Main issue people have about SH is too much npc killing and not enough actual PvP combat.
You’re suggesting limiting the player combat even further and forcing mob farm.

Finally a post with some thought behind it. Seems those are rarer than precursor drops on these forums.

One issue is, movement skills are not equal in diffirent game modes. Judge’s Intervention might be a bit meh when doing world completion (for ex. when you don’t want to go into combat), but it’s amazing in pvp, since it’s pretty much a wallhack.
Same with staff blink on mesmer – it’s too short to be of much use in pve, but in pvp it opens up tons of shortcuts.

This just reinforces the point that more skills should get pvp/pve split.

I mostly agree when it comes to necro. Wurm dies from a sneeze with air/fire procc, I always kill it whenever I see one, rarely having the stop moving for it. Death’s Charge… it’s a step in the right direction, but 600 units can be covered in about the same time by running with swiftness.
Spectral Walk should stay as it is though. Necro shouldn’t really be blinking around.

let us revive dead npcs with supply
—- once a team’s npcs are dead they are forced to dedicate more and more resources to keeping enemies out which makes it easier for the other team to stay on the offense

-Victory or Death!
—-PLEASE end the game with this. At 10 minutes the lords start their march and all living npcs joim them. Matches that ended like this in GW1 were super intense! It also rewards teams who managed to keep npcs alive.

Soo… where exactly is the reward for keeping npcs alive if you can revive them with supply?

if anything, they should make the map a bit longer/larger so it takes them longer to run back, so respawned players can either run back or go to another/closer objective.

Then you’ld have as much extra distance to run to their lord. Would be even more impossible to counterattack after wiping enemy team in your lord room. Bad idea.

Honestly, all mobas have increasing respawn times as the match goes on, players there seem fine with it.

Seriously? Then what’s the problem? Just break their stability and move them.

See, many clueless people posting their “accurate solution” without actually playing the game. That’s why many QQ threads are really hard to take it seriously.

Plague Form and similar other Elites pulses 3 stacks of stability per 3 seconds in 20 seconds. You have to remove the stability in 3 seconds, meaning 4 interrupts in 3 seconds or 1 remove and 1 interrupt to do so. (1 remove and 1 interrupt is a luck base because you can be unlucky enough to remove it at the last second of interval, wasting your boon removal at the process)

Main problem is even after interrupting them, they can just start the channel again with brand new stability, as long as elite is active. That’s why I see Well of Corruption as the only counter right now – you can turn their stab into fear 2-3 times, possibly buying yourself enough time for elite to end.

My problem isn’t really with the elites – they always needed this reapplying stability and it was definitely a change for the better. There just needs to be more than 1 skill which can counter them.

You know, this likely won’t be an issue once the Stability changes go in. It really is a bit pointless to be testing balance when major gameplay changes haven’t made it in yet.

So, I’ve played 20 or so games on the new map… At first I thought “So that’s the new ‘challenging PvE content’, huh?”, but eventually changed my mind. I haven’t had this much fun in pvp in ages. Contrary to what many people complain about, I’ve had much more timeout games than 3min ones. Once people start noticing there’s a treb on the map, those should become a rarity.

Bunch of random thoughts:
- Players deal too much damage to guards. At the start you can easily spend your supply, rush the gate and kill off guards, even with someone defending, way before your npcs get there.
- Guards should focus npcs rather than players. You can just tickle them and they’ll completely forget about doorbreakers bombing the gate.
- Due to the above two, archers hardly see any use. Having to use archers to kill guards reasonably quick would probably be more interesting, as you’ld have to alternate between them and doorbreakers, rather than simply summoning a skritt army.
- Rampage / Rampage as One / Plague Form – extremely hard to deal with when they’re channeling heroes. So far only managed to reliably deny them free channel on Necro with Well of Corruption.
- Some proper ingame tutorial (in the form of cutscene in HotM or something) would be useful. It seems no one actually reads the popup one.

I still have some reservations about this mode, but after couple thousand conquest games it’s really fun to play something new. It will probably be a bit easier to watch as well, once shoutcasters start understanding just what the hell is going on.

  • Automated tournaments with divisions <— do gem revards.
Yes – That is if we can buy gems (tickets) for in game tournaments rather than having a third party set Tournaments up. ESL is a big esports site but they’re only really needed for sponsorship and advertisement purposes. I rather receive cash prizes rather than lame gem rewards. Remember, they don’t want to give away Gems because the Store is how they make most of their monies.

There used to be Paid Tournaments that required tickets and gave gems as reward. Probably my favourite period of gw2 pvp. Those didn’t really work out though, as only a few teams ever made it past the first round. Everyone else was forced to farm Free Tourneys for tickets.
Having tons of gems was cool, facing same guys all day – a bit boring.

Oh, I had no idea. Could you buy tickets in game or was this strictly outside the game?

It was all ingame. There were two types of tournamets – Free and Paid. Both required 8 teams (so quite long q’s). For Paids you also had to join as full 5man premade. 1st-2nd place in Free gave you tickets to enter Paid. 1st-2nd place in Paid gave gems + some tickets back. They were avaliable for gems, but barely anyone bought them, choosing to farm Free instead.
Facing same team 10 tourneys in a row in Paid in 2nd-3rd round was really common.

@Conaywea See the problem with this game is that any build which is difficult/fun to play is very weak. If you’ve made a build which allows you to eat, watch a tv show, play some guitar or paint the garage while you’re playing it, you can be pretty sure it’s among the most powerful builds in this game. If, on the other hand, it requires a perfect focus, spot-on combo executions and general flawless play, it’s guaranteed to be medicore at best. Seems main balance prority over last year was to substitute player skill with passive traits and conditions.

As for builds, running this myself atm, quite fun. In current meta feels kinda like playing Dark Souls with doubled difficulty:

Harrier.9380

I think 30 HPS is a good starting point. I wouldn’t mind slightly bigger nerf to heal sig, but if stuff like Adrenal Health or Cleansing Ire is also shaved off a bit, it might be actually decently balanced.

I hope this change will be PvP-only though. Healing Signet is not really a problem in PvE and WvW.

@OP – write up comparing HPS between diffirent classes’ heals is completely useless, as all classes have their unique tools. Shelter is nearly impossible to interrupt and blocks all damage during the cast, which is often more important than heal itself. Withdraw on Thief is very similar with it’s evade, but also creates distance. Ranger can leap through Healing Spring and use Drake to blast it to double the heal. Also removes conditions. Not to mention elite spirit which pretty much gives whole party Healing Signet+Adrenal Health, clears condis and can res. Apples and oranges.

in Profession Balance

Harrier.9380

I know it’s kinda rare in PvP, since there are barely any Eles left there, and even less of them use staff, but happens now and then still. It is an issue in WvW though.

Meteor Shower always spawns same thoughts in my head:
- “What the hell is hitting me?” (If I can’t see animation due to general firework show)
- “Is it our Ele doing it, or is it theirs? Hell, better not risk it.” (If I can see the animation)
- “How the hell do I get out? Which way to go? I need answers!” (If I can see the animation and know it’s damaging me)

All of those issues can easily be solved by simply adding a green/red AoE ring around it. Pretty please?

While we’re at it, Time Warp could use one of those as well (always hate that I can’t instantly tell which team used it while watching streams / sitting in observer mode).

in Profession Balance

Posted by: Harrier.9380

Harrier.9380

Tbh I don’t really get the whine about Pin Down. This skill is already telegraphed enough and easily dodgeable. I doubt animation changes will help in cases it currently is hard to notice (3v3+ fights, too many pets, too much particle effects or simply firing from outside field of view).

Yes, silentnight, I’m pretty sure people will still complain. I’m convinced you could replace this skill with bolas, and people would still complain, just because hammobw OP.
I agree it is and that something must be done about it, but this is not really the way.

IMO this whole thing is like trying to cure cancer with aspirine and hot tea. The real problem here is not the Pin Down, it’s the visual clutter all over the place that obscures completely obvious animation. If anything, more skills could use clean and simple animations like this instead of being a firework show.

Your top 5 design mistakes in GW2?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Harrier.9380

Harrier.9380

1. Particle effects everywhere – New armor – add particle effects to old one. Boss-unique weapons – add particle effects to old ones. New skill animations – use old animations, just change particle effects. I know having shinies is cool and all, but (however unlikely it might seem!) you can make a game with nice visuals without turning the player characters into christmas trees and boss\WvW fights into epilepsy triggers.

2. Passive Skills – For a game which advertises intense action combat, there are way to many passive and generally AI-related skills which allow classes to pretty much play themselves. Ranger spirits. Necro Minions. Mesmer Phantasms. Don’t get me started on traits which do stuff for you when X happens. (Usually ‘X’ being CC or health threshold, and ‘stuff’ being stability, stealth, dozen boons or immunity to damage/conditions/falling pianos/hatemail/shame for using all this passive crap)

3. Domination as the only PvP mode – And yes, I realize everyone here calls it conquest. It’s boring. It’s probably least played mode in history of PvP games. Hell, even Smite deleted theirs recently because no one wanted to play it. Players kept saying they hate the mode. So why make it not only the main, but the only PvP mode in the game? 1.5 year post relase we got confirmation of other modes sometime in the future. Kinda late now, when 80% of PvP population does it only for the dailies.

4. Grinding Story – a.k.a. Living Story. A game which covers lack of proper new content by always adding new stuff mixed with grind in 1:50 proportions and feels more like a chore or fulltime job than something you do for fun is… Well, it’s just another MMORPG, so let’s move on.

Aaaand…. I actually have trouble thinking of #5. Sure, there are some more issues but nothing so serious to qualify it as design-level mistake.

Would be cool if you talked about GS on Warrior, since it slowly becomes a hipster weapon anywhere outside of PvE.
Couple ideas:

  • Bring back 360° Bladetrail. Or at least make the cone a bit bigger. Kinda sick of failing it when my target moves 1° too far to the side while I’m throwing it.
  • Replace Rush with Ranger’s Swoop (minus the wings, we don’t want those), so our #5 actually hits stuff.
  • Replace F1 with skill that’s actually worth using. There are plenty ideas for that on the forums (probably buried under ‘HAMBOW OP PLS NERF YESTERDAY’ threads atm)*.

So… you know… stuff we’ve been saying for the whole 2013.

*Disclaimer: I’m strong supporter of slight Warrior nerf in sPvP yesterday. Or two days ago. Or a week. Basically any day War goes without nerf in sPvP, this mode dies a little.

You are pretty much spot on regarding passive play. Many people (including me) keep saying build power should be proportional to how difficult it is to play. While easy, passive builds should not be nerfed to oblivion, their power should be much lower than it is now. Ranger who choses to go 5 spirits and spam 1 on shortbow all day long should NEVER be stronger than say D/D ele who chains 10-15 skill combos.

There was no sign of Anet listening though, or planning to change the situation. Hell, even Clik, who always kept saying ‘Give them more time, it’ll be fine.’ couldn’t stand dumbing down the game anymore and left to look for something new.

As for halting strike, imo main problem is the same as with any ‘on interrupt’ effects, where interrupting auto attack is enough to trigger them, this should’ve changed long ago.

I’ld actually like some official post confirming they won’t be adding anything new to those chests. Something I can screenshot and show in case they suddenly add legendary mats to them.

Actually rolling your face on keyboard with fotm build is the best strategy for Skyhammer.

Ain’t not like they’ll avoid anything on those narrow ledges.XD

Well played, sir, well played.

I guess people complain about Skyhammer because rolling their face on keyboard with fotm build is not enough. You actually need a brain to not get outplayed and avoid long drop and sudden stop.

-Healing Spring (Ranger)
-Healing Turret (Engi)

People asking for ress when they are at less than 10% hp and two enemies focusing them.

Aka: they want someone else to share death with.

As for funny things…
- I remember this one guy ‘doing tryouts’ for ‘a new pro team’. Me and 3 other guys joined in for one game out of curiosity. Guy was like ‘ok you make strategy, I’m just here to watch’, then he completely ignored what we settled for. Kept running into 1v3’s, walking around where he could port (a Thief), going far and getting killed there over and over… in general being more of a liability than an asset to the team. Needless to say no one stayed for another round of tryouts.
- Got accused of macro and/or hacking couple times after doing backstab combos with double shadowstep… Guess people forgot spamming #3 on S/D is not the only way to play thief.
- After killing some guy with 30/30/10/0/0 GS/LB Ranger – “Yeah, spam 1 all day. Noob spirit ranger”.
- Symbolic, defending me like a lion, when my guildmates started trolling on map chat and accusing me of macro, farming Skyhammer and whatnot. (Love you <3)

Could probably write a book with quotes from Desolation Mists chat, but that would get me instabanned.
