If you explore every poi, vista, SP, heart in the zone, DE at least once, do your story mission, craft and gather everything, there’s no reason you should be behind. Gathering and crafting to level is boring if that’s all you do, obviously, but if you’re doing everything else, you should not have a problem.

Hoping it’s an endless dungeon. Would be cool to have 3 paths, each path having its own set of enemies.

Pretty sure they were clear about the lack of a necessary gear grind. I can’t say I know that first hand since I didn’t really follow GW2 closely pre release. You may or may not associate that with “end game” but this game has a ton of content at 80. Whether or not they’re fun for everyone and whether or not they’re rewarding enough is questionable. If you are looking for that gear grind, there’s a ton of other gear grind RPG’s out there.

A lot of people knew that there wasn’t going to be gear grind, but expected that ArenaNet would come up with an alternative. Instead, we now have a gaping hole where classic MMO endgame used to be, and somehow some people believe that approach is “better”. Completely removing a feature isn’t “better”. Saying “the whole game is endgame” is a cop-out. You can explore in every MMO ever made. You can craft in almost every one as well. You can get 100% Quest Completion in every MMO. But those are always side-challenges, and there is always a main challenge, the endgame – raiding, guild/faction politics (like EVE), alternative character progression systems (such as planar attunement in Rift), etc etc. GW2 has none of that.

“The whole game is endgame” isn’t a cop out, it’s just the way it is. Explorable mode dungeons start at 30, and once you hit 80, you’re still doing explorable mode dungeons. Some agree with that and some don’t, but I think the issue here is the lack of proper rewards. People want to feel like what their spending time on is worthwhile, hence many people like endgame gear grinds.

Yes you can explore in every other MMO, but not every other MMO explicitly rewards you and encourages you to explore specific points on the map.

From my perspective the “main” endgame are Dungeons. They were designed to be the most difficult content. I’d love to see GW2’s equivalent of raiding, and plenty of the dungeon designs and mechanics are questionable, but that’s your “main” endgame.

Their current endgame model is lacking, that’s for sure, and I hope they figure out how to refine it soon. End level character progression isn’t the only answer to endgame though, ANet just needs to figure out how to make the existing content more rewarding.

I think what people are asking for is a series of difficult PvP content pieces, preferably dungeons, with a formidable requirement to participate. Gear just happens to be the easiest way to set milestones on an individual player basis, which is why so many developers use the gear system.

PvP is fun (a lot of fun imo) but it’s also the cheap way out for the dev because they don’t need to add new content for the game’s challenge to persist. Since GW2 has no sub, I kind of think that’s fair.

However, a lot of people love raiding. Many of my best MMO experiences are based around endgame and for me, that’s where the real meat of the genre is. It’s coming together with circa 19 other people and playing as a tightly knit team.

ANet needs to get more of that going for the 80 folks.

I’d love to see a more organized “raid” encounter.

However, I like that my content isn’t gated by gear requirements. I don’t have to run CoE for a while for HotW to unlock, and then for Arah to unlock. I can run them on my own terms and I don’t have to run encounters I don’t want to, thus getting rid of “inflated” and unnecessary game time.

That’s not to say I don’t enjoy that, I do, but I’ll play WoW for that type of endgame. I don’t mind that i don’t have to play GW2 for hours on end to progress in the late game.

Idk, I like my story quests and making choices. I like exploring and taking screencaps of beautiful scenery. I like jumping into WvW and feeling a grand sense of battle. Overall I enjoying being a part of the world with the character I’ve developed, and I know plenty of others who aren’t in it for the gear grind. People who are in it for that have either left or stopped playing anyway.

Again with assumptions. First off, to the boded statement….THEY ARE JUST THINGS TO DO. It is not ‘end-game’.

Secondly, WoW had nothing to do with ‘end-game’ mentalities. Would you really believe WoW was NOT the first MMO???? gasp the horror….

Just because your idea of end-game and mine do not mesh does not mean that people do not rise to the top and then realize that there is nothing to do. The things they envisioned on doing once they hit 80 became a sad disappointing reality to many a player.

Just because you haven’t realized the things I have doesn’t mean that you ever will. Perhaps your satisfied with this model, currently, but read this:

MANY PEOPLE WERE WHEN THE GAME RELEASED!!! SO many bought into this, thinking that A.Net’s vision was going to revolutionize the MMO industry. We were promised teh nectar of the Gods, and got grape juice instead. As for someone who’se never had grape juice, this might be the end all of end and the bestest thing on the planet, but us adults are going…where’s my wine???

Classic MMORPG Quest Type / i miss it in GW 2

I just miss the classic type of quests.

> Kill NPC XYZ
> Kill 20 Rats
> Collect 10 Roots of XXXX

You still get those in DE’s and Hearts.

> Epic quest line
> Small Sidequests

Main Story and Event Chains.

The dynamic Quest system is good but in addition i miss the old Quest system.

I miss to have a classic “To do List” when i log into the game.

I would love to have 10-20 Quests to finish when i log in instead of roaming around looking for Events in form of Circles on the map.

Thank you
Andrew

You have a to do list, it’s just on your map in the form of blank hearts.

I like the end game, just wish there were more rewards (skins/ranks), and that current rewards actually did something (badges don’t get me anything I actually want, karma is only really useful for Legendaries or temple gear).

WvW
SPvP
3 world bosses
2 80 zones
-Straight up mob farming
-Dynamic event farming
-Resource farming
25 explorable mode paths
Crafting
Many unique achievements

I love the variety of the end game in this. I just wish they had more rewards. Although, I think people would be more excited if they knew about the Mystic Forge weapons that—in some cases—looking nearly as flashy as Legendaries. Honestly, they almost have too much endgame—it can be hard to get a specific dungeon party!

Forgot about the Mystic Weapons. I’d still prefer a halfway point between Exotic gear and Legendary gear.

If you count the temple bosses in Orr, there are more than 3 world bosses.

We definitely need more armor skins, I was hoping that each Orrian temple had a different armor set. Also, chests need to drop mini pets/crafting materials/mounts (seriously)

They really should give them their own classification. They really are, for all intents and purposes, half way between exotic and legendary. They’re extremely difficult to get (the really cool ones at least) but very possible compared to Legendaries.

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Mystic_Claymore

50 SP’s and 30 Mystic Coins aren’t too time consuming to get. Compared to all the stuff you need for a legendary anyway.

Well, you asked what was GW2 “endgame” content. Lande pointed a few options you could do after reaching 80 / finishing main story / getting full exotic gear (and there are more, like crafting, JP, titles / achievements, activities). Just because you dont like the content, doesnt mean its not there.

PvP isn’t end game content. Most PvE’ers don’t want to PvP. Other than that, I don’t think “playing the tp,” “farming,” “achievements” and “activities (?)” are content that people would bother doing. They definitely wouldn’t keep me entertained for over an hour.

As for exploring after 100% world completion, I assume you’re trolling?

Again: “Just because you dont like the content, doesnt mean its not there.”

Achievements and farming dont keep you entertained? Really? Coming from a person with a “Double GWAMM. GW1 Veteran. Been There. Done That.” sign thats pretty shocking.

GW1 had me entertained for over 8000 hours. I stopped actively playing GW2 after 100% world completion (I was bored while doing it, but whatever, I wanted to give the game a chance) Don’t compare GW2 to GW1. They’re not even the slightest bit similar.

GW2’s “achievements” and “farming” don’t come close to how fun and rewarding GW1 was.

Unless you can give me some fun examples of achievements or farming in GW2? I would love to hear it.

You still dont get what Im trying to say. All I said is that theres a lot of content in the game, as an answer to the fallacy being spread out that “theres nothing to do after reaching 80 and get geared up”.

Whether this content is good or bad, fun or boring, its not the point of what I said. And its a complete different topic that Im not willing to discuss, since its totally subjective and Im not here to convince anyone that what I like is the right thing. How can I possibly know what is interesting to you?

So, you can say that you dont like the content in the game, for whatever reasons you may have. But saying that theres no content is a lie, plain and simple.

I assumed content should be fun, my bad. So there is content but it is boring. You win.

To each his own. I like dungeons, I like doing DE’s, I like jumping puzzles and mini dungeons. Someone mentioned that the only issue are the rewards, and I’ll second that.

I’d like jumping puzzles too if the camera wasn’t a train wreck and the platforming was actually precise, which it isn’t. You slide off of edges, the camera goes haywire. It makes what should be fun, kind of frustrating. And DEs are fun, while leveling. At 80, its just a mindless grind. NOT fun anymore. Without decent rewards everything in a MMO becomes a tedious question of “why am I doing this?”. A dungeon is no longer hard once you know thew few nuances, and the bosses certainly aren’t tough. They just have too many Hps. Then you’re just farming. I’ve farmed in other MMOs, but at least I was getting gear that actually improved my stats in a significant way, so that I wanted them and needed them. Here, its just for looks, which isn’t so exciting, since you can see yourself in the preview window all dressed up.

Yeah the camera’s really bad (I’m a Charr), and sliding off edges can be remedied by mashing on the spacebar. Not elegant, but gets it done.

I personally love the temple DE’s in Orr. But yes, the rewards are very lacking. Once you have your karma gear (with the right stats) you’re done (unless you want a million shards for your legendary. The temple aura thing is a neat idea, but most people don’t want to bother with taking a temple JUST to get rid of the aura. Temple becomes contested in an hour anyway.

I haven’t done most of the explorables yet, been farming AC and CM for the longest time. They really need to tone down the HP of bosses, but as for dungeon rewards, I like collecting armor pieces.

Having an end level gear grind just limits your access to content and draws out your game time. There’s nothing wrong with that, and ANet’s rewards system atm sucks balls, but I’d rather have them figure out an alternate way of providing rewards rather than give us a treadmill. I haven’t played GW1 to its endgame, but people mention that GW1’s endgame is superior to GW2 and there’s no gear treadmill. I still play WoW, I’ll play that when I want my gear grind itch. Or D3/Torchlight.

I feel like your expectations are blown out of proportion. What RPG doesn’t provide questing, dungeons, and exploration for the entirety of its gameplay experience? Yeah, that’s basically all you do up to 80 (unless you PvP), but isn’t that the point? The scenery changes, the story changes, the objectives change, but you’re still playing an MMORPG from start to end.

That was by far the most decent reply of anything.

You acknowledge that I didn’t like the game (in its current permeatation) and that I wasn’t just some gear driven junk-a-holic.

THanks. Honestly, that was the best reply I have ever seen. Kudos to you sir/ma’am.

It’s silly when people either only LOVE or HATE this game and if you’re on the other side you’re not worth listening to. This game’s got a lot of issues. Bots, bugged DE’s, unrewarding rewards, bugged Dungeons, punishing and frustrating mechanics like the Risen’s CC and negative statue effects in Orr. Some days I log in and I log back out, but I stick around because it’s different, and I see where they’re going with it, they haven’t gotten there yet, but all new ideas need time to refine.

People are way too used to gear treadmills. So ingrained because they never played anything other than that one type of game.

There is an endgame in GW2, and it’s fantastic.

Care to explain what it is? I have 100% world completion and can’t name anything else to do.

WvW, sPvP, alts, working on your legendary, playing the Trading Post, farming, dungeons, exploring further (even at 100% there is still a lot to find in the world, as I was surprised to find out).

The fantastic thing about GW2 is you have so many things you can do every time you log in. The only thing this game is missing would be the gear treadmill, which to many people is a great thing.

WvW…check, did that, got the T-shirt
sPvP/tPvP…check, did that too
working on my legendary….was excited, then I learned what a big LET DOWN it was, then I didn’t bother pumping 100’s of gold worth of things into a lottery machine. I can go to Vegas and actually get something worthwhile.
playing the TP…check, did that, made my money…got bored of this, because let’s face it, what am I spending my gold on?? Legendary? Nope…exotics??? nope…uhm……
farming dungeons….did my fair share of them, and quite personally, I don’t like the dengeon skins…
100% world completion….I actually have the stomach to choke down doing yet ‘another’ heart, or another event, or another vista, or skill point…rolls eyes

Nope, can’t do it. I’m done.

I don’t understand. In other games you grind out dungeons for end game gear. The mechanics are all the same. The only thing you’re not striving for in this game is an extra +10 hit points.

I don’t know why anyone is complaining. Anyone coming from GW1 or intensively followed GW2 KNEW that there wouldn’t be a gear grind. You can craft your level 80 exotics and the game stops there for you statically speaking.

They don’t need to keep you for months. It’s a buy to play game. Come back when new content gets released and let those players who enjoy the game continue playing it.

It doesn’t have to be about gear, or gear progression. I thought the game would be FUN! Fun meaning that the stuff is fun to explore, to do over again (even if its for nothing else than some ‘skins’)

But it wasn’t fun.

At first it was…for a time, and then, no. Once the dazzling sparklies wore off, I saw the game (imho) as this shallow, hallow experience that had no richness or depth of content. It’s like EQ2, a soulless, empty game that has nothing engaging to it.

I do understand that it is my opinion only and fanboi’s won’t agree, but sheesh, I pour an intense amount of time into this game. I TRIED to like it, I even pushed myself to ‘give it some time’ but honestly, that depressed me further.

I am waiting around to see how A.Net deals with Lost Shores. It that tanks, my faith in this company will be forever…well, maybe not FOREVER, but seriously damaged.

Hey, if it’s not working out for you, don’t force it. ANet’s trying something new and different with this game and their content updates, it’s a learning experience for all of us.

I like the Charr starting zones, when I started playing at launch there are a lot of interesting and funny event chains. The guy getting his barbeque stolen being one of them. I ran through Plains one more time and I was surprised to see very little DE’s going on. I didn’t see half the DE’s I saw when I started. So that’s weird.

If you have trouble surviving, try to put some Vit and Toughness in your gear. Not sure if you knew you could dodge (double tap in a direction) but that’s essential to survival.

The crafting stations are in the Black Citadel. You can have 2 Crafting Professions but you can gather from every type of resource node (Ore, Tree, Shrub) regardless of what Crafting Prof you have. You need to have the right tools though: Sickle, Mining Pick, Chopping Axe.

Don’t be afraid to ask around, both in game and forums.

33 Dungeon paths for dungeon rewards and karma. I know Story mode doesn’t really count but i didn’t wanna do the math. Yes, bosses are meat sponges and it’s hard to tell when you’re supposed to dodge.

DE’s for karma, yes, a lot of the interesting temple event chains in Orr are bugged and only 3 are being run over and over and over. Doing DE’s in lower level zones net you 200-ish Karma instead of 300 but if you can’t stand Orr why put yourself through misery for an extra 100 Karma.

World bosses and temple events can be done for a chance at gear rewards in chests and specific gear stats in Karma vendors. Yes, the gear rewards suck most of the time, the Shatterer’s a kitten when he gets zerged.

Mini dungeons and jumping puzzles for another wack at chests. Insert world completion and achievements here.

WvW, sPvP, which I personally haven’t dipped my toes into very much because I’m distracted by the PvE.

A new Zone for all levels in a few days.

A new end level dungeon in a few days.

There’s plenty to do after you hit 80 (other than roll an alt). ANet’s aware that some activities are less rewarding than others. There’s nothing wrong with an end game treadmill, but I appreciate that most of the post 80 content here isn’t gated by time sinks.

@OP, Kiranslee stated it best in their last sentence. Make your own opinion after trying the game out. In my opinion there are ALOT of areas that need work and the devs are not communicating regularly, only when they feel they need to silence people because the rabble are making to much noise.

Anet is like a person sitting in a lawnchair with a garden hose wearing dark sunglasses holding a drink in one hand that randomly splashes water around to put out the really hot spots on the lawn. You will find this out for yourself soon enough. They do smile alot though, if you ever watch their dev vids…they do smile alot.

Did you watch the new dev interview? He addressed a few concerns. Not everything, and they are communicating, but with the new content update a few days from now they have their hands full.

I’m watching for the Nov 15-16 Update. Ain’t buying to any junk they say on the interview until I see results…. they’ve had many QAs and each one seems very nice but didn’t really get anywhere. And at this point of playing the game (since getting into the Beta in April), I’d like to start heading somewhere. So far though – I haven’t really seen the first step; just some occasional shuffling of the feet (The Halloween events was nice… but that was more like jumping than actually moving forward).

They’re adding a new zone and a dungeon. Seems like a step forward to me.

Read the forums, but make sure you play it yourself, this is a different breed of MMO.

If you’re into story, you’ll enjoy the main story missions. There are cutscenes and VO, and multiple story paths to choose from. It’s not SWTOR, but it isn’t completely linear. In addition to that the story is laid out in the form of optional NPC dialogue and dynamic event chains.

You mentioned you’ll do some crafting on the side, do a lot of it as gathering and crafting nets you experience as well.

Be warned, there is very little gear progession post-80. That’s not to say there’s nothing to do, there’s plenty to do. 100% completion, dynamic events, 33 dungeon paths, sPvP and WvW. They also give out their own rewards, but don’t expect a gear treadmill.

Personally, I have a full set of exotics (highest tier equipment), have 480 hours in my main, but have still plenty of reason to log in. I’m 50% world completion so I’m working on capping it. When I get bored I’ll run some dungeons for a few hours to finish out my armor set collection. When I get bored of that I’ll check out if there are any world bosses up. Once I take care of those and if I haven’t done so allready I’ll work on my daily, then do some jumping puzzles and mini dungeons with a few guildies to end my day.

How about a new zone, dungeon, and DE’s?

Collin mentioned a beta for a new sPvP map coming during the update on the 15th/16th.

They should improve their difficulty scaling and just make Group Events normal events. One person can tackle it, but when he brings a zerg, the difficulty scales up accordingly. I had the impression that every event was like this, but the difficulty scaling needs a lot of work.

..if the first “one time event” we had for Halloween is any indication, you’ll miss out on a five minute cutscene. This could be different, but still..

The permanent content (zone, dungeon, etc.) will be there for you to enjoy when you get back,

They’re releasing a new dungeon that gets harder and rewards better as you progress as well as a new zone.

Hopefully that update will contain the reworked dungeon rewards they’;ve been talking about, They’ve also been very vocal about making sure players are rewarded for whatever it is they do. This game still isn’t a gear treadmill, but they’re aware of the incentive to play issue.

There’s nothing wrong with wanting to play WoW instead of this. They’re different games with different focuses (foci???)

Who else thinks the end game is lacking?

New dungeon and zone in a few days guys.

They’re also tweaking dungeon rewards and are vocal about their concerns with having players be rewarded for doing whatever it is they like.

And say what you will about lack of incentive, WvW and sPvP are practically their own separate games. Lay that on top of my 500+ hours of game time at 50% world completion AND free content updates (every month it seems) and I say I got my 60 bucks worth.

Will Guild Wars 2 have frequent content patches?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

They did just that with the Halloween patch with new events and mini dungeons.

There will be another content patch in the middle of Nov that will add a new zone and dungeon (among other things)

The exos aren’t as easily accessible elsewhere. The chest is repeatable, and so are the mat rewards, and the event doesn’t last long, so it’s more efficient than farming the lab.. Someone in my guild got The Mad Moon off of the chest, also.

With a good chance for exos, rare crafting mats, a good amount of exp and gold. Not to mention an epic boss fight.

MMORPG = Massively Multiplayer Online RPG.

I see that people’s expectations of what an MMO is have changed over the years. But GW2 is still massively multiplayer (say what you will about Dynamic Events being a “single player” affair, you’re still doing them with other people.).

When I talk to my friends of old, and why they use to play MUD’s, Asherons Call and Ultima Online ~ they always talk about the “community” and how back then, those games WERE Facebook. As in, a place for like minded people to gather, socialize and enjoy the craft.

GW2 doesn’t do that, and in my opinion is why WoW is still “king” ~ despite their outdated graphics and kung fu panda hijinks..

If you’ve ever heard someone shout “FOR THE HORDE!” ~ you can see without a shadow of a doubt that the game inspires and promotes a sense of community… for better or worse.

At the end of the day, can you really say that GW2 IS an MMO anymore than League of Legends, Team Fortress 2 or Playing Skyrim while talking to your friends on skype?

I can understand the feeling of the lack of community, but idk, it’s there if you look for it. I’m in a good guild and there’s plenty of community there. We run dungeons, we do jumping puzzles together, we run WvW.

When you’re just running around the world and doing DE’s, teamwork isn’t required most of the time, but that can be said about WoW as well with their LFG system and when you’re just running around their world. If you wanted a sense of community in WoW, you’d join a guild, do heroics/raids, do PvP. You can find that in GW2 also, though we lack the Raiding equivalent. However, if you wanted to get a huge group together, you can do WvW and make a significant impact.

What makes GW2 an MMO is that hundreds of people (onot sure what the player cap is) can exist in the same instance. That doesn’t happen in TF2, or LoL.

State of the game from my point of view.

No speed whatevers
3-4 hours.

Loved it, only issue was the camera getting stuck on objects.
Seeing other players was kind of a hassle, but I like seeing them all die one by one, only to have you and one other person left. Great motivation, got the blood pumping.

The Halloween event isn’t just limited to costume brawling.

There’s the scavenger hunt with this act.
There are still 3 acts with more content left to come.

And I could’ve sworn one of the devs (in a video) said that costume brawl was here to stay.

No thanks. >.<

Don’t need artificial number inflations for more content. Don’t need to ‘feel stronger’… compared to newbs. There are games for flexing the E-[censored].

I already make new alts, sooo… this is a pro how? And how would no new crafting tiers be a bad thing? Don’t need ‘tiers’ to make more gear. They can introduce new recipes for new skins.

We don’t need more levels. Additional content for a variety of levels would be nicer.

How is the number inflation “artificial”? A level 80 sword is stronger and sharper than a level 70 sword, and along down it goes. You need more power to take on bigger and badder foes.

Well, the difference between a lvl 80 killing something with 1,000 HP versus a lvl 800 killing something with 10,000 HP is only a set of 0’s. It’s psychological, to some those set of 0’s (getting to lvl 800 from 80) is a big deal, but to others the only difference between the two, is that the lvl 800 sank more time in. He isn’t “stronger”, he just had more time to grind.

I like the costumes

Wish you could wear these over your current armor, at least until Halloween ends.

Would love it so I don’t have to switch to the costume whenever I’m out of combat.
