[BWE2] Events are boooooooring

NetherDiver.6079

If you’re looking for non combat events, Adventures are for you. Sucks that they aren’t in this BWE.

I enjoy the story, the variety, and the way events take you across the map. I wouldn’t mind them taking a few minutes to complete if the mobs we’re fighting had more interesting behavior. ANet talks about wanting us to use all our abilities, right now these events are just a small step above events from the original game, and I’m still just pressing 1 and occasionally using CC and dodging.

Doesn’t seem quite worth it, but it is unfinished right now. Hard to tell how good a movie is by watching the first 10 minutes.

I think it’s funny that TheBlackLeech sounds so bitter about HoT, but decided to pre-purchase it anyway despite claiming to know how little there is in the expansion. Fanboy in troll’s clothing.

Agreed. The same events also repeat so you’ve seen everything after the first few hours. Would definitely love to see more events.

You should get them after every 2 events or so. Doing JPs and mini dungeons also works. It’s not very obvious, but the loot just drops into your inventory. Check the bottom right of your screen after every event to make sure.

Dynamic Events in HoT and Repetition

I’m sure the progress bar in the meta event UI will mean something in the final product. That and the eventual implementation of rewards will make doing these events more compelling. But I feel like that stuff’s a nice bonus, the real important aspect is if these events are fun to do for more than an hour or two.

Some of them tend to last a little too long, yeah. Or rather, that it’s the same thing going on for 5 minutes and nothing to break up the action. I almost feel like the defense events could use tougher mobs, so that defending a point isn’t just going through the motions for 5 minutes.

I understand that VB is incomplete and that this specific feedback could be obsolete by the time HoT comes out. My concern with the dynamic events in HoT (and for the game in general) is repetition. I fear that we’re going to be seeing the same events repeat very quickly, and I’ve gained enough mastery levels where each event gives me about 5% of the exp needed to progress.

I enjoyed the Lord Faren escort quest, it had some funny dialogue and the characters were portrayed well. We reached the top of the plateau with the Wyvern and killed it. Then I ran off and tried to reach a mastery point nearby. I got it about 15 minutes later, walked away and noticed that the Lord Faren chain had restarted and I very quickly started to feel the “grind”.

I was compelled to do it again even though I had all ready done it. I didn’t want to walk away and do something different, because I didn’t want to spend 5 minutes looking for another event when I could just stay and earn exp faster.

I did eventually walk away and explore other parts of the map, but I even still, I was seeing the same events repeat after an hour or two. Again, I understand that this may not even be an issue when the full map is revealed.

Variety is even more important now because of the reintroduction of having to earn exp again. The exp curve really REALLY slows down, and for good reason. It would be nice to see more ways to earn exp like there is in the old vanilla zones. I can’t remember if mastery points give exp, but I don’t remember getting any exp from earning medals in adventures.

I enjoy the content in the beta and all this may seem like an obvious request, but I’m hoping that there’s much more in quantity and in terms of variety of things to do.

I concur with the OP, a more reasonable item that can be obtained through natural gameplay should be used instead.

I suggest charged lodestones for Quip to explain the glowing of the weapon, and charged lodestones in addition to silver doubloons to explain the silvery glowy nature of The Moot.

Boxes of fun can be obtained during natural gameplay. You get them guaranteed in AP chests for every 1K achievement points. And an RNG chance from regular AP chests.

“Elite” was probably a poor word choice on ANet’s part. There’s nothing ‘better’ about the new trait line, except that it allows use of a new weapon. It’s more of an ‘extra’ or ‘bonus’ trait line rather than an ‘elite’ one.

Elite Specialization sounds better than Extra Specialization or Bonus Specialization or Alternate Specialization.

IGN Tweet & Core Game = F2P - what does this mean? [unconfirmed]

NetherDiver.6079

There’s really nothing to worry about. Regardless of if it’s a full F2P client or simply a free trial, either way it’s going to be severely restricted. ArenaNet has already had to deal with some of the problems that free accounts will cause, so it’s ridiculous to think that they would intentionally undo that. WvW for example was once abused by free transfers. They’re not going to repeat that with free accounts, which would be far easier to abuse.

If they do end up implementing a F2P client without certain restrictions however, it’ll be great to exploit. The personal loot system simply makes it far too easy. Simply AFK world bosses with several accounts. Even if free clients can’t trade, you can simply amass wealth, upgrade the account, dump your earnings, then request a refund (30 day refund policy).

Some people that are freaking out about gold seller spam and toxic behavior are being a little silly. Lots of F2P games have chat/trading restrictions.

Its a new PvP game type that will be thrown out by ANET and forgotten about like Courtyard and Spirit Watch.

Courtyard was a bonus feature that was never meant to be heavily supported. And people were clamoring for new game modes, so they’re focusing on that instead.

I think Stronghold is a lot more fun than Conquest, but before the announcement of Leagues, I saw no reason to keep playing it.

A question to our community at large

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: NetherDiver.6079

NetherDiver.6079

No matter what you do to stats, people are going to find a build and a way of doing things that is the most efficient. Your community will always be split between the ones that want to do things efficiently, and the ones that don’t really care.

There’s no way to get rid of that split, and there’s all ready a system in place to ensure that both types of players can coexist and that’s the LFG tool. Make a group with your own requirements.

The REAL problem are people who like to troll, who join groups that weren’t intended for them just to cause havoc. Otherwise, you can all ready play however you like, and create groups to attract people with the same mindset.

On fire cause of a sale and feature announcements? Want to know what would make GW2 really “on fire?”

  1. make dungeon, champ farming, world bosses, WvW roaming, and SPvP rewards the same as Silverwastes so people can actually choose what they want to do endgame.
  2. bring good rewards back to Obsidian Sanctum, and make it cross server like EotM
  3. Bring back Raid on the Capricorn and balance underwater combat for PvP, instead of this weird PvP/PvE mashup with the new SPvP map…

The OP was just referring to the news, not the entire state of the game.

The problem wasn’t the lack of an expansion, it was that the LS content was temporary. Huge amounts of time and resources was put into developing content that isn’t in the game any more.

ANet have been riding on how awesome the base game was for three years. But this drought is seriously problematic, especially for small/medium guilds trying to keep the members who haven’t got bored and moved on together and interested.

The entirety of season 2 was permanent, save for a few environmental things. We still wanted an expansion.

You can’t just waltz into VB with a glass cannon build, mash 1, and expect to have an easy time. But let’s be honest here, these mobs aren’t that tough. You’ve had levels 1 – 80 to breeze through the game, it’s time to put all those skills to (some) use. Also consider that these events will be massively zerged during release and the difficulty drops down even lower.

Overall Feel of The Beta

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: NetherDiver.6079

NetherDiver.6079

The difficulty teaches you to run from fights you can’t beat, consider your build choices, and makes more abilities useful.

There were mobs that had an attack that repeatedly hit you as it blinked all around you and would burst you down very quickly. This made me consider wanting to have protection, blinds, interrupts, etc, things that you would never want in the base game.

These mobs aren’t hard to fight, but it does require you to step out of the “press-1 zerker gear dodge every 20 seconds” mindset. Also consider these event and mobs will get zerged to all hell when HoT launches, significantly trivializing the difficulty.

99% of the current game lacks challenge or engagement and there’s a subset of the community that wants challenge and hasn’t been given that in ages.

[beta] How does mastery progression feel?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: NetherDiver.6079

NetherDiver.6079

I understand that this content is incomplete right now. The speed is fine, though initially it can be a bit of a hassle trying to find events to do without your glider. It’s also a lot tedious now with half of VB events being bugged.

If it is expected of us to stay in one area and farm multiple masteries, I hope they add more unique events to do. Even without the bugged events, you’ll run into the same events over and over after a couple of hours.

VB adventures only playable during the day?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: NetherDiver.6079

NetherDiver.6079

I wasn’t sure if this was a bug or not, it’s kind of a bummer if that is intentional. I tried to do an adventure at night and it said something like “This hasn’t been unlocked”, even though I’ve done the necessary events to unlock them. I liked that they initially presented Adventures as “on demand content” – content that you can do without having to wait for event timers and stuff like that.

If these adventures are only playable during the day, you’d have to wait half an hour or so (not sure how long the day/night cycle phases last) before you could get a shot at placing higher in those leaderboards. This kind of defeats the purpose of what Adventures were made for.

Also another somewhat random feedback, it’s be nice to receive some exp the first time you acquire a medal (bronze/silver/gold). Bronze doesn’t give you any exp, but I’m not sure if getting gold/silver does. I haven’t been able to get any of the higher medals yet.

VB too aimless

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: NetherDiver.6079

NetherDiver.6079

I feel this too, but it might also be due to the fact that we get such a small part of the map. I feel like I’m doing a lot of repeated events in order to get the exp needed for masteries, which gets dull after a while.

I have full faith however that once we get the full map(s) it’ll feel a lot better as we’ll have more to do.

I’m gonna echo what you’re saying. It feels repetitive at the moment but it’s obviously incomplete. It’s even worse when half the events are bugged. I’d love to see more events and more variation. It’s tough when starting off, because you don’t have your movement masteries and it can be annoying wandering around trying to find an event to do.

Beta Weekend Feedback

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: NetherDiver.6079

NetherDiver.6079

I’ve played a few hours so far. The thing that sticks out to me the most is the repetition and tedium when working on masteries. I understand that we only have 25% of the map, that not everything is complete, and that events can bug out.

But man. During the day it’s hard to find any events to do. And when night comes I found myself doing the same escort and defend missions. I could’ve branched out and went to another area of the map, but navigating the map is tough when I haven’t unlocked my gliding. It was easier to stay in that corner of the map to farm the xp.

I would like to see more event variation and more events in general in one area, rather than 1 defense event and 1 escort event that repeat or 1 defense event that ends and then nothing. This way, earning the initial XP to unlock the movement abilities doesn’t get repetitive immediately. Sometimes it was difficult to even find an event running.

According to the wiki there are 5 tiers of Rescue Bags. I’ve gotten up to Tier 4 in terms of completion (1000 citizens saved pre hotfix patch) and I only ever get the Standard Citizen’s Bags. Is this a bug?

If not, some people find that getting one or two extra Standard Citizens Bags isn’t really worth going for the extra tier. People would be more incentivized to strive for higher tiers if we got better bags, assuming that higher tier bags give more than just an heirloom and more blades/belongings.

Well tier 5 just gave more heirlooms, blades, belongings and some dragonite.

Yeah, this doesn’t seem right.

Nope, those are exactly what you should have been expecting. Are you new to this game?

Since I left out the numbers it was something like 5 heirlooms, 10 blades, 10 belongings and 12 dragonite, 4 salvage items. Got a glacial core from salvaging those 4 and a bunch of mithril ore.

A few got stuff like celestial recipe sheets or the experimental chili recipe. One of the tiers gave me 5 dragon coffers the other day. I think that was a tier 3. I am not sure who would be desperate enough for those to try to get to tier 5.

The reward systems in other parts of the game though not perfect, seem fine to me. To each his own.

People want to get to tier 5 because actually getting it is interesting and requires a bit more coordination than usual, and right now it doesn’t seem worth it for most people. Because there are rewards documented on the wiki that most people haven’t ever seen leads me to believe that there’s a bug in the rewards.

Is it hard to catch up with a new character?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

NetherDiver.6079

Most of the new content coming out can be accessible by lower levels, or allow lower levels to be “upscaled” to level 80. You can jump right into Escape From Lion’s Arch in a level 2 character. So in terms of playable content, there’s hardly any catching up.

You’re not missing out on much content for not having BiS gear. Next best gear is easy to get, and is 10% less effective than BiS gear. If you start your own parties for dungeons, you won’t get kicked for not having BiS gear. It’s impossible to kick someone out of an open world event, so you won’t get kicked for not having BiS there either.

This might be an issue for you if you are hardcore into WvW and want to be at your peak potential, though some can argue that you’ll hardly be in a situation where that 10% stat boost is what cost you a fight. Unless you’re 1v1-ing someone with FULL ascended gear, but classes aren’t balanced for 1v1 fights any way.

How do you get pugs to work with you?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Simple step by step instructions. Repetition of instruction. Talking about what builds people should have in addition to the mechanics themselves. Delegating tasks.

The most important rule is realizing that not everyone learns at the same pace. Expect to fail, but accept that it’s a part of the learning process. You’re going to have to deal with people you don’t want to deal with, inside and even outside of the game. But if you’re stuck with those people it’s in everyone’s best interest that you work together and not against each other.
