I like #2, #6, #7, #8, #11, #12, #14, #19, #23…but pretty much all hairstyles are decent I think..Except maybe #13 and #1
GW2 is a hack ‘n slash-game, since you can teleport from everywhere and you don’t lose anything by dying which means you don’t have to think when you play the game. And that’s boring. Cause if it’s tidious (spelling?) and punishing to die, you will make sure you don’t. That means you will plan more and concentrate more when you attack something.
I’m not particularly sure I understand how any of these proposed problems and suggested solutions have anything to do with “meaningful” gameplay. It’s a video game. It isn’t supposed to mean that much to you. When it does, that isn’t meaning. It’s an addiction. What it should be is just an escape from life’s woes.
As for your propositions, a few things stand out. (I admit, I skimmed it. If I want to read a book, I’ll pull out a book)
Life’s woes? Is life so bad that you go to GW2 to escape it? I am playing GW2 because it’s fun, just as I play soccer because it’s fun or go for a jog or talk with a friend or watch a movie.
Other than that I am surprised that the threadmaker share pretty much the same opinions as me. I have made a thread about that I think it’s too many waypoints in the game, removing the adventurous feeling and difficulty. I have also made a thread about that I think the rewards for the quests are weird/“broken” when you get gold reward for just being around.
I would:
Make human male feet bigger
Make human female proportions less Barbie-like
Slim down the norn male bodies
(maybe that’s not adding)
Add more masculine/old looking and normal/ugly looking faces for human male
Add a couple of black and asian looking faces for both female and male
Add one fat and some short/average looking body types
Maybe some more beard and hair styles
(these four are pretty obvious)
I like the young 20s faces, actually, the ones that are similar to the black-eyed face. There are like 3 or 4 that I would consider ridiculously young/“pretty” (especially the default face of eles and the default face on necros) and never use.
Even so, I agree with Stramatus in that:TL;DR—>Almost all are too “Perfect” looking, too westeren-media-standard-model-of-beauty looking.
I would like to have the option, even if I do like the younger looking ones, to have a “seasoned veteran of war” too, an older more masculine guy. But, most importantly, a more realistic face, not “ugly” as such i guess, but nearer to that end on the line than the ridiculously photogenic models.
I agree, and that goes for the body types aswell (even though I guess it is hard to program)
And, well, this is even worse in the female humans. They really all look so similar, so photoshopped, so barbie. At least it would be nice to have the option of removing all that make up.
Yes, they are really good looking…all of them, but I think the main problem for the female humans is their Barbie-proportions. They don’t look natural at all
And finally, the worst thing is seeing the humans as npcs. If player characters and story-relevant characters were like this, well, alright, but EVERY single random peasant girl or guy of the entire city is absolutely gorgeous and in his/her early 20s?? There is a 90% of 20 year olds in kryta and a couple of elderly 60+ men and women.
Yes, agree completely. They look too good. Kinda ruins the reality feeling of the game.
Side note: I think the (male) faces looks south european, like spanish, italian or greek etc.
At least that’s a good thing since most faces in videogames look like north europeans.
It’s weird that the human man and woman have the same max height but not the same min height.
The human male and female at max height in that chart I posted are both also using the bulkiest body build. The max male and female are both the biggest and bulkiest.
They’re roughly the same size.
The shortest human male and female for size comparison are also using the slimmest body type available.
The shortest female can be both slimmer and slightly shorter then the shortest and slimmest male.
If you fiddled with the body types on the female to make her a little more robust, she’d be about on par with the slimmest shortest male.
Aha, thanks for info!
It’s weird that the human man and woman have the same max height but not the same min height.
Oh, I found it. It’s from guildwarsinsider. I was slightly off.
http://www.guildwarsinsider.com/backend/wp-content/uploads/2012/07/GuildWars2Heights.png
I wonder if those numbers are true. They seem a little low with 6’4 as max height for humans…
(edited by Mejo.3198)
Well ofc…silly me. Obviously, you are right about that it would be hard finding mobs 2 levels above you when you already are lv 80 XD (which you are for the most part since leveling up is pretty easy in GW2).
Other things that would make the game better and more challenging (in my opinion obviously):
Slower and slower level progression as you gain more levels
Make the mobs tougher to fight, but respawn slower (so you don’t get some undead mob in your butt when you are about to turn your back and run along)
More heart quests with different types of…uhm, content. I know there already are alot of different types of things to do in quests but in reality, you are just pressing “F” when you are watering the cows or bringing in the crop or whatever. That is a cheap and braindead activity. It would be one thing if it required you to time pressing “F” but most of the time it doesn’t.
MOUNTS!!!!….no, just kidding
Good idea! I would like it. How about -3 levels down instead?
Hmmm…although, ArenaNet themselves suggests that players who desire a more challenging game should do quests 2-3 levels above their own level. Defeating higher leveled mobs also have a higher chance to drop good loot. So in a way, it already exists in the game, but I know what you mean.
I would rather have ArenaNet adding more veteran and silver elite mobs into the regular maps, for those who want tougher mobs and better drop. Would be great if the mobs have better AI aswell, like using block, dodge, interupt and different skills more often.
What I have most problem with, is the way which you can just rush into a group of mobs and start pressing random buttons without having to worry about dieing. Often it doesn’t require any active thinking while playing, and many mobs can be killed just by using auto-attack ONLY.
And if they remove some waypoints and make it so you can just teleport btw one waypoint to another, and teleport btw maps using ONLY larger waypoints, it would be better and would require the player to plan and prepare more before going out in the “world”.
Yes, I have also noticed that most people give their characters max height. Pretty boring. Everyone wants to be the tallest I guess.
My first human character was supposed to be a “copy” of myself and I am 6ft3 (or just under), which is a solid tall height. I assumed that max height for human males was 6ft7 (or maybe I read it somewhere on the internet) and just ticked it down 4 ticks (1 inch for every tick). I was kinda surprised that many characters were still taller/bigger but I guess I am more of role-player then others and notice these kind of stuff.
What bothers me more though is that they have the same proportions no matter the height, which makes short characters look like scaled down tall characters. That could be another reason most people go for the taller characters. The proportion of the male humans fit a tall or a very tall guy. In reality shorter persons generally only have shorter legs and arms, but I guess it’s too demanding having short, average and tall proportioned human models when it comes to armor and stuff.
I was thinking of doing a short thief by making the head bigger and picking the “Arnold” body type. Still didn’t look good :S XD
Well put. Nice and short…and I agree!
Maybe not like 12-year olds but most of them are in there late teens and 20s, yeah. But apart from Clint Eastwoods brother, you have Mr Jawline as a masculine face, even though he too looks a little too young. And Mr Average-chubby-guy-face is not that boyish either. But the rest I agree with. Hard to make a fiercesome warrior when they have perfect skin and full lips XD
How about removing all the russians from the game instead?
…
…
XD (joke)
Would be cool if there would be silver elite mobs outside of the dungeons aswell. With better drop then veterans (copper/bronze) but worse the champions (gold)
I kind of agree with the OP. Nothing wrong with norns being big but as a playable race they feel weirdly big compared to other races. And I have no problem with the humans being smaller then other races, but compared to the charr and especially norn they look ridiculous. They look like shrimps! It’s hard to grasp that the norns would have any problems taking down other races with that size.
I think it is a little too much, yes. They could have made it smaller…
STOP USING CAPS LOCK!!!!!!
They are not 7 feet tall at the tallest, more like 2 meters (6’7"), but I agree as everyone else probably does. The feet looks way too small.
“Look, I think we need more spies!” or something…(in CoF!) x 4000!
birds of a feather… how does that even make sense in your head?…
Birds of a feather what?
“Look, I think we need more spies!” or something…(in CoF!) x 4000!
You’ve heard it 4000 times and you’re still quoting it wrong?
Haha, yeah :P I have only done CoF 4-5 times and it was a long time since I did it so I don’t remember exactly.
The asura elementalist had the same problem before, when she/he said “Aaaarrghh!” everytime she/he cast a spell.
“Look, I think we need more spies!” or something…(in CoF!) x 4000!
Not a bad idea…even if I never have had a legendary weapon in GW2
The proportions of the human females are what makes reallife girls having body complex. They look like Barbie-dolls and I think Anet should be ashamed of themselves. I have really tried to make a realistic girl but I can’t.
You still progress, you should have close to no problem at all to defeat low level enemies. The downleveling is one of the best things with GW2. Makes it much more realistic. You gain levels and become more powerful but not so much that you can breeze through low level areas.
Sorry but living story is just a grind. Dragon bash showed that once again… grinding pinatas and firework. This is rather disappointing.
Festivals are always a grind or you think they should just give you a hat for being 10 min in the game watching the fireworks?
Nah, but would be great if, like I mentioned in a previous post, it didn’t just required you to run around and press “F”. It should at least require some kind of brain activity.
The game is already very violent as it is? You want child-soldiers too?
They should have made the both norn and charr smaller in size. Norn as a “race” is just…lack of imagination? But then again, dwarfs are just smaller humans aswell so I guess there’s a place for them.
Textwall alert!
More faces would be great, especially older and more rugged faces. Right now we have only faces of teens and 20s except for like 1 or max 2 of them.
Well, it doesn’t really matter if you are catching fireflies, helping with the crop or repairing a whatever. What you are actually doing is pressing “F”. Pressing the “F” button is no fun. It’s dull and get’s boring very fast.
And if pressing “F” fails, you can always just attack the mob and start mashing buttons because most mobs are on the buttonmashing level of difficulty which also is bad.
Maybe they can add so that you are actually doing something more when you are repairing a cog, like solving some sort of puzzle. At least something that get’s your brain working…
I take your point, but while I am pressing ‘F’ I do like to see how some of the bigger events play out as many have different outcomes.
Have you tried the Guild Puzzles? We unlocked them a few weeks ago and they are really good. If you don’t read up how to do them there is a lot to have fun with.
Just so you know, I am not saying the ideas are not funny. I am saying that it’s a waste of good ideas and content.
Who said normal quests should be on the autopilot level? Alot of the time you don’t have to plan or prepare anything before doing something and mostly you can just rush in head on and start pressing random buttons, no matter if you are fighting mobs or pressing “F” for repairing. Some quests are harder then others and the game is not super easy, but to me it’s still too easy.
And yes, I have done some jumping puzzles and those were entertaining, like many other things have been in this game (alot dungeons for example).
This comes up from time to time and there has definately been specific topics for it. I know because I started one once.
Regardless I 100% agree, obviously. There are so many useful little trinkets that exist int he world, not the least of which is food, but I never think about them because they’re hidden away in my inventory and the window is entirely too large with all my stuff to have open all the time. I personally would like to see a situation not unlike engineer or elementalist F1-4 on the opposite side with F5-8 for consumables. That seems like it would be the simplest and least obtrusive way to implement it.
Exactly, I almost always forget about them. Many of the consumables are really good too.
Well, it doesn’t really matter if you are catching fireflies, helping with the crop or repairing a whatever. What you are actually doing is pressing “F”. Pressing the “F” button is no fun. It’s dull and get’s boring very fast.

It would be great if there were 1-3 minislots added to the action bar, preferably above the right one. These could be used for consumables such as food or buffs.
(I know this have been suggested alot of times already but there hasn’t been a specific topic for it.)
Edit: (At least not that I have seen… :])
(edited by Mejo.3198)
We understand man, we’re just saying the mechanic already exists in the game so it wouldn’t be that hard for Anet to implement. Understand?
I never said it would be hard. And if it already exists in Southsun cove then great, but it would be even better if it existed in the “whole” game, at least for the humanoids.
I am an engineer and I almost never play with the kits. Sometimes I use my bomb or grenade kit but mostly I just use rocket boots, goat head-thing, violet/pink elixir and a turret. Plus the dogs or the last resort turrets
Edit: Not that you care :P So no idea why I wrote that
(edited by Mejo.3198)
It varies but mostly I just run in normally.
I think they should remove alot of the waypoints and only make it so you can teleport from one waypoint to another.
Edit: Not that that would ever happen.
(edited by Mejo.3198)
I play because I think it’s fun! Do something of this and do something of that etc.
Hard to put my finger on what’s so funny. I like doing quests and dungeons. As long as it’s challenging, it’s fun.
Btw: I have only played ~400 hours and that includes being AFK alot.
I agree, there are too many light clothes that make you look like a prostitute as a female.
Less [skin] is more!
Why are you guys going on and on about if warrior is good or not? This is out of topic. The post is about PvE and it being too easy and unrewarding.
I think he meant it would have lasted ALOT longer…
Are you high?
PvE people are getting mad because there is no Risk vs Reward in this game, and your suggestion is to make it even worse?
Is the challenge of beating a hard dungeon not reward enough, why punish casuals and bads who just want to look pretty?
What are you talking about? There is no hard dungeons in GW2, some are harder then others but none of them are particulary hard.
or
Teleport Wars 2
Buttonmash Wars 2
etc.
Ironic that you’re complaining about English.. just sayin.
Also, if you’re going to complain about things like lag and bugs – you need to give specific examples. A thread like this does just come off as being a bit of a whine rant without concrete and constructive feedback.
It’s like giving constructive feedback on your moms cooking. I don’t know how to cook but I can still tell that the meatloaf tastes good/mediocre/bad etc.
Like he said, not everyone’s into computers and whatever.
I know what you mean, like the guy posting is speaking for everyone or something…
But even if it’s a hack-n-slash game, it doesn’t mean it couldn’t be more difficult. Like I said, a little tweak here and there and it might actually be more challenging and fun to play.
I think it’s too many waypoints right now which makes you don’t care if you die or not. Dieing (or being defeated) should “hurt” a little so that you’ll be more careful and THINK the next time around.
Also, the mobs could in general be a little tougher and use a wider variety of attacks including spell interupts and dodges for example. Wouldn’t hurt, would it?
There isn’t that bad atm, but making them a little harder would improve the game for me.
Redbear: Thank you!
Silver reward should be the standard reward, bronze if you just contributed a little and gold only to a selected few who contributed alot. Can’t see what so bad about that.
You should avoid speaking for the entire PvE community about your elitist problems.
Elitist? Just because I don’t like blipping around with way too many waypoints all over the Gw2-world and buttonmash my keyboard or pressing “F” 400 times to “repair” (or whatever “F” does/do), doesn’t make me an elitist.
I just don’t think GW2 is challenging enough. You should at least be forced to make up some kind of plan in your head before rushing into battle = think of which buttons to press in which order cause I rarely do it right now.
And yes, I am talking mostly about normal quests, which shouldn’t be supereasy just because there’s dungeons available too. I think it’s fun to play alone and do normal quests and by making many quests too easy they kind of waste alot of content.
Think of it as raising the volume on the mp3-player. I am not saying I want max volume, I am saying I want the volume raised a little. And I don’t want to just press “F” when interacting with something, cause that’s just braindead to me.
Good point, but still…they could just fix it so if you are above the required level for the event, you should have to work harder to gain the same rank. What annoys me right now is that you get gold reward even if you come in late into the event and just swing around some, while others have been there from the start but still get the same reward. That’s unfair!
