Normal Maps are image files used to simulate bumps and intricate detail on 3D objects. So the normal thing might be a joke that slipped through the pipeline. I don’t know what a cutout is though.

There’s plenty of complaining on the WoW forums (and every MMO forum).

If anything it’s worse on WoW forums as it’s the same crowd as Diablo 3 – blizzard die-hards, mostly kids and immature adults stuck in gear-ego rat race who just reply with “lolol l2p nub qt” – whereas here we actually have most people with proper grammar and actual words.

Hehe no.

The typing of complaining here on these forums indicated systemic problems and universal dissatisfaction with things that may not be able to be fixed.

Complaining about class balance is one thing. Complaining about how the game works or doesn’t – and is fun or isn’t – is another discussion entirely. And that’s what we have here.

There are blog and forum posts addressing many of the issues allready. Orr, dynamic events, old dungeons story and explorable. Bug fixes are bug fixes, they’re an ongoing thing. A sticky has been made regarding the “perceived” loot drop rates. Fun is always a subjective term and is argued in many MMO forums. I think they’ve addressed plenty in the forums and in their other forms of communication, they’ve even addressed WHY the devs don’t post on the forums on every topic on a daily basis.

Lack of interesting armor sets below level 40

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: NetherDiver.6079

NetherDiver.6079

The main idea of the game is to get good looking armor sets, hence the motivating factor for leveling is so you can get armor skins, at 80 the number of armor sets available to you pretty much doubles from the amount available at 79.

You expect a casual gamer who works and attends college to WAIT to see content at 80?

Come on man, if that’s the case, this game is horrible and I wasted $60

Doesn’t take that long to get to 80. You’re also able to craft different looking armor, the heavy craftable armor is lacking though. Make sure you check heart vendors often too.

They added a new dungeon, a new gear tier, and improved rewards across a variety of activities. But if you didn’t like this game 4 months ago, there’s no reason why you would like it now.

OP I agree with some of your points, something happened along the way just prior to the nov 16th patch and it’s been weird ever since. Not sure if it’s management or if they have too many people involved in the decision process or of there is a division where one management team doesn’t know what the other management team is doing because there’s alot of confusing stuff happening with this title right now imo.

and to NetherDiver: I do hope you are kidding because they nerfed rewards from activities there’s been no improvements. Even the Dragon chests no longer drop rewards like they used to and we’re talking not even rares here. So where are you seeing rewards or are you one of the few who’s account hasn’t been hit with some weird loot, DR, or mf bug meant for bots?

Assuming OP quit at launch a bunch of reward improvements were added since then. Dungeon rewards were improved significantly with the daily system. They introduced the Bag of Wondrous goods which isn’t a vast addition, but it was nice that you could earn karma in dungeons. Drop rates of rares from boss mobs were improved, havent noticed this myself from open world bosses, Karma was also added to the daily and monthly, and they improved DE rewards from (i dont remember the exact number) level 60-75 zones. JP rewards were also improved.

We don’t need more DE’s we need better rewards and more reason for people to go out and explore.

Yup, there’s already a whole world out there, they just messed up badly at getting people wanting to go out there once they’ve out leveled it.

Until they figure out a way to keep people doing DE’s and going around the world I’ll bet they will just stick to making dungeons as content as they can more easily keep people wanting /needing to do them.

Can we have both? I don’t want to have to spend 2-5 min running around looking for a DE, it happens frequently. More DE’s sprinkled in so that we don’t see the same events over and over and over would help a lot too.

More would always be welcome, but it’s the fact that no ones really doing the ones they have in now, so why spend more time making DE’s when they can just fall back on the old gear grind dungeon route via fractals. At least until they find a way to get people wanting to do DE’s and explore etc.

Yeah, you’re absolutely right. 1s50c or so per event doesn’t really cut it. Not to mention you get the same amount for doing group events. The Karma reward I feel is good enough, but there’s nothing to spend karma on, really. The temple events are really fun, but are plagued by all kinds of script and AI bugs, it’s unfortunate.

January Monthly Achievement

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: NetherDiver.6079

NetherDiver.6079

I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again. The monthlies need to be restructured. The monthly achievement and reward should require the completion of four out of six to eight related achievement paths, so that players can pick based on their play preferences, rather than being forced to do WvW or Fractals, etc…

I have 700+ hours of play, complete my dailies almost every day, but I have NEVER completed a monthly, because I refuse to do content I hate because Arenanet arbitrarily decided I need to do it for a monthly.

People don’t mind working to earn a monthly, but many resent being forced to do content they loathe. What happened to “never forcing people to do a form of game play they don’t enjoy” in order to get an equivalent reward?

Then… don’t do the monthly. It’s not like anet is pointing a gun at your face. Besides, the rewards are only 10 jugs of karma and 20 coins. Those rewards are gonna be useful only for either getting crazy MF weapons, or legendaries, or karma armor. If it’s those weapons/legendaries, with this attitude you really won’t get them as there are probably more content you wouldn’t want to do (like farming, or JP wvw for instance). If its for karma armor, well, karma is so easy to get now. 1 jug a day and you get alot of karma doing dungeons so it shouldn’t be a problem to get your 240k karma for your armor set.

the only content I loathe is pvp, and I won’t do it unless required (or unless I get a bit bored of pve, then I dabble a few rounds in pvp in a month). But if they made that a requirement for pve (which will never happen), I’ll still do it because the rewards in my opinion, far outweigh the “suffering” i’ll have to endure doing those things. I used to hate wvw, hate killing people, etc. But because of the work entailed to get the 500 badges, I love it now.

Serious question though, what’s the Monthly Event Participation? Are those DEs?

I’d believe so.

Make sure you kill a lot of things when you do events so you get blue and green drops. Selling those add up in silver. Running dungeons make you gold much faster if you’re efficient, which is a shame really. I’d love to run more world events, but they’re not nearly as profitable as dungeons.

Fractal in Monthly Achievements

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

NetherDiver.6079

You have an ENTIRE month to complete TWO fractal levels.

Are you serious? You can get a fractal group within minutes on ANY sever if you’re willing to put the effort into it.

Matter in fact, if you simply used your resources to actually finish fractals instead of complaining on the forums, you’d be finished making the group and possibly halfway through the achievement.

I finished the fractal achievement without even trying tonight, running through my guild.

Having monthly achievements like that would make me rage, considering you get absolutely nothing but 15 coins and some jugs. Not worth grinding that much for it.

Guys, just do scale 1 and 2 and you’ll be done with it. Takes 1-3 hours.

Will there ever be a monthly without the fractals again?

This is the question that REALLY needs to be answered.

I find Fractals fun to play, but I don’t want it to be forced on me every single month to complete the monthly reqs.

It’s 7 Fractals guys. As in run 1 and 2 and you’re done.

It’s not about the number of times we have to run it, it’s the fact that, a full two months after this new dungeon was released, we’re still expected to run it every month like clockwork. I could understand it being a requirement for the month of November, maybe even December, but January too? Is it really going to be a forced monthly requirement for all of the foreseeable future?

I seem to recall the devs saying that they didn’t want us feeling as though we were “forced to run dungeons at endgame”, yet that’s exactly what this is. We’re being forced to run dungeons to fulfill our monthly quota. And I don’t mind Fractals much, but for those who aren’t fond of it (or worse, quit over it), it’s really not smart to keep shoving it down their throats every month.

Running two fractal scales a month is clockwork? :O. C’mon, seriously? I know you’re pressured into doing something you don’t want to do (you still get plenty of karma doing your dailies and dungeons, though, idk), but come on. TWO fractal scales takes about 2-3 hours.

I don’t think they’re going to include this next month, though. This is pure speculation, but because they’re making fractal changes at the end of Jan, making them easier to group into, it makes sense that the achievement will have fractal related tasks. So if they’re doing nothing to fractals next month then they might take that out of the monthly.

Why do “casual” players care if they’re “falling behind”? You’re not going to miss out on content because you missed 40,000 karma in a month. You’re able to do dungeons without exotic gear and you’re able to participate in world events with out exotic gear.
You can run AC at 80 to make some quick cash and karma to either craft or buy exotic pieces respectively.

If you don’t want to make the effort to find 30 JP’s, or to do two fractal scales (7 fractals is scale 1 and scale 2), then you’re going to miss out on the reward. You have thirty days to open up the wiki and search Jumping Puzzle. If you don’t want to do those things, then you don’t want the Karma bad enough.

And yet, people CAN specialise into healing their teammates. It is just not ALL that they can do.

I’ve done this. Healing Power scaling is horrible, but it forces me to pop my heals and regens at the right moments. I don’t think healing in this game is supposed to keep HP at full, it’s supposed to act as damage mitigation. I didn’t like healing at first, but once I realized that I enjoy it.

NetherDiver.6079

Many of the enemy encounters in this game require very little thought or skill, but the issue isn’t with the lack of the trinity, the issue is just bad encounter design.

What I enjoy about the combat in this game is having to time your abilities to counter or mitigate enemy attacks. Blinding before a powerful attack, stability before you get knocked into lava, reflection when an enemy uses projectiles, heals and regen while an ally waits for his own self heal to come off CD. The encounters need to be designed to take advantage of what the combat has to offer, because atm, most fights only require high DPS and the ability to dodge red circles.

I like the trinity system, but I want ANet to refine their take on MMO combat and fix the things that don’t work instead of scrapping what they worked so hard to build.

Only Warrs and Guards? Heavy armor thread

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: NetherDiver.6079

NetherDiver.6079

From the beginning of Guild Wars 2, I’ve loved the lack of a trinity and that all classes can basically ‘be their own tanks’. However, with this being the case, wouldn’t Warriors and Guardians have a pretty big inherent advantage since they are the only classes which may use heavy armor?

Until recently I didn’t see this as a problem with party formation requests. However, on GW2LFG.com now I’m seeing for (at least) Citadel of Flame speed runs that some groups only want Warriors and Guardians due to their heavy armor/increased survivability.

Sure, you can say ‘just go Warrior or Guardian’ – but if this trend continues then a clear balancing issue is present that ANet will need to address.

What do others think about this?

Though armored classes have an advantage, you’re only looking at speed run LFGs. I haven’t played much other than Guardian, but being heavily armored comes with a lot of risk because we’re melee focused, you’re right in the thick of battle. You’re also in the middle of a billion spell effects and its hard to time your dodges, blinds, and blocks.

No real way to tell now during the holiday seasons. Many MMOs, even the half dead ones will experience a surge in numbers during these times.

Plus GW2 was recently on sale so many new players bought the game for $20 to see what the game was about.

I did notice that guilds with vet players are becoming more inactive while those newbie guilds in Queensdale are booming. That could explain why different people are experiencing different things. What happens after the holiday season though is anyone’s guess.

I’m guessing there’ll be less activity soon after, and then another huge influx of people when the Jan patch hits, especially those who took a break. But, there might not be less activity because of all the new players coming in during Christmas.
