Hi everyone,

Myself, Ted B, Stargate and others have agreed to get players on Gate of Madness server on a reliable schedule for Temple of Balthazar event. Several of us in map chat have organized a daily push at the event chain at 5pm PST/8pm EST.

We figure that this time will be accommodating to those working the day shift and/or attending school/college. Because it’s the time that dailies roll over, it’ll help meet those dailies quickly and it will also serve as a mnemonic tool to remember when it is.

Whether you’re lookin’ to open a big ol’ chest full of gear, you’re after a fair amount of xp/karma/silver (many mobs in quest chain to loot from too), or you’re lookin’ to purchase the Obsidian Shard for your epic Legendary weapon – we could use your help!

I’m hoping we can pull together as a server and show some community pride & unification.

They likely don’t count straight up healing or partial healing contribution because as a lowly level 2 I can be exploring, heal a level 80 while passing by the area, and not even be participating in the player’s live event.

So we were told we can only craft 2 out of the 5 minis. So I have bought the other 3 for gems from the shop. Now everyone got an extra 250(+200 if you looted chest before) cogs.
I want 350 gems refunded.

I’ve also just filed a bug report about this, I didn’t get any rewards from Tixx in LA.

What happened is I talked to him and was totally expected a present in my bags so didn’t see the chest at first. At that moment my party entered the dungeon and I clicked to join them while still checking my bags.
Then I heard from my party it was a chest so I returned to LA, only to find the chest already opened and unlootable by me.
Talking to Tixx he tells me there’s only one gift disbursement per citizen.

My problem was different. I opened chest and had little to no inventory space. I think I got all items from the chest… but honestly I am not sure.

I don’t apologize for the upcoming rant, just my two cents on the event.

I used to love GW1 holiday events. Get together in LA, dance, shoot off snowmen makers, and get presents. I’d sit on teamspeak with guildies, and talk to the hundreds of people in town. It was a community feeling event.

GW2 events are… well … reading, and more reading, and grinding, and more grinding… You get information on the web and through gw mail. You have to collect x mats and make x items. If you don’t read, you’re basically lost. This is odd because I remember watching a GW2 video before the game came out on DEs. The devs were saying traditional MMOs were all reading and doing quests. GW2 was different because you just watched the event happen. I feel like the holiday events miss that idea entirely.

The community feel is gone as well since everyone is basically just grinding in their own little world.

Wintersday has thrown in a new element to the mix. Add a whole ton of items to deal with in an already limited inventory space. Now we get reading, grinding, AND inventory management.

It’s a bit depressing. I used to look forward to the events so much, this is probably the last one I do.

Anyone else feeling any of this? or am I missing something?

Ok I will say I do agree with you on the email front of if you do not read it, you may find yourself lost compared to Guild Wars 1.

… for storage box from Lost Shores and 15-slot box from Wintersday!

After the debacle that was the Lost Shores disconnect/reconnection issue, I was plesantly surprised to get that email that gave me Karka box along with many items my low level character cannot use yet(I’ll get there eventually). But then I noticed last night after visiting with Tixx at Lion’s Arch I now have an additional 15-slot box and from earlier you gave us access to that Witch’s hat, the event just became even better for me personally.

Even though the last thing I want from you is an option to buy the digital deluxe edition at a discount as I would consider it a waste to apply a Collector’s edition code at this point to my account, with the ways you have responded to the community’s requests, I just wanted to post…. THANK YOU.

My 5 years with GW1 were not sufficiently wasted time.

I felt bad for spending $20 on the digital deluxe version when I realized I could get it with in-game gold, especially in the first couple months when gem to gold ratios were insanely low. Now, I’m just hoping Anet hands out this wizard hat to everyone., and it better not look like the witch hat either.

Not asking for a refund. Please don’t try to muddle the subject.

It’s just that some bought the regular because digital either sold out or too expensive at time. Now there is promo where you can get it for free, so some of us would like to get at that promo without the full cost of another retail offer. We are willing to meet them half way, which is better than them getting nothing at all from us.

For me personally: My original goal was to get the collectors with statue but was sold out before I could get my paycheck. Had customer support use my retail code on my account in a moment of confusion and mis-communication, now just waiting for a good deal to go digital in the event I still can obtain an new copy of the collector’s version.

The cost is actually 2000 gems, which is $25. I guess they decided to charge an additional $5 over the total you would have paid if you just got the deluxe version outright. Same here. I purchased the Gems to get the digital upgrade before using my Standard edition code, then realized it would be cheaper to purchase the retail box digital deluxe or Collector’s at some website. Since I have since used my standard as I could not locate a cheap collector’s, I am waiting for a a sale the digital upgrade and using those Gems on Black Friday deals.

Ok, since my last post got an infraction, let me add a more meaningful post. Why I quoted the other user was to agree that the game cannot seek to thrive by making itselfr look like or a clone of another game. It should instead focus on what makes it unique, WvW & PvE, and focus on that instead of gear grinding and one time events for l33t gear that a good portion of the player base does not like.

I have gone back to GW1, because it seems the game is more about what ANET wants and an profit from than creativing my own experience like I could with GW1.

Sadly, I was so pissed at not being able to finish the event due to DC that I logged off for the night. Now I hear that people went from overflow to overflow to gain multiple chests and I am even more pissed.

Quite doubtful I will ever spend another cent on this game.

Between bugged events and NPCs and your big `super chest` that was placed, which half the attendees got screwed out of… you really might consider just placating your players on this one.

(All items soulbound and unable to be salvaged, as this is to make the items available to people, not to give people money)

I agree with what you saying here it be nice just to get something out of it cause the time spent. I would really love just to get the bag shell and that chest that droped. They do not have to do anything super fancy a simple mail saying thank you for killing the Karaka we found some stuff we thought you should have it and boom you get items. The event it self in scope of it all is a nice way to introduce new zones and get people amp up to come out and do it. I think anet has a lot of feed back from this event so i am sure there going to do better down the line.

Communication needs to be buffed by a LOT by devs, and perhaps rewards for these events reworked, but this game is new and has intense potential.

Yea I understand there was a one time event but what is there to do AFTER the event? Southsun cove is suppose to be a permanent feature but when you go there it looks like almost all Dynamic events on that island were just for the one time event.

I went around the entire island and I found 3 Dynamic events. Collecting eggs, retaking a camp and a shark.

Is that really whats going to be here now that the one time event is done? 3 dynamic events and 2 jumping puzzles and just a bunch of veterans to farm?

Why is everyone complaining about The Lost Shores event? I more than understand frustration caused by lag or disconnect problems and issues with looting. Perfectly good reason to complain. Also, constructive criticism about the actual event will be helpful in assuring quality for future events. Constructive criticism = good.

But I’m hearing so much rage about one-time events and how unfair they are. Before the event was over people were raging about the event The one-time events will happen again, so what if real-life got in the way? You realize you can go do a dungeon and get the same quality of loot for the time spent in the one-time event, right?

I have work. I missed the first two events. A few of my good friends missed the Sunday one. Guess what we did that night? We got on and did fractals. No one complained. No one raged. We all missed events and we’re OK with that and excited about possible future ones.

One-time events are NOT unfair. They are NOT mandatory. They do NOT give loot that you can’t get elsewhere. They do NOT give an achievement. They are NOT responsible for your choosing real life over a game.

Please apply the same logic to World Events, especially if you’re giving out drops like legendary precursors. Please stop the “one-time” events tied to a specific time of day. There are lots of suggestions on this forum about how to get around it. Implement phasing on a character/account basis, let it run repeatedly for a week or a month, etc. The rest of us might not be playing during peak concurrency hours, but we’re paying customers too.

I had lost faith in the ability of MMOs to turn an event into a laggy crapfest where the server blows up and denies everyone the prizes. Congratulations guys, you really one-upped the worst event in WoW history with the single most breathtaking example of game design and server incompetence that I have ever personally witnessed. In fairness, Everquest’s Sleeper event may still hold the overall crown, but I wasn’t online for that one when it happened.

But this, this is a masterpiece. From the horrible core concept of one-time events that occur in the middle of a workday for most of the playerbase, to the servers grinding to a smoking halt in the bigger fights, to the piece de resistance of shutting down the game for a patch when the group I was in had the boss in the final stage and were literally seconds away from downing him after hours of laggy hell, there was not one facet of this experience that was not perfectly crafted to troll your customers. The fact that players had to collaborate outside of the game to even make it into instances where they could attempt to play through the event, only to then have the event crash on them and make them start again from square one, really brings me back to the golden days of MMORPGs. That rare sensation of having a game designer’s genitals pressed against my cheek while their hips gyrate and I sob quietly is not something I’ve experienced from any other online game in recent memory. Even SWTOR managed somehow to not be made of that much disappointment, and it was made by EA! My hat is off to you, sirs.

Now you just need to cap it off by having an ingame announcement from the developers in a PvP zone and forget to turn on the invulnerable flag for the head designer. At that point, GW2 will have cemented its place in online gaming history forever.

As I read these pages I am repulsed by the amount of negativity concerning the Lost Shores event. Yes, it had it’s problems, yes there was lag and yes people, including myself, were disconnected before being able to complete phase 3. The time I spent playing the game this weekend wasn’t wasted, I enjoyed myself and I saw many other players enjoying themselves too. There was a sense of comraderie present that I have not seen in any other MMO. Many times did I and other players help one another when we were downed. We stuck together, we fought the good fight and we had fun. Yes, I would certainly like my reward for the event but it’s not going to make me quit the game if I don’t get it. Thank you Anet for all that you did to make this event a success, I appreciated it and i’m sure so do many other players. Looking forward to the next one.

Ok, I will agree with you on that point. I have never been revived or revived so many people without fuss in any other game. So thank you for making that so common in this game.

Sorry to hear that. I tried to get into the event myself, but it is likely the ending of the event was done on a timer purely out of the forum Mods or Game Moderators control. It was likely programmed in at the start of the event so the developers could enjoy THEIR WEEKENDS with no thought to our enjoyment. There I said it. :P

Would you say… Repeat the Superbowl, I didn’t like the outcome. Repeat the Worlds Fair, I was too young to remember most of it. Repeat the guild event, I was out bowling. The event was announced a long time ago and was specific about times. This game is supposed to be dynamic and not like all the others. There will be more events. I know I won’t make them all but I won’t expect to either. I already missed most of the Halloween event due to work, but I wouldn’t expect them to reset it because I had more important things to do. It’s also not a pay to play so you have to keep that in mind too. Just sayin

I can say one thing about this event. It turned the forums into something like Bliz forums real quick. And I was actually using them too. Oh well, I’m off to watch a movie with my Wife and enjoy real life for a bit. Have fun peeps and get some air.

LOL. You dont need to tell ME that. After about an hour of QQing when the first event ended, I want to spend some time with my real life brother and his chruch friends playing COD2 black ops. After that wasdone I came back to here and soon after an hour, I discover that some server have the event running. Right back to QQing again.

Just like in Star Trek Online, the devs are asleep and they put the game on a timer so they can load and forget as it were. Sucks MAJORLY for us..

What the heck my game just crashed? Oh No, they disconnected the event I think as it is 10PM PST/12AM CST when the event in the Southern Shores was supposed to end. I really hope they did not give give the finger to those still trying to finish the event on servers where they did not have enough to finish it earlier.
