While I was fighting in the queen’s events I wondered what get you playing the game. I come back and play for few moths at a time. Mainly because me core gourp of adventures have started playing other games.

For some it is the “End Game”, being the first the ultimate spoon of doom ect. For others they want to deck out their avatar(s) in gear that think looks cool (pirate anyone?) Still other want to check off every achievement there is no matter how small. And let us not forget about the crafters.

For me I love to explore and help out where I can. I love the public quest and being part of a big group and getting it done. I love going through a dungeon when no one in my group has done it before. So far GW2 has been my goto game for just overall fun.
Whether WvWvW or PVE most days I enjoy the game and I really enjoyed the Mad Kings Clock tower and was so excited when I finished it. Was one of the best/frustrating events there ever was.

So what gets you playing GW2?

Nope, wrong. With the latest update, you will soon find out that having more alts gives you fewer options to play in dungeon groups, as they will demand very specific classes/builds to maximize rewards versus time.

What I am reading here is if I have one Character and it happens not to be the Character you state I NEED TO HAVE for that dungeon then I have to make an alt so I can have that specific class/build.

Before the Patch
Uber Group finishes in X mins
Other Group finishes in X + Y Mins

After Patch
Uber Group finishes in X mins
Other Group finishes in X + Y Mins

you still need that very specific class/builds to maximize you reward vs time before and after the patch. What has changed except the rewards for alts?

Yeah it sucks for those that played a certain way and now it is gone but that is life in an MMO

I have had to switch to AOE because I see no mob in the event most the time. Although this morning I saw at least the Champion. still very few players and mobs are showing up. Makes it had to know when your group has moved on.

“In the open world, dungeons, PvP, and WvW, the new effects-culling system will slowly start reducing the detail of each effect in order to increase combat visibility when many effect types are overlapping.”

It seems almost worst to right now. Last night during the event. I could not see any of the monsters nor players. All I could see was the tag of the commanders head, the tag of the champion and magic and explosion effects. This morning was better I could see players and mobs until magic and explosion went off then players started to disappear.

I have yet to see the chest that drops from killing the champion also. I kinda run to the location on the mini map spamming my f key.

What they should do is attach a certain value on the gear you have equipped. Say, an exotic is worth than an uncommon. To make things easier, they should just sum up the totals of the gear and have it be displayable to other players, so people know who they can invite safely.

Invite Safely??? I have never been threaten or my toon kill by inviting. What has cause me headaches is players wanting to skip content or they think their way in the only way to do the dungeon. Some of my fastest dungeons have been inviting non-level 80 that have little knowledge of the path we are about to take.

My personal favorite was a PUG that wanted to do story mode on Sorrows Embraced, but 3 left because it was to hard. We got stuck at Kudo and because of the a bug we got stuck with the fire golem and the next golem out at once. .The reason the 3 left the group was we did not have the right classes and equipment. However we remaining two figured it out and finished the dungeon alone.

my point is if players put on their thinking hate they can figure out how to overcome any dungeon challenge with any build and equipment.

I hope they never put this feature in.

Yeah range buff would be greats and I wish it would be more like the mortar that are use to kill shatter. But I still find uses for it.

I am not sure what you are asking. If you have weaponmsith mastered ( to skill 400) I would assume you can look at all the weapon except bow and scepters and staff.s

However I would grind to 80 and get an exotic weapon

I was figuring it would probably end up being for what I wanted a… Ranger, Thief, or a Warrior. I just was afraid I would get laughed out of a group if I came in as a warrior and didn’t go melee during a dungeon.

I will laugh at anyone who does not adjust their skills for the group and dungeon they are in. However that said I have muddle through to the end in every group I was in regardless of build and weapon. Some runs just go smoother then others.

I know you said you do not like mask, however I cant remember what dungeon has it but there is a ninja like hood and mask. I would suggest you go to the heart of the myst and preview all the gear there. It will let you preview it even if you do not have it in your PVP vault

Side note, but as I recall, the mortar doesn’t require LoS, but it DOES require an open firing arc. So many times I’ve fired my shells straight into the ceiling…

mmmm I do . Just one of my uses is that I love using my mortar when fighting dragons. I love it against Tequatl the Sunless I never get feared and I am shooting the whole time until he is dead.

I like rocket boots and use them well. the rocket kick (tool belt skill) does pretty good damages. However I do agree there are to many skills that we have to hinder us as much as it hinders our target and that kinda sucks

Is it a bug in PVE or PVP. I kinda like the fact in PVE I can just keep clicking it to keep my speed up at +33%. I can run forever with it

Level again and again. every time you level from 80-81 an angel gets its wings and you get a skill point.

I am not sure those passive do what you think. I have not tested an elemental so I do not know that exactly but as and eng I have 10% when using unarm kit like med it and boot that are suppose to give my double speed. Also I have perma swiftness and the fastest I ever have been able to go is 33% This was tested when i run with a warrior and his banner we run side by side no matter what skills I use.

So there could be a a cap or there is a bug with my skill.

What class is best for ignoring trashmobs in orr?

Other than the mobs that throw that axe and pulls you toward them I can just run through them. I am just a poor little ol’ engineer with perma swiftness and a healing kit

I play an Eng and Guardian. When farming in orr you just have to be aware of what is around you and that there will be many time you cannot use skills that vault you in a direction because you will aggro mobs.

For example I do not use my rifle on my eng in orr because there are to many skills that will land me or my mob in aggro zone and I will be fighting more then I expected.

I notice they groups that “NEED” a certain class like a guardian are group that just do not work together. No one in the group caring what anyone is doing just if its red its dead mentality. I love getting in groups where everyone knows what they are doing and adjust to the situation. it does not matter the class.

So play your thief if you enjoy it. as I would gladly go farming in or with you. I am certain we would have zero issues once we get a feel for each others style.

A staff elementalist in power/precision in sPvP? Huh… What?!

That particular combo will not have much of a chance against most of the lower echelon classes (even if well played), let alone thieves.

I was thinking the exact same thing. I’m going to give the player the benefit of the doubt and say you are making her sound worse than she is because you don’t know ele’s very well.

first off tell her not to stay in 1 attunement

If her answer is “why?” “Really?” “but I like fire more!” or anything other than “Of course I don’t stay in fire only.” then you need to stop immediately and direct her to the ele boards.

secondly glass cannons get owned by glass cannons. that’s what they do. and thieves are the best glass cannons. So… yea… go figure. If she is running a glass cannon ele she will have a hard time with thieves period.

yeah I cannot say how bad it was as I was in another match and we were on voice so all I heard was the kittening in my ears on how BS the thiefs were.

Sadely no I do not have their stats because they were having an off night and you know how we all get in those moods where the world sucks.

It does seem you would have to change attunement to get the CC you need. I just wanted to make sure there was not a major flaw in designed that stated Thief always wins against elementalist because I know they mess me up from time to time.

I will have to get them to come here and ask and show you their build.

yeah the explosive line has always left me with more questions than answers.

With Incendiary Powder I have never seen more than one burning and that was with coated bullets and a 93% crit rate.

Also does anyone know if Explosive Powder works with the pistol auto attack explosive bullets or is that only for bombs and/or grenades?

Why is grenadier underwater so overnerfed and worse than a speargun?

Sure we need a fix here and there but I think there is level of skill needed to play an engineer well.

For example I have been leveling a thief and there are time I just suck at it. it is not my type of play style. That does not mean the thief is broken. The eng is more my style. Switching out kits, maximizing our combo fields and just having the right tool for the job is what I love about this class.

Really? because I can take an Eng using grenades even if I am not prepared. However if a thief gets me flat footed. I am dead in less than 5 secs.

Sure grenades are nice but they are far from the be all end all. Put them in the hand of a skillful player they are awesome. However put stealth in the hands of a skillful player and they are awesome. Put either of these in a average player they are average.

In the end Skill is greater than DPS.

Ok I have never played a Elemenalist. I play an lvl 80 Eng.

In sPVP our guild elementalist (lvl 80) was getting stomped by a thief. The Elementalist is speced in power and precision and uses a staff and is attuned to fire. I was reading the wiki to try and give her some general tips on how to stop the thief unloading then vanishing about every 3-4 secs until the caster is dead move, but I I did not notice to many stuns/hold/knockdowns ect..

So how would you take down in sPVP a tief that attacks from stealth vanishes, waits 3 secs and repeats? I know what I can and have done as an Eng but I have no clue how to help them with the elementalist because it does not appear to be a simple class, instead it seems to be a class full of subtlety.

Even if you had the holy trinity GW2 dungeons are messy until you have a clue as to what to do. One of the smoothest dungeons run I ever had was one with 3 eng 1 warrior and a thief.

As you do more you get more understanding how your skills work against boss X. you learn when you should use your skill and when to change to another skill set. For example the spider in AC. Man her poison sucks. So when I go in I switch you condition clearing with the exlir gun. it is my self imposed job to clear conditions and drop turrets that will aggro the spider. Later on I will switch to DPS to clear the mounds ASAP.

Changing out your skill sets is the beauty of the game.

I have 2 major pet peeves

First is when no one goes to pull even after I ask and target the one we should pull .So I as an eng go to pull (shudder) that is when the thief and ranger decide to AOE or pull the wrong one; you know the one in the back instead of the one in front.

Second is players that refuse to switch to skill that will better help the group because their DPS will go down. Oh well such is the life in a PUG

It is their group, they can have who ever they want. The main reason I like to have level 80s in my group is they generally have a clue.

However my group will take who ever we can get. Just last not going through CM (the manor in queensdale) We took a level 50 and level 47. The pulls were horrible as one of them just did not have a clue how to play and the other did not really know the dungeon.

Nevertheless I got through only 2 times I was dead dead as compared to being downed.

So you get in the groups you get in.

I kept reading complaint that the Asuras have it tough. so I took my little lvl 10 asura necro there. I made it up in about 30 mins.

I think part of the problem is the smaller toons get distracted by not being able to see yourself and not knowing the course. I knew the course so I just had to get through the first part and I was home free.

I did find the Asura had an easier time and jumping when compared to my norn.

Great puzzle I have fun every time I do it.

Ok I have leveled an eng to 80 and have been there a bit. I am currently playing a ranger and necro trying to which one will be next. But of which are around 10. Sooooo,

I was looking at the necro’s weapon choices and notice that many of the skills put the necro in harms way 600 meters or less. Given the fact the eng forums have/had ton of complaints that the eng is squishy and forced in the melee range (I do not feel this way FYI) how does a necro fair having to be even close to the danger?

Really repair cost and waypoints?? my repair at most is 11 silver and that is when everything is red. That only happens in the dungeon.

In PVE I rarely go down, in fact over the last 4 days my repair cost have been 0 and my casual play style got me 3 gold and change. As for waypoint travel the most I have spent is around 3s50c. I can make that back in 2 or 3 green items or 1 gold. It is not hard to make money.

Now all that said at level 9 I have know idea as money was never an issue with me and I waypoint everywhere. Time is money and if I am wasting 2 mins traveling to an area instead of being there and kill for an extra 2 mins I will waypoint there.

Hmm, i never realized this… so with 2 Earth sigils, you only have a total of 84% chance to proc a bleed on crit?? Has anyone done some hardcore testing on this?? …

Overall it is hard to do testing without a good combat log. So it is a best guess for me.

First off I love the grenades. almost all my dungeon general setup includes grenades.

Pure damage and the ability to throw over obstacles the grenades have. However I have found a few areas in dungeons where grenades suck to have.The location have low ceilings so if you are not up close and personal your grenades often hit the ceiling.

Last time I check the healing and condition cleansing factor of the grenade is nil . So the elixir rifle or elixirs are the way to go there. Also I can CC a single target better with a rifle and net turret.

Any know how stacking sigil math works

If you ask 10 eng what to do you will get at least 15 answers. For me I ran around with rifle and gadgets and I did that at 80 for the CC. I then switch to pistol and shield and changed out my build.

I use grenade gadgets and turrets now and I am having a blast literary.

“Sigils that have a chance to trigger on critical hits stack their chance percentages multiplicatively, not additively. For example, two major Sigils of Fire, which each have a 20% chance to trigger on critical hit, will have a 36% chance to trigger, not 40%.”

I know I rusty on my math but I do not understand how two 20% sigils get to 36%. How do you get to that number?

For me I have solo just as well with rifle and I do with pistol and shield. The main thing I do for dungeon is select the gear that will help the most. For example I am going against a boss that is mid to close range and move faster then me, I wil break out my net turret, elixir gun and rifle for CC. If I am going against a lot of trash mobs I break out the flame thrower.
