December 10 Patch - Our Constructive Feedback

in PvP

Harrier.9380

The Good
- Rewards – Finally some use for all the stashed glory. Thanks to giftbox money I was able to pay my way back to EU servers.
- Thief Sword #2 change. – Having instant ‘get me out of trouble’ panic button with no cooldown is terrible design, glad it’s gone.
- Defiant Stance – This one is more of WvW ‘good’ than PvP one, but still wanted to mention it. Well designed skill which can be either crazy powerful if used right (30k+ heal in 3 seconds) or completely wasted. I like that I have to actually pay attention how I use the heal, instead of completely forgetting keybind for it like with Healing Signet.
- Balance Preview – We’ve been asking for something like this pretty much since launch. I can’t express how much better knowing the changes 1-2 months ahead is than learning them after patching the client.

The Bad
- Balance Philosophy – During second half of 2013 we’ve seen meta shift towards low risk – high reward builds. Most of the top builds are WAY too powerful for how easy they are to play (skill floor nearly non-existent), in addition to being simply BORING to play. (I asked friends to send me to the nearest mental institution should I ever say that spamming 3 on S/D Thief or using Healing Signet on Warrior is fun.) Build’s power should be proportional to difficulty of playing it. Having 70% of gameplay consist of passives and RNG is NOT FUN.
- Signet of Ether – As the above. We need less passives, not more.

The Missing
- Healing Signet – I can’t believe it wasn’t nerfed yet. This is the biggest problem with Warriors and the reason I’ve dropped this class as my PvP main. Also Warrior in general. IMO it was much better a year ago, when it was the weakest class in PvP. When you actually needed skill to be somewhat effective with it and only couple of us were crazy enough to bring it into tournaments. Nowadays you can roll your face across the keyboard or let your cat walk on it and no one will notice any diffirence.
- Bringing the BanHammer to exploiters – I really hoped that with reward changes and ability to change glory into gold, Anet would punish people who exploited their way to high ranks and farmed ungodly amounts of glory using bugged Birthday Booster. One decisive action, temporary bans and removal of all exploited ranks/glory would make people think twice in the future. Current passive stance says ‘exploit all you want, we don’t care, ain’t no one got time for punishing you’ and only encourages using exploits while they last. And so PvP is full of r50’s whose only experience is hours upon hours of jumping off Skyhammer.
- Build Templates – Would be cool to finally have them.

What Yasha said. At this time I think it’s most important to prove player’s feedback is not ignored and it yelds some actual results. If you won’t show you actually act upon suggestions, future threads are quite likely to turn into troll/grief fests. So:

1. Set a time period (two-three weeks would be optimal) after which you’ll brief players on the results of your internal discussion and direction you’ll be taking with future developement.
2. More dev posts are always welcome, even more so if they come from guys on decision-making level.
3. Summaries every couple pages sound good.

I realize your policy is not to disclose stuff before it’s ready, but I think it’s better to bring community into discussion at earlier stage than having to rework it afterwards since people hate it (like paid tournaments, QP farming and leaderboards, lack of solo q because matchmaking was supposed to be just fine for both solo and team players… just to name a few).

Stop UI from interfering with AoE targeting.

Harrier.9380

Can’t say how many times I threw AoE at my feet or failed a blink just because my mouse pointer touched UI’s ‘hitbox’ (not even actual UI) miliseconds before I released button to cast it.

Would be great if you could stop the UI from interfering with using AoE spells. Perhaps make it click-through / invisible to mouse pointer while AoE targeting is active?

(And no, I can’t make my UI smaller, it’s already set to smallest size)

Unkillable Warrior

Full healing power, life stacks, healing signet, adrenal health, banner regen, dolyak runes, mango pie, done.

Almost unkillable 1v1, 2v1 should already be possible.
Bring some long-lasting poison and proper damage (ranger spamming 1 doesn’t count as damage).
No stunbreakers, no stability, no condi cleanse, so CC and heavy condi damage would be quite effective.

Unload the burst as soon as poison gets in, then chain CC to stop her from running towards the guards to block and heal up.

If you can, push/pull her out of banner range and strip the regen, it’ll make the job much easier.

I’ve never been on those servers, although I know a couple from there, I’ve been told that all 3 servers are pretty much lag battles and day long ques how true is this?

All lies. RARELY are there any skill lag unless all three servers are fighting with map zergs. Also the queues are not as bad as everyone thinks. If you want a recommendation, Jade Quarry would be best.

What he said. We recently transferred to NA and I’ve got to say skill lag is almost non-existent, compared to what we experienced in EU. Que times depend on timezone you play in, but neither me nor my guildies had any serious trouble with it, and many of us play WvW during all timezones, not just EU prime time. There’s pretty much 24/7 action in t1.

As for server, gotta say BG community is very friendly and welcoming bunch

Don’t understand why any would enjoy the lag fights like last night in EU time.
But then i realized u where EU so you are used to this BS.

3 organised guild vs IRON and pugs, pretty pathetic tbh, specially disappointed in HB being in there. i thought better of them.

and hashtags is so 2011. guess EU is behind on that aswell.

Keep your propaganda rolling coin some might actually believe in you.

Actually it is quite refreshing. Compared to 3-way fights against Vizunah and SFR, lag here is pretty much non-existent.

Please make up your mind, either we’re a blob or 3 organised guilds.

Speaking of which, I thought [ONE], [FEAR], [RISE], [AFTL] were organised guilds. They seemed to act on their own at least. In their shoes, I’ld find it pretty offensive to be dismissed as ‘just pugs following [IRON]’.

Leagues are an excuse by ANet to sit on their butt and do nothing with the WvW game mode. Think about it, they stated that no changes will come to WvW while leagues are going on in an effort to keep them “fair”. It’s just an excuse they can point to when people ask why nothing is changing in WvW.

Same as PAX tournament being excuse for lack of balance changes.

Hey all,

We wanted to update you to let you know that everyone who purchase Elonian Wine at the unintentionally-high (bugged) price will receive a refund of the difference in the next day or two. You do not need to submit or update a support ticket. The team researched every Elonian Wine purchase in the correct timeframe and the coins that make up the difference between the intended and bugged price (depending on how many you purchased, of course) will be sent to you via the in-game mail system.

Enjoy! (And thanks for your patience while we made this right.)

If things keep going as they do now, staying in the silver league will be a success. As long as Anet keeps throwing in more and more PvE stuff, Desolation will prefer doing it over WvW. And it’ll keep going down until it’s matched against Vabbi.

I like the people I met in sPvP… and that’s about it, at least in its current state…

The meta is boring, most viable builds are the ones with lowest skill cap, conquest is getting boring after playing over 5k games…

Well, I enjoy what you can do with custom arenas. Couple days ago we had whole guild build as close to our WvW builds as possible and go into crazy 10v10 deathmatch on Foefire mid. Most fun I’ve had in sPvP since early days of paid tournaments.

An option to disable "orb" buff on myself?

in WvW

Posted by: Harrier.9380

Harrier.9380

Please, stop bringing up sPvP if you have no idea what you’re talking about.
It’s FAR from balanced, and in it’s current state individual player skill barely matters.
Also, as said above:
- Maps are too small even for 8v8.
- Map layout doesn’t allow for proper large-scale fights (the only exception being Foefire mid)
- Build crafting possibilities are pathetic due to all stats being in one amulet.

Harrier.9380

I’m getting the feeling I’ve seen it all before. Developers completely ignoring the community feedback and going on with their own thing. It was right here, in GW2, right around the time sPvP lobby went from having dozens of overflows to being nearly empty. I’ll use it as an example here, since I’ve been there and I’ve experienced it all.

PvP team due to stubborness, ignoring feedback and being seriously understaffed lost hundreds of players. Personally I knew over 20 high level teams which quit the game for good, including my own. Since then they have learned they lesson and realized they NEED to listen to and act on player feedback. Number of players in sPvP is slowly going up, but I doubt it’s anywhere close to the state before the exodus yet.

- Players said the paid tournaments were bad idea from the start. In spite of the feedback they were added, only to be removed later on.
- Players said that mixing solo and team queue was terrible idea from the moment it was announced. In spite of the feedback it was done, only to have solo queue added later anyway.
- Players said since day one that having only one mode for sPvP was bad, and were completely ignored, with excuse of ‘we want a single, good game mode’. (This is a case for a whole another text wall). Now, after a year we hear new modes are actually being tested internally.

I’m just wondering… Wouldn’t it be easier to just once actually listen to your community’s feedback BEFORE you waste your valuable time and resources on something that was NEVER asked for, and actively opposed by the players?

And yes, I say ‘community’ because it’s not just couple guys hanging around the windmill that are opposing this. Take a look at http://gw2gvg.com/leaderboard.php?r=eu . Guilds registered there from Desolation alone are: [TLA], [TEQ], [FG], [INVI], [EXG], [CTRL], [Unit], [Coin]. That’s over half of our main WvW guilds, and I’m pretty sure it’s similar on other servers. That’s the amount of players you’re choosing to ignore, refusing to listen to. You can’t say we’re not contributing for our server. We spend 2-3 hours a week on GvG. The rest of our playtime is spent in the field, working our kitten off to help the server. It’s those GvG guilds which are called for help in difficult situations, to fight against the odds and stand victorious.

Aside from a few forum warriors here and there, I know for a fact most of WvW community actually respects GvG guilds, to the point when couple guilds from opposing servers can stand guard around GvG area to prevent interruptions – last Deso/SFR/Vizu matchup for example.

If you don’t want to / are not capable of giving us an option to disable the buff on ourselves, can you at least make it into something that’s not +150 to all stats? I’m sure there are countless possibilities you could think of which would provide servers with advantage, but not ruin the combat, the best part of GW2.

Faster upgrades, faster dolyaks, stronger guard npcs, increased supply capacity, reduced siege supply cost, boosts to karma/exp/wxp/mf, no armor damage, just to name a few. I’ld prefer any of those over flat +150 stats buff. Possibilites are endless.

Hell, we’re not asking for you to scrap the new mechanics. We’re not asking for you to completely alter your vision of WvW. All we ask for is to let us have those 2-3 hours a week when we can do what we enjoy the most in your beautiful game. Please, don’t ruin it for us.

Interesting. So TM is not really difficult but just time consuming?

If you play Cat Mario or IWTBTG you will understand that those games are half trial-and-error, and half precision platforming. Even when you know where all the traps are the routs are still difficult. There are a few sections that give me Ninja Gaiden/Ghosts’N’Goblins flashbacks. We have a particular enemy that appears from time to time in TM that is reminiscent of the infamous Red Arremer. http://youtu.be/IQ2kMK_4kHI?t=3m58s

Except that ours is completely invincible. So yeah, there will be plenty of places where you’ll know exactly where to go and what to do, and you’ll still be slamming your face on the keyboard after your 30th try.

And if that’s not enough to sell you on the idea that TM will be difficult, I’ll just leave you with this equation: Sliding Ice Platforms + Instant Kill Spikes = ?

Challenge Accepted.

Most r40-50+ players (including me) think exactly opposite to Rissou and Nuka Cola. We consider smacking mobs in PvE all day long mind-numbingly boring. I only go there to get some achievement points for next chest every now and then or when I want some new skin and need to farm gold for it.

Some of us do WvW sometimes tho (hell, my teammate has ~150k WvW kills).

Personally I just have much more fun fighting actual thinking players than a bunch of C++ code. Rank and gear that comes with it is just a side benefit.
Usually I do a glory farm push at x9 ranks, just to get those sweet new armors faster.

Yup, I’m sure. Happened couple times in 1v1s vs classes without access to stability, like spirit ranger using sword #3 evade.

Weird evades when stunning (possibly bug?)

I’ve noticed it a couple times already. Sometimes when I try to land a stun on someone and they evade miliseconds after, they take damage from the skill, but are not stunned. Instead ‘Evade’ message shows up. Usually happens with Skull Crack.

It’s weird. If they take damage, why don’t they eat stun too? Or if they evade stun, why not evade damage too?

Anyone noticed this?
Are stuns applied AFTER the damage? If so, why?

MiniMap changes with Aug.6th patch?

I’ld love option to re-bind map ping key.
Having my dodge on Shift makes it annoying, as I have to waste a dodge every time I ping :P
