Can someone please post a youtube video of how to do this. I’m an idiot. I can’t figure out puzzles due to my autism. I enjoy killing stuff. Please help. Don’t explain it, I can see the mechanics I just can’t do it. I do need my hand held so please help. We’re not all IT programmer puzzle experts. Some of us are just casual games and this game used to be friendly to us. Not anymore.

Leave puzzles to the fractals. Make LS fun and friendly like it used to be.

Is condi the best?

Mazdan.2071

I usually run condi warrior and I have average results. For fun, I ran an axe/sheild, rifle burst build (zerker) and I had better than average results. The stances and shield gave me the sustain I was used to, but the burst damage was, well , poorly defended. My damage is much higher with this build compared to a viper sword build.

Dunno, viper is great on paper but rarely does the extended condi effects run their duration. Condis get wiped quick and its consistent during a match but the upfront burst damage seems to work better for me. Nobody runs toughness anymore and this was the defense against burst. Give it a try.

My instance was bugged too. I was stuck in the entrance unable to move but I did kill the boss but could not move toward the portal. I am very disappointed. All that work for literally nothing.

I’ve played this game since launch but I may have to quit over this. That was way too much to go through without a reward. Bad rollout.

Warrior race?

Human has access to Reaper of Grenth. I know racial skills aren’t great, but I got a lot of use out of it as a wvw zerg busting skill back when warriors had few decent elites. With today’s meta condi builds, this skill may provide some extra condi pressure and it does effect up to 10 targets with 2 condis that warriors have little access to: poison and chill.

Check it out.

When I am out of wvw, my titles (Marauder or example)show ( I test this by pressing the Alt key). When I am in wvw, they don’t show. Just the name, guild tag and the pvp number show. I see others’ titles as I run in wvw, but mine has not been showing probably since Christmas or before. Is there a fix? Thanks in advance.

I did send a bug report in game over a month ago and no response yet.

I’ve been running a PS type of warrior in wvw only instead of GS, I run a MH axe with a sigil of strength and a OH shield traited. This along with For Great Justice and Signet of Rage does help stack might (8 off the bat and the others trickle in with blocks(shield) and crits from Marauders gear/Axe), and empower allies is up as well. I have rifle on swap because I find ranged very handy in wvw.
The shield allows for a stun—which sets up Eviscerate and it allows me to get into towers blocking and stacking might all along the way. GS doesn’t offer the personal DPS that MH axe does, nor the utility that shield offers in wvw IMO. This setup also works in pve well enough.

Hope this helps.

Making main-hand sword work

Mazdan.2071

MH sword will never have the power of a GS, but I find a few things can help it. I’ve ran OH mace with dual wielding trait(Arms). The mace #4 give you 10 stacks of vuln. and its easier to land in pvp and wvw with the dual wield trait.

Also I find that Heightened Focus( Disc) is a great trait to land Final Thrust quickly and it helps down opponents quickly in wvw and pvp. Finally, Frenzy stance can really help with dps and also land final thrust quickly. Frenzy stance is just a great all around skill along with For Great Justice. Those are usually on my bar.

Look into sigils too. I got a sigil of strength in a sword and it works well with Blademaster trait. I crit a lot and gain might stacks.

Warrior Builds/guides/tips........

Mazdan.2071

I personally enjoy sword/shield as my main weaponset. I have lb on swap usually for wvw walls and such. I find that MH sword’s damage is not as bad as perceived when using the Arms line. The bleeding stacks, vuln stacking from rending strikes, the 5% damage to bleeding foes, and I like Deep Strike over Blademaster trait as BM is a bit much(and it synergized with LB swap); and its damage is not bad at all.

I take down the heavier golems in heart of the mists faster with a sword/shield traited than an axe shield with the overrated Strength line and I’m only 1 second or so behind a GS. The shield gives me a stun and a reflect the GS doesn’t.

The other lines—Defense (shield mastery, Endure Pain or Armored Attack and Cleansing Ire traits (synergize with LB))and Discipline (warrior sprint, Brawler’s Recovery, and Heightened Focus traits) are great as well. I find Heightened Focus to be a great GM trait on the Disc line for damage.

For heals I like healing signet—I have signets traited from the much maligned Arms line. I also like For Great Justice (works with Deep Strike trait from Arms), Dolyak signet—again traited, and Frenzy for dps ( this works well with the Heightened Focus trait). For Elite I usually do Rampage, Banner or Signet (traited and works with Deep Strike from Arms line).

For dungeons I may change to a cheese PS build but I don’t care for those. Anyway you won’t find this on metabattle (cookiecutter) but it works, and it’s original.

Oh, Sinister gear is good for this. You’ll be stacking bleeds and those big ticks give you better sustained damage overall and cause your target to condi cleanse. In pve your condis will just stack and melt the enemy.

Condi Necro runes?

I like Undead runes. They may not be top tier, but you can get a full set for under 10 silver now and they are tailor made for necro IMO. At worst, they can tide you over until you can obtain your premier set and they won’t cost you a lot.

I like them better than Krait, since they help overall toughness and condi damage—and convert toughness to condi damage as opposed to being bleed specific. I mainly run dagger/wh with staff on swap, so not a ton of bleeds there. Give them a look.

Advice on a shield build?

in Warrior

Mazdan.2071

I run 6 in arms, with sword traits and signet mastery, 6 in defense with shield traits and whatever else—CI or Last stand and 6 in Discipline with Warrior sprint, brawler’s recovery, and such. I got longbow on swap and I’m doing well in pvp and wvw. pve is cake too tho I’m not a “team player” like a shoutbow.

I run all signets except I toss FGJ on my bar and use Rampage for pvp and wvw. So far I’m very happy with the build. I even tried out Runes of the Undead and they are working better than expected.

I can block with my shield and easily gain 8-12 stacks of might in less than 3 sec. from a ranger in pvp or wvw, or a mob in pve. The shield trait is very nice indeed, but everyone will still want warhorn even tho I think shield has it beat.

Plague will be devastating after the update

in Necromancer

Mazdan.2071

Necro may be the first profession where race matters. For necro now, I would suggest someone be human for the racial healing and racial elites. The Dwayna heal isn’t terrible, has a decent CD, and there are no ill effects; the Reaper of Grenth is very similar to Plague only no blind, no stability, and lower uptime (5 sec), but again no ill effects.

Sylvari also have some decent racial skills for healing and elites but Reaper of Grenth at least allows you to ‘feel’ like a Necro when you use it.

Is dual- wielding dead now?

Mazdan.2071

OH mace may benefit from the 15% attack speed increase, but I’ll have to see it first. OH mace is great, but I can only use it in pve. In pvp and wvw, the attacks are too slow and easily dodged, but a 15% speed boost may remedy that.

I still think they should toss in the 5% damage increase for dual wielding. Make it baseline.

PvE Runes of choice...

in Warrior

Mazdan.2071

Some cheap runes that served me well are Superior Runes of the Warrior—they give Power and Vitality buff and reduce weapon swap (so you don’t need Fast Hands and can put that point elsewhere). Also Runes of the Wurm—good for cheap DPS. Soldier runes are solid if you run shouts and I don’t think they’re too expensive.

Hoelbrak seems to be the most expensive, and they seem to have themost utility in pve, pvp, and wvw. It’s probably the one set that can do all. Melandru runes seem nice too. Try out several in pvp and see what works. It’s free.

January 27th Necromancer balance changes

Mazdan.2071

I’m very grateful to the changes to Signet of the Locust. I usually run WvW and have it on my bar for the speed. It has healed me in the past in an emergency, but not enough to be considered a valuable “active” utility skill. Even with Signets traited, you may gain some might, but that’s about it. And after using it, you run like molasses until the CD wears off (even with Warhorn equipped).

Now, you gain more healing for using it, lower CD=more speed overall, and if you trait if—some might and an even lower CD. This could mean more damage dealing both passive(might stacks) and active, more healing active, more speed overall, and it has a cast time that you can actually use in WvW.

You could run a signet build with this and Signet of Spite in order to make good use if the trait. SoS has both a strong active and passive ability. You just have to cast it early in wvw in order to get it off uninterrupted, but it has a 1200 range so that’s doable.

Does Rifle still work with condition builds?

in Warrior

Posted by: Mazdan.2071

Mazdan.2071

I still use rifle in WvW for a few reasons. With fast hands trait it’s easy to switch to and launch #3—this surprises many kiters. I also trait Crack shot(pierce and lower cooldowns)—perfect trait for WvW zerg fights. I only use #3 and maybe the auto attack, I then switch back to melee—the cooldowns on #3 are short with the Crack shot trait and the damage is good.

I find it keeps the pew pew rangers and other kiting types honest. They think they are getting away, only to get shot in the back repeatedly.

Mazdan.2071

A new race/class though I’m currently leveling up a ranger and the leveling process isn’t bad except for the trait unlocks—that sucks and will cost a lot of gold. All I do to level him up is EOTM which does not unlock a lot of traits.

I do like getting something every level and as far as weapon skills, personal story unlocks—I really don’t care about those. The trait unlocks really burn me though as I don’t want to run around and do that content again. I don’t like it when games “make” me do something or else it’s all your gold, or no soup for you.

Either that or offer trait unlock alternatives for EOTM and WvW where most alts tend to be. There is a point where most players stop PVE and dangling a trait isn’t going to work.

Sword/Sword is good. Put your points in the precision line (2nd from the top) as it has all the sword and bleeding traits which you will benefit from. Longbow is a good swap weapon as well to go with sword/sword.

There are several builds on these forums—it’s usually called condition warrior. Check them out, but precision will be your main area of focus as far as traits.

Axe/mace is good. Trait for power (top line) and take dual wielding (5% damage when wielding axe, mace, or sword in offhand). You can also just use a greatsword. I think you would still go power, but I’m not sure.

I prefer axe/mace due to the vuln stacking and dual wielding trait expecially early on. For Great Justice is usually the first utility skill I buy because its great for solo damage and group damage—it’s almost never off my toolbar.

Hope this helps.

Best Heal?

in Warrior

Posted by: Mazdan.2071

Mazdan.2071

I just started playing my warrior again. I usually run WvW, and some farming pve type stuff—silverwastes and Dry top. I usually use Healing Signet, but I was wondering if a burst heal would be better—especially in WvW.

I was thinking of Mending coupled with the trait that removes conditions when a Healing skill is used (whatever it’s called; it’s in the Power line). Healing Surge may work as I run Sword MH and that doesn’t always land in WvW—may as well use the adrenalin for healing.

Also, what about Defiant stance and/or antitoxin spray? They seem ok for WvW, not so much for PVE, but I’m not sure.

Anyway, thanks in advance for any responses. I’d like to change things up a bit from Healing Signet and wonder if it’s worthwhile.

Please consider a Necromancer rework

in Necromancer

Posted by: Mazdan.2071

Mazdan.2071

I know the necro is broken, but it has improved since launch. They’ve improved dagger, axe (yes axe was worse) and staff. They improved the traits; they were a lot worse than now. Deathshroud was improved, or at least you can interact with others now—downing foes in WvW or reviving allies.

Some skills have been nerfed, others improved, but overall I’m happier with the class than I was at launch. I think it’s heading in the right direction.

As far as MM builds or MM AI? I have yet to play a game that has good pet/minion AI. At least they fixed Death Magic traits so you don’t have to have minions summoned to gain more toughness—I hated being locked into that trait.

Anyway, I still enjoy the class and it seems this team is improving the game.

Mazdan.2071

I know the 4/0/6/4/0 MM build is pretty popular, but I tried a variant of it that seemed to work well too. It’s 4/0/6/1/3. I took the 3 in soul reaping to take the Vital Persistence trait for Death Shroud and for the one that give you spectral armor when your health dips.

I just find these Soul Reaping traits more useful than having your minions siphon health back to you since health siphoning sucks overall; why trait for it? Anyway it seems to work for me; Death Shroud lasts longer and that’s key for my playstyle.

Stun Breaks

in Necromancer

Posted by: Mazdan.2071

Mazdan.2071

I agree that Signet of the Locust should be a stunbreak, or maybe grant 3 sec. stability. I’d like both but that’s asking too much. Still I put it on my bar for he speed boost and it does grant me around 1000 point heal when I need it, but I’d like more out of it.

And to a poster above….shush about spectral walk, they may nerf that, then what do we have?

Also if mobility is a problem, spectral skills and traiting (in curses and soul reaping) for them can help with the pinballing we all know about. It takes away some dps, but adds durability, stun breaks and escapability.

Power Necro escapes?

Posted by: Mazdan.2071

Mazdan.2071

A good escape setup is Well of Power. I find this very useful in WvW, once I start pinballing (as necros tend to do) around from attacks. I pop this to break the stun and get on my feet, and it also helps my allies with condi’s.

Well of Power isn’t flashy but it does get you on your feet so you can escape and that’s an important step.

Power Necro Wep Q

Mazdan.2071

Axe is a minionmancer weapon and a good one at that. Dagger is a better power weapon and scepter is a better condition weapon, but the axe can do things that these can’t—like stack vulnerability for your minions/teammates. Also the cripple is better IMO. Dagger’s is clunky and scepter’s needs to be targeted. I don’t like using them much, but axe’s is smooth and is a great AOE—again teammates and minions will benefit and this keep melee types off of you.

Mazdan.2071

MM has been mentioned, but you can go dagger/warhorn, staff on swap, and use wells. We call this the well-o-mancer. Well of suffering should be one of your first utility skills. Also consume conditions is a good heal compared to what necros have to choose from; this may help in your survival.

Combat begins, drop the well (suffering), pop warhorn 5(locusts)and hack with dagger 1. Use warhorn 4 for an interrupt, and use Deathshroud in between heal cooldowns.

Some prefer focus OH with dagger, others like dual daggers. Both will work, but I prefer warhorn for the swiftness, melee damage and interrupt.

Hope this helps.

Fighting Mordrem?

Warhorn #5 and Well of Suffering should do significant damage along with the dagger cleave no matter what build/traits you have setup. Pop DS 4 and you should be an AOE damage machine. It works for me.

Otherwise run a MM build. They seem to do well in the Silverwastes. 4/x/6/4/x is the trait setup—all set to empower minions and axe is a good MH minion weapon. I always like warhorn OH, and staff on swap.

Hope this helps.

Axe vs. Other Single Target Weapons

in Necromancer

Posted by: Mazdan.2071

Mazdan.2071

What I gather is that axe is not a power weapon but a minionmancer weapon. For power or dps, use dagger; conditions use scepter, and so forth. The only area axe shows some effectiveness is with a MM build.

First immobilize on target (#3), stack vulnerability (AA), allow your minions to tear at target, then hit target with the #2 channel skill to down it. This does work well. Without minions, the axe doesn’t fare so well.

Improving final thrust(pvp)

Final thrust does need to be setup. OH shield bash does a good job of this and it does pretty good damage on its own. Also, you can run around while casting Final Thrust; you are not rooted in place. I tend to land it after a short chase, anticipating the kite, and heading them off—like a game within itself. Nonetheless it’s in a better place than it was at launch—the third part of the sword chain.

The reason many are mad is because the trait system didn’t need overhauling. In fact, if GW2 went back to what it was at launch, I think many would be happy.

If the devs are going to make changes; make smart changes. Change things that are broken. Spending umpteen man hours just to make things worse and stating you made changes are what get folks upset.

Do we need new skins for vendor trash? Glob of goop, spikes, and such? How many man hours went into that? ::shrug::

BTW I know most of the dev team have changed since launch. Things seem to be heading in a good direction. I like Silverwastes and this chapter of Living Story was great. Hopefully they can change traits back, and maybe the leveling up experience as well.

Signet of the Locust?

in Necromancer

Posted by: Mazdan.2071

Mazdan.2071

This is ok if you trait Bloodthirst and Signet Mastery. It does more damage, heals more, and grants might upon activation, plus the 25% passive run speed. I tend to run Signet of Spite as well, so the Signet mastery trait isn’t wasted, and I run MH dagger a lot so Bloodthirst can help Dagger #2.

This is not “ideal” but it seems serviceable and the traits help other skills I do use. Personally, I think warhorn and Spectal walk are the best ways to move around but it can be a bit busier. Sometimes I want to hit fewer buttons and not grab agro so Signet of Locust traited this way isn’t so bad.

Why does sword suck?

in Warrior

Posted by: Mazdan.2071

Mazdan.2071

Sword is not a DPS weapon like axe. If you participate in dungeons and want a 1 handed weapon, choose axe. Sword is fine for PVP and WVW though as a control, condition, utility, damage, DOT weapon. One thing sword has over other 1 handers is the #2 leap ability—very useful in PVP an WVW. MH axe/mace don’t offer this type of movement.

In dungeons and most PVE, DPS is king, so axe and GS are the go to weapons for warrior and probably always will be. Sword doesn’t “suck” per se. It does exactly what it is intended to do—everything ok, but in PVE that isn’t the order of the day.

My biggest problem is that they fix things that don’t need fixing. I’m sure they work hard, but they don’t work smart eg. working on things that really need it.

I’ve worked for several companies that went belly up. Before they did, changes were made so middle management could show they made changes. The changes didn’t help the company, they were just annoying crap someone with too much time and little know how came up with before the other shoe fell on all.

I get the same feeling with this game. I enjoy the community and gameplay, but they’re making it worse IMO, and they just don’t get it. Either they’re not fans, or they never played at launch….the game was better overall at launch. Hell do a reset to traits, leveling up and personal story and I think many would be happy.
