue your subscription. It’s really no different than grinding for gold in GW2, then converting it to gems. It’s actually starting to sound a lot cheaper now, where you will get the core game plus 5 expansions worth of content.

Ohh like WS did to as well thanks for the information.

Would probably require much more grind though. Getting a month of playtime in WS took like 3-4 hours.

Irrelevant. Ride the Lightning was nerfed for being used without a target for mobility.

It is relevant, because you can still get lower cd if you hit something. Which would’ve been impossible with Rush.

Seriously though, whenever I fight gs war and see them swinging 100b in the air hitting nothing, I feel pretty bad for poor guy.

This is coming from the warrior class, who has a better version of a longbow for conquest or any teamfight than the ranger longbow will ever be.

More damage for melee

in PvP

The issue isn’t that melee needs more damage. The issue is that range needs less. It is crazy that a safer ranged spec can do more damage that a higher risk melee spec. It makes no sense.

This. Right here.
Rapid Fire does pretty much the same damage as 100b while having almost 12x the range. It’s also more reliable and doesn’t make you a sitting duck.
I think more ranged skills should work like Necro’s Lifeblast – doing less damage at max range than up close, while also rewarding good positioning (with piercing trait), rather than sitting on a ledge and spamming it mindlessly.

Another thing I forgot to mention was Taunt, which will be another condition to be coming out of the woodwork. The same arguments apply to taunt like they did slow, we don’t know how prevalent or how many professions have it, but if it is out there, it can ruin a disengage outright. We will have to see..

Taunt is not a condition. Seriously, why do people keep saying this? It’s a control effect like Stun or Daze. Condition duration will have zero effect on it and Runes of the Trooper cannot help you out of it.

Whoops!

Yep, just checked the wiki, I made a large error and I apologize.

I still believe Taunt will have an effect though, in fact if it runs in the same vein as Stuns and Dazes, with Stability as it is now it could be more impactful as I were under the impression Resistance would resist it but it will NOT.

That’s an interesting point – how will Taunt interact with stability stacks. Will it take off one stack, like any other CC (that’s what I’m expecting to see), or rather remain for the full duration and remove 1 stack every tick.

As for the Taunt accesibility – remember there was no info on weapon skills / utility changes for base classes so far. We might see it added here and there when they show what skills were modified on Monday.

In a pvp environment, it’s very rare to even hit the 25 bleed stack cap, so I don’t see the change affecting pvp that much, maybe burning and poison stacking intensity with poison fields from thief shortbow and engi grenades.

I can easily stack 25 bleeds on condi warr,i dont even wanna see what 3 – 4 people are able to do when they all run condi spec, and they will..all run condi spec when this patch hits.

And the Shoutbow Warrior shrugs it all off together.

Or Revenant sends it all back. That will be fun to see.

I found the mode fun as it was (excluding 3-4min lordrush games). Can’t say how much of it was genuine enjoyement of the mode and how much was just being glad to play something that’s not conquest, but I believie that with some tweaks (like the ones proposed in actual SH feedback thread, which you probably didn’t even open) it can be quite enjoyable.

It’s not intended to be a MOBA, and I doubt anyone wants it to be one, since you know, actual MOBAS are better at being MOBAS.

@Shala Ok, I’ll do away with quoting since posts are getting pretty long.

Physics time! Chill lowers movement speed by 66%. Speed is distance traveled in a certain time (or v=d/t). Therefore distance is speed multiplied by time (d=v*t). Therefore, if the speed is lower and time stays the same (time being animation), distance travelled is also lower.

Asking why chill doesn’t counter life blasts is like asking why projectile reflection doesn’t counter eviscerate. They’re 2 completely diffirent things, countered by something completely diffirent. And chill does affect Mesmer F1. It affects the cooldown. If you chill the clones, they’ll move slower, giving you more time to destroy them (one of reasons mesmers try to spawn and shatter them in melee range).

Lol you are admitting it by yourself! you are not using chill/cripple to counter Rush warrior or movement skills!! Then why it should randomly counter it?

I have completely no clue what you’re trying to say here. Or what exactly does it have to do with my post. Moving on.

Yeah, I’ve failed quite a lot of Eviscerates due to chill/cripple. You what I’ve learned from it? Don’t try to Eviscerate when you’re chilled! Now, if a Necro places a chill mark in my path, all the more credit to him for counterplaying.

Really 2.8k games with warrior? and you never failed any movement skills cuz of these 2 condi? Are you sure you hadnt play 2.8k games with shoutboow????

Also i am happy that warrior wont be forced to chose dogged march only to avoid those movements skills to fail, this is really a good news to build diversity that comunity was asking for!

Also people is not seeing the opposite effect of this patch, swiftness will not effect movements skills too, means warrior roamer wont be able to easy escape from fights!

I’m pretty sure I haven’t played a single game on shoutbow. Probably less than 20 on hambow.

I kind of agree on the dogged march point though. I would like for builds to be actually viable without defense tree, but it does way too much to just skip it atm.

Really i never seen a reason for my warrior skill to be so much easy countered by these conditions, they already have worst easy to read animation of the game, if you dont dodge them or block or do something, why they should fail only because i am crippled??

’don’t dodge or block or do something’ – pretty sure putting on chill/cripple so the skill won’t make it to target counts as doing something.

Cripple and chill were not designed to interrupt movements skills or cause them to fail, they already have their main effects, they dont need a side effect that will just only hurts classes based on movements.
I mean is Necro somehow touched by these side effects like warrior? NO
Actualy cripple is spammed by so much attacks, and this is high damaging the only class that has no teleports and has to run on melee range to be effective and has to rely on movements.

If they were not designed to limit movement skill distance, they wouldn’t have limited movement distance for the past 3 years.
No, Necros are not affected by these. They zero movement skills anyway, so how can they be?

For context, before I get accused of warrior hate and whatnot – i got 2.8k games on warrior alone and I’m actually quite sad to see stuff like chilled whirlwind go. I’m just against dumbing down the combat, which devs do bit by bit every year. I still want my reverse bladetrail back.

try 6k warri matches…disciple

Doesn’t seem like that did much good for your connection to reality.
Or perception of balance in this game. Or anything really.
