This free core game is a reply from Anet, after – I repeat, after the community tell how bad this business model is.

The refund for buyers after january is again a reply after this controversy.

There’s no free core game… this cost is being charged from the huge veteran playerbase, since we are paying the game twice. And as for we know, there’s going to be a third time and so on…

Most of all, it´s not how MUCH… it’s HOW Anet is charging us. This is simply taking us for granted! It’s wrong to charge a cent twice for the same package. Obviously, no one is obligated to buy it. Who feels fine with it, ok, no problem at all. I won’t criticise the ones buying it. I’m complaining about this behaviour from Anet.

Back here in my country the community is in Rage with Anet/Ncsoft, planning not only to ignore HoT, but leave the game at all.

Unfortunately I like this game and meanwhile my downloads are running so I can try and choose which mmo should I pick instead.

ps: Even if a free slot would be a fair solution – which it’s not, I don’t want nor need it. So it’s my bad if I don’t have many alts? Seems my case is just a bad luck then.

It is a common sense that forums are made of opinions. The most various opinions.

Some will feel the same way.. some will disagree. No problem at all.

Fact is: No one here plays for free. Anet has its business model, they decided to go that way. So we bought the game just like required. Not a dime less, for a service provided by the company.

And most of all: it’s not how MUCH they are charging.. It’s the WAY they are charging us. Could be 49,99 or 4,99 or 499,99.. it’s wrong to buy the same game twice (and 3x, 4x, etc for each expansion). The free core game that so many people defend like real guardians, it’s being charged from veterans – Now guess the amount of that playerbase in front of new buyers… I’ll give a hint: it’s a huge number.

Curious fact: New buyer today will be tomorrow’s veteran. Start saving to buy your copy again.

By the way… Try to buy it for 49,98 – just a cent less… and see if Anet will tell: Ah ok… you played for 3 years so there’s no problem at all… here it is your copy. Have fun. Yet, all I read here is the contrary: That I played for 3 years and should not complain… that maybe I might be elsewhere, etc, etc…

GW2 is played worldwide and a particular issue to me (and yes, my problem then) is that my local currency is 3x 49,99. Since I bought two accounts back 2012 to me and my wife, the math is simple. Buuuut, I should not complain or whine.

Well, moving on… guys, sorry for any english mistake and I wish the best for you all. Have a nice weekend, take care of your health, brush your teeth and drink lots of water!!

It’s nice to see so many people crying out that it’s not that expensive… that who dislike the HoT model is whining about it… that 3 years is too much for the cost…

Why not start a petition so the price goes a bit higher? Come on, it’s so cheap… Or maybe change it to a sub model. We have right to pay more!

Really don’t know why this question brings so much rage when someone complains about the paid value and the model presented here at HoT.

People rush to the battlefront like a real guardian to protect Anet business with shouts like:
- You’ve been playing for 3 years… the game is already paid!
- You don’t belong to here if you don’t wanna pay the expansion!
- Go and play another game if you are not satisfied!
- Anet launched content and did not charged us for that!
- etc, etc, etc…

People, don’t forget:
- We owe nothing to Anet. It’s a good company but we owe nothing;
- Anet isn’t doing any favors;
- Anet has a business model for GW2. They decided about B2P + gem store, so even though someone play for a decade, the service was totally paid and this should not be treated like a favor.
- It’s not only the base game and gems market that rule a game like this… the company needs us to logon in a regular basis… so the game can keep growing. Who wants to play a mmo as crowded as a desert at midday sun?

Don’t bother to pay it again? Feels like a good price to you? Nice! But don’t rush to diminish the ones believing that an extra slot is fair enough.

Let the berserker mode begins.

Exactly! I do like many things in GW2, but certanly I’m planning not put my feet back in LA as long as I don’t need it to achieve something.

I have to say, I don’t like the new Lion’s arch at all. The old LA was so intricate and interesting and had character with all the ships and the sails. Even the bricks in the walks were unique! I couldn’t believe the level of detail in the original LA, in fact, I would comment about it to my friends at what an amazing work of art it was.

The new LA, is boring. It looks like some east Phoenix pedestrian mall. As one of the premier cities of the game I’m amazed at the low-budget look it has. If ArenaNet didn’t have the funds to redo LA to it’s amazing glory then you should have not destroyed it in the first place!!!!

It really reduced my enthusiasm for the game. If I want to PvP or Dungeon I have other games that are better. I return to GW2 for the art, the beauty, the realism and the detail.

Back to the drawing boards folks and this time do LA justice!!!!!

Lol! A mall!! Indeed! A mix between water park and open mall!

Now, THAT’S a town to be destroyed by evil forces!

Why call it Lion’s Arch since all we can see are giant lobsters, crabs, shrimps, seashells…

It’s way, way more tropical than Southsun Cove!

Seems like you just arrive at your caribbean resort for some serious vacations.

Get your sunglasses, order an icy margarita and some snacks and enjoy shade of the mega jellyfish covering the central plaza, while your kids have fun in the giang lobster pool or any of the great water toys.

As for me, gladly they didn’t change Divinity’s Reach…

Hi guys,

Anet should give two options then.. easy to solve it: a package to new players with the freebie GW2 core, and another focused to long time players – the ones who have been supporting the game through gem store for instance.

Why someone who never spent a dime on it has more advantages the veterans ones?

I also know that many threads have been posted about it, but possibly, the more complains about, the more Anet will gather feedback about it.

Being a long time player, i bought two accounts of GW2 since the very release of the game.

Now why do us have to pay the whole game again + expansion, if we already got the base game? This is totally unfair!

Veteran’s additinal slot is not a solution, because I don’t want nor need another character slot. I just want to but the expansion.

So, is going to be a fair option for us to buy it with a proper cost?

I mean, if standard pack is $ 49,99 (gw2 core + HoT), how much will cost the expansion alone?

Thx!

IMO character bound map is also ok.

This one goes as a suggestion for dev team:

- Add a plus and minus symbol beside the values box within TP interface, instead of the current tiny arrows (up and down) is hard to handle.

The plus and minus buttons could be like the ones into Traits window, where you add points to it…

GW2 needs a new graphics engine!!!

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

A new engine would be good only if oriented to a less gpu/cpu demanding, in my opinion.

You can install GemFX or SweetFX and play around with many graphics settings or get a preset.

I have attached a screenshot with one of the settings I tested.

Heavy real-looking engines are not good yet to mmo’s… would turn the game nearly unplayable… let’s see how Black Desert will behave. ESO has another artistic style, but lets face it… GW2 is tons ahead in overall… ESO movement feels blocky, robotic and strange…

HAve a nice time around!

Name a game.

With all the people whining and moaning in map chat about the bugs, I’d like to propose a little something. Name me a game where there are no maintenance down times, helpful support staff who try their best, staff in game who talk to the players and sometimes even hang around or do PvP or dungeons or fractals with the players, has minor bi-weekly updates with new cash shop items that can still be bought with in game currency, hot fixes to fix these bugs every day and not long after the major patch is released, free content bi weekly for the specific seasons, player driven events and communities that get supported by the game’s company, and finally a game that’s one of gamings friendliest communities.

If you can name me a game with all that and more, perhaps we should all move there because obviously a lot of people don’t appreciate the work that goes into this game.

The fun part is the whining and moaning is the same in another mmo’s forums… people who plays wow, aion, eso, etc….:)

I’m trying, I’m really trying to get back and play.. but it’s being tough! This week I got myself lucky to escape from random black-sound-screens, but disconnections are my company now.

And let’s face it: These errors are a server-sided problem. I see that everyone of us is struggling to identify what is possible wrong with our machines… I saw even PSU suggestions among other things. But that’s not the case. At least for the majority of us. I got several, several games and apps here – heavy ones. And there’s no sense that such gw2 server disconnections fault is at client side.

I know this is not news judging by the many threads about it. Also, i don’t want to flood the forum with the same issue again and again, BUT….

Truth is that game is unplayable. I’ll say it again. Unplayble!

You decide to play it a bit in a sunday afternoon like this very one. And then, at the time commands stop working or a great latency spike show up, guess what?

Yep. You are disconnected. 4 times today. I’ll probably try it again, because I really wish to know how is to play a guardian… I just don’t how for how long will I wait.

Probably till I found another stable mmo, which I can login and play at the moment I want to.

I respect the efforts done by the team in charge, but what I just wish we can play the game at the time we want to. We know that errors do happen, but they must be an Exception, not a CONSTANT.

Botttom line is that we bought this game but we cannot play it anymore. That’s what is really bothering me.

Hi Dat!

Yeah, I’ve got exactly a 600 watt psu. I don’t think that’ the deal. Prior this one, I used to play with a 400 watts psu without problem. Specially about login and disconnect errors, I truly believe that’s not the case. And I play other heavy demand games, like Battlefield 3 and Skyrim (fully graphic modded with enb series).

Mine is a core i5 3.20, 4 gigs ram, radeon 5750 dd5 1gb. Game runs pretty smooth without AA 40~50 fps average.

By the way.. have you tried to disable core parking? This is a must to pc gamers… Tell me if you need help about it or google as well. The difference is pretty good. Games start to run without micro stuterings, giving us a better gameplay.

I’ve post about the same issues man.

I really wish they focus on that instead of new content so many times. The game is becoming more and more unstable for the last 6 months or more here.

Seriously! To the point I simply can’t access and test new features, due the amount of errors, disconnections, black screens, etc….

Meanwhile I’m trying some others, like Rift, The Secret World and SWTOR – this one very, very fun! More than I expected… Unfortunatelly, free account has too many restrictions. But the complete game seems to worth it!

Good luck you all!

Exactly. Unfortunatelly, I’ve been dealing with that more and more. Usually, everytime a new content is realeased, I can’t play it without some major efforts.

For instance I still don’t know how the new WvW map is… because after 3, 4 tries to log in, the game crashes during loadind.

Another error: trying to create a new character and guess what? I’ve got disconnected due to login server.

Overall, I must give some tries to everything I want to do, because it fails at first.

No solution so far, but try it again later or go play something else – which is becoming more and more frequent.

Hey Informer,

This game is beautiful indeed! There are some minor options you can try to improve your fps without loose quality:

- Disable AA into the game or in your GPU driver. AA weigths tons specially in a mobility gpu;
- Try different shader and post processing options in graphic settings. I personally don’t like post processing at maximum. It’s too bright! Even clothes or leather shines like a metalic surface…
- Reflexive at maximum also demand havy gpu processing… try disable it and see how it likes to you

Core Parking:
About your alienware, have you disabled core parking function? This helped me tons! You’ll find threads about it here in this forum as well. I have done it through the registry method.. you don’t need to download any program. That’s how:

- Naviagate to this key
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Power\PowerSettings\54533251-82be-4824-96c1-47b60b740d00\0cc5b647-c1df-4637-891a-dec35c318583

- Change “Attributes” to 0;
- Reboot;- Go to advanced energy management and change the core parking option to 100%, as the example image (it’s in portuguese, but is the same option).

Actually you’ll get an overall improvement not only in GW2, but in most games as well. Let me know how it goes to you.

at all? even a little bit?

Reading this forum as a new player, I get the impression that this is one of the worst MMOs on the market.

JMadFour,

I understand what you said about the negative feeling in this forum. I came by just to check new comments, tips, etc.. but indeed, there are tons of negative thoughts.

Just as commented by other players, play a bit at your own pace and in your playstyle. GW2 is indeed different, and every mmo player should try it.

For instance, if I’ve started do look some posts here before playing, I don’t know if I’d buy the game… That’d be awful, because I would miss the chance to enjoy the best mmorpg out there in my opinion. I will not stress all well know features, but only tell that in my case it’s perfect since I can play on my own and still enjoy so much content, without the need to level cap asap to reach “now that you reached level cap, the game really begins..”.

Check if it gives you fun.. that’s the key-word. If so, you won’t regret.

Best wishes you all!

Kharlus.3612

This is not directed at you, but I’m convinced 90-95% of the population don’t know how to play the game in terms of events. People think that just because an event is over, that’s it, when the reality could be nothing further from the truth. The NPC world is alive and many times there’s hint/starters to events/event-chains that people never find simply because they don’t take the time to read a book, inspect an odd looking creature, talk to an NPC (even without the event marker overhead). Anet’s done a great job at providing a whole range of ways events happen, and how they’re tied into NPCs lives or the map theme. If I had a silver every time a person ran off straight after an event and missed the chest/pre-cursor to the following event simply because they didn’t take the time to listen/talk to the NPC talking to them, well I’d have enough coin for a second T2 cultural armour set.

Alternatively people seem to think nothing goes on before an event takes place. NPCs talk out loud to themselves or other NPCs (or even us) all the time and wander off and do things that will lead to an event, but no one ever seem to pay attention. I’m simply amazed.

So my suggestion: Take your time and really pay attention to the world around you. If you’re all about leveling and just play the game as a barbie doll dress-ups for little boys to show off how ‘leet’ your character is compared to others, then this will fall on deaf ears, but the world really is alive and there’s a font of knowledge, hints and insight out there to be had, all one has to do is open their eyes and ears to it, take their time, and enjoy the world.

GW2 is very different, but if you just play it the same way you played other MMOs, it will feel the same.

Very well said!!

I ‘d like to add that here we don’t need an explicit endgame.. it’s a nowgame! In other mmo’s we are all used to play an area, level up and then go away.. never looking back, since all got grayed, there’s no quests, there’s no drop, there’s no challenge. You can’t even help a friend, because of exp. GW2 is indeed the opposite!

Once, I talked to an npc without any signs above her head (just like you said). She complained about some bears attacking her honey… then, there they are! They came from bushes and start to attack us! When you get the farm back from bandits too… it’s nice see all cows running back..:) These and much more cool stuff happened in Queensdale… very first human area.

Alaric,

As much as you prefer Elementalists, give a chance to another class, trying to discover the one who suits you better. I don’t know if you have tried create one and go to sPvP.. that way you can try all skills and traits in any class.

As mentioned before, Engineers seems pretty fun, and they even have healing devices.. maybe you can build your traits in a more healer profile.

- Jump into sPvP and try to gather folks around to capture minor areas;

- I PvE maybe you can use the daily achievements as a “guide”… when you are trying to complete it, many things will happen and the time really goes by!! Besides, you have instant goals;

- Don’t bother in leveling too fast or reach higher areas as fast as possible… this is our behaviour in another mmo’s… In my case for instance, I’m still playing in zones -10 lvls below me… with delevel feature, the content still enjoyable! I also try to keep my gear update through crafting.

I hope you can have a nice time around Tyria! See ya!

Combat dynamics question / Combat thoughts

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Kharlus.3612

Kharlus.3612

Hello fellow adventurers!

Since the very beginning I am very pleased about some features that I found in GW2 only! For this topic I’ll stick on combat dynamics aspect:

- I don’t need HP, MP potions anymore (what a relief);
- I can dynamically react dodging from incoming attacks;
- I can heal myself;
- I can be saved by a team mate when in downed state (that actually happened a few times, while I was begging for help…lol);
- I don’t die through one-hit-only! (At least not so far… even with common gear, against some threating people);
- The hit detection seems quite accurate (In some mmo’s out there we get hit by meele attack miles away);
- Movement matters! If I get on moving, seems like my opponent can’t defeat me while he takes a soda sip and smash some buttons;
- I can combine skills with my teamates!
- I can switch between ranged and meele style whenever necessary, with chances to do them both pretty well!
- I can combine weapons and skills, building different playstyles. I got amazed, for instance, by thief possibilities: dagger/dagger, dagger/pistol, pistol/dagger, pistol/pistol.. not to mention shortbows and swords!

I’m definitelly against gear-based/insane grinding games (I won’t and can’t discuss about most recent changes yet). That’s what made me come to Tyria! Im at lvl 41 with absolutely no rush to level, since I still don’t need to reach level cap in order to enjoy the content.

So I’d like to have some opinions from you about these combat/gear/skill stuff aspect in pvp subject (WvWvW). Once at 80 with such features, a player still have chance against might heavy geared ones?

I really hope the community and Anet team keep working together, making GW2 such a pleasant experience.

Have you all a nice time!

Indeed, you can travel to another areas, or try a bit of achievements.. it gets you some exp and bonuses. Also, events you already did, still rewards you or they can change… a farm coud be taken bay bandits, etc…

Use what you collect for crafting.. make some insignias and try the discover feature.. gives you a good amount of exp too…

Hi friend!
That’s a “problem” when a game has so many good options to play!
I felt this way if I think something like: “Am I missing something? Is this the BEST class to play?”

Good news is here there’s no rush to level… all the fun is right there waiting for you. There’s no “Wait till you see endgame.. that’s when the game starts”.. tsc tsc… Finally we do have fun till the very beggining.. no need to level cap a toon to see if you like it.

A good option is try structured PvP, since you can test all skills… play a bit to discover what suits you better.

As a manner to filter and make easily your option, try to ask yourself:

- Do I like physical/metal weapons?
- Do I like magic spells?
- Do I prefer attack from distance or see my enemy eye’s right in front of me?
- Do I prefer slow/strong or fast/medium attacks?
- Seeing epic movies, which type of characters are my favorite ones?

That way you’ll manage to at least feel confortable choosing a magic or warrior type of class.

My two personal options: Thief (dual dagger/ shortbow) and Warrior (Rifle / Longsword).

I hope this really helps you out there! Just make sure you be present on Tyria! Let’s make the change in there!

Best wishes!

Have a look on your stats.. for me, a shortbow is pretty helpful because of AoE skills (bomb and venon)…even though i prefer the pistol looks! lol

Hi,

As for laptops especially, make sure you are using High Performance energy profile under Power Management within Windows Settings.

I don’t know you you also did:

- Disable AA and Vsync on you GPU… it make great difference on fps…

See you!

Welcome to Action-driven combat within MMORPG!
What if you set your target to middle mouse button?
On PvP especially, movement is indeed a key!

Low FPS....

Hello fellow Tyria explorer!

Don’t mind about 100+ fps.. if you manage to keep it around 40 ~ 60, you are just fine! You’ll see a difference between 30 and 60 fps for sure… its much more smoother… but above ~60’s you’ll see no difference at all.

I don’t know if you already did some fine tweaks on your GPU driver, but at least have a check on:

- Disable Vsync (vertical refresh) in your GPU and game (This should be used only if you got around 100 fps… that way you’ll reach your monitor refresh rate.. which is commonly 60 or 75 hertz);

- Disable AA (both in game and GPU driver);

- Try to lower shadows, according your taste of detail… in crowded areas figthing bosses or in WvW, the thing we practically don’t see at all is shadow detail;

- Lower shaders (IMO, high setting is too bright… and it’s a fps consumer);

I hope this helps your gameplay… every fps is worth for such a awesome world like GW2!

Best wishes!
